Dell Precision M6500 :: Smart Card Reader Is Not Responding
Nov 30, 2014Reinstalled Windows 7 on Precision M6500. Smart Card Reader does not respond. My SDHC card is recognized on my other Dell Laptop. What can I do to fix this?

It was in there when Dell sent the M1710 to replace my Gen2 but I cant seem to find any use for it..
Apparently you can use it instead of a password but the cards dont seem easily available..

Jul 16, 2007Cant seem to get XP device manager to recognise this item says driver cant load or not present, tried dell suppport but all there is for it is some kinda security driver that dosnt do anything AFAICS tried just about reinstalling every bit of S**t dell offered on the drivers support page in the vain attempt to find which if any driver it needed.
Now i wonder if my its broken but as i have no idea what it is AFAIK i have 1 card reader and thats already installed the billion options it has that i will never use though SD card readers useful sometimes :
( this copy of XP i installed started with 16 Processes compared to dells 60 or so )

Dec 23, 2009How do you order i7 920 processors ? It doesn't give me such option on the website (all it shows in processor option is "Mobile Precision M6500 Silver Base")
so I called dell sales team to find out which processor is there, and on the website it shows "Up to Intel® CoreTM i7- 920XM Quad Core Extreme processors" so i thought it might be as the only option and goes as standard),
they told me that m6500 is only available with i7 820 (1.73hz) and the machine is upgradable to i7 920. heh ? seems like scam
Meantime I can't choose 2 HDD with 500GB, as primary only ATA and secondary is only SATA.

Oct 8, 2011The problem Im currently having with my laptop is that every time i turn it on, it last about 4 seconds before it shuts down. I can only see the power and battery light on before shutting down. I dont even see the screen turning on. I try going to diagnostic mode and the only thing that changes is that my keyboard lights go on, but then after 4 seconds laptop shuts down. What to do or what might be causing this??

USB 3.0 blue jacks on back of dock do not work as 3.0, work as 2.x.

Nov 30, 2009This has been brought up before in this forum, but it was as an off-topic discussion on a thread with a different topic. I'd like to bring it to full discussion.
Basically, I'm quite happy with my E6400 but I don't use the fingerprint reader, because that involves using the Embassy Trust Suite.
This means that you cannot use the fingerprint reader for any other uses except logging on at boot and windows logon screen. You cannot use it for your web browser, for example.
Several people have asked Dell to invest in an open API for the fingerprint reader because of this. Dell suggested we opened a thread in their community feedback site, "Dell IdeaStorm", which I did. Here's the link.

I have to push and hold the card all the way down to the bottom of its travel for the computer to recognize it. This means I have to keep my hand on it to use it.
