Dell :: 1525 Cmos Change?
Sep 19, 2009
I have a Dell 1525, bought in April 08, about 3 months ago time started to get out of sync and multiple problems with battery "plugged in not charging."
So today after charging the battery from a friends external battery charger ( friend had same problem) I was updating the BIOS to A16 from A06 and when the laptop was restarting with the bios update I get a message saying "Time of Day Clock Stopped."
My question is if I replace the CMOS battery will this solve the problem?
Looking at dell documentation from
http://support.dell.com/support/edoc....htm#wp1179839
looks tedious and time consuming but not hard .....

I've been losing date and time recently. I update files, then take them home on a USB flash drive and they appear to be older than what's at home. Turns out my date and time are maintaining. I have to reset date and time when I boot up now. Pretty sure I need to swap out the CMOS battery (maybe a CR2032?) how to find it once the case is opened?

Recently replaced the CMOS battery ourselves after getting the 5 beeps. Put everything back together but a couple of screws were loose and came out. Regardless the computer booted up fine and worked for a week. Yesterday it would not power on, at all. Unscrewed everything, opened it up, found some loose connections and tightened up, then replaced missing screws, seemed that they were tight and not spinning in place. Computer powered on fine. Next day, computer powers on again. Then, after a brief power down, it won't come on. AGAIN. Opened everything back up and saw the hard drive was loose so tightened that up via external screw. Put back together and made sure all connections were tight and re-screwed. Still will not power on.

Dell Studio XPS 1640 1645 Serial Flash CMOS PINS
The process to be used appears credibly outlined at the following web address: http://www.darkmagic.org/mike/dell-tag/dell/dell.html
But the laptop used in the above web site is not that of a Dell Studio XPS 1640 or 1645. So parts location, disassembly and reassembly are unique with the 1640 & 1645.
I have had the 'privilege' to be stonewalled by Dell 'customer service' when requesting the lost password to access CMOS & BIOS setup on my Dell Studio XPS 1640.
I purchased a used Studio XPS 1640 that was just under 2 months out of warranty from another who was disgusted with the hassles that have developed with some of the 1640s & 1645s over heat, throttling, RGB screen blinking, inadequate power supply, etc, etc. The formal transfer of ownership was immediately completed on Dell's web-site .....

in February 2013, I bought 2 Inspiron R17-5720 in Amazon. Now, in both laptops, it is impossible to boot the machine.
When I power on, appears the Dell logo and nothing more.
I run the CD Utilities and I got the following message:
Error code 4C00:0320
MSG:SYSTEM:CMOS failed the pattern test.

i have an Acer Travelmate 290 that barely starts these days. Fan is starting properly but screen remains black. Sometimes the bootscreen appears and then the screen goes white after some seconds. I can go into BIOS or run Memtest+ for some seconds but it always gets white some time later. I removed all modular parts and exchanged RAMs already. It got worse lately. Whereas the device starts maybe one of 10 attempts and remains stable for seconds it was working for minutes weeks ago. I detached/disassembled the notebook completely already several times. I don't have any Pentium-M replacement so this is the only part i couldn't swap yet.
I measured the cmos coin cell. It holds 2.539V of 3.0V. Looks empty but CMOS values are still ok i think (date is correct if i enter BIOS). Is it possible that the CMOS cell is responsible for those false starts?

I have a grandson just older enough to be dangerous around a computer. Recently I allowed him to use my 5610Z to make some pictures of himself, etc. Later the family went home far from here. Still later I tried to start the Laptop and "enter supervisor password" would appear each time I tried to start it. I'm never used a password, don't even know how to do such a thing. Naturally I called and he "remembers nothing!"
I'm old, 75, and do not have good vision. I found in the Manual for the Model a page showing "Jumper Settings" and a diagram with the description, 'Clear CMOS Jumper.
Note:
J3 locates at the bottom side of the main board as the red circle highlighted." Fine, I found it physically but don't know how to turn it on or off. I've pulled batteries to clear CMOS before but never had to deal with a switch.
Would I be correct in using tweezers and just pulling the square object up, or try to turn it?
I miss my Acer. Two years, never a blue screen, nor freeze up. I want it back running before I kick the bucket.

I have a Compaq 6710b that was given to me for work. My friend put a password on it that requires me write in before the computer will boot in order for me to log-in to my work account. I believe that this is called a BIOS or CMOS or a boot password. My friend said that it is for extra security. I know the password and have no problems getting past this point, but I do not want to have to enter this first password to get to where I log-in onto my work account. The computer was not like this when I got it and I do not want to take it to a tech at work and explain to him what my idiot friend did. The friend does not know how to change it back so that I do not have to enter this password.

