So this is the only thing that I cannot decide, is the 16" rgbled worth the extra 250£? Is the wled 15.6" full hd and is it good enough?
My second question is this, i am from croatia but this september i am enrolling in university in UK (16th sept.), and I saw that the 220£ discount is ending on the 26th of august,
is it possible to delay the delivery or to specify the date you would like the delivery to be made?
I'm looking at getting a SXPS(still trying to decide between the 16 and 13) and just wanted to get your opinions on whether or not you think the solid state drives are worth the extra money.
I'm deciding between the HP 8730w or the Dell M6400, and was wondering how solid the laptop feels, and if the early software quirks (like the sound breakage) have been resolved?
I had a studio xps16 but it was broken, so they sent me a replacement system.
but now, the replacement system is also broken. the replacement is brand new (they gave brand new as old laptop was 1 day old).
now, they have taken the old laptop back. but the new laptop is new and so i had a new invoice, trackin no. and etc. Although the invoice charged me £0.00 as obviously, its a replacement...
My old Inspiron 8600 has a spare battery that fits into the optical drive bay. It's really a nice feature and lets me get over four hours battery life out of this dusty old laptop. Does the M6400 have a similar feature? I was wondering if there was a way to get some extra battery life out of it.
I'm a photographer, and bought an XPS 15 9630 to do my photo editing. The machine came with the 30Gb mSATA and 1Tb HDD, which wasn't nearly enough for my needs. I've successfully fitted a Samsung 1Tb mSATA, but I would like to upgrade the other drive also. At the moment I have 2 1Tb hard disks, and 2Tb total storage. (After a fair bit of fiddling in BIOS)
I have a Seagate Spinpoint M9T 2Tb disk which I would like to use,but when I fit it, it didn't show up in the BIOS or O/S. It works fine in other laptops. The disk that came with the laptop is 6mm, this one is 9mm, but seems to fit fine. The disk shows up if I remove the mSATA.Is this a problem that can be overcome?
I have a working Inspiron 4100 and a maybe working 1200. I wanted to pull the hard drive from the 4100 to test the 1200 which may have a dead hard drive.
I found that it wouldn't fit. The drive from the 4100 has a set of three extra pins making it different than the 1200 hard drive. Is this normal? Why the extra pins for the 4100?
Possibly off topic, but it is related to a Dell Precision (workstation..)
A message that you don't want to see on your main file server..."TERMINAL DISK FAILURE"... Happily, I just pull the borked disk out and stick in a spare (of the wrong capacity, but hey...) whilst awaiting the arrival of a replacement...and all is well
basically I am thinking of connecting an extra monitor (19', 20' 22' ?) to my Dell Inspiron 1300 which has Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900... how do I go about this?
My family have bought me the Precision M6500, a little more than I need, but a great machine. Is it possible to find literature on the extra items on the keyboard ,
such as the track stick, track stick buttons, jog shuttle and the precision ON button, the idea behind them and there use
I have a TT11 with 2GB RAM and i am looking to increase this to 4GB RAM as soon as i find a store in the UK which sells it.
I just wanted to know how much of a difference the extra RAM will make on the TT? I know it will proberbly depend on a number of factors, but i was just after a rough idea.
can i use any of the following RAM for the TT? [url]
I managed to write a fix for the ACPI bug which was preventing proper power management if you add one more 2.5" SSD/HDD to the Quad SSD VPC-Z11.
Basically, it is a windows driver which loads very early (immediately after NT kernel and HAL) and dynamically patches the ACPI tables with the proper ones (which I dumped from the "bug-free" system state)
NOTE - the patch is for the very experienced users, so PLEASE read the readme.rtf VERY CAREFULLY and please think carefully whether you want to proceed further.
Naturally - It goes without saying that this is a potentially dangerous process, and that usage of any info from the attached vaiopatch.zip file is at your own risk No, seriously, this can make your computer unbootable so please check the readme and do consider if you can perform the repair steps before trying to do anything! System backup is a must.
