Dell Inspiron 7737 :: Touchscreen And USB Root Hub Gone?
Jul 9, 2014
After the latest Windows update my machine restarted to no USB mouse activity. I checked Device Manager and could see that the USB root hub was not functioning so I then proceeded to reuse Windows update and it told me there was an update available for Intel USB hub so I ran this and after another restart and some fiddling (it tried to make me install a USB keyboard driver which I had to uncheck as it kept failing and preventing the mouse driver installing) I got my mouse working again.
However I now have no touchscreen functionality) this is shown as non fuctioning in the device drivers, it also says the transciever for the mouse isn't recognised but as the mouse works I don't really care about this).
In answer to the suspected responses, yes I do have a touchscreen (or rather did have!), yes I do have the latest BIOS, I've run the Dell update and touchsceen doesn't appear as an option for device drivers, no this is 99.999% not a hardware issue unless its unbelievably coincidental with Windows Update and no it did not give me an option to rollback my drivers for any of the devices that stopped working.
Brand new laptop 3 days old - model 7737. Came with Win8 and touchscreen was working fine
Have updated to 8.1 and installed other software like office, etc and touchscreen is now not recognised. System says "no pen or touch device"
Device manager also shows an unknown USB device (device descriptor request failed) Device manager also keeps refreshing (like every few seconds) - sometimes the USB device disappears completely then comes back again as unknown.
I'm sure this must be a driver issue but have tried all those I can find.
I have a new Inspiron 7737 and installed Windows 7 Enterprise Edition on it. The laptop is wire-connected to a modem. The problem is that the Ethernet card driver is needed. The only driver I found (.exe file) on the Dell site was for Windows 8/8.1. I tried to install (i.e. run) it anyways, but that didn't work (it complained about the absence of the controller and did not show up in the list of the available drivers...).
My Dell Inspiron 7737, was reformatted and the hard drive was erased. I am doing a factory restore, but it is stuck at 52% on getting hard drive ready?
On my old XPS, when the screen turned off, the keyboard backlight would turn off with it automatically. My new Inspiron 17 does not do this, and I can't find anything that seems to control the behavior. Is there a way to do this?
Alternately, is there a software solution to control the keyboard backlight?
where my laptop would shutdown randomly and give me a real time clock error. I googled around and found that replacing the cmos battery would fix the problem. I tried it out but still i am getting this problem.
Every time I go on my laptop (Inspiron 15 5000 series), the touchscreen works for a while, and then it won't. The only way to use my touchscreen again is to shut down and the restart my laptop...
I have an Inspirion 3137 with a clean install of Windows 8. My touch screen does not work at all. So far I have:
- installed all available driver updates from Dell
- installed all available Windows updates
- updated to windows 8.1
- installed all original software from Dell backup image
I tried following troubleshooting to calibrate the touchscreen and the calibration options are not available in the control panel.
I have found that the touchscreen is not listed in the device manager under human interface devices. I found an updated chipset that claims to fix this issue but it is apparently not compatible with this computer.
My 15Z touchscreen works intermittently. It will be working just fine, then it starts to take a second to respond. Then it stops responding at all. Then it starts working again. I cannot identify any pattern to it.
I bought an Inspiron 14R about four months ago. The touchscreen worked fine until maybe a month ago. It was after the computer had some sort of update that the touchscreen stopped working. Any clue if there is a driver or something that I can download to fix this problem?
I've recently bought an Inspiron 15Z 5523 (Win 8) and started experiencing ghost clicks on the touch screen (primarily on the left side of the screen). Once it starts happening, it pretty much makes it impossible to use the laptop since it starts to click/zoom/scroll randomly continuously. Leaving it alone wont fix it. I have to turn off the laptop via the power button and the problem fixes itself sometimes after turning it back on, but at other times, have to leave it off for longer. I have also tried wiping the screen clean, but doesn't work either.
I just received my Inspiron 15 5547 computer 2 days ago and one thing I noticed is that intermittently the touchscreen freezes for 3-10 seconds at a time, when this happens the computer is not frozen, I can still move the cursor with the touch pad or with a Bluetooth mouse.
