i am attempting to replace the CMOS battery in my presario; however, i can't seem to find it. i have tried to search for the service manual for this model but could not find it. i looked at the service manual for the C300 series and it indicated that the CMOS was under the memory module, but it isnt in the same place in mine.
View 8 RepliesMy ancient C500 fan is noisy, a constant slight grindy noise. Its been like this for months and I cant take it anymore. Can I clean or replace it w/o too much trouble or is it time for a new laptop? Looks like I'd have to take off the whole bottom to get at it...which Iwill do, if it will shut the damn thing up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got an old C501NR with 80 GB HD that blue screened and died. Disk check indicated failed sectors. Wont boot into windows. Hp said its dead or dying. So I bought a 160 GB and Windows wont see any of it, neither does Bios. HP said it was too big, would only handle 120 GB so I ordered one of those, same speed/cache as the original. Same issue, its not found by Bios or Windows setup disc.
Here is the fun part: HP now says I can only use a certain part number which seems like total BS to me. Surethe 2 I tried were western digital and they come with Seagates, but so what? So if it isnt THAT that prevents me the puter from seeing the new drives, and that seems highly unlikely, what is it?? The drives are seating and connecting just fine.
i have a presario c552us laptop and it recently started making weird noises around the fan underneath. i took a look and it seems to be coming from the fan. it sounds like some1 stuck something in there and its hitting the fan blades. doesn't happen all the time either. when the fan is spinning, sometimes its great(like right now) and other times it sounds horrible.
i took apart the whole laptop and cleaned out all the dust, especially in the heatsinks and fan assembly. it seems to spin fine when i use canned air on the fan blades. it has the normal high pitch fan spin without the grinding noise and what not.
not sure what the deal with that is, but maybe the fan has issues gripping or spinning itself.
so it sounds like i pretty much need to replace the fan and the motor.
can i replace just the motor and fan? or do i have to buy the whole assembly with the weird shaped heatsink?
I accidentally dropped my Compaq Presario C571NR and it fires up Ok, but the screen is black. I have tested the video card with other monitor and it seems to work fine. I did some research and I found that it could be that either the inverter board or the backlight might have gotten damaged. I have purched a new inverter card online (awaiting arrival) to replace the existing one, but I wanted to know if any of you know which of them has the propensity to get damaged first, the inverter or the backlight?
I'm hoping is the inverter because it seems the easiest to replace, but if it's the backlight, then I'm screwed because I've read it's quite difficult to replace and it's more expensive. Compaq says they'll charge me $300 to fix it (since my warranty has already expired) but I might as well get a new one if the new inverter doesn't fix the problem.
I recently reinstalled windows XP though I dont know if that has anything to di with this, I didnt notice the problem till a few days later so I tend to think not. BUt now there is only a slight difference in screen brightness when I plug in as compared to on battery. I wonder if my backlight is failing.

2 main questions I have about those:
If they're mini-pciE, why are there sata versions and pata versions out there? There's no sata or pata connector on these cards it seems, the pci-e connector is all there is. Do they somehow use the sata/pata controller on the motherboard via the pci-e bus?
2nd question; would there be any way to boot from one of these? The bios has a bunch of options for booting up, network, usb, usb floppy, etc... but none for mini pci-e or anything like that...

i have a compaq c500 (c501tu) laptop.
for about 6 months now when i run the laptop on battery power it dies after 15 mins.
i thought i needed a new battery but tested my existing one on my friends laptop which is the same as mine, a c500 series.
after fully charging the battery on my laptop i removed it and plugging it into my friends laptop and it gave me 45 minutes of power compared to 15 minutes on mine!
i did this thrice and had the same results. but when i plug it back onto my laptop i get only 15 minutes of usage.
I have a presario C500 I went to turn it on and it said enter power on password. i dont have on then after so many tries it said SYSTEM DISABLED 13865 i cant be with out my laptop i need it for school..
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have a compaq presario c500 i have a problem that it wont charge and it wont run without the battery ...i know its not the charger and not the battery at fault as i have two of the same laptops and tried both parts from the other laptop with no sucess . is it more likely to be the motherboard or the actual mains plug on the laptop ....when i plug the adapter into the laptop it shows a charge light on front and the battery icon on screen shows as charging but it still dies the only way to get round it is it to charge it in my girlfriends laptop then put the battery back in mine ...is there any setting in the bios that would change how its charged

