Has anyone ever used the smart card reader in their XPS M1710.
It was in there when Dell sent the M1710 to replace my Gen2 but I cant seem to find any use for it..
Apparently you can use it instead of a password but the cards dont seem easily available..
I performed a windows 7 clean install on my vaio (VPCEB11FX).
After that i installed the drivers properly. In Device manager i am able to see the MMC card reader and SD reader with respective path letters.
But in when i open my computer only dvd drive showing there
I have a brand new M4400, running W7pro x64. The M4400 came with an internal SD card reader. Now this card reader cannot read some standard SD cards (other work fine). Especially,
I have a Transcend SD 4GB 133x (http://www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com/i...ard-detail.jpg) that is problematic.
When I put the card in the reader, W7 tells me to format the card. This I do not want to do, of course. If I open Disk Management, it takes ages to open, and eventually shows the card as "Unallocated".
I've been having problems with my video card. (M1710 with a 7950GTX card). The card was overheating and even after applying AS5 and cleaning the vents it was reaching around 100c in games. After about a year, i started to also get memory parity errors...
Long story short, i contacted dell and they mailed me a new mb and a new video card.
I just got it now, and i am going to open the rig and replace the video card.. I am just not sure about the mother board, should i replace it as well ?
The parts that dell sent are refurbished parts, and as i know that my m.board is working i am not sure whether i should replace it or not.
I bought a new 8935G and found that the card reader cannot read my 2GB H-Type xD card.
FDXGDFSGDFS
The camera I'm using it in does not show any problem.
GDFSGDFSG
I tried reinstalling reader driver.

I teste the reader with an old 16Mb xD card and this works.

When I put the 2GB card in, Windows Vista says it has to be formatted; at this point the card is already unreadable in the camera and must be formatted againg there.
If I try to format on pc, the process stops at about 90% with an error.

I need a bit help, Ive a M1710 and the gfx has died usual for these, not warranted,
I don't care about gaming just need it to work windows,
so can I use an ATi card like x300 or x1400 as these are cheap and will be more reliable than nVidia cards, any ideas what will fit?
I put in my SDHC card from my camera and it does not read or see the card.
I have Vista Premium 32bit.
Is there are weird firmware I have to get?
I am just thinking is SD Controler in E6400 is SDHC capable?

a) Possible?
b) Worth it?
c) What are the options in terms of new ones.
Im thinking of ugrading the m1710 3945abg to n card.
Ive read some statements saying that the intel 5300 doesnt work on the chipset.
Some old posts mentioned Intel 4965 AGN working, is this the card to go for.
Here are some snapshots of a freshly loaded XPS M1710 having some kind of Video issue. Nothing is overclocked and using Dell Drivers for Video etc.. Problem happened when playing WOW and in C&C:3.
Bad Video Card?
Temps are fine with CPU and GPU.
I have an xps m1330, I have windows XP media center installed on it, the media card reader works fine for my 2gb sd card,
but when i stick in my 8gb sdhc pny i just bought from best buy, the laptop doesn't recognize it,
i've downloaded the latest ricoh driver from xps m1730 windows xp on dell's site but no success
I was going to repair my Inspiron 8600 but now I have a chance to get my hands on an XPS M1710 with what is believed to be the same fried video card everyone is experiencing with it...what would my options be for repairing this computer if it is simply the video card needing to be replaced?
I can find the stock replacements through Dell and eBay, but I'm curious if there are other alternatives out there?
if the hard drive from my Inspiron 8600 would be compatible?
I've joined the legion of M1710 users that have had their video card crap out on them. Typical green lines and bars results in chat to XPS support to have 7900GS replaced. That lasted ~ 2 weeks. Dust cleaned out every month, on a cooler pad, etc. Screen goes black suddenly (not screen saver) and a reboot leads to green lines again. Another chat/phone call to Dell results in replacement motherboard AND 7950 GTX. Nice upgrade. So, how long should I expect this card to last? I've had no other issues and really do my best to keep everything clean and cool. And when this card goes (they all seem too?).... I should mention that I received the M1710 as a replacement for a E1705 that overheated, had parts replaced, and then needed to go to the depot to be "fixed," only to return un-repaired and with the wires to the wireless antenna cut inside the case.
View 13 Replies View Relatedafter long 2 years of using this laptop, my video card fan died. How do i know this? Well, after turning on the laptop today, i got all these artifacts and my left side fan isnt running which supposedly run when you turn on.
Now my question is, where can i find a video card fan for this specific model to replace it?
I have all sorts of data on this laptop and i dont want to die on me just like that. any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

