View 5 RepliesI have a new T540p and I have an issue with numlock when logging into the computer. (This is NOT the numlock on-screen display icon). Basically, whenever I get ready to type my password in the login box, it brings up a warning that my Numlock is on and that "your password may be entered incorrectly".
I understand the need for this warning on keyboards without a separate numpad, but my T540p has a full-size keyboard with a separate numpad PLUS I am using an external keyboard. This error comes up both with and without an external keyboard.
This wouldn't be a problem except that this warning is especially aggressive and never in the same spot twice, and will sometimes even entirely cover the username AND password field with an ugly black box.
BTW, this is Windows 7 Pro (purchased downgraded from Win 8). I just can't figure this out, it's gotta be something with the Lenovo software but I can't find it.
I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.
Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows.
Things I have tried
-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software
-setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options
-disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager.
I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue.
Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models?
I have a ThinkPad X230 Tablet. I tried system restore and safe mode, but none of it works.
After windows loads with the glowing animation, the login screen does not appear. I cannot open a task manager. I don't know if it's a problem with explorer.exe or what.
The explorer.exe crashed when I tried to connect to an external hard drive, and I tried to get task manager to open, but it wouldn't open.
That's when I tried to restart computer, and login screen would not appear. All I have is a black screen with cursor.
My T540p with Window 7 is experiencing problems starting and shutting down. After booting up I often get a blank screen where just the moused pointer is displayed. I have to hold the power button down to shut down and then try again. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 goes to boot-up. Quite often when I shut down Win 7 The desktop icons disappear but the desktop background continues to be displayed and the notebook doesn't shut down.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSomething strange happened on my T440s today when I first turned it on...it booted to windows, then I entered my windows login pin, and then the screen went blank/dark instead of going to the windows 8 tiles. so I closed the lid, and it went to hibernate. and when I opened the lid again the screen came back on and it worked fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my Acer Aspire e5 571 which ive been using for about 3 days just had a windows update. Now it starts up fine but I get a black screen once I log in. However some programs are still able to see and popup randomly. I also tried going into my bIOS but it asks for a password which I do not know.
View 9 Replies View RelatedToday I was surfing the internet on my Lenovo t500 ubuntu. After a Kernel Panic ( i'm not sure it was that some text on my screen ). I shutdown the computer and restart it but the screen stayed black. Not even Thinkpad logo at boot. The fan is working the lid are working, the keyboard too. So after trying to fix it i went on a walk while the computer was on and when I got back I heard the ubuntu noise when it start. So i try but terminal to run music and it works but the screen stay black. I tried to remove RAM, 10 times shutdown without battery or plug. Nothings worked. I cannot try without another screen yet..
View 9 Replies View RelatedLenovo T400 to install Windows XP on it..It previously worked fine with windows 7 and 8.1.so it boots in windows XP preinstall screen, it formats hdd and like usual installation automatically restarts after that BUT its black screen, lights and sounds show that it works and goes to next screen BUT the screen is still black. Powering down and turn on again is not showing any screen picture. Opened it removed Bios battery, turned up after few on and off it starts it reset bios.
So now there is picture and it goes on the next screen of windows instalation like normal, after installing devices and stuff it automatically restarts like usual BUT it has NO screen again, black screen, lights and sounds again show that its loading windows end instalation screen but no picture on the screen. Reset BIOS again, it starts normaly and this time it shows BSoD with code 0x7B, after BSOD Black screen again..Maybe its a BIOS setting?!? tried installing with drivers for AHCI and tried installing without drivers for Compatible , what else can it be? Updated the bios to latest version, same result. To say it again - it works fine with other windows, but XP must be installed
What's the best way to move everything from my current t540p to the new one? Both have same OS, win7. I was thinking of backing up on USB external hard drive and then restoring?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter updating my Thinkpad T540p, I cannot adjust the brightness in anyway. This is a problem because the screen is too birght and eats up battery.
It appears the only way to adjust the brightness is to use Intel HD Graphics, which isn't so convenient.
