View 6 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of a hacked BIOS that removes the whitelist for the DV8230US? I'm getting one with no drives, a bad optical, and potentially bad WiFi (it doesn't show up) for free next week. I'd like to try to put in the B/G card from my NC10, which is an Atheros that I'm pretty sure isn't on their whitelist.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq 6710b that was given to me for work. My friend put a password on it that requires me write in before the computer will boot in order for me to log-in to my work account. I believe that this is called a BIOS or CMOS or a boot password. My friend said that it is for extra security. I know the password and have no problems getting past this point, but I do not want to have to enter this first password to get to where I log-in onto my work account. The computer was not like this when I got it and I do not want to take it to a tech at work and explain to him what my idiot friend did. The friend does not know how to change it back so that I do not have to enter this password.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got my 7900GS flashed so I can change the Clockrate, but the drivers I'm using I guess are causing my ATI tool to reset the clock settings I put.
I used: This site to flash
I set the slide and hit "set clock" it just resets to 375/507.
I'm guessing it's the drivers. I had some drivers that would let me do just the memory, but I'm looking to get both memory and core. What do you think it is?
I feel like somehow it isn't flashed anymore. Not sure, I know I flashed it, but I can't get it to respond to overclocking at all.
Computer Info:
OS: Vista
Video Card: 7900GS
the brightness keeps resetting after a period of time, I set it all the way to the lowest because the room I work in is very dim, then after a few minutes the brightness keeps resetting to a brighter setting

I'm having two issues which may or may not be related. My display adapter keeps resetting itself. Sometimes it works and I can continue working.other times I get a screen full of vertical lines and have to reboot. The computer will also not bout or run on battery power. If it's on and I unplug the a.c. adapter it well shut off. How to solve my envy dv7 issues? It's windows 8 that I'm currently running after doing a complete restore yesterday in the hope that if would solve the problem. If didn't.

I use my computer for work and I've got about 30 minutes before I have to leave. Is it safe to unplug the computer while in reset mode? The drive to work is ~40 minutes then it'll be put back on power.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell 1525, bought in April 08, about 3 months ago time started to get out of sync and multiple problems with battery "plugged in not charging."
So today after charging the battery from a friends external battery charger ( friend had same problem) I was updating the BIOS to A16 from A06 and when the laptop was restarting with the bios update I get a message saying "Time of Day Clock Stopped."
My question is if I replace the CMOS battery will this solve the problem?
Looking at dell documentation from

looks tedious and time consuming but not hard .....

