I am using windows 7 right now, and I was wondering how can I back up my whole hard drive before I send it in (they will reinstall windows, I know it), so that I can just restore it later and not have to setup everything again.
I have a dv6500t notebook, I have a Windows Home Server, and external HD. I want to backup EVERYTHING, so I can just restore it with all my settings as they are not on to the new hard drive.
I have an HP DV7-1030eg laptop and am running Vista Home 64 bit, and lately, there has been some invisible force that seems to be sending keystrokes through my system and messing up my volume settings. Here's some things that happen:
- when I use ALT-TAB, the bar (the ALT-TAB window that pops up in the middle of the screen) will just disappear - IrfanView will suddenly jump to the next picture or quit full screen mode - screensaver doesn't stay on longer than a couple seconds - sometimes, my sound volume will drop, shake up and down a bit and then go all the way out. When I open the volume settings, I can see the volume slider wobbling around at the bottom
Needless to say, I checked for viruses and stuff, then I looked for advice online: the ALT-TAB problem seems to be pretty common, esp. with DELL notebooks (?), and people have had the same issue with IrfanView. I hear that removing the notebook's battery will help because there is electric tension building and that triggers unwanted impulses. And it's true, when I remove the battery, the PC becomes more stable - for a short while. Then, the problems reappear.
I checked out the test field in the FilterKeys feature, which emits a clicking sound at every keystroke, and it's clicking like crazy. There's roughly one keystroke a second happening in my system right now!
Maybe my setup is not properly grounded? I live in an old house with old wires etc. - how do I discharge electrical tension from an object? Or do I have too much stuff connected to my computer that creates an electric field? I have a 2.1 stereo system with ground loop isolator, an external monitor and USB mouse/keyboard.
I am very happy with my new Acer 1810TZ. I have installed all my favourite software and set it up exactly how I want it. I split the drive in two, so I have a C drive with Windows 7 and all the software, and no data. All my data is on D: and that drive is not an issue, I have no trouble backing up my data.
I now want to do a reliable backup of the system that will cover two situations:
1. Drive C gets corrupted somehow. Unlikely but I want to be able to simply put back Windows and all the software as it is now.
2. Hard disk fails. I put in a new one and want to set up drive C exactly as it is now.
I use Acronis and I know with a desktop how to so this. I simply use Acronis to make a file containing the C drive, and store it on a big USB drive. If the worst happens I can use the Acronis boot disk and put drive C back.
But the Acer has a complication. The drive starts with a 12 GB recovery partition, followed by a 100MB partition. In my case 1 above, it is easy, I simply restore my backup over C: and all is OK.
But what about case 2, where I have a new drive. I don't really need the recovery partition, but I suspect that if I use the simplest method, and simply restore drive C: as the first partition, it may not work, i.e. not boot? (method A)
Should I make partition backups of the two hidden partitions and then restore those as well as C:? (method B)
Would either method work? Most importantly would the machine boot? What else should I be doing? I'm sure many people muct have tackled this since Acer machines seem to work this way? Please tell me what is the recommended solution? Are you using Acronis?
I have a hp g6 laptop with windows 8.1. For some reason, my clock keeps going back three hours after I set and I turn off the laptop. However, when I turn the laptop back on, the time is back three hour behind as before.
I am using dell inspiron 1525 laptop.my dvd drive is out of order and now i want to restore my laptop back to the factory resetting.. Although i have already tried F8 process but once i click on repair, a page opens after dell logo which states user name and password. i enter my user name which has admin properties and its password but it doesn't work.
My laptop was working fine but then 5 minutes later after I shut down, I realized I forgot something so I started it back up again to find that after the Lenovo logo screen I would get a Fan Error message and the laptop shuts back down. Now I can't get into my computer at all.
I have an Acer Aspire v3-551g-8454 laptop. Lately it has been shutting itself off after anywhere from 5 to 24 hours of it being turned on. In the past I could simply turn it back on and resume from there. Now, when I try to turn it back on, the power button just flashes a few times and the laptop doesn't turn on. The laptop doesn't feel overly hot anywhere on it's surface.
I just got back my laptop after being reimaged Windows.
There are above the keyboard the volume and wi-fi tabs, wi-fi is working okay, if i want to turn it off it changes the colour to red. However the same not applies to the volume (it is always white), and also before the reimage whenever i put volume there was small box appearing on the screen showing how i changed the volume... Now it is still working, but i want that small box back what appeared before. How can i do that?
I installed HP MediaSmart whole package - and restarted the laptop after it, but still no success... I have a 64bit installation of Windows 7.
I have a HP ProBook 4530s, using Windows 7 64-bit OS, Intel Core i3-2310M CPU (2.10 GHz).My laptop is about 21 months old and I am facing some problems when puting my laptop into hibernate mode. Everything was fine for a long time - that is, when I put it in the hibernate mode it turned off and when I pressed the power on button it resumed. However, that isn't the case any longer. Now when I put it in the hibernate mode, it (usually) goes hibernating and after few seconds it turns back on (all by itself!). Sometimes it hibernates for 10 or 20 minutes (or even more) and then again, it turns back on all by itself! This problem just started occuring, I didn't install or update or do anything.