I believe I documented the process well, so that people with moderately advanced system knowledge can use this patch. There is a pre-compiled driver available in the /example directory, but that driver is valid for systems which have EXACTLY the same configuration as mine (all described in Readme)
If you have a different system (e.g. ACPI tables at different locations, different CPU from i7-620M, etc..), you will need to extract good ACPI data and re-build the driver by yourself. This process will require Windows DDK and some C/C++ programming knowledge. I cannot provide too much support there unfortunately, outside from I already wrote in readme.
I know I can add 1G more RAM to my HP dv6000 laptop which Currently has 1 gig RAM to give a total of 2 G. But since I upgraded the operating system from Vista to Windows 7 with SP1 64 bit , 1.6 ghz, can I add even more to achieve a total of 3 G or 4 G?  It looks like the limiting factor is the 1.6 ghz speed.
Acer V3-111P laptop and when using the keyboard on the laptop, typing a certain letter that letter will add an extra character. Example, typing letter e, it will add ex, letter q will become q1, letter c will become hc. Not all letter will do that but there are a few.I've reformatted the laptop already and updated the BIOS as well. Also deleted the keyboard driver and re-install after to no avail. Still the same thing to those letters.
I recieved my studio 16 2 days back and so far its been treating me well. I got the deal in Canada for a whopping 1350 .
It has the standard features that are found on most dell studio xps 16's here on the forum. I wanted to get some advice from you guys. You see I went with the native WLED 1366X768p screen and I am not too happy with it. When I was customizing the system I didn't see a point in spending 300 additional bucks on the higher end screen. However now I am thinking of getting the 1090p resolution LCD. How has the experience been for people that have the RBGLED? Is there a way to get it at a lower price? and is there a way to get higher display resolution on this current screen? perhaps through a different GPU? I am just considering my options here since I really do like this laptop everything is fine. I guess I'm just looking for a more crisp resolution and the price is too high
What is/are the part number(s) for the 16" 1080p RGBLED screen? My Dell order keeps getting some 1080p 15.6" WLED screen ... I'd like to use the part # and get the manager to fix it quickly. Also what is the part # for Bluetooth?
Does anyone know if the Dell XPS 16 will be getting its RGBLED screen back? I find it kind of strange that they took it out after they introduced the ATI 5730.
RGBLED vs WLED, both 1920x1080. I already ordered my sxps16 on 8-4-09, I went with the WLED, I bought it when it was 25% off select laptops, couldn't pick RGBLED at that time.
I have been racking my brain about this, tried to cancel but it was to late. Should be here soon, ten days since order and still not shipped. I HATE WAITING! They told me after I recieved the laptop I could return it.
I just orderet an Dell XPS 16 with a WLED 1080P screen and i should have it on the 25. of August.
Then yesterday i went to dell's side and now they offer the same laptop at same price but with the RGBLED screen instead.
It seems its a new RGBLED screen as its not 16" but 15,6" as the WLED screen. I dunno what to do. Would you guys return the laptop and order a new one with the RGBLED instead?
I just opened up my HP Pavilion Touchsmart 15 Sleekbook and I want to connect a 2nd monitor to stretch my desktop. I have a Dell monitor that I've been using for a year or so with a VGA connection. On my new Touchsmart there is no standard vga port. Â In what ways can I connect it?
When I go on the Dell website (both Canadian and American, although I am in Canada) and I customize one of these laptops with the rgbLED display, as soon as I switch the system colour to any other colour than the default black the rgbLED switches to a WLED, but the cost stays the same.
Is this a glitch, when it says WLED does it actually mean rgbLED? (or else why does it still cost the same) I was curious because I was definitely getting interested in the rgbLED, but I would much rather have the laptop in white.
I'm looking for a glossy, bright, rich color screen that has really, really deep blacks. There were some comments in the RGBLED settings thread that the blacks don't get very black on this screen. Is that true?
Would a white LED screen have better blacks? I don't care about photo work, I just want the best looking screen for games and movies.
