I have a 2 year old Inspirion 1545. The battery and adapter simultaneously died on me, so I bought new ones and can't for the life of me get the adapter to behave. One day,it will work,then the next day,nothing. I keep getting an error code saying that I need a65w adapter ,which the new one is. I have updated the BIOS and have done all of the other troubleshooting that I can find.
View 7 RepliesI've had a Dell computer for about 7 years and had no problem with it so when I needed a laptop, I obviously went for Dell. I bought an Inspiron 1545 3 years ago and it was fine for the first 2 years and then the nightmare started. Just out of the blue, it starting showing a message "plugged in not charging" and I could initially use it on AC Power but it failed to charge the battery no matter what I did. I called Dell to report the problem but since the warranty was over, they were not really going to support. They suggested me buying a new charger or battery and although I had tried someone else's Dell charger and battery and it made no difference, I felt like I had no other choice.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI lost wi-fi internet on my Inspiron 1545, running Vista (6 or so years old). The network adapter was showing up as not installed or not working. I tried returning to earlier restore point. No good. System restore no good. Finally I reinstalled the Vista OS from disk that came with the laptop. But still no network adapter showing in Device Manager. When I insert Resource CD, the WLAN mini-cards are showing up as installed on the system, but no sign of them listed in Device Manager.
So my question is: how do I install the network adapter, or get the system to recognize it if it's there? There is nothing on the resource CD called "network adapter" to install, and I don't see anything like that to download here on the Dell site. Any thoughts?
Oh, I ran the system diagnostics on the Resource CD. In addition to the battery needing replacing (which I already knew) I got the following:
Error code 4400:011A
Msg: SCSI-0-000_DISK_GENERIC_MULTI-CARD-Target not ready
My Inspiron is running on the ac adaptor. The battery icon contains the plug symbol which should mean that it is being charged, but the capacity is indicated as 4% - 'Plugged in not charging'. The battery is new, so presumably the last one was not at the end of its life!
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have a dell inspiron 1545 and my battery is not being detected. I tried uninstalling and re installing the ACPI drivers but it didn't work. This is really getting on my nerves I've bought two batteries trying to get this to work. Every computer I have ever bought from dell has given me problems. Suffice to say this problem is the straw that broke the camels back and I will never be buying another product from dell or conducting business with them in any form.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI had bought a new battery since my old one was dead. I charged it up and was using it for a couple days. After that, I got the "plugged in, not charging" message. I thought it was the battery, so I got a tested replacement battery. I still got the message, so I did that uninstall battery device manager solution, and didn't work. I also updated BIOS to A14, bought a new A/C adapter, and still no luck. The A/C adapters say "unknown" in BIOS though both A/C adapters are Dell. Here is a picture of the laptop jack. [URL] .....

I put back my original battery, not working (Before it was working with Mains on)
I removed the battery, pressed the power button for 10 seconds and then I put back and connected mains. Again the display flickers and everything goes blank after few seconds.
A few days ago, on my Inspiron 1545, my power adapter stopped working.
I started using an identical Dell adapter (exact same model PA-3E) to supply power to the laptop, power was working fine, but the battery would not charge. The battery is at 0%.
In BIOS the adapter is recognised as the correct 90W adapter but the battery is marked as "IDLE".
I have run Dell diagnostics and that says the battery is healthy, how can that be if it wont charge.
I've been using a Dell inspiron 1545 from about 3 years now and exactly after 2 years of my buy, the battery failed and it started showing me to replace the battery and always notified me about contacting dell for a new battery.
I didn't take this of much concern so i just ignored the message and kept on using my battery with my adapter plugged in. After 4-5 months of such usage, My battery completely failed and doesn't even offer me even a minute of backup, when i remove the power socket. Then i realized the importance of a new battery and then bought a new battery from Dell.
Its the same battery with the same specs and also the same family type. After i removed my defected battery, I replaced my new bought Dell battery and realized that my battery is working fine. its charging well but at some time, it says "Plugged in, But not charging" Which is rare for any new battery, which is bought brand new.
This is how it looks now after i remove the AC adapter plug and when i depend on the battery backup. it is providing me a backup, but I see a yellow exclamatory mark beside it. Which I think should not be present. it also says "Low battery" when there's already 99% of battery left!
I've also followed some online steps
1) updated by BIOS to the latest
2) Followed some other steps like uninstalling the battery ACI in the device manager and etc...
I'm using a PA-12 family adapter, which is also a replaced one.
Whenever i'm using the key board, I can't use my mousepad at the same time. For example: if i'm holding the space bar, my mouse jams and no matter what i'm doing to the mouse pad, I can't move the mouse for as long as I hold a button. This presents major problems for gaming etcetera. I am using A dell N5050.

