Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: Cannot Access Uefi Bios Anymore On E535
Sep 23, 2012
I recently bought a new E535 laptop working like a charm up to now. Bios access was possible by pressing Enter directly after switching machine one, than came some sort of POST analysis which could be skipped by pressing any key and than came some sort of table where I could access Bios by pressing some key (cannot remember which it was exactly). Alternatively I could enter Bios when in boot menu by pressing tab which switched to another tab where Bios could be entered (also some sort of diagnosis programs could be started). As mentioned in the subject it is impossible for me to do this now, after I did the following:
- exchanged built in HDD with an new SSD (Bios access yet possible)
- changed in Bios Setup boot mode from both (legacy + UEFI) to Uefi only (this might be the problematic point but I'm not sure)
- Installed Windows 7 in Uefi mode on ssd
No when I press enter on startup it brings me to Windows boot manager menu (you know where you can say start Windows normally or in safe mode and so). Boot menu also changed with a new "start windows" entry (well, this seems to be correct), but when switching to the other tab it is empty now, no entry for Bios setup or diagnosis tests anymore.
This is really bad. I have googled around and tried the following up to now without success:
- Pressing F1 instead of enter
- Shutdown laptop, and start with F1 pressed down
- starting without HDD
- starting unmodified HDD which was originally installed in laptop (which cannot be booted anymore, probably because it was installed in legacy mode)
I have also thought about flashing the bios, but the newest version available on lenovo support seems to be 1.04, but pre installed on my laptop is 1.10, so my version is a lot newer. Should I try to flash it nevertheless ?

I got a really annoying problem with my E330. It came without an OS, so I put Win 8 on the preinstalled HDD. Then I switched it out for a SSD and put Win 7 on it. (everything in UEFI mode)
Since then I can't get into the BIOS/UEFI anymore by either pressing Enter or F1. Pressing Enter still gives me a beep, but then Windows continues to load normally instead of showing several options like it used to do.
And yes I'm aware that I need a cold-boot in Win 8 to get into UEFI ... The only way to access UEFI at the moment is through the Win 8 charms-bar restart into UEFI trick.
I tried already to reflash the BIOS which doesnt work obviously since it's the same version, tried removing the CMOS battery, that gave me a one time opportunity to get into the UEFI with F1 when it complained about the date/time.
Switching to Legacy only leads me to an infinite PXE - something error loop, but I still cant get into the BIOS.
I tried pressing every combination of Fn+F-Keys and without Fn. Nothing works. I don't want to return the notebook, but it's a deal breaker for me if I can't get Win 7 running on it with accessible UEFI.

I must be missing something -- I'm trying to connect my E535's HDMI output to the HDMI input on my Panasonic Viera LCD TV. I've attached both ends of the cable to the corresponding ports and I get nothing. I select HDMI 1 or 2 on the TV, and still nothing.
I've also tried toggling the F6 display selector key, although I believe this is active only when using the VGA port, correct?
The Lenovo manual is pretty sketchy on the matter of DVI, so what I have to do in Control Panel or elsewhere to get the computer's display on the TV with HDMI?

I can't change my ram anymore. this is quite a silly problem.-, I am currently running on 6gb : 1 samsung 4gb @1600mhz(original stick) 1kingston 2gb@ 1333 mhz this works fine exept it gets really hot (80c) I have tried removing the slots one by one. but never managed to get into the BIOS once changed. also tried switching the sticks and just 2x2gb , even with just the original one it wont get into bios, sometimes i get beebs from the motherboard and sometimes I just get a black screen.
but it only boots into BIOS when I put them back where they were in the first place.
also tried removing the bios battery but that just resets the time -,-