View 5 Replies View RelatedI did the nvflash 79XXXXX.rom command and it asked me if I wanted to accept, I pressed "y" for yes, and it said it was successful.
So I load up windows and install coolbits and atitool, I got a steady clock at 640/1250, obviously I didnt want to keep it that high, but I benched with it and it did great, +2000 points on my 3dmark05 score. 8500!
I then changed the clocks to 450/1100 which is where I was going to keep it for everyday use, I clicked apply and went back in to verify and they were still there.
I reset my laptop and came back online the clocks were set to default.
What did I do wrong? on the newer nvidia control console it doesnt have the "apply settings upon startup" option.
i am using the 169.04 drivers so these drivers are correct(I read the newer ones do not allow the overclocking).
ive installed win7-32bit on my vaio sz650. everything works fine while connected to the power supply. but in battery mode my graphic driver keeps resetting sometimes, (and crashing the system).
this failure occurs mostly while watching video files or surfing on interactive websites.
sth like that ...
ive tried using the different graphic-modes (speed/stamina) but the failure still occures in both modes. so i guess its not a problem with the drivers.
notebook- Acer Aspire 2000 series CL32
problem- resetting itself constantly!
Explanation- Basically, one day after normal operation of my computer, I turned it off properly. The next time i went to turn it on, it comes up with the normal BLUE screen which has "acer aspire" on it. Down the bottom it says f2 to boot or something and f12 to enter setup menu.
If i do not press anything, it goes to a black screen and attempts to locate a boot cd. After it does not find one, it goes black, then up comes the BLUE screen which says "acer aspire" on it. If i do not press anything or touch anything, this process will keep going and going until i turn it off by holding down the on/off power button.
Resolution / what i have attempted to do-I CAN enter setup menu, by pressing f12 on the blue acer aspire screen. Once i am in the setup menu, i attempt to exit. I have attempted to exit the setup menu in all way, incl. disgarding changes, saving changes etc etc.
Each time i try to exit the menu a different way, It just goes to a black screen for a few moments, then repeats the process of going back to the blue acer aspire screen.
I have attempted to insert a boot cd. So after the blue screen, it goes to the black screen and attempts to find the boot cd. After locating it, it verifies it, says something like "found in drive C" or something similar, then it goes back to the same process.
Question- How the hell can I use my computer again?
Further note- 80% of my data has been saved on an external hard disk so rebooting or any other process is fine by me, I just want to be able to use my computer again.
Before attempting all the above processes, I disconnected everything from my computer e.g. all usb devices. I have tried it on batteries and with the power cable.
i have no warranty on my laptop and i cannot remember the bios password
i have been advised to reset the cmos but
i don't know where to find it in my laptop.
i have an Acer Travelmate 290 that barely starts these days. Fan is starting properly but screen remains black. Sometimes the bootscreen appears and then the screen goes white after some seconds. I can go into BIOS or run Memtest+ for some seconds but it always gets white some time later. I removed all modular parts and exchanged RAMs already. It got worse lately. Whereas the device starts maybe one of 10 attempts and remains stable for seconds it was working for minutes weeks ago. I detached/disassembled the notebook completely already several times. I don't have any Pentium-M replacement so this is the only part i couldn't swap yet.
I measured the cmos coin cell. It holds 2.539V of 3.0V. Looks empty but CMOS values are still ok i think (date is correct if i enter BIOS). Is it possible that the CMOS cell is responsible for those false starts?
I have a grandson just older enough to be dangerous around a computer. Recently I allowed him to use my 5610Z to make some pictures of himself, etc. Later the family went home far from here. Still later I tried to start the Laptop and "enter supervisor password" would appear each time I tried to start it. I'm never used a password, don't even know how to do such a thing. Naturally I called and he "remembers nothing!"
I'm old, 75, and do not have good vision. I found in the Manual for the Model a page showing "Jumper Settings" and a diagram with the description, 'Clear CMOS Jumper.
Note:
J3 locates at the bottom side of the main board as the red circle highlighted." Fine, I found it physically but don't know how to turn it on or off. I've pulled batteries to clear CMOS before but never had to deal with a switch.
Would I be correct in using tweezers and just pulling the square object up, or try to turn it?
I miss my Acer. Two years, never a blue screen, nor freeze up. I want it back running before I kick the bucket.
I've been losing date and time recently. I update files, then take them home on a USB flash drive and they appear to be older than what's at home. Turns out my date and time are maintaining. I have to reset date and time when I boot up now. Pretty sure I need to swap out the CMOS battery (maybe a CR2032?) how to find it once the case is opened?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt would be easiest if I just had a camera to take a picture of it, but, alas, I do not.
I have an Acer 22" monitor that I attach via mini display --> VGA to my 13" MBP, but for some reason it isn't aligning correctly. The external monitor is set up to the right of the laptop. The native resolution of the monitor is 1680x1050, which is displaying correctly, but the entire image isn't showing up on the screen. I moved the horizontal position all the way to the 100 mark, but there is just a 1.5-2" black line going down the right side of the monitor. Also, normally if you drag an app between the laptop monitor and the external monitor it is "seamless," but right now you have to drag a little further until it shifts onto the next monitor... if that makes sense. Essentially, the whole image on the external monitor is shifted to the left about 1.5-2". The monitor seems to be fine... when I make the resolution lower, the image fills the entire screen (it's just all out of proportion and hurts my eyes).
I have tried reconnecting all the connections and resetting all the settings, but nothing is working. It's still workable right now, but it's annoying as heck.
I've just acquired a Dell Latitude D630 that needed a new hard disk. I get the blue screen of death when I try to re-install WinXP and a search on this problem revealed that I might need to change the disk type in BIOS. However the previous owner set an administrative password that I need to use to change the hard disk setting. I've tried a number of things and nothing has worked. I even disconnected the CMOS battery but that just lost the date and time, it didn't reset the password.

I run command prompt as an administrator and use: imagex /apply e:dellimagefactory.wim 1 d:

I have an HP G71-449WM HP notebook. It was all messed up and wouldn't let me restore to an earlier point at all so I reset it to the factory settings. I didn't make a back up because there was nothing I wanted to save. I am unable to connect to the internet now, wirelessly or by hooking up to an ethernet cable. It gets an error while going through the initial set up where you set your password for the pc, the time, etc. when it gets to the spot for connecting to the internet it gets an error, freezes up. I turn it off and turn it back on and it just loads like a normal computer, but can't connect to the internet no matter what. I've reset it to the factory settings about 5 times in the last 3 days and am getting the same problem each time. I have no recovery disks or anything.
