Acer :: Delay Between Pressing Fn Button And On-screen Symbol Appearing
Jan 6, 2010I have a problem on my Acer 1810tz - when I press a Function button, such as Fn + F8 = mute/unmute sound, there is a very long delay of up to 3 seconds between pressing the button and seeing the speaker symbol show up on screen.
Acer's Launch Manager program is what displays the on-screen symbols. I have installed the latest version from the Acer website (it is a fresh install of Win7 64bit) found here, version 3.0.02.
When I purchased the laptop the symbols appeared straight away but now, after a fresh install, there is a long delay. All I have installed is chipset/graphics drivers and touchpad drivers.

Jan 5, 2010it always flickers and stuff. even so, it seems to be fixed (kinda) when i apply pressure to the screen. therefore, i am assuming something is loose. anywhere a visual tut on how to remove, take apart, and put back together the screen?

Apr 9, 2009I bought a Compaq v2000 a few years ago, has worked fine up until a couple weeks ago.
Now, it won't turn on. The battery (12 cell? extended version) has probably been dead for a while, but we always use AC power so no big deal there.
Currently, if you hit the power button, the amber lightning symbol on the front just flashes 3 or 4 times, then nothing.
Take the battery out, same thing. Take the AC adapter out, same thing.
My initial guess is battery or power supply are toast, but seems weird for it to just die like that (guess that's how it is with electronics though). If it is a total loss, no big deal, just need to get the hdd out and copy stuff off, the laptop probably needed replacing anyway...
HP Mini 5103 :: Keyboard Has Stopped Wanting To Type Any Key Back To Back Without A Pause
Nov 3, 2014My keyboard has stopped wanting to type any key back to back without a pause (whether it's a letter or delete or backspace). So if I'm typing a word with two letters that are consecutive, I have to pause or forget and backspace (which I can only do once also without a pause). It's also started this slight click/beep that happens usually in conjunction with the error although sometimes not. And, the click/beep isn't consistent (or at least I haven't found it's rhythm yet).

Jun 23, 2009I have acer 5630 bought in 12/08, 5 months later---- charged overnight. Woke up in morning to find that top corner on back of screen is melted and bubbled up, like it shorted out from the inside. Sent to Acer and tech says " You had to put it next to a heat source". I told them NO WAY!, but they say there is no way this could happen without a heat source from the outside. I guess someone got in the house last night and took a propane torch to it, or maybe they held a candle to it for ten minutes. There is no damage to the screen and the unit still works fine. This is driving me crazy. Oh, I forgot maybe our chihuahua held the torch to it.

Apr 24, 2010Recently I broke the screen on my laptop and I have purchased and received a replacement Dell Inspiron 15.6" Matte 1600x900 LED screen from an internet retailer.
The problem is that when I connected it to the laptop first time it did not work, I figured out there was a loose connection for my flex cable (my bad), then I made the connection firm and I got my new screen working perfectly! I got happy and screwed back the screen. Before assembling everything back, just tried it again and damn - the picture became very-very dark. I mean, no colorful details on the screen - I do see a picture but it is shades of dark grey - i can hardly see something there but again, the picture is there. I don't know much about LED screens but I would say it looks like there is no "backlight" or something like that.
Note, when I switch to the external monitor - everything is fine. First I thought the culprit is the flexible LED cable that goes from the motherboard to the LED screen. I just thought that maybe I broke the cable or its connection when I was disconnecting/connecting my LED screen. I figured out the cable part number (R267J) and ordered a new one from Dell. Once it arrived, I tried it - the same problem . So right now I definitely know the following:
1. The replacement LED screen must be good cause I saw it working and it is actually showing something, just there is a lack of brightness or "backlight"
2. The LED flex cable is good (I have the old and new one - they work the same)
3. The external LCD monitor connected via VGA works well - so it looks like the video controller is OK
Guys, what should I try next?
Dell :: Screen Turn Black And Comes Back On 1340
Mar 13, 2010I have a wired problem on my 1340 using windows 7 64bit.
From time to time, not sure when but when Im on windows (desktop, surfing with firefox etc..) the screen suddenly turn black, I dont see anything thou the laptop still runs normally - if I press ctrl + alt + del, I do see the menu that lets me choose all the basic options but when I exits it I still see black. This problem solves itself after a min or two and I see everything back to normal - If I was installing something then the install just finishes (the computer works normally during this, its just the screen). When this problem happens something the screen flickers, I see windows back for a sec and then black again - and after a few times its back to normal.
Anyone knows how to fix this ? Its quite irritating.