I have what I think is a common problem with Edges: My E535, which I've had just over a week, will start up quietly. Then after about 3 minutes the fan will switch to high speed, even under light load (e.g.. only Firefox running, and limited scrolling or other activity). After a few minutes at steady high speed, it will begin cycling up and down, up and down, up and down..... This is getting to be moderately annoying. It does this whether the machine is plugged in or on battery. It also happens when I'm doing other things...OpenOffice spreadsheets or word documents, or even just letting the system sit idle.
I've attempted to change settings with Power Manager but for some reason, PM ends up crashing when I attempt to select a lower fan speed setting and a normal (level 10) brightness setting. Can the two problems be related? I'm presuming from similar posts for E530 and other Edges that this is BIOS related. Here is my info:
MS Windows 7 Home Premium, Version 6.1.7601 SP 1, Build 7601
Edge E535 Model 3260CTO
AMD A4-4300 M, Radeon HD
BIOS LENOVO HHET75WW (2.08), 10/24/12
SM BIOS 2.7

i just bought a Thinkpad e535.Every time I turn off the laptop (not hibernating, not sleeping) and unplug the power cable from the Ac Outlet the battery loses around 20% of charge every 24 hours,
What I've already done to troubleshoot:
-Disabled USB always on in BIOS
-Disabled Wake On Lan from Windows AND BIOS
-Running command powercfg /devicequery wake_armed to see if any device is programmed to power on the laptop
BIOS version is the latest one (2.08)
Power Manager software is 6.32

Playing DVDs on a Windows 7 equipped Thinkpad?
My E535 will play non-copy protected DVDs that I got from a training program years ago just fine. But although it will play some movies from my local library with no problem, there are certain releases that give me an error message on Windows Media Player that I need to update my drivers and DVD-RW settings or something to that effect, yet all drivers appear up to date and everything seems to be set correctly in Control Panel for the DVD-RW drive.
And occasionally I get a message that "Your computer is running low on memory. Close other programs to continue", or something similar. Huh?? Nothing else is running.
The weird part is that I can play these disks just fine in my 8 year old Dell desktop that's running XP and a much older version of WMP.
FYI, my machine is Windows 7 Home Premium with 4GB RAM, 320GB HD and the AMD A4300 and AMD graphics.

I have a several issues with rendering in Google Chrome.
1) When I write in address line, Chrome doesn't offer me suggestions for webs, but duplicates image of already opened website to the space below address line.
2) Second thing is the same as the first point, except instead of duplicated image, there are offered possibilities, but horribly zoomed in.
3) Duplicated image is also appeared instead of pop-ups in browser and also on the bottom of the page, in case I move a pointer on some url (I don't see url, but just duplicated browser)
I had this problem before, so I reinstalled Windows and here it is again. I have ThinkPad E535, Win7 x64. Only installed SW is ESET Smart security and Lenovo software.

I fresh installed Windows 7 and installed all the drivers from Lenovo's website. Still I cannot adjust the brightness. It stays on MAX and drains the battery in 1h30min. All other F hotkeys work but not F7 & F8 for brightness control. Is this a BIOS/Drivers issue?

New just turned on a few hours ago. Brightness control was working before fresh install. Did fresh install to get rid of bloatware.

I've recently reset my laptop to factory default using the Windows 8 Reset option, and now when I want to access the UEFI settings I get a onekey recovery prompt instead. Is there any way to bypass it because I just transfered my files back and I don't want to reset everything again.

I just bought a used Red E520-1143CTO in brand new condition, from someone who screwed up the OS (It had Windows 7 Home Prem 64). A lot of the drivers were missing and not working correctly. The restore partition is still there when I look in My Computer but when i reboot and press F11, I never get the option to access it. There was no Lenovo software installed to create a repair disk and of course, it didn't come with any software. Is there a way to access it?
I also have access to another E520 that is almost exactly the same (It just has the older i3 processor). I tried to create a repair disk from it and use it on this computer but it says the Windows versions are not compatible or the Repair software is not compatible with this version.
So I'm trying to figure out if there is an alternative way to access this restore partition. I've installed a company version of Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit on this machine and I've got most of the drivers installed and it appears to be working fine. But I have three that have yellow exclaimation points:
1) Base System Device
2) SM Bus Controller
3) Unknown Device
I've been downloaded drivers from this site, but I can't can't figure out which drivers I need to clear this list. So, how to get it restored to factory default. If not, I'd like to know what drivers I need to clear this list. I want it to look like brand new because I was going to give it to someone as a gift. I just don't see the on screen prompts for the wifi button (doens't work), volume, and brightness like the other machine. I'd like to get all that working.

