How does one reach the bios on a 2014 X1 Carbon? I've tried pressing F1 on the adaptive keyboard strip during boot, to no avail. Before the logo, during the logo, etc.

View 9 Replies View RelatedFingerprint reader was working perfectly fine but I couldn't get it to work with my domain account. After trying some troubleshooting, there was a suggestion to delete the drivers and reinstall it. So I go into device manager and uninstall the fingerprint reader drivers. The problem is now I can't find the fingerprint reader driver! It's not in the lenovo driver page.. I tried Windows drivers update and everything else but still not working. Where do I download the fingerprint drivers?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a X1 Carbon 3443CTO and it's running fine.Last night everything was ok and I went into the BIOS and changed AHCI to compatibility (don't ask me why, I was doing some testing), then I went "Exit and Save Changes" (at the last page of BIOS). As soon as I press Enter the screen freezed there (as opposed to reboot)Since it hangs there I hold the power button and it shutdown.Then I power it up again, but now, here is the problem:
1) The computer turns ON, keyboard backlight flash on for a second (normal)
2) Screen stays blank (no, it's not the backlight faulty)
3) power light turns ON (normal)
4) no sign of activities pressing any buttons, no beep sound
What build in program in New X1 carbon is for optimizing (Maintainance) SSD? I believe the "defragment tool" provided in control panel is no use for optimizing the SSD?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy X1 is about 18 months old. It was fine until today. The battery was low, so I plugged it in. The little blue light where the power connects illuminated, however the battery indicater in Windows did not change to show "charging", and the battery continued to drain.
Over the next hour or so I tried many things like shutting down, waiting, new A/C outlet, new power settings, etc. Tried the little reset hole on the bottom of the laptop. Nothing mattered... the little blue light is on, but the battery just drains.
Eventually, the battery drained and the X1 shut down. When I try to boot, I get a pre-boot message about a critical low power error, even plugged in, so my laptop is now a brick.This is a 3448-34U Thinkpad Carbon X1.
I have an AC adapter left over from my first generation X1 Carbon. It is 90W/20V. The adapter that came with the new machine is quite a bit smaller, and only 65W/20V. Can I use the 90 watt adapter with the new model X1, or will it damage it somehow? Dont want to ruin my brand new computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy R400 laptop (7447-W14) suddenly freezes on boot: it displays the early logo ("thinkpad, to interrupt normal startup, press the blue Thinkvantage button"), and waits forever, neither the bios menu nor the operating system (windows and ubuntu in dual boot) appears.
I can shutdown by holding the power button more than 5s, but on reboot, the same freeze come back, whatever I do:
- holding the F1 key before and after powering on
- holding the "ThinkVantage" button
- doing this on battery, or with power supply (with or without battery)
- trying to boot on an external USB HD drive
It does not seem to be a CPU problem (nothing would be displayed), nor RAM or harddisk one (it is cheked later, at BIOS time).
In fact, I was wondering wether removing and putting back the small battery of the mainboard would solve this problem ... but this battery seems not to be eaysyly found. At least, it is not under the keyboard, where the RAM is.
of course, warranty has ended ... any way, before I throw this laptop to trash ?
I have newly bought a x1 carbon with 8g memory and i7 4660u, system win7 4 bites, the model is 20A7 CTO1WW, I didn't choose the high resolution screen because I think it is not neccessary.
But the usable momery is only 3.08gb, i am very confused and don't know what is the problem. Is it because the mainboard doesn't support 8g memory?

I currently have an issue with my original X1 Carbon (2012, 3443-CTU) light not working on the LCD. I attached an external monitor to the laptop and it works without issues so it's not the motherboard. Under the right lighting conditions and angle, i can see very very faintly my desktop background.
This leads me to believe that the screen inverter is damaged, or the lcd. Since my ultrabook isn't under warranty, i believe the best course of action is to find the screen on ebay and replace it. [URL] ....
Is replacing the LCD as easy as it sounds? It looks like i need to remove much of the parts underneath the keyboard panel, and remove the LCD bezel and replace the screen. Is there something i'm missing?
Just got my new x1 carbon, and I like it alot, trackpad isn't as bad as everyone is complaining about. However one big issue is that I want to keep the Function row on by default, and only switch to the default one with volume controls if I press the FN button to do so. Right now no matter even if I chose not to show the default keys, with volume and cloud and all that, it still comes back anytime I switch to a different app.

It was advertised as X1 charger, but when it arrived I thought it's too small in size, so I googled it. Having done that, I've realised it's actually being sold by Lenovo as a charger for Yoga.
Am I safe to use this charger for my ThinkPad X1 Carbon (3460-CLG)?
Bought a unit with this problem: As soon as I unplug the AC Cord from the laptop, it power off without notice and can't power up the laptop. It seems like the battery is not giving power .When I plug back in the AC, I can press the power button.
One strange thing is that the battery is 100%, state : good. Tried the reset battery so now 3 cycle counts. The thing is that if I unplug the AC cord only from the power outlet to the ac adaptor then the power is still up, the brightness goes down a bit and then power off without notice.
Tried:
- the battery pack switch
- removed battery backup
- removed and reset the battery pack
I'm out of options and I would be glad if I can find what cause that "unswitchable thing".
When I plug in the AC adapter, my x1 shuts off right away. I have to reset the time in the bios to get it to work again. This happened right after I changed the keyboard. Now, it seems to be permanent issue. I thought it was an adapter issue but I have two adapters and both work fine.