I have contacted tech support and they advised to give it a few days to see if it continues to happen and confirm that the computer in fact does not freeze. I am wondering if this is normal for this model? Or if this is an actual hardware issue with my computer.
I also am wondering about getting a stylus to use on the screen for drawing. If I get one like the Adonit Jot or one like used for a Samsung Galaxy Note III would that work? Would it cause any damage to the screen?
I got Dell Inspiron 17 7000 Series touchscreen laptop, and When I use Google Chrome browser, everything's okay from the start but sometimes it just stops responding to my mouse clicks and responds only to taps on touchscreen. Sometimes cursor dissapears when I try to move it from touchpad in Chrome. It appears when its positioned in lower Windows menu but dissapears as moved onto browser screen. Sometimes it doesn't disappear and I can move it, just can't click anything. Maybe there would be a point to reinstall Chrome?
It never happens for my DJing programs or other stuff. Oh and one more. For example, in some games and DJing program where I need to move equalizers and so, when using touchscreen I can't swipe, pull things, the whole window swipes away. Is it because of Windows 8 possibility to swipe in apps from left corner or just a glitch?
An exact example is Candy Crush (oh,dont be too harsh on me for playing such silly stuff) :D but I can't swipe candies with touchscreen, I can just tap on one and then tap on next one to make them change places. Though it wasn't like that 2 days ago,I was able to swipe those dumb candies. Have I pushed some button or something? I got Classic Shell program that converts all the menus pretty much to Windows 7 look, maybe the problem is connected with that..?
I got an inspiron 11 on Friday. I started noticing that sometimes the touchscreen wouldn't work correctly. Sometimes It takes a few taps to register a touch, other times it just quits working for a few seconds. This makes it hard to do anything, and makes it completely impossible to play any touchscreen games.
After a couple days, I finally figured out that It was on battery power that I had the problems. When plugged in the touchscreen works perfectly.
I have downloaded all the dell upgrades, and windows upgrades. I've also tried to turn off all the battery saving options I could find. Under power options advanced screen I changed every option to the same for plugged in and on battery. I turned off the option for dells power saving features. In device manager I took away windows ability to put usb hub asleep. There Is probably more I'm forgetting. Basically everywhere I seen a difference between battery and plugged in, i changed.
It passes all the hardware checks, both through dell software, and on the bootup hardware check.
I use this in tablet mode 90% of the time. And returning it to laptop mode to use touchpad/keyboard just isn't acceptable
I just bought this Dell Inspiron 15 3521 Model I15RV-1428BLK it says it's a touch screen laptop on the specifications but the touch screen doesn't seem to work at all not even once since I started running the laptop for the first time. The one I tested at the store worked fine.
Looked up for drivers with my service tag, but couldn't find nothing that fixed the problem.
Yesterday i bought a Dell Inspiron 13 7347 and I dont know whats wrong with the touch screen on my Dell Inspiron 13 7347. The screen keeps flashing white bubbles, white streaks and the icons are all moving around, shrinking/expanding; and jumping from one screen to another?
I disabled the touchscreen driver and now its working fine without the touch screen; by the time i enable the driver
I am using Hp Envy 14-k030TX. Laptop is runnig on the windows 8 64-Bit. There's a unkonwn device on PCI Root Complex. Divers are not available and i also dont which device is that.
Is it possible to adjust the sensitivity of the XT3 touch screen? I'm running Windows 8 on it - the stylus works fine, but if I touch it with a finger it nearly pushes the laptop over before it registers!
i have a Dell Vostro 5470. My touch screen has not been working for more than a month. It suddenly stopped working. I have tried search for fixes, but nothing has showed up. I have the update from 06/2006 for the HID-compliant touch screen and for HID-compliant vendor-defined device.
I just gave my wife a new HP Envy 15t touchscreen laptop. She plugged in the ac adapter to charge up the battery and the adaptor got very hot. Is this normal?
