Dell :: 7900gs Flash Worked But Clocks Still Resetting
Feb 5, 2008
I did the nvflash 79XXXXX.rom command and it asked me if I wanted to accept, I pressed "y" for yes, and it said it was successful.
So I load up windows and install coolbits and atitool, I got a steady clock at 640/1250, obviously I didnt want to keep it that high, but I benched with it and it did great, +2000 points on my 3dmark05 score. 8500!
I then changed the clocks to 450/1100 which is where I was going to keep it for everyday use, I clicked apply and went back in to verify and they were still there.
I reset my laptop and came back online the clocks were set to default.
What did I do wrong? on the newer nvidia control console it doesnt have the "apply settings upon startup" option.
i am using the 169.04 drivers so these drivers are correct(I read the newer ones do not allow the overclocking).
I've got my 7900GS flashed so I can change the Clockrate, but the drivers I'm using I guess are causing my ATI tool to reset the clock settings I put.
I used: This site to flash
I set the slide and hit "set clock" it just resets to 375/507.
I'm guessing it's the drivers. I had some drivers that would let me do just the memory, but I'm looking to get both memory and core. What do you think it is?
I feel like somehow it isn't flashed anymore. Not sure, I know I flashed it, but I can't get it to respond to overclocking at all.
just bought a new 7900gs for my lappy, e1705 and flashed it with the gtx bios so as to create the gsx.
however decided to change it back to the gs original bios but whenever i try to install drivers after flashing it, windows will always read my card as the 7900GT/GTO
It's kinda irritating because whenever i close the laptop lid, it wouldn't shut off and usually my temp readings are higher then normal - around 45-55.
Before when i used the original 7900gtx bios flash it would normally be around 37-45..
i tried to work around this problem by manually "having disk" when windows asks me to choose which driver to install and i chose the 7900gs however since they're like 5-6 7900GS GO drivers, i just choose randomly and it works to some degree; the monitor shuts off when i close it
yet i still have some display problems like the windows of each page moving slowly or very choppily when i move them..
anyone know anything i can do? to like.. revert back to my original bios settings? i did save the original bios but it just doesn't work, windows always sees my card as a 7900GT/GTO
It's not like normal fan working when computer gets cooler stops, when it's heating up starts working. It happened 7 days ago. And that never happened since then. But I'm still wondering why it's happened. My laptop is just a few days old. I was checking my air vent and suspiciously was being silent. After keep checking 5 to 10 min the fan still wasn't not working. And then I started running heavy software like video converting program. CPU was working 100% when I load this, fan still was not working laptop bottom was getting heated up. Then decided to check my cpu temp and installed everest ultimate edition. Everest doesn't recognize both cpu temp and fan.
I restarted laptop because my laptop was getting hotter. And when I restart it, laptop fan started working normally. CPU temp, fan speed are recognized in everest software. After I noticed that in system cooling policy settings was in passive mode on battery. Why it's happened? I doubt it's cord unplugged or sth. Cause software couldn''t detect both cpu temp and fan. Remember, after I restarted software detected the fan and temp, all fan thing go back to normal. And if it was loose connection why it's worked back again when I restarted and still working. I'm not able to give it back.
if it is possible to stop the video card from going into 3d clocks for certain applications. For instance, my skin for my computer uses a lot of transparencies and any simple movement of a window causes the video card to go into 3d clock mode. To me that seems like an unnecessary waste of heat for just everyday simple tasks like surfing the internet etc. I'd still want it to dynamically change to 3d clocks when I run a game or something though.
I have big issue with my 1640 now that Im running windows 7 professional 32bit.
After I've been gaming for about 30 min the cpu clocks down to 0.27ghz and the bus to 182Mhz. I downloaded some software of intels website just to identify the CPU and this is what it reads:
Expected Processor Frequency: 2.40 GHz Reported Processor Frequency: 0.27 GHz Expected System Bus Frequency: 1066 MHz Reported System Bus Frequency: 182 MHz .....
I'm running SZ370P here, which comes with Napa platform and C2D T7200 inside. As I've started using Lightroom and Photoshop a lot of late,
I thought a memory upgrade would give my laptop a bit of a boost in terms of handling large LR libraries and PS files.
I looked up my chipset specs and went hunting for RAM, ending up with Kingston HyperX 2x2GB as my primary choice. KHX5300S2LLK2/4G has 4-4-4-12 timings for my setup
I have a problem with my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC, model 15-e055st, which I purchased two months ago with Windows 8 pre-installed. I susequently upgraded the operating system to Windows 8.1 and all seemed to work OK. I then used the HP Support Assistant to do some important updates, which included the BIOS and other software. Following the HP update the computer would not Shut Down or Sleep, but Restart worked OK. When I attempt to Shut Down or Sleep, the screen goes black but the power light and the wifi light on the keyboard remain on and the fan is still operating. The machine will not recover from this situation without me first doing a hard reset by keeping the power button pressed for about five seconds.  I trıed restoring the software to the condition prior to the HP update but the problem still existed. Two days ago I refreshed the computer, which rolled the operating system back from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.0 but the Shut Down/Sleep problem is still there.