It seems I got the same problem that customers have with the T530. After removing the bios password I have no chance to get into the BIOS.
Bios Version: 1.11 (uefi only enabled)
OS: Windows 8 (x64)
I tried:
- Remove all drives (mSATA SSD, ODD, HDD)
- Press F1 at the Lenovo screen
- Tried all options in the Windows boot menu
- Pressed the Enter key at the Lenovo screen
Unfortunately there don't exist a BIOS update for the W530. So how I get into the BIOS?

I have an ao725-0687 netbook with windows 8.1 (from the factory). I wish to access UEFI (Bios). The method at [URL] {Accessing the UEFI (BIOS) setup on a Windows 8 / 8.1 system} does not work on my machine. My machine does NOT show the "UEFI Firmware Settings" button on the relevant page (but it DOES show the other 5 buttons shown in the video to be on that page). How can I access UEFI on this machine?

After the upgrade to the current UEFI firmware, when I try to access to settings the BIOS ask me for a password. I'm absolutely sure I have not set any password (I hate BIOS passwords). Now I need to start from a USB pendrive and I can't change the startup sequence.
I've read the post about how Acer can support on lost or forgotten passwords("there are very few if no options available from the end user side"), but in this case I've not created any password, as I said

I bought a ThinkPad 540p that comes with preloaded Windows 8.1. As I want to dual boot the machine I tried to select the Legacy Boot option in the BIOS/Startup tab, but I can't do anything as the option UEFI/Legacy Book is greyed out and locked in "UEFI Only". Below it there is an option called: -CSM Support that is also greyed out and selected as [No]. (below these options there is a little note with an asterisk saying "Unselectable for Secure Boot").
How can I enable the UEFI/Legacy Boot option again in order to dual boot the computer? I want to be able to boot from USB or from the CD Drive.

Yesterday I flashed the firmware of my XPS L702X to version A19, which enabled UEFI boot mode. I decided to go ahead and try to install Windows 7 in UEFI mode on a GPT disk. Installation succeeded, booting failed however. Then I read a message on the web from someone who succesfully installed Windows 8 on the same machine in UEFI boot mode on a GPT disk. So I decided to try Windows 8 instead. Installation failed. Using the recovery menu from the Windows 8 installation media, I wanted to try and see how far installation had come and more or less accidentally selected in some "Advanced options" menu to reboot to my USB flash drive (where the Windows 8 files were on). Rebooted fine. Then I shutdown, using the regular option.
When I turned on my machine again, I found out that pressing either F2 or F12, for the firmware setup and the boot menu, respectively, didn't work anymore. The firmware recognised my input, as the text in the lower right of the Dell splash screen became lighter, but instead of entering setup or the boot menu went straight ahead to boot my existing and working Windows 7 installation on my first (MBR) hard drive instead.
So, in short, I am locked out of setup and the boot menu. I have already tried reflashing the firmware, but without any luck. What to do now?

I have searched the issue and all I can see is I have to flash the bios. I am not comfortable doing that because I have done this before on my Alienware and it took me three days to restart the computer. Everything was messed up.
All I want to be able to do is charge USB devices when the computer is in sleep mode. I have set Windows 8 power mode up, but it appears the BIOS is still preventing this from happening. So I need to access the BIOS.When the computer restarts no message appears to say *'hit F2 to enter BIOS'.So I have tried, Fn + F2, Fn + F1, F1, F2 and none enter the bios on start up. How do I enter bios on this Z50?