My battery never exceeds 50% even when plugged in for extended periods. Also, I am not seeing any of the "Rapid Charge" that was promoted.

The little research I did I did see someone mentioned it could be the fingerprint scanner. Tried that and it did not work. Also Ran system update and that did not work....

I am trying to install windows 8 from the 3 disks that came with the X1 Carbon. There is no DVD drive and we have no external disk drive, so I need to create a bootable USB for this. The laptop came with windows 7 on it.
It is easy to use DISKPART to ready the USB as a bootable device, but how to I take the data from the 3 DVDs and put it onto the USB so that it works? The first one only has drivers but the OS install is split onto two disks. I referred to a KB article but it was talking about autorun files that are not present on these DVDs.
The DVDs I have are labeled as
(1) Applications and Drivers Recovery Disk,
(2) OS Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro [Disk 1 of 2], and (2) OS Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro [Disk 2 of 2].
where is the printscreen button on the X1 carbon ? Where is the insert botton ?
The keyboard of the X1 Carbon is non standard compliant. The person who took keyboard classes and efficient at typing becomes inhibited with these changes The End botton is close to the A key which is usually the spot for the Caps Lock
My ThinkPad X1 Carbon keep dropping the WiFi randomly. I have another computer, HP. This kind of situation never occur to my HP. So I am sure this problem does not relate to my router.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Lenovo X1 carbon, the weird thing is that the computer functions correctly when the power cord is plugged but when the power cord is unplugged the computer DOES NOT turn off no matter what you do. It restarts all the time. If you plug the power cord you can turn off your computer, but when you unplug it it starts working immediately?
In any case pushed the reset button on the back of the laptop but it didn't worked.
My X1 Carbon started running super slow since last week. The disk C: shows I still have 49.2 GB free space to use. So I think the problem does not relate to the space size. I am wondering if there is any way to clear something in my computer and make it run as fast as before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently received X240 and new X1 Carbon (Gen2) laptops with the 256GB eDrive and am working to set up Bitlocker using Windows 8.1.
On the X240, I followed the steps in another posting here and successfully got hardware AES working (by manually installing chipset on newly installed OS, then installed everything except RST and Bitlocker worked with the eDrive).
Following the same process on the new X1 Carbon, however, I only am able to use software encryption and can't figure out what to do to use the eDrive feature.
Is there a process to follow on the new X1 Carbon Gen 2?
if Power Manager is available for New X1 Carbon (Window 8.1, 64bits)? So far not available, right?

My product code is 20A70037US, I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro.
I've chosen (in power options) that laptop does nothing when lid is closed. Yes, it works but... I'm using TeamViewer to connect to laptop; it works but TeamViewer periodically loses connection and displays message "The screen can't be captured at this moment..", Microsoft installer (I'm installing Visual Studio 2013) is paused (!), and Google Chrome won't render pages (but Internet Explorer works fine).
If I open the lid, all symptoms described above are disappear: installer resumes downloading, Chrome render html pages correctly and TeamViewer works fine (no periodical messages shown).
For me it looks like laptop not in "normal" operational state but kinda under power saving.
I've set power option to "High performance" (laptop is plugged) but it doesn't work.
On my new X1 Carbon, with a new Netgear R8000 router, The X1 will not hold a wifi connection, even 3 feet from the router. There is plenty of signal strength on all 3 channels. It connects for a while, but then the icon turns to "limited", and I have no internet connection. It works with my older Netgear WNDR 4500. Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector sees the three channels with plenty of signal, but will not plot them. I even tried reducing the maximum rate to 289 Mbps, and it still will not maintain a 5 GHz connection.

I did a fresh install from scratch to only install what I need.During my setup, I had to disable Secure boot, to boot on a USB Key, install 8.1 Enterprise. Now that everything is working, I would like to re-enable the secure boot option.
If I don't it directly in the BIOS, the laptop doesn't book any more.Do I have to import key from my 8.1 Ent to the Bios or something like this?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a new X1 Carbon (20A7) a week ago and from time to time the laptop gets stuck on the ThinkPad splash screen when booting. I have to hold the power button to turn it off and then it boots fine. My brother has this problem with T540p, although this happens to him a LOT more often (also, if he waits patiently for 10-20 minutes, the system boots eventually, I havent tried that on my X1).
It doesn't matter if the AC is connected, whether there is something connected to USB ports, whether it was a restart or just normal boot, there is no pattern that I can see, this seems random. We tried updating the BIOS to the newest version, our USB ports are not bent or anything, the SSD with the OS is set as the first boot device. This still happens. I see there are more people with thinkpads who have the similar problem, but their solutions do not apply (if there were any).