I've recently installed Windows 8 on an SL500 Lenovo ThinkPad. One of the three messages in Action Center is a problem with the hotkey utility. Lenovo's Support page recommended installing gevu65ww.exe. The current version is 4.22.1000. After this is installed, I click on "finish" and get the notice that "this program does not support this system. The volume/mute buttons next to the keyboard have not worked since upgrading to Windows 8. The Windows 8.1 has the same problem.Â
I have an aspire 7720 laptop and need your help in setting everything to default. Is there one place I can go and reset everything at once? Would you guys be so kind to give me a hand?
I've just acquired a Dell Latitude D630 that needed a new hard disk. I get the blue screen of death when I try to re-install WinXP and a search on this problem revealed that I might need to change the disk type in BIOS. However the previous owner set an administrative password that I need to use to change the hard disk setting. I've tried a number of things and nothing has worked. I even disconnected the CMOS battery but that just lost the date and time, it didn't reset the password.
I have an inspiron 1720 laptop 6 years old and have done an image restore to try and return it to its original state. I have a recovery partition and a factory.wim file.
I run command prompt as an administrator and use: imagex /apply e:dellimagefactory.wim 1 d:
This appears to restore, takes around 20 mins to reach 100%, but on rebooting the machine  its still in its current state....Do I need to do an extra step? what have i missed?
I've tried following many of the differing explanations on how to do this. I'm to the point where I'm going to pull my hair out! I can't figure out how to burn a "bootable" cd to flash the bios of my card. Is there a way to OC without flashing it? I've got a rev0 7900.
the brightness keeps resetting after a period of time, I set it all the way to the lowest because the room I work in is very dim, then after a few minutes the brightness keeps resetting to a brighter setting
I am using dell inspiron 1525 laptop.my dvd drive is out of order and now i want to restore my laptop back to the factory resetting.. Although i have already tried F8 process but once i click on repair, a page opens after dell logo which states user name and password. i enter my user name which has admin properties and its password but it doesn't work.
I'm getting my E1705 back from repair tomorrow and I'm going to push the thing to it's limits. I used to frequent these forums before they were redesigned, and it seems my old user name is gone as well -- so I get to start back over.
Using I8kfangui, and a PA-13 or a PA-15 -- whats the easiest way to push the laptop to it's "safest" limits.
I noticed the "new" JuanLu bios lets you overclock via software now which is nice. Depending on my bios revision once I can check again, which should I pick? I hear of some folks using the GTX bios on the GS, but like I said -- I'm so out of the loop now that it's not funny.
I'll probably look into dropping a FX2500 in there at some point in the near future, is there a guide to hardmodding the E1705 like this?
Anyhow, if some veterans will chime in and give this newb all over again some guidance to do this right, let me know.
I will overclock my 7900GS, what i the best clock for my 7900gs( i had already flash my bios for the 7900, but i dont know witch max clock can i take)-- i will play Crysis, this lags!
I have an Inspiron 1705e with a 7900GS. The GPU was replaced (twice) about 1.5 years ago under warranty due to failure most likely caused by overheating.
I installed a fan tool (forget which one) and set the fan/temp speeds pretty conservative to keep the GPU cool. Now it's running 1800rpm non-stop to keep the GPU at a reported 63°C.
That's with no programs running, just after boot. If I put the system to sleep, then wake it up, GPU temp is reported at <30C, then creeps back up to 60C+ .....
I just updated my 7900GS drivers to nVidia ForceWare 84.63.
efore, I had 7x.xx something.
The good thing is that my 3dMark06 score went up by 300 points, but the bad thing is that CS:S started lagging like hell.
Before, I could run CSS with everything on high, and have 90+ FPS almost constant. Now, with the new drivers, I have to run everything on low-medium, and it still laggs below 20 fps in firefights, which is very annoying.
Is it possible that older drivers are actually better than newer?
I'm having two issues which may or may not be related. My display adapter keeps resetting itself. Sometimes it works and I can continue working.other times I get a screen full of vertical lines and have to reboot. The computer will also not bout or run on battery power. If it's on and I unplug the a.c. adapter it well shut off. How to solve my envy dv7 issues? It's windows 8 that I'm currently running after doing a complete restore yesterday in the hope that if would solve the problem. If didn't.
My hp pavilion touchsmart 14 sleekbook was acting funny so I decided it was time to reset it back to factory settings. I didn't realize it would take so long. I use my computer for work and I've got about 30 minutes before I have to leave. Is it safe to unplug the computer while in reset mode? The drive to work is ~40 minutes then it'll be put back on power.
I've never seen this before. recently (and I mean within the last few days) my laptop has picked up this strange quirk that it resets its system time to 10/10/10 10:10am. I've done a full virus scan (microsoft security essentials) and turned up nothing - a clean system. Windows 7, not that much crap on it, mostly games. Fully updated.Â
Anyway, part of me is thinking cmos battery, but the paranoid side is reformatting and reinstalling anyway, as much as I hate to do it again. My question is, is this the default time the bios will reset to in the event of a bad cmos battery? Or have I maybe picked something up I haven't detected.
At any rate I've had this machine for less than a year, I find it highly unusual that the cmos battery would die so quickly. I have ancient desktops that are still ticking.Â
