I have a Compaq 6710b that was given to me for work. My friend put a password on it that requires me write in before the computer will boot in order for me to log-in to my work account. I believe that this is called a BIOS or CMOS or a boot password. My friend said that it is for extra security. I know the password and have no problems getting past this point, but I do not want to have to enter this first password to get to where I log-in onto my work account. The computer was not like this when I got it and I do not want to take it to a tech at work and explain to him what my idiot friend did. The friend does not know how to change it back so that I do not have to enter this password.
Im running Vista 32 on a 6710b and I want to install the latest X3100 driver from the Intel site, but it tells me the driver is not made for my laptop and to get the driver from the manufacture of the laptop. Ive seen this come up with a google search, but in every instance, there is no solution. Is there a way to install the latest drivers from Intel, or do I have to wait for HP to make them available on their site?
I have a 6710b which just crapped out on me, the power jack died. I assume....that it was because of the charger (universal) that I got with the PC from a friend. I have a charger for my old laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) and the plug fits into the 6710b, will this work or will it burn out my new 6710b (which is being taken care of via warranty) The specs of the charger are.....:
Not sure on the power specs of the PC itself, hopefully this is where you guys could help me out. I'm really in a bind here and would like to avoid spending the 75+ dollars HP wants for a new charger. Not to mention, I've heard some bad things about the HP chargers for a while now.
I have an old HP Compaq 6710b laptop and I'm trying to get Minecraft running. It ran on windows 7 a few months ago but now I upgraded to Windows 8 and I have the latest video driver on Windows Update because I can't find the video driver for Windows 8, how to get Minecraft running?
I have the bought version of the game.
I also got it running on Ubuntu.

Tried a hard reset but no joy. Looking at some other posts on this forum, it seems that the next logical step would be to reset the CMOS. Trouble is I can't find any documentation to do with this laptop anywhere, so am unsure of the procedure.
I returned from a 2 week holiday to find that I could not logon to my laptop. During the time I was away the laptop was powered down. When I enter the correct password to logon I get: "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." message. I tried powering the laptop for 3 hours then tried to logon again but without success. How do I get around this?
I got a hold of a Compaq Evo n620c in which the BIOS was password protected. I took out the CMOS battery and had it out over 24 hours in the hopes of reseting the BIOS. No luck. I was able to put in another HDD that had Windows XP installed, tne tried to flash the BIOS. I tried in the HP drivers site and was unable to flash the BIOS. The error read that the BIOS on this machine is password protected. Question is...How can I flash the BIOS or otherwise get rid of the password prompt at BIOS? Is there a generic password to do this or is there another way?
Had a venturous youngster tamper with my laptop yesterday, and that person managed to set a bios password. The machine will boot with out it, but it is requesting an administrator password in order to access the BIOS settings. Heh, I wouldn't have even noticed if I hadn't decided to load Ubuntu 10.04 for the first time.... Needed access to the boot order.
So, does anyone happen to know the back door password or any other option for me to get this fixed? It would be easy if I could pull the mobo ID from the OS, but HP thought ahead on this and I fear that they may have done the same thing with the password issue.
I have the latest BIOS for this model (HP EliteBook 8730w), and I have no problem creating a password for the administration of BIOS, but how do I setup a simple BIOS power on password, so that anyone who starts the PC will be promted for a password. ;ljklhjklh

I have set a password on my laptop BIOS four years ago and i have forgotten it. i get no error codes to the effect of "system disabled". reset it if possible.