Will I ever be able to put an 8 series video card into my M1710? A decent one, not a crappy 8400 or something.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was playing GRID on my Dell XPS M1710, and got a load of corruption and lines on the screen, and the laptop shut went into a kind of safe mode. It has never been overclocked, and dust has been cleaned recently.
Now, when I turn it on, I get artifacts and corruption even at the BIOS screen. I've tried reseating and reinstalling the drivers, but it hasn't worked. I'm going to call dell tomorrow, but as it's out of warranty,
I don't expect much help. There's no way I'm buying a new GPU, (they cost more than the laptop is worth), so I'm going to try and fix it. I'm going to use the oven fix as a last resort,
and would appreciate advice on anything else I can do to fix it, as well as any tips when performing the oven trick. If anyone is selling a 7900GTX/7950GTX for a decent price, you may have a buyer
is it possible to disable the smart card reader in the BIOS or some other way?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy SD card reader isn't working very well. When I push a card in and let it click into place, coming back out a little, my laptop doesn't recognize it.
I have to push and hold the card all the way down to the bottom of its travel for the computer to recognize it. This means I have to keep my hand on it to use it.
I just do a fresh install windows XP. Everything has been installed properly (no exclamation mark) in device driver. However, 1 thing that hasn't worked is the SD card reader. I inserted SD Card and nothing shows up. I open My Computer, the only available is my hard disk (C and cd-rom (D.
I opened device manager: IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers:
Ricoh SD/MMC host controller.
speed of the Dell Latitude E4300 Card Reader? I mean the transfer rate of the SD Card Reader.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden the SD Card Reader on E5430 laptop doesn't work  When I insert SD card nothing happens. Before, a window would pop up, or I could see the SD card in my computer.
No nothing happens and it doesn't show up under my computer.
Also, under device manager -> storage controllers, not there any more.
I believe it's a O2 Micro OZ600xxx card reader.  I tried installing driver, but still doesn't see SD Card when inserted.
If the SD Card reader is just dead? Or do I have a driver issue. Windows 7 Professional 64bit
i don't know how to setup the card reader, I've Inspiron 15R N5110.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently restored my vaio TX750P/B using the built-in vaio recovery. However, my SD card slot doesn't seem to work anymore. The memory stick slot does work, and it shows up on my computer, but nothing for the SD slot.
I've tried reinstalling the drivers to no avail...
Does anyone know how to enable the gma 950 graphics card Dell XPS M1710? The one with is fried and I have no money to buy another.
Furthermore, again probably fried. Perhaps with the bios E1705 work.
They gave me a 7900GS instead of a 7950 GTX. I know some of you have had the same problem.
Everything else is fine, I could care less. But, I really feel that I should have gotten the GTX instead. Two Questions:
1) How minimal is the downgrade from 256mb 7800 GTX in my old M170 to a 256mb 7900GS? How big is the difference in the 7900GS vs the 7950GTX?
2) For those of you who have gotten this problem, how did you go about getting the card switched? Did they send a new system? I'd rather they just send the card and I'll swap it out myself.
The replacement was approved on the 8th, and I just got it today. Apparantly it's a new build, not a refurb. But I want the video card that's not a downgrade.
My SD card reader seems "dead" on my E6400 running Win7 32bit.
I've tried installing various Ricoh drivers, including the Ricoh R5C847 for Win vista/xp 32 bit. I can't find a driver for Win7 32 bit, at least not on the Dell driver-support pages .....
Reinstalled Windows 7 on Precision M6500. Smart Card Reader does not respond. My SDHC card is recognized on my other Dell Laptop. What can I do to fix this?