I purchased a new Flex 2-15 online the past week. The model name shown on the back is "20405". Manufacture date is May 12, 2014. The User Guide refers to a "Novo Button", which is shown in diagrams as being on both the left edge and the right edge near the front. Neither location has a button of any sort. The right edge has a pinhole in the supposed button location. A curved arrow icon is next to the pinhole. I have an inkling this may be some sort of factory reset button. Lacking the Novo button, what is the procedure for accessing the features which the manual says are accessed by pressing this non-existent button?. That is, BIOS, and/or the one touch image backup/restore system?

I was trying to access my BIOS recently, but whenever I attempt to do so, all I get is a constant beep sound. I used to be able to access the BIOS just fine, but now I can't. The computer itself still boots fine, though I also can't select any boot options either.
I thought I could fix this by resetting the BIOS, but there doesn't appear to be any way of doing that. The CMOS battery is nowhere to be found, and there is no BIOS update for the Y510p that I can apply.
I can get back into the BIOS?

I have a T400 2765-P3U model, and it won't boot up. When you turn it on, you see the Thinkvantage logo and it stays there. Trying to access the BIOS is non-responsive. I connected the hard drive to see if it was a hard drive issue, but it's not. The hard drive is response when connected via USB. I can't get past the Thinkvantage logo, no response when attempting to access the BIOS. It's still under warranty, so I'll probably send it in for repair but thought I'd give it a try fixing it before hand.

I bought a u310 slightly used but had a failing HDD. The person who was using it installed an operating system on the SSD and now I can't seem to access the bios at all. I had read that this may happen if Rapid Start is not disabled before formatting the SSD.
What do I need to do to be able to access the bios again? There is no bios files listed as a download for this computer so I can't even seem to be able to flash the bios.
I already sent it to lenovo to replace the HDD and instead they tried to charge me $167 to image the machine, which I said no to and they sent the computer back without fixing it.

I just bought an Edge 130 and wanted to set it up today. But I just can't enter the BIOS! I keep pressing F1 during the Lenovo splash screen. I've pressed it repeatedly, held it down, I even tried it with the Fn button pressed. Nothing worked.
I've have been working with and professionally supporting Lenovo (and before IBM) notebooks for over 10 years and not once did I have such a problem. This is only the second E-series notebook I have ever had. I bought myself an E525 last summer and had no such problems and at work we have T-, X- and W-series.

My R400 laptop (7447-W14) suddenly freezes on boot: it displays the early logo ("thinkpad, to interrupt normal startup, press the blue Thinkvantage button"), and waits forever, neither the bios menu nor the operating system (windows and ubuntu in dual boot) appears.
I can shutdown by holding the power button more than 5s, but on reboot, the same freeze come back, whatever I do:
- holding the F1 key before and after powering on
- holding the "ThinkVantage" button
- doing this on battery, or with power supply (with or without battery)
- trying to boot on an external USB HD drive
It does not seem to be a CPU problem (nothing would be displayed), nor RAM or harddisk one (it is cheked later, at BIOS time).
In fact, I was wondering wether removing and putting back the small battery of the mainboard would solve this problem ... but this battery seems not to be eaysyly found. At least, it is not under the keyboard, where the RAM is.
of course, warranty has ended ... any way, before I throw this laptop to trash ?

I have a problem with my Lenovo G500s 1.1 years (1 year & 1 month). It worked perfectly until last month. It started to freeze. I restarted the computer (btw I was using licenced win8 back then) and then the lenovo logo showed up and it stuck there. I was waiting for about 10 minutes, but nothing happened. I turned it off manually, and then turned it on,it was still frozen. after some trial of startup, it worked normally. After 2 days it happened again. I thought it was the system, so I deleted the windows8 and installed windows8.1 licensed, it worked for a month and then again (last night) it just freezes at startup (lenovo logo shows up). Till now its frozen. I restarted it several times, it didnt work. I also pulled out battery & started on AC power which didnt work too. Obviously, i dont have warranty.

I just installed two new memory modules (4 GB each) but my laptop only recognizes one of them. I've tried researching how to change the RAM voltage in BIOS to see if that will allow the laptop to recognize both memory modules but can't find out how to do so.
How to change the RAM voltage in BIOS (specifically from 1.5V to 1.6V).
