I am using dell inspiron 1525 laptop.my dvd drive is out of order and now i want to restore my laptop back to the factory resetting.. Although i have already tried F8 process but once i click on repair, a page opens after dell logo which states user name and password. i enter my user name which has admin properties and its password but it doesn't work.

I have an inspiron 1720 laptop 6 years old and have done an image restore to try and return it to its original state. I have a recovery partition and a factory.wim file.
I run command prompt as an administrator and use: imagex /apply e:dellimagefactory.wim 1 d:
This appears to restore, takes around 20 mins to reach 100%, but on rebooting the machine its still in its current state....Do I need to do an extra step? what have i missed?
I bought my new latop in October and would like to restore it to it's origional factory settings, however I have been unable to do this as I have been told a number of different actions to try by PC performance and none of them work:
First I was told to press f8 on a reboot then select repair my computer so I pressed f8 and there was no option to repair my computer;
Second I was told to restart and press f12 insert a blank dvd and boot using cd/dvd which would create a boot disc which in turn would restore to factory settings, after choosing boot from cd/dvd my laptop just restarts as normal without creating a boot disc;
I was then told to burn recovery (which was on a small drive D:) to disc first then boot from cd/dvd which has no effect again windows starts normally.........
So I had a look around this recovery file and found a setup icon that said factory restore when I clicked on it, I got the message ERROR: the factory image could not be found please reinstall using the operating system media dvd.
My dell inspiron 1525 wont charge and it only comes on when connected to the charge, the battery says charging normally, then on the home screen it says connected not charging. On the outside the battery flashes back and forth going from blue to Orange.

I have Inspiron 1525 purchased in sep 2008. Order and original configuration is showing XP whereas recovery CD alongwith was Vista (my mistake was that I did not check the CD until now).

2.Where to find the OS Key for XP? Will Vista key work for XP or is there anyway I install vista and upgrade to XP?
There is no mail id where I could forward the mail of purchase order and original config details.
My laptop is now very slow and crashes every now and then. So I need to reinstall the Vista Operating System bu the big problem is that the CD/DVD drive is no longer working.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an Inspiron 1525 Laptop it came with the 1505 Wireless N-MINI card. I have a wireless network with the Linksys Model# WRK54G. This network is secured.
I set up connection as WPA-Personal with TKIP, this mirrors my Dell desktop that connects, however it is a G level wireless card. I can not connect to the network even though the signal is excellent.
It may be obvious the fact that the wireless card in the laptop is an N an the router is a G. Will this work or do I have to get the 1395 802 11G Mini wireless card
I have a Inspiron 1525. Recently I have tried to watch movies. Soon after the movies start my laptop shutdown. There was a time I could watch movies but not now. It continually shuts down within a few minutes.

It behaves most of the time, but occasionally it decides to restart instead of hibernating. When it's acting up, it will do the restart if you try to put it in hibernation, sleep or if you try to shut it down. The only way to kill the thing is to do a hard shutdown using the power button. It's annoying to say the least, since you can't just close it and walk away. If it restarts with the cover closed, it gets way too hot.

View 4 Replies View Related I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with a Intel Celeron Processor and the past year my cpu has been overheating and eventually causing my laptop to shutoff. This happens a lot quicker if playing graphics intensive games or playing youtube videos. I want a processor that can handle playing games and videos.
Also, one thing I was thinking was that maybe a fan stopped working that is causing the CPU to over heat but when I run a Dell diagnostic no errors come up about a fan not working, so I'm thinking I just need to upgrade.

I have to upgrade the CPU in the Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop?
I have a Dell 1525 laptop which will not boot beyond the Dell logo, I get a black screen with a white cursor. I tried to use the last known good configuration and it started out fine but I got the black screen again. I can't go into the safe mode, it only goes as far as loading the files. I tried booting from the cd to do a repair but that options says there are no problems. I attached an external monitor and I get the same black screen with the white cursor. I am running Vista Home as my operating system.

But I'm still wondering why it's happened. My laptop is just a few days old. I was checking my air vent and suspiciously was being silent. After keep checking 5 to 10 min the fan still wasn't not working. And then I started running heavy software like video converting program. CPU was working 100% when I load this, fan still was not working laptop bottom was getting heated up. Then decided to check my cpu temp and installed everest ultimate edition. Everest doesn't recognize both cpu temp and fan.
I restarted laptop because my laptop was getting hotter. And when I restart it, laptop fan started working normally. CPU temp, fan speed are recognized in everest software. After I noticed that in system cooling policy settings was in passive mode on battery. Why it's happened? I doubt it's cord unplugged or sth. Cause software couldn''t detect both cpu temp and fan. Remember, after I restarted software detected the fan and temp, all fan thing go back to normal. And if it was loose connection why it's worked back again when I restarted and still working. I'm not able to give it back.

I did a bit of a school boy error and put a copy of Vista on a laptop that I already had installed on my desktop.
Anyway to cut a long story short I want to get XP back on my HP Compaq 6710b, but I get the following message during install
Windows XP Home Edition set up did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly conncted to your computer and that any disk related hardware configaration is correct.
This may involve running a manufacturer supplied diagnostic on set up.

I am using windows 7 right now, and I was wondering how can I back up my whole hard drive before I send it in (they will reinstall windows, I know it), so that I can just restore it later and not have to setup everything again.
I have a dv6500t notebook, I have a Windows Home Server, and external HD. I want to backup EVERYTHING, so I can just restore it with all my settings as they are not on to the new hard drive.

I am very happy with my new Acer 1810TZ. I have installed all my favourite software and set it up exactly how I want it. I split the drive in two, so I have a C drive with Windows 7 and all the software, and no data. All my data is on D: and that drive is not an issue, I have no trouble backing up my data.
I now want to do a reliable backup of the system that will cover two situations:
1. Drive C gets corrupted somehow. Unlikely but I want to be able to simply put back Windows and all the software as it is now.
2. Hard disk fails. I put in a new one and want to set up drive C exactly as it is now.
I use Acronis and I know with a desktop how to so this. I simply use Acronis to make a file containing the C drive, and store it on a big USB drive. If the worst happens I can use the Acronis boot disk and put drive C back.
But the Acer has a complication. The drive starts with a 12 GB recovery partition, followed by a 100MB partition. In my case 1 above, it is easy, I simply restore my backup over C: and all is OK.
But what about case 2, where I have a new drive. I don't really need the recovery partition, but I suspect that if I use the simplest method, and simply restore drive C: as the first partition, it may not work, i.e. not boot? (method A)
Should I make partition backups of the two hidden partitions and then restore those as well as C:? (method B)
Would either method work? Most importantly would the machine boot? What else should I be doing? I'm sure many people muct have tackled this since Acer machines seem to work this way? Please tell me what is the recommended solution? Are you using Acronis?
How do I restore windows 7 to my laptop when the option for dell data safe restore is not one of the options when I try to repair it ? I have never had this problem before. Only just pressed F8 , repair computer but the last option is not coming up. I have the discs that came with it and when I tried it with these discs in the same result.

In the past I could simply turn it back on and resume from there. Now, when I try to turn it back on, the power button just flashes a few times and the laptop doesn't turn on. There are above the keyboard the volume and wi-fi tabs, wi-fi is working okay, if i want to turn it off it changes the colour to red. However the same not applies to the volume (it is always white), and also before the reimage whenever i put volume there was small box appearing on the screen showing how i changed the volume... Now it is still working, but i want that small box back what appeared before. How can i do that?