Acer Aspire 7736 :: Bluetooth Symbol With Red X
Nov 30, 2014I have an Acer 7736. Never used the Bluetooth function prior but now wanting to use.
Pressing the dedicated Bluetooth button on my keyboard results only in a Bluetooth symbol briefly appearing with a red "X". No other prompt or message???
I also have the Bluetooth sybol on the F3 button. But Fn F3 results with the same momentary on-screen symbol.
So how then do I use this laptop's Bluetooth function??????

Sep 11, 2013Model: HP15-N096EA ... When the laptop is turned on the screen colurs are inverted i.e. blue becomes orange, white becomes black etc. at times it flickers back to normal colours i.e blue shows as blue etc.
I have checked magnifers invert colours isn't turned on but when I do turn it on the inverted colours switch to normal colours obviously. There is also a vertical shimmer like every other vertical line is missing or phases in and out.
I have booted into safe mode to see if its a driver issue but the colours are still inverted, I've booted into the BIOS and again the colours are inverted and just to cover all bases I booted a live DVD of Mint Linux 17.1 and the legendary green of the mint distro was a lovely lilac. I've also tried high contrast i.e. Left ALt + left Shift + Print Screen.
My feeling is its the graphic chip or the monitor and I'm hedging more towards the monitor. Tomorrow I'll do a screengrab to see how that comes out and will also connect to an external monitor to see if the flicker and shimmer is still present.
Considering this is literally a month and 6 days out of guarantee it pretty bad, I would have expected a bit longer from a laptop before it started failing.
Update from Yesterday: I did a screengrab from the HP using the snipping tool in windows 7, this showed the colours inverted i.e. negative, I saved that screengrab to a USB stick and opened it up on my Mac, the image showed correctly i.e. not as a negative.
This is the image that is displayed on the laptop, there is no colour inversion, none of the graphics settings appear incorrectly set, I did actually set all settings back to defaults.
This is the screengrab from the laptop as it displays from another computer, which, in my case was my Mac. The screen appears to be displaying correctly, hence the screengrab image below but for some reason it is displaying an inverted image - Its like there is an overlay on the screen.
Could the inverter be faulty?
Dell Inspiron 5010N :: Screen Goes Dim For About 5 Seconds And Then Comes Back To Full Brightness
Mar 15, 2013I have a year and a half old Inspiron 5010N and after about 5 minutes of being on (plugged in BTW) the screen goes dim for about 5 seconds and then comes back to full brightness. It only seems to do this once, then is fine for the rest of the use. Power setting is for "performance".
Any need to worry about an impending failure or any way to troubleshoot? It's just unnerving and doesn't seem right.

If I leave the screen in this position, the keyboard lights will turn off too. Once I tilt the screen forward and click or hit a key, I'm greeted by the lock screen, and have to enter my password again.