Get a blank screen on the first reboot after disabling the secure boot following the procedure in this link: URL....
Laptop is
Product- F5Y33UA#ABA
Model - 15-d017d
(Thats all the info on the back, no product line eg... pavillion, envy, etc)
Tried a hard reset but no joy. Looking at some other posts on this forum, it seems that the next logical step would be to reset the CMOS. Trouble is I can't find any documentation to do with this laptop anywhere, so am unsure of the procedure.

I have a HP G60-126NR laptop. One day, it was stone cold when I press power button. I discharged the mothboard. I then installed a new CMOS battery . I am using the power adapter to power unit. When I press the power button , I get nothing toally dead, except to show the power connection light. If I remove the CMOS battery, then discharge the motherboard again, then plug in , and the laptop powers up without touching power button, and goes into setup screen to enter time. After entering time , it boots into Windows without issue. Windows SFC scan shows no error. If I shut down, not sleep, the laptop is dead again unless I discharge motherboard and start from square one. Also, I want to say that while Windows is running, if I close the lid to put to sleep, you can see that the screen is still active despite changing "what happens when I close lid". My diagnostics tells me it needs a new motherboard. PS: I did flash the BIOS off of HP Website thinking it would resolve my issue, but it did not ....

I ran de PSA diagnostics on my Studio 1555 and I got the error 2000 - 0212 (CMOS failed the pattern test). I changed the CMOS setting to default, ran the test again, and I got the same error.
Called Dell tech support, they told me that they are going to replace my board. My original problem is that Win7 is taking more than normal to start (2 - 3 minutes to be ready).
I got an Intel C2D P8700, 4GB RAM DDR2 800MHz, ATI Radeon 4570HD 512mb, 250GB Samsung HD 5400RPM. It should start fast, since the HD has no fragments, the win reg is ok and I have not crappy services or programs at startup. Does any1 know what is this error about?

HP dv7-3065dx Entertainment Notebook. Win 7.
HP battery alert system detected battery capacity to be very low error 601 (internal battery). So I changed the cell to a new CR 2032 battery. Showed the same error. I changed to another new CR2032 battery. The second time I did this I had a new 502 CMOS error along with the 601 error. My clock reverted back to 2009, I lost some of the icons on the lower right, and my wireless internet disappeared.
Now I have two things that need to be fixed.
I turned on, immediately hti ESC, hit system diag. F2, Battery Test:
Battery Test Primary FAILED (on the first battery I put in, didn't check on the second)
Control - Device Mgr. - HP - Batteries - Microsoft AC Adapter, Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and Microsoft Composit Battery all show that they work.
System CMOS/realtime clock says its working.
Microsoft System Mgmt. - BIOS Driver v. 6.1.7601.17514 from 6/21/2006 says it's the latest version.
I've manually updated my clock. I'll figure out the wireless and icons later I guess. Just need to know what to do about the errors.

Are all dells complete wastes of money like this? My much cheaper Acer outlasted this hunk of crap.
Anyhow, according to the computer my battery is dead and needs to be replaced, but why the hell does the battery have such a crap life? or is it something else? This laptop has spent 90% of its life on the A/C charger

My cousin has an Inspiron 1525 laptop which has had an issue of booting. Randomly one day she received the following message, "Internal hard drive not found. Reseat hard drive". It also said from below "Boot to CD by pressing any key" that the "BOOTMGR is not found".
I received the laptop in this state. I booted from the CD (Windows install disc) and was able to reinstall Vista. I then updated all the drivers and had everything working like a charm. I thought I had hit jackpot with an easy reformat. After about 4 hours of having it running perfectly, as I was installing Windows updates, I received the "Internal hard drive not found. Reseat hard drive" message. Now I cannot boot into Windows and booting from the CD no longer works.
Here are some of the specs:
T2390 Dual Core 1.86Ghz
2GB RAM
160GB SATA HDD
Is the hard drive dying? Is it the SATA controller? The motherboard? Anyone have any ideas or past experiences?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. The 6-cell battery that came with it stopped holding its charge, so I bought a new 9-cell battery. Now that one won't hold a charge. I figured it must be the cord, so I bought a new one. It still won't hold a charge. When I run my mouse over the battery icon, it says XX% (currently 37%) available (plugged in, not charging). I know just enough about computers to be dangerous, but not enough to figure out what is wrong. Can anyone help me trouble shoot?