My issue is, I need a new power adapter AND a new battery.
I really don't wanna fork over $130 for a new 6 cell battery, Especially because on the dell site the reviewers themselves had given it a bad review saying the battery usually dies in a year or less.
That and my Budget is about $100 for both battery and adapter.
I need to find a battery that works, and an adapter that will actually charge the battery and keep the notebook charged.
This is basically a question out for Dell Inspiron users that have had this same issue and have had to replace the battery or the charger. If you guys could tell me what has worked for you and what has not, that way I can at least narrow down my options on chargers and batteries.
Id like to find a charger with the same volts as the dell charger has If I can't find a non official charger that works, could you guys at least point me to a less expensive site where I could buy the dell power adapter.
I would much rather just buy a charger and battery outside dell though because their products are by no means high quality and are in fact well overpriced.
This 1200 was working several weeks ago, now it will not turn on even with AC adapter plugged in. Battery will not charge.
No green LED lit on laptop front. Unit will not boot with AC adapter attached and battery removed.
Checked AC adapter with multimeter and it appears working OK, get 19.5 volts dc output.
I have had this laptop for 2 years and after the first year I had to replace both battery and adapter.
The first generic adapter I got was fine until the cable split (my fault as I was wrapping the cord around the brick).
I got the second generic from the same place I got the first.
I bought the new one last month and since then I have sporadically received a message that the adapter wasn't OEM and that it wouldn't charge the battery.
It would get back to charging after a reboot or stand by.
Now I have tried everything but it won't get back to charging the battery.
I did a search here and found others with the same problem (different dell laptops) solving the issue by flashing the bios.
Can anybody point me to the correct file I should download for my laptop as well as explain what should be done to flash the bios
I have a dell inspiron m5030, which is out of warranty, and unfortunately it wont charge the battery, or boot from the ac adapter and since the battery is dead I can no longer turn on the laptop. I already sent this laptop back to dell 2 prior times when my warrenty was still active due to the 7 beeps and I think that the mother board is going bad for the 3rd time.

I re-inserted the battery and the AC adapter but it sill does not do anything. When I plug in the power adapter the lights on the front of the laptop light up.

I received an Inspiron 17r SE and have had absolutely no technical problems running it. The only thing that i don't understand is why my battery adapter whines whilst in sleep mode. This never occurs when the laptop is shut off or running but only when in sleep. The high pitched whine seems to oscillate with the blinking white light on the front of the laptop.

I have a working 90W dell adapter from my friend and i tried it to my laptop. It also gives the same error as above except my laptop identifies it as a 90w adapter and asks for a 130W adapter instead(When my adapter is plugged-in it doesn't even identify it as 130W as you can see from the image).
I have a xps 13 l322x that won't boot up. It shut down after battery died, it was plugged in to charge and it won't turn back on.
When power button is pressed the LED in front of the touch pad blinks once.
The F12 with the power key does the BIST and the colors show up.
The Fn key with power key does nothing.
I was using my inspiron 1545 the other night and it was charging the battery, then i heard a pop from the left hand side of the keyboard. At this point i noticed that the battery icon no longer had the plug icon on top showing it was charging. I then looked at my power adapter and noticed the blue light was not on on the brick.
Finding this I unplugged the brick and then plugged it back in..POP from the laptop again....and the blue light on the brick went off again. This happens everytime.
So I am guessing there is something wrong in the laptop and the brick turns off maybe activating its short circuit mode protect. Obviously, this means I can not charge the battery.
If i remove the battery and try to run it on mains adapter it POPs as soon as you plug it in and the laptop won;t boot as it has no power...
I have been having issues with my battery since a year after purchase. Battery replacement error pops up. The power adapter usually quits lighting up, then it would light up. Today the laptop went dead and the adapter will not light up at all! Is it battery or adapter or both?

I do carry it around quite a lot, but most of the time I work on AC power.
Few weeks ago I had to work on battery and to my surprise laptop went into hibernation in less than 5 minutes after power on. Filled back to 100% and tested -- battey indicator counted percents down to 0 literally inf front of my eyes.
Is there a way to determine battery status? Might be some cells that are damaged? Any Idea what might gone wrong?
Laptop has 2 year warranty, so it's still covered for few months, but I doubt that is also true for battery only.
consider me lucky I guess) Anyways, I was on it when it suddenly shut down unexpectedly. Straight up black screen, no lights on in the front, nothing. The power cord box light even went off.
After unplugging the cord and moving to another plug the green light came back on for the power supply box.

So I woke up today to do school work and my Inspiron 9400 just decided to break! I'm pretty sure it's the video card. Again. I have a Geforce GO 7800 in there, which is what it came with and by the severe artifacting on the DOS screen, I'm guessing it is indeed the video card. This happened to me under a year ago and I got a replacement, I was still under my Dell Care. The problem is now, I am not. Since I got this last replacement, I haven't even taxed the system much, I just use it for desktop stuff, web, etc. I don't think I've even gamed on it since I got the card replaced, so I was shocked today when it died again.
So being out of warranty and it probably being too late to renew it (It expired in Febuary.) I wanted to come here and see what my options are...if any. Money is tight with me and my wife right now so I might not even be able to fix it, but I still wanted to see what might be done about it. The computer Gods were kind enough to let me boot it up once more and get a few important files real quick but I should probably consider it out of commision for awhile.
I wanted to add although I am farily positive it is the video card, the laptop was doing a few odd things as well that I'm not sure are a product of the card going bad. When I boot it up, that white line that fills at the bottom when the BIOS is loading was filling extra slow, and it's never ever did that before. Also the one time it did boot into windows, the Wi-Fi Card didn't intialize. Can all that be a byproduct of the video card failing?

i just got my 1545 and i heard there's couple ways to charge the battery to keep it last longer, its 6 cell battery.
should i charge it everytime when i use it? or
should i wait til battery gets low than charge?
no slow-downs, BSOD's or anything - not even a fan running high and hot. All of a sudden, video blanks, no beeps, no ctl-alt-del, etc. Then no reboot post beeps and no BIOS. LED power light comes on, HD light flashes once, stays off , and battery charge light works until battery is charged. Holding PWR button down forces "off", and PWR on repeats single HD light on to off. Is this the motherboard? Also, pulled HDD - needed business info from it right away, so it reads on other computers, scanned for both viruses and errors, and is clean.
