The screen does work in "safe mode", so the screen is functioning. It might be something with the graphics settings (I use a separate screen on this computer often). Step-by-step procedure to run in safe mode to check out the problem?
View 6 RepliesI have a Dell 1525 laptop which will not boot beyond the Dell logo, I get a black screen with a white cursor. I tried to use the last known good configuration and it started out fine but I got the black screen again. I can't go into the safe mode, it only goes as far as loading the files. I tried booting from the cd to do a repair but that options says there are no problems. I attached an external monitor and I get the same black screen with the white cursor. I am running Vista Home as my operating system.

When I boot as normal into XP there are broken lines on screen like electrical interference and then when XP tries to start the screen goes black.
When I boot into safe mode the screen is fine but obviously not at 1900x1200 resolution.
I've noticed my graphics card fan is not spinning so I'm assuming the card wont run at 1900x1200 when it senses the fan has died ?
I have a dell M5030. When I power it up I see the dell logo with F2/F12 options. I can get into both of those, after that screen disappears it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. I have tried various "fixes" that i can find online, from powering it down hitting f12 to try and boot from hard drive, nothing seems to work. I have ran the diagnostics fully and no errors come up, but I can not seem to get it to do anything. F8 does not work for me to try to go to safe mode.

If I start up windows normally, it will think and then shows a window that says " a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".. I pressed F12 at startup and chose diagnostics and I got the error code 0142. What should I do??
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 15 320gb hard drive that I purchased in August 2013. It has been a great computer until last night.
I shut it down and later rebooted it.
It seemed normal until the wallpaper ( a photo of mine ) appeared as normal. The date and time was showing along with signal strength and battery strength.
None of my short cuts appeared and none of the keys on the key board work - at all.
I tried rebooting and hitting F8 to go to safe mode - nothing.
I tried a memory stick and a SD card but computer will not recognize anything. I would go back to all factory defaults and lose my files if I could get access.
I start the laptop and I get the black screen with the Dell logo on it. There is a progress bar at the bottom that moves across to the right as the boot up progresses. In the bottom right corner, it shows the option of hitting F2 for Set Up or F12 for Boot Menu. I can access both of these menus. It then progresses to a screen with the Windows logo with the words "Resuming Windows" underneath. Once that completes, I get a black screen!
I was told that I should boot up the laptop in safe mode by hitting F8.....
I can't seem to get this to work.
My Inspiron N5050 no longer boots up, not even in safe mode or "last known good configuration." Decided to reinstall the Operating System, but need to know whether I have 32 bit or 64 bit.Have all the originbal documentation, including system specifications, but cannot tell whether my laptop is 32 bit or 64 bit.How to determine if you can't boot up the system?

I can't get to safe mode. I can get to the setup and boot manager. I tried running diagnostics and there were no errors.

If you are or have in the past and you contacted Dell about it were your issues resolved to your satisfaction and what did Dell do to resolve those issues? I'm considering purchasing an Inspiron 1525 to replace a 2 year old damaged Inspiron 1300 but I'd like to get some feedback from posters on this board who happen to own an Inspiron 1525.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a dell Inspiron Dell1525 with the bluetooth mouse they sent me. I left the mouse on and had to change the batteries. The mouse worked fine. I took a food break and left the mouse on.
When I tried to use it, the cursor didn't appear on the screen. Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is the bluetooth connection needs to be redone. Any ideas how to do it?
Vista Home Premium, didn't have a disc so ordered one from Dell. Upon startup it ask me to put a disc in to repair.
Will this work, my understanding you needed a Vista disc, and this computer does not seem to have a partition with Vista on it, for the repair. I wondering if this will work? I tried diagnostics everything seems fine, but it loops to safe mode.
I have Dell N4010 laptop with 4GB ram (1333 Mhz, 2X2) purchased in Jan 2011. Recently I bought transcend 4GB 1333 and have removed existing 2GB ram and replaced with 4GB to increase the physical memory to 6GB. I can see that the ram has been detected and the total is showing up in Bios. After this, the system does not boot, it just keep restarting.
I tried to start with safemode, however the files load but at the end, I receive a blue screen with error like '...Bad pool header...'.

today i tried turing on my laptop its a G56. and the hp logo came on after that i got a black screen with a white cursor blinking. now i tried the hard reset that did not work, there are no blinking lights. i also tested the hard drive and memory and everything passed. i also tride f11 system recovery and does nothing just goes to a black screen again. also a friend of mine has the same exact laptop i tried swapping hard drives to see maybe if it was my computer but his hard drive work fine on my comp. then i put my hard drive in his comp and did the same exact thing, black screen with the white cursor.