It's not like normal fan working when computer gets cooler stops, when it's heating up starts working. It happened 7 days ago. And that never happened since then. But I'm still wondering why it's happened. My laptop is just a few days old. I was checking my air vent and suspiciously was being silent. After keep checking 5 to 10 min the fan still wasn't not working. And then I started running heavy software like video converting program. CPU was working 100% when I load this, fan still was not working laptop bottom was getting heated up. Then decided to check my cpu temp and installed everest ultimate edition. Everest doesn't recognize both cpu temp and fan.
I restarted laptop because my laptop was getting hotter. And when I restart it, laptop fan started working normally. CPU temp, fan speed are recognized in everest software. After I noticed that in system cooling policy settings was in passive mode on battery. Why it's happened? I doubt it's cord unplugged or sth. Cause software couldn''t detect both cpu temp and fan. Remember, after I restarted software detected the fan and temp, all fan thing go back to normal. And if it was loose connection why it's worked back again when I restarted and still working. I'm not able to give it back.
When I take the laptop out of a sleep mode it goes immediately back into sleep mode. I do get the screen to enter my password but it's only there for like 2 seconds.
The second time I take it out, it works fine. Just a bit annoying that I have to do it twice pretty much 95 % of the time.
My keyboard has stopped wanting to type any key back to back without a pause (whether it's a letter or delete or backspace). So if I'm typing a word with two letters that are consecutive, I have to pause or forget and backspace (which I can only do once also without a pause). It's also started this slight click/beep that happens usually in conjunction with the error although sometimes not. And, the click/beep isn't consistent (or at least I haven't found it's rhythm yet).
Just got off the phone with a dell technician for cpu whine. Last month my computer died, they sent over a tech and he basically replaced everything in my laptop. The whine got ten times worst. I am on the phone with tech now and he is offering tech to come back and replace same exact parts or send it into Dell Depot for them to take a crack at it.
Is it worth sacrificing my laptop for 2 weeks? will dell likely tell me the whine is something "generally found in laptops" and i should deal with it? or has someone had their laptops successfully fixed by dell with respect to whine...
BTW they already rejected my request for an upgrade from my t7500...
I've been using adium for sending messages to cells because MSN doesn't support it in OSX and my cell account only has 200 to it and I won't pay anymore for it, the reason I don't like adium is because I keep getting people sending me messages that I don't know and I try to block them but they keep coming, So is there another messenger app that I could use in OSX for SMS's
I spilled coffee on it last night and am sending it in to the depot for their review to see if it can be repaired/replaced. Absolutely won't power up at all, no lights coming on or anything. Glad to have complete care, I bought the warranty for an extra year after it was going to expire after 3 years last September. I'll let everyone know what happens with this. I love this computer, it has served me very well so far for 3.5 years.
I got the 1721 for x-mas. Its worked pretty well but it has a hell of a time multi-tasking then giving the blue screen of death and restarting on its own. Well yesterday I turned it on and it said that their were errors and it could not boot properly and would i like to do system restore.
Then it booted up to my log on screen but none of the buttons would work. So I restarted and got the same message about errors and then the screen went 99% black, I could only read it in the right angle of light
Model: HP Pavilion DV4 1319TU. Product No. VB644PA#ACJ. Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 - Bit
I have recently got my laptop formatted due to some technical problems.
I am unable to send files from my laptop to my mobile or vice versa. It gives me an error that Files unable to send. However i am able to pair the device with my laptop.
I so wanted to like it because it does everything I need in such a portable package but whoever created the trackpad design should be freaking shot.
I've tried all of the various settings and the latest drivers but all of them freak out pretty badly if you leave you motion finger on the trackpad at the same time as clicking. God forbid you actually want to click and drag something (in the normal "hold down the button and move the pointer" method, not any custom gestures).
The limited tilting on the screen was really annoying (use thee laptop a fair amount at home standing up) but it would have been workable if it weren't for the trackpad issues.
Guess I'll be looking at the elitebooks and precision workstations instead (giving up on the portability for a better screen and usability)
I have Windows 8 on my HP Pavilion dv6. I had Beats audio on it, but then my laptop was doing weird so i had to reset it to factory settings. After that, my laptop was back okay, but Beats audio was gone. My question is: how can i get Beats audio back on my laptop??
It works fine but every now and then when she is using it the character set jumps to French and we can't figure out how to get English back. Any ideas ?
The last time it happened, she was browsing Yahoo using Explorer. She accidentally hits a key (easy thing to do on that keyboard) and wala, its in French. Then she has no option but to reboot. When she logs back in, its back in English.
Had a venturous youngster tamper with my laptop yesterday, and that person managed to set a bios password. The machine will boot with out it, but it is requesting an administrator password in order to access the BIOS settings. Heh, I wouldn't have even noticed if I hadn't decided to load Ubuntu 10.04 for the first time.... Needed access to the boot order.
So, does anyone happen to know the back door password or any other option for me to get this fixed? It would be easy if I could pull the mobo ID from the OS, but HP thought ahead on this and I fear that they may have done the same thing with the password issue.
I have followed the method from this forum to flash my dv4t BIOS from F31 to F55, but , now my computer can not start when i push the power button!! it is black screen!
I Have a HP DV6T QUAD and reinstalled Windows 7. When I touch the volume on my keyboard to increase or decrease the volume, it would appear on the screen for 1 second. Now after reinstalling, it doesn't show on the screen anymore when I touch the volume increase decrease on my laptop.