Mar 8, 2014I am trying to connect my G505s to my Bose wireless speaker via Bluetooth. I am not able to find anything relating to Bluetooth in my Device Manager and no Bluetooth drivers. The Bluetooth symbol does not appear in my Windows Taskbar as I've seen it on other PCs. I am running Windows 8.1.
Things I have done so far:
- I downloaded the Atheros,Broadcom driver for Windows 8.1 (8.0.1.306/12.0.0.7850) from the Lenovo website. When I try to install it I am told that there are no valid drivers to be installed.
-I followed the instructions from Windows which said to go into Settings > Change PC Settings > PC & Devices and ensure that Bluetooth is there. Microsoft states that Bluetooth capable computers should have a Bluetooth settings page in here. I don't have one.
- From some reading online I came across instructions to run services.msc and change the Bluetooth settings in there. I followed these instructions and didn't have any luck. All of the Bluetooth listings in here state that Bluetooth is running.
- Made sure that my computer setting to locate other devices is enabled.
I'm not really sure if this computer is Bluetooth ready or not. If it isn't, I'm not sure why there are Bluetooth things "running" in services.msc though...
Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T510 Won't Boot Up (black Screen) After HDD Pulled Out And Put Back Again
Nov 22, 2014I've just out my hdd to check whether the ssd will fit there, just checked whether the slot is ok. Then I put back the original HHD very carefully. After that I opened the extra RAM slot, took it out and put it back, also VERY carefully. I didn't harm the laptop in any way.
Then I turned the computer on and it was just a black screen, nothing happening. No indicators lighted up, except for power button. I cannot enter BIOS, no response whatsoever.

Jan 9, 2015The day before yesterday I bought a new Lenovo IdeaPad U330p without operating system. I already installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, Microsoft Office 2013 and some drivers.
Yesterday everything worked properly, but since today there's always a bluetooth symbol appearing (approximately) every 20 sec) on the right side of the screen. It disappears immediately.
It is not possible to click on the symbol, it still disappears.
I already tried to uninstall the Bluetooth-driver, but it didn't work. After restart they are reinstalled automatically.

Apr 8, 2010I so wanted to like it because it does everything I need in such a portable package but whoever created the trackpad design should be freaking shot.
I've tried all of the various settings and the latest drivers but all of them freak out pretty badly if you leave you motion finger on the trackpad at the same time as clicking. God forbid you actually want to click and drag something (in the normal "hold down the button and move the pointer" method, not any custom gestures).
The limited tilting on the screen was really annoying (use thee laptop a fair amount at home standing up) but it would have been workable if it weren't for the trackpad issues.
Guess I'll be looking at the elitebooks and precision workstations instead (giving up on the portability for a better screen and usability)

Sep 25, 2014There is a major issue here with Dell's Touchpad drivers, they simply do not work. Anytime I try to use the Touchpad the mouse goes flying all over the place and is completely useless. Whenever the screen is folded back into tablet mode--they keyboard will not lock.
Have been on phone with Dell for hours on this with no resolve. There are a lot of people complaining about the same thing, Dell doesn't see to understand this.
Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: Spiral Symbol When Move Finger On Ultranav Touchpad?
Jun 24, 2014I get this spiral symbol (see above image) in place of my mouse indicator when I move my fingers a certain way on the ultranav mousepad.
One way it occurs is if I move my finger from left to right or right to left across the bottom of the ultranav mousepad.
It interferes with me being able to move the mouse. I suspect it is to prevent inadvertant movement of the mouse when your finger just brushed the ultranav mousepad. I would like to turn it off if possible.

It works fine but every now and then when she is using it the character set jumps to French and we can't figure out how to get English back. Any ideas ?
The last time it happened, she was browsing Yahoo using Explorer. She accidentally hits a key (easy thing to do on that keyboard) and wala, its in French. Then she has no option but to reboot. When she logs back in, its back in English.

Apr 22, 2010Had a venturous youngster tamper with my laptop yesterday, and that person managed to set a bios password. The machine will boot with out it, but it is requesting an administrator password in order to access the BIOS settings. Heh, I wouldn't have even noticed if I hadn't decided to load Ubuntu 10.04 for the first time.... Needed access to the boot order.
So, does anyone happen to know the back door password or any other option for me to get this fixed? It would be easy if I could pull the mobo ID from the OS, but HP thought ahead on this and I fear that they may have done the same thing with the password issue.
