Sep 19, 2013I formatted my laptop and installed windows 7, and I want to reformat but can not access the BIOS SETUP, already tried different keys without success?

View 5 RepliesI've a Lenovo G580 Laptop (2nd Gen PDC B960, 2 GB, 500 GB, DOS) When I bought it came pre-installed DOS, and then I install Windows 7 ultimate (32-bit, i didn't know at that time, 2nd gen PDC are 64-bit). My friend recommend me to disable UEFI from boot setup before installing any non-genuine OS, so I did disable that. My laptop is working fine, but all of a sudden it started to do random mouse freezes, surprisingly pressing ALT+F4 works like a charm to make mouse work again (by mouse I mean pointer actually,I think may be it's because any virus/malware or whatever that was, and also I was planning to change my OS to Windows 8 (it's after 10-11 month of purchase date), so I decided to format anyway, instead messing up with mouse freeze problem.
I'm not able to start my BIOS setup, nor able to use quick boot option (to select various bootable device option from list)
I try to press recovery key (small button near power button), that open recovery module properly (no glitch/error).but unfortunately I don't have any backup made previously so no use of recovery module.
and then I restart my laptop, then I press F2, it shows the first screen of BIOS menu, but my system stuck there (unresponsive state), i've no option else directly turning it off by holding power key for few seconds,..
and then no boot menu F2, F12 still unresponsive.
means whenever i open recovery module it able to open F2 menu (not F12) but that stuck too.else it just completely ignore F2, F12 I'm not a computer noob (not flaunting), but I spend last 4-5 hours looking for a solution for it, but couldn't find any solution by myself.
although my laptop is not in not working state. somehow I manage to install windows 8, but it's really weird that I can not access BIOS menu, my laptop is no longer in warranty period so I can experiment with it any way I want.
I just got an acer aspire timeline 5810tz, which came with vista, so i was in the process of reformatting it to have XP, which i've done several times on my previous laptops. When i changed the bios to IDE, which is what i read was the correct setting (perhaps this is where my problem is?), i found that i could no longer boot the computer or access setup, bios or the boot menu. When i attempt to do any of these things, the computer just sits on the logo screen.
i'm getting fairly desperate at this point, having tried a large variety of solutions, key combos, removing the battery, etc.
I have searched the issue and all I can see is I have to flash the bios. I am not comfortable doing that because I have done this before on my Alienware and it took me three days to restart the computer. Everything was messed up.
Â
All I want to be able to do is charge USB devices when the computer is in sleep mode. I have set Windows 8 power mode up, but it appears the BIOS is still preventing this from happening. So I need to access the BIOS.When the computer restarts no message appears to say *'hit F2 to enter BIOS'.So I have tried, Fn + F2, Fn + F1, F1, F2 and none enter the bios on start up. How do I enter bios on this Z50?
I am trying to enter bios and have tried the following and failed.
Â
1) Through Advance Setup in Windows UEFI Firmware
2) FN F2 / F2
3) NOVO Key
Â
The NOVO gives me an option to Bios Setup but it just boot me back to Windows 8.1.
I run in some problem with Bios. Few days ago I have changed some settings in Bios and now I can't access it. There is no press enter to interupt booting, F1 or others buttons don't call Bios on boot. What I can do to enter Bios settings again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to access my BIOS recently, but whenever I attempt to do so, all I get is a constant beep sound. I used to be able to access the BIOS just fine, but now I can't. The computer itself still boots fine, though I also can't select any boot options either.
Â
I thought I could fix this by resetting the BIOS, but there doesn't appear to be any way of doing that. The CMOS battery is nowhere to be found, and there is no BIOS update for the Y510p that I can apply.
Â
I can get back into the BIOS?
I bought a u310 slightly used but had a failing HDD. The person who was using it installed an operating system on the SSD and now I can't seem to access the bios at all. I had read that this may happen if Rapid Start is not disabled before formatting the SSD.Â
Â
What do I need to do to be able to access the bios again? There is no bios files listed as a download for this computer so I can't even seem to be able to flash the bios.
Â
I already sent it to lenovo to replace the HDD and instead they tried to charge me $167 to image the machine, which I said no to and they sent the computer back without fixing it.
I want to look at the boot option settings on my HP 15 Notebook PC. When I boot, I hit the F1 key and basic information about my PC pops up, but I cannot get into the BIOS setup.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my Lenovo G500s 1.1 years (1 year & 1 month). It worked perfectly until last month. It started to freeze. I restarted the computer (btw I was using licenced win8 back then) and then the lenovo logo showed up and it stuck there. I was waiting for about 10 minutes, but nothing happened. I turned it off manually, and then turned it on,it was still frozen. after some trial of startup, it worked normally. After 2 days it happened again. I thought it was the system, so I deleted the windows8 and installed windows8.1 licensed, it worked for a month and then again (last night) it just freezes at startup (lenovo logo shows up). Till now its frozen. I restarted it several times, it didnt work. I also pulled out battery & started on AC power which didnt work too. Obviously, i dont have warranty.