Fn keys don't work. changing the brightness on the Power Manager settings doesn't work. There is no brightness option on Windows Power Manager.
I have Intel HD Graphics 4600 10.18.10.3960
I have Lenovo Power Manager 6.66.3
Edit: In fact, I think it's posisble that Power Manager to just outright no longer works.
I've purchased this ram from the lenovo site for my T440p laptop and they said its compatible with the original 4gb RAM which it has. but when I install it in the other free slot and turn it on it cames with a black screen and stucks in it!! When I take it out everything is ok and it turns on normally.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a T420s that I bought a couple weeks earlier, it's a used one, so there's no warranty with it, I used it several days without any issue, I don't use it very frequently as I use my corporate one most of the time.
Someday when I wanted to turn it on, it stacks on a black screen and it beeps one beep then two other, nothing showing on the screen not even the thinkpad logo at startup, I thought it was a RAM related issue so I put the one from my corporate PC but without any luck, so I wanted to see if its graphic controller issue, I plug the VGA cable on the laptop and my TV and here I can see the thinkpad startup logo but after that I see a message on the screen telling :
"Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings. Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter setup" and when I press either one nothing happen at all, still stacks there.
I have the T540p and the webcam doesn't work at all. When I try using it in Skype and Adobe Connect, I just get the camera icon with a slash through it. I've read in other forums that uninstalling the webcam driver and reinstalling it doens't work. I really need the webcam to work so this is pretty urgent for me.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a two month old Lenovo T540p with win 8.1 and a Realtek 2x2 1 1b/g/n wireless Lan M.2 adaptor that loses the connection to all wifi every 10 minute. The wifi worked fine in the beginning, but after a month and some updates the problem started.
Lan cable works without any problem.
I can always fix the wifi with turning off all wifi ( t. ex. fn+f8) wait 5 seconds and turn it on again. But after aprox. 10 min. it drops out again.
Every part of the laptop is up to date, even bluetooth driver, bios etc..
I tried another router same result. I tried changing channel on the router.
I tried connecting to a hotspot on my smartphone, same result.
The distance to the router makes no difference.
The Laptop is scanned for virus with Avast free.
I use chrome but tried IE and mozilla with the same result.
I tried to ping the router and it receives no data when the connection is lost.
I tried turning the firewall off, same result.
There no power saving on wifi.
Everything is fine in device management
Maybe its a win8 issue ? Do I really have to format the hd turn the computer back to beginning and start all over ? This shouldn't happen to a brand new computer.
My new T540p came with IE 11, and from time to time, I get a bar across the top of the big window where it's asking me to type in my *Windows* password. Not for whatever site I'm on, but my WINDOWS password. My year or so older T440 does not do this, nor does my non-Lenovo work IE11. There's a red cirle in the far right of the bar, with a "voice balloon" with 4 Xs.
The machine is virus free, but why I'm getting this prompt ONLY in the browser.
I just got a brand new Thinkpad T540p. I'm very happy with it, but I miss the battery indicator I had in the taskbar on my older Thinkpads:
I am trying to get it back/install it, but I keep failing at it. In particular, I have searched around ThinkVantage Power Manager software, found and installed this: [URL]
I bought a T540p. It came with windows 8. I tried to install windows 7 pro 64 bit. It now hangs on the starting windows screen and I can't get to the desktop. how I can get it to work? Are there any bios settings that need to be different for windows 7?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have purchased an 8 gb Kingston Ram module ( KTL-TP3CL). My plan was to upgrade my thinkpad T540p with 12 gb of ram. My configuration is ( i5/4gb ram/hd 4600/W7 pro/500gb hdd). The thing is that I am having second thoughts about having two modules from a different manufacturer and of different capacity.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a t540p thinkpad and started migrating to the new machine with my all stuff from the old one. Unfortunately I've encountered a problem which I cannot resolve by myself.
I've got preinstalled Windows 7 which came with 2 partitions for itself - system_partition and os_files. After them there are 2 more primary partitions: Lenovo_Recovery and hibernation partition for 30-day standby.