Does this usualy indicate a battery on its way out? The laptop isn't extremely old so it seems odd. My Gateway is older and has no problems.
I recently upgraded my wife's laptop from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate and almost everything works fine on it. The one sticking point through has been the battery behaving oddly in Win7. The first thing is that the battery icon has a red X on it and when you hover over it it states that I should consider replacing my battery. When the laptop runs unplugged, it literally lasts 20 minutes before it powers itself off. This is a huge difference when it would last over 2 hours in Vista just before the upgrade.
I'm wondering if there are specific drivers I should install or downgrade even though everything in Device Manager no longer has any yellow exclamation marks (I had to install some drivers after installing Win7). FYI, this laptop is about 1.5 years old.
If I can't find a solution to the low battery performance, I may have to revert her laptop back to Vista which would totally negate the reason for buying Win7 in the first place for her machine.
I have a Compaq Presario V5000 that will not power up. Fans and drives don't spin up. The odd thing is it will charge the battery when hooked up to the power supply. The orange lightning bolt is solid until it is fully charged then it blinks. I have a second power supply and I get the same result.
The laptop does nothing when I remove the battery and try to run in directly on the power supply. I have re-seated the memory, hard drive, DVD drive, WiFi, keyboard, touchpad, monitor, audio board and replaced the power button board.
I also checked the power level going all the way to the processor and all is well.
Does anyone know the part number to this or somewhere I could order online?......................

i don't know where to find it in my laptop.
I've been losing date and time recently. I update files, then take them home on a USB flash drive and they appear to be older than what's at home. Turns out my date and time are maintaining. I have to reset date and time when I boot up now. Pretty sure I need to swap out the CMOS battery (maybe a CR2032?) how to find it once the case is opened?

Tried a hard reset but no joy. Looking at some other posts on this forum, it seems that the next logical step would be to reset the CMOS. Trouble is I can't find any documentation to do with this laptop anywhere, so am unsure of the procedure.
I have a HP G60-126NR laptop. One day, it was stone cold when I press power button. I discharged the mothboard. I then installed a new CMOS battery . I am using the power adapter to power unit. When I press the power button , I get nothing toally dead, except to show the power connection light. If I remove the CMOS battery, then discharge the motherboard again, then plug in , and the laptop powers up without touching power button, and goes into setup screen to enter time. After entering time , it boots into Windows without issue. Windows SFC scan shows no error. If I shut down, not sleep, the laptop is dead again unless I discharge motherboard and start from square one. Also, I want to say that while Windows is running, if I close the lid to put to sleep, you can see that the screen is still active despite changing "what happens when I close lid". My diagnostics tells me it needs a new motherboard. PS: I did flash the BIOS off of HP Website thinking it would resolve my issue, but it did not ....

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently replaced the CMOS battery ourselves after getting the 5 beeps. Put everything back together but a couple of screws were loose and came out. Regardless the computer booted up fine and worked for a week. Yesterday it would not power on, at all. Unscrewed everything, opened it up, found some loose connections and tightened up, then replaced missing screws, seemed that they were tight and not spinning in place. Computer powered on fine. Next day, computer powers on again. Then, after a brief power down, it won't come on. AGAIN. Opened everything back up and saw the hard drive was loose so tightened that up via external screw. Put back together and made sure all connections were tight and re-screwed. Still will not power on.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi just recently posted a disscussion on this model and i recently took it to a repair shop, at first they wanted $180 to fix it, which was ok, then they told us it needed a new harddrive, so it would another $100 more, so we went and got it from them without any work being done... now i have no idea what to do i just spent $200 to buy the thing and now its broke.
Symptoms:
Turns on to the windows recovery failure screen, push enter to continue to start windows and it trys to start up, it goes to the windows screen attemps to load for a second, then flashes a blue and shuts off and repeats the process.

The drive ejects when the button is pressed but when a cd or dvd in put in the drive, the drive does not turn.

My friend put a password on it that requires me write in before the computer will boot in order for me to log-in to my work account. I believe that this is called a BIOS or CMOS or a boot password. My friend said that it is for extra security. I know the password and have no problems getting past this point, but I do not want to have to enter this first password to get to where I log-in onto my work account. The computer was not like this when I got it and I do not want to take it to a tech at work and explain to him what my idiot friend did. The friend does not know how to change it back so that I do not have to enter this password.