How I can update the BIOS so I can be able to access advanced options such as memory config, enabling turbo boost, overlocking, changing the boot order (HDD, CDROM, USB, etc)
Â
Currently the BIOS is a very simple and doens't give me advanced options and information.
About 2 weeks ago, my z400 automatically updated from windows 8 to windows 8.1. i have been read reviews on whether or not to restore my computer to its original state or continue with 8.1.i have noticed several malfunctions in my unit after the upgrade and quite frankly i am really hesitant on continuing with 8.1.Â
View 4 Replies View Relatedhow the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is covering all my needs perfectly for the moment, I would prefer to disable the NVIDIAÂ dedicated GPU in my Lenovo Z400 for a while.I've already went to the control panel and set the Global Settings for integrated but it still turns on (for a very small amount of time) every now and then.
Â
From my research I would guess I would do it by: (Windows 8)Disabling the "NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M" driver in the Device ManagerSwitching from "Switchable Graphics" to "UMA Graphics" in the UEFI settingsI would like to know/confirm if:"UMA Graphics" means the Intel HD Graphics 4000 in my caseThe NVIDIA GPU will not actually turn on and generate heat/consume energy.

I bought my lenovo z400 ideapad beginning of April this year and just about two days ago it just turned off and though I plugged it in later it started saying 'plugged in but not charging'. What do you think is the problem?Â
Â
Furthermore I lost the receipt ( the sales receipt) but there is still the model/series no. , is the warranty still on?
I don't want to use the BIOS update method because I think it will make my computer not working anymore.
Â
How do I press [F1], [F2], [F3], [F4], [F5], [F6], [F7], [F8], [F9], [F10], [F11] and [F12] without everytime pressing [Fn] to use these keys. So the original keys are: [Mute], [Vol-], [Vol+], [Close], [Refresh], [Touchpad], [Airplane] [Apps], [Screen], [Projector], [Bright-] and [Bright+], I want them to be: [F1], [F2], [F3], [F4], [F5], [F6], [F7], [F8], [F9], [F10], [F11] and [F12], and when you press [Fn] they be: [Mute], [Vol-], [Vol+], [Close], [Refresh], [Touchpad], [Airplane] [Apps], [Screen], [Projector], [Bright-] and [Bright+].
So since I've bought this computer I've had problems with the two-finger scrolling suddenly stopping, like many people have. That's always been fixable by going into properties, device settings, settings, unchecking/rechecking one of the boxes under "two finger scrolling" and hitting OK.
Â
Now, though, my touchpad is suddenly stuck on one finger scrolling, and it's super annoying. There is no "one finger scrolling" option under the "scrolling" drop down thingy under device settings, so I haven't a clue why this is happening. I've tried the usual fix above, restarting the computer, installing new drivers, but it still does one finger scrolling. Which means it scrolls a lot of the time when I don't want it to, and the pointer seems to get "stuck" at times when I'm just trying to move it around.
I would like to ask about the Lenovo Energy Management software bundled with my Z400. Regarding the Energy Management > Battery > "Optimized Battery Health" in particular. When the battery charges until 60%, does it internally disconnect the charger from my battery? The Power icon in the System Tray says "Plugged in, not charging". Or does the software stops the charging until 60%, and when it lowers the software allows it  to recharge again? I'm worried about getting my battery worn out immediately, as I leave my charger plugged in most of the time.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new Flex 2-15 online the past week. The model name shown on the back is "20405". Manufacture date is May 12, 2014. The User Guide refers to a "Novo Button", which is shown in diagrams as being on both the left edge and the right edge near the front. Neither location has a button of any sort. The right edge has a pinhole in the supposed button location. A curved arrow icon is next to the pinhole. I have an inkling this may be some sort of factory reset button. Lacking the Novo button, what is the procedure for accessing the features which the manual says are accessed by pressing this non-existent button?. That is, BIOS, and/or the one touch image backup/restore system?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a T400 2765-P3U model, and it won't boot up. When you turn it on, you see the Thinkvantage logo and it stays there. Trying to access the BIOS is non-responsive. I connected the hard drive to see if it was a hard drive issue, but it's not. The hard drive is response when connected via USB. I can't get past the Thinkvantage logo, no response when attempting to access the BIOS. It's still under warranty, so I'll probably send it in for repair but thought I'd give it a try fixing it before hand.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new E535 laptop working like a charm up to now. Bios access was possible by pressing Enter directly after switching machine one, than came some sort of POST analysis which could be skipped by pressing any key and than came some sort of table where I could access Bios by pressing some key (cannot remember which it was exactly). Alternatively I could enter Bios when in boot menu by pressing tab which switched to another tab where Bios could be entered (also some sort of diagnosis programs could be started). As mentioned in the subject it is impossible for me to do this now, after I did the following:
Â
- exchanged built in HDD with an new SSD (Bios access yet possible)
- changed in Bios Setup boot mode from both (legacy + UEFI) to Uefi only (this might be the problematic point but I'm not sure)
- Installed Windows 7 in Uefi mode on ssd
Â
No when I press enter on startup it brings me to Windows boot manager menu (you know where you can say start Windows normally or in safe mode and so). Boot menu also changed with a new "start windows" entry (well, this seems to be correct), but when switching to the other tab it is empty now, no entry for Bios setup or diagnosis tests anymore.