I really want to rearrange these volumes so I can divide the files betweend OS C: partition and D: partition for my data. The problem is that there are already 4 primary partitions at this disk which is the limit for MBR so I can't create any more.
I've tried to boot up a linux mint live usb with gparted, but the system didn't start. Probably some UEFI issues which I cannot afford to deal with now.
So my disk looks like this at the moment:
- system_drv - 1,46 GB - system, active, primary
- os - 60 GB - bootable, pagefile, primary
- unallocated - 154,25 GB (space for D: partition which I got from shrinking OS partition)
- lenovo_recovery - 15,76 GB, primary
- (no name) - 7 GB - hibernation partition, primary
So, is there any possibility to change the volume with OS partition to the extended one and create second logical partition for my D: partition? Or maybe there is a way to change hibernation partition to the extended one?
If both options above are not possible I would be grateful for specifying the steps to fully disable the 30-day standby so I can delete hibernation partition (however the 7 GB at the end of disk will be unused then because I still won't be able to attach them to C: or D: partition). I assume that simply unchecking the option in the Global Setting of Lenovo Power Manager won't be enough.
i cant find bios mode sata menu for ahci i use m.2ssd 256gb i want m,2ssd os boot!!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a PC technician building a Thinkpad T540p for an end user. It is running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. I have installed all the drivers directly from the Lenovo support page. My problem is that the function key to turn the Wireless Radio is not working. I have checked function lock. The other function keys do their marked function fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the hotkey driver as well as the wireless driver and I still can not get it to work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA new T440s makes multiple times problems after start or sleep mode. Windows 7 comes up but instead of login screen a black screen appears. Just the F7 wireless control gives response. When it happens after wake a programs are runing in background but the screen is black.
I did already all updates, just not my BIOS, it is 2.11 but now 2.19 is available. I hesitate BIOS updates.
I could return the laptop since it is within the 2 week return garantie.
I have lenovo ThinkPad T540p. With Intel Core I7, 8gb RAM and 500gb HDD. I think my HDD is Toshiba. There was Windows 7 on it but it won't boot on it anymore. When I start Windows it shows 5 second black screen and then it shows Boot Menu. Well, I tried to reinstall Windows but when I have to select on which drive to install Windows I've got an error: "No drives were found". And the list with drives is empty, so I can't reinstall Windows. I updated BIOS but it didn't work. Finally, I formated my HDD and created two partitions on it. It worked, but not for a long time. I installed Windows 7. Everything was fine until I restarted my computer. And then I've got the same problem: "Can't boot from HDD" and it shows Boot Menu. Then I started Windows installation and I've got the same error: "No drives were found".
I don't understand what's going on with my HDD and what's destroying it's partitions. And I don't think that my HDD is broken.
I have the T540p with Win 8.1, actual drivers. Updates as in the web site. It works in the Ultra Dock with a 135 W power supply.
Attached to the Dock are following USB Peripherals
1) MS Keyboard 4000
2) Ms Mouse
3) Web Cam (Logitech 920)
After some time (sometimes 10 Min after booting, sometimes longer), the USB ports do not work. Unplugging the peripherals and plugging them into other USB ports of the dock does the trick, but the previous ones do not longer work until the next start.
The Screen goes blank. Sometimes but not always I get a message from the power manager stating that plane mode has been initiated due to power supply problems. I have tried connecting the thinkpads own 135 w supply, but no difference.

I recently bought a Thinkpad 540p and wanted to know a way for stopping the battery from getting charged after a certain level. Its a very common feature to stop a battery from charging say after 80% and run on AC power supply directly.
Other lenovo laptops do support it, under various apps like Energy Manager, or Power Manager but I am not able to find any such options/app on my laptop?
I recently bought a Thinkpad T540P laptop. But there is always some noise made by the hard drive. The noise makes me feel uncomfortable. It sounds like it has been used for a long time, but actually only two days.