The laptop blue screens with a Stop error code 00000F4 when booted in either Normal and Safe Mode. This problem started after installing a program although it may also have a malware/virus problem. The inbuilt Startup Repair and System Restore both fail.
I have the Acer Recovery disks but the Acer eRecovery website suggests that all personal data will be lost if they are used. Is it possible to repair the OS installation from the recovery disks instead of reinstalling it?
I have a HP pavilion G6 which worked fine for like half a year. Today i wanted to startup my laptop, but it seems to be stuck on a black screen (with my cursor appeared) after the HP loading screen. Sometimes at the startup it says "preparing automatic restore", but results after loading at the same black screen.I tried to solve this problem with the following things:
1. Hard reset (turn off everything, hold power button 30 seconds, turn on everything and startup etc.)
2. Replacing RAM. Someone at the forum said this worked, but it didn't.
3. Tried taking off all USB devices such as mouse, DC adapter etc. and started up but didn't work.
A month ago i tried doing a factory reset, but my laptop seemed to be stuck on the same black screen.
After logging in I get stuck in a black screen with cursor. Have tried shift or control with f8 and f12 to get out of this with no success. Understand I may have to reinstall video driver or BIOS?
If I leave laptop on all day it is working by the time I get home from work.
So my Acer Aspire e5 571 which ive been using for about 3 days just had a windows update. Now it starts up fine but I get a black screen once I log in. However some programs are still able to see and popup randomly. I also tried going into my bIOS but it asks for a password which I do not know.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new Lenovo Z50-75 with FreeDOS - I made a Windows 8.1 installation, and all went fine.
After installing the around 70 updates - at one point it reboots and I get a black screen, right after shortly seeing the Lenovo Logo ( entering BIOS works ).
It is not booting Windows at all - I can not enter Safe Mode therefore, and I do not get any cursor.
The behaviour is reproduceable, done this 2 times. Also when it hangs in the black screen, the van get reall busy, lound and the notebook gets hot.
When I open My Aspire One It shows: "Acer explore beyond limits" and then the screen turns dark grey, if I move the mouse the white arrow appears and moves but that is it. If I leave the computer for a while the screen turns black if I move the mouse it turnes dark grey again and arrow appears.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wife and daughter both have Dell Inspiron 1525's. My daughter's works flawlessly while my wife's has one irritating glitch. When the lid is closed, instead of going into sleep mode, it reboots itself. It doesn't complete itself though it always stops at the "windows shutdown improperly how do you want to restart" or something like that screen...it's the dos screen that says do you want to start windows normally or in safe mode, etc.
When it does this it never shuts off so I'll get home from work or I'll get up in the morning to find the fan has run all night...It was purchased in august and I'd hate for my wife to prematurely burn this thing up.
I've gone into ms config and one by one tried to isolate what the problem could be. Sometimes I have it narrowed down or actually got the culprit because once in awhile it'll do what it's supposed to do....then next time the lid gets closed it goes back to the existing problem.
I suspect its a driver, but I have a T540P that is Black Screening with Windows 7 with cursor at what appears to be the login.
View 5 Replies View Relatedour laptop keeps throwing a flakey when trying to install Win7 Ultimate over the current crappy Vista OS.
Laptop passed the compatibility checker no probs & has all the updates installed, but every time we try, we get either
1. windows 7 install failure message then black screen with cursor
or
2. straight to black screen with cursor.
This is even after changing to the low res setting that is mentioned so often when googling the issue.
I've looked on the Acer site, but it says if I got it from pc world I should take it up with them?
Anyone here have any advice to get it to work, or should we just smash the laptop off a wall?
Just installed Visa 64 , everything went fine , but every time i boot into Vista i get a black screen with a white cursor in the top left have corner flashing very fast and it does this for almost 60 seconds and then Vista boots normally.
I have tried unplugging everything from my Mac , but i still get the same problem.
It looks like Vista is wating for something then it gives up, I have not installed any software only the bootcamp driver.
Anybody know what is wrong, I had Xp on previously and did not have this problem on fat32 , Vista only works on NTFC if that makes a difference.

After windows loads with the glowing animation, the login screen does not appear. I cannot open a task manager. I don't know if it's a problem with explorer.exe or what.
The explorer.exe crashed when I tried to connect to an external hard drive, and I tried to get task manager to open, but it wouldn't open.
That's when I tried to restart computer, and login screen would not appear. All I have is a black screen with cursor.
I have an S440. I've had it for one week. Two days ago I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store. Since then, when I start up the computer, it doesn't even taken me to the 'sign in' screen. There's just a black screen. When I move the cursor, it briefly appears, flickers, then disappears again.
I understand this is an issue with the graphics drivers. So I ran Windows in safemode and disabled Intel R HD Graphics family and AMD Radeon HD 8600 series graphics drivers.
This, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the problem. It still boots to a black screen with an occasionally flickering cursor. I'm currently running in safemode.
My dell inspiron 3537 has been showing this problem. When i press the power button on, the display remains black though the fan and dvd writer works . this is followed by 7 beeps . The First beep is loud and remaining 6 are short beeps. Beeping repeats untill i press the power button. My laptop is only around 6 months old.