Â
This is really bad. I have googled around and tried the following up to now without success:
Â
- Pressing F1 instead of enter
- Shutdown laptop, and start with F1 pressed down
- starting without HDD
- starting unmodified HDD which was originally installed in laptop (which cannot be booted anymore, probably because it was installed in legacy mode)
Â
I have also thought about flashing the bios, but the newest version available on lenovo support seems to be 1.04, but pre installed on my laptop is 1.10, so my version is a lot newer. Should I try to flash it nevertheless ?
My R400 laptop (7447-W14) suddenly freezes on boot: it displays the early logo ("thinkpad, to interrupt normal startup, press the blue Thinkvantage button"), and waits forever, neither the bios menu nor the operating system (windows and ubuntu in dual boot) appears.
Â
I can shutdown by holding the power button more than 5s, but on reboot, the same freeze come back, whatever I do:
- holding the F1 key before and after powering on
- holding the "ThinkVantage" button
- doing this on battery, or with power supply (with or without battery)
- trying to boot on an external USB HD drive
Â
It does not seem to be a CPU problem (nothing would be displayed), nor RAM or harddisk one (it is cheked later, at BIOS time).
Â
In fact, I was wondering wether removing and putting back the small battery of the mainboard would solve this problem ... but this battery seems not to be eaysyly found. At least, it is not under the keyboard, where the RAM is.
Â
of course, warranty has ended ... any way, before I throw this laptop to trash ?Â
I have a X1 Carbon and a OneLink Pro dock. I have it setup with evey thing working, no issue's whatsoever. My concern is that when the laptop is completly charged while connected to the dock, is there any way to switch to battery while staying connected to the dock to be able to use the extrnal monitor, ethernet, and usb ports etc?
Â
What i have noticed is that even when the battery is 100% charged , the dock keeps charging as the battery doesnt fall below 100% and in long term it will reduce the battery life.
I think I mistakenly applied a Windows 8 Energy Management update to Windows 7 64 on a N586 and now the volume and display screen bars do not show.
Â
I'm unable to reload the original drivers: error message "A later version of Energy Management is already installed on this machine. The setup cannot continue"
Â
Now can I resolve this and reinstall the original Energy Management driver?
I have a lenovo u410 with a 500gb hdd and a 24 gb cache. Now, I am experienced with hardware and software and have built/reinstalled a lot of computers before. This time it is a bit different. I did not get my windows 8 key with the computer only the OneKey recovery. I did do a backup with this program when the computer was new and I assume it is on the hdd.
So what I want to do is to replace the hdd with a new 2,5 in ssd and keep my windows 8 licence + all the lenovo goodness ( onekey feature, keyboard shortcuts etc..). What would be the best way of doing this? Can i transfer the backup I did to the new drive?
I clean all partition, using windows instalator to create two partition: 100GB and 890GB. When i try to install windows i see:
,,Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information"
 I set:

Configuration: Sata Controller Mode -> Compatible
Boot mode: Legacy Supprt
Boot priority: Legacy First
Yesterday I flashed the firmware of my XPS L702X to version A19, which enabled UEFI boot mode. I decided to go ahead and try to install Windows 7 in UEFI mode on a GPT disk. Installation succeeded, booting failed however. Then I read a message on the web from someone who succesfully installed Windows 8 on the same machine in UEFI boot mode on a GPT disk. So I decided to try Windows 8 instead. Installation failed. Using the recovery menu from the Windows 8 installation media, I wanted to try and see how far installation had come and more or less accidentally selected in some "Advanced options" menu to reboot to my USB flash drive (where the Windows 8 files were on). Rebooted fine. Then I shutdown, using the regular option.
When I turned on my machine again, I found out that pressing either F2 or F12, for the firmware setup and the boot menu, respectively, didn't work anymore. The firmware recognised my input, as the text in the lower right of the Dell splash screen became lighter, but instead of entering setup or the boot menu went straight ahead to boot my existing and working Windows 7 installation on my first (MBR) hard drive instead.
So, in short, I am locked out of setup and the boot menu. I have already tried reflashing the firmware, but without any luck. What to do now?
In my business, we created supervisor password and enabled "lock BIOS settings" to prevent access BIOS on model T520i and T530i. But it's always possible to access on "read-only" to BIOS. How to prevent this access ?
