My DVD drive will play DVD's and some older CD's but it will not play the two new CD's I just bought. It sounds like morse code when I put it in, but won't play at all.

I have a Repair Win 7 - 64-bit CD, made from the old hard drive -- do I use that to boot up the computer? Or do I use the old hard drive image that I have stored on an external hard drive?

Just now i've gotten two blue screen messages in quick succession. I ran diagnostics from the boot screen and the test shows the only error is with the Hard Drive. I was given this message

i am using an inspiron n5110. (western digital)
i am getting an hard disk error code while running diagnostics: 2000-0151 validation: 18339 incorrect status = 3E.
when i inserted the hard disk in PC it somehow managed to boot with the os(w8) in the hard drive.
Any how the hard disk response rate is little slow. but in my laptop it stops with BIOS and doesn't proceed further.
Is it a hard drive error or some problem in mother board.
I can't turn off my laptop. Widnows shuts down, the hard drive LED doesn't blink, just the power LED and I can hear the fan from time to time and it just hangs there. So, all I can do is hold the power button and force it to shut down. Even more weird is the fact that I can restart the computer. This started about a month ago and I've tried everything I could think of... to no avail.Here's my system info:

Here's what I did:
1) I suspected a Windows update, so I tried to restore to a previous point.
2) Didn't want to reinstall Windows, so I tried to boot from the Windows CD and shut it down from there.
3) I tried to let it hang after the shutdown. This brought up a BSOD two times. It was DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.
4) Then I started suspecting the BIOS. Updated to A13 (the latest version for my model)
5) Resetting the BIOS to default settings.
6) Updated all drivers to the latest.
7) Restored the MBR. (Windows repair said that it couldn't find my Windows installation, even though I was able to boot)
8) Tried to shut down without the battery.
9) Tried to shut down without the power adapter.
10) Ran all Dell support center tests. The short ones, though. No problems were found.
My laptop is still under warranty, so I won't open it, but I'd like to know that I have tried everything before I contact the support center.My job is on my laptop. I don't have a PC, so if I take it to support, I won't be able to work.
I've finally managed to find someone to replace my optical drive with an SSD (wouldn't want to void the warranty, do we?) and I've got quite bit of a problem here. After installing Windows 8 on the SSD, I get the error "winload.exe missing or corrupted" and error code 0xc000000e. The installer automatically put the boot data on the original HDD, while the OS is on the SSD - and it seems the UEFI can't find the OS like this.
The OS itself seems to be intact, since pressing F12 at booting and selecting Hard Drive starts the computer normally.
I've tried to move the boot sector to the SSD, but it seems I'm missing something... Would a BIOS update maybe work with this?
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. The Warranty ran out in July of last year so for some reason I cannot email technical support directly.I ran the Dell PC Diagnostic test earlier today, all of which passed with the exception of the SMART Short Self Test which failed. Apparently my hard drive is "operating outside of normal parameters and should be replaced". I tried this twice, once with the Dell diagnostic software installed on my laptop and once using the downloadable diagnostics from the Dell website, both had the same outcome.
I then tried the system diagnostics accessed via the F12 key on system startup. Again all passed but the hard drive test which would not run and provided the following message:
Error code 2000-0142
validation 12985
Msg Hard Drive 0 s/n (omitted), self test unsuccessful status = 7
I have read around on the support forums that the next step to try is removing and replacing the hard drive then re-running the diagnostics. If this does not solve the issue and I have to replace the hard drive does that mean I will need to buy a new copy of windows to install on the hard drive, as my laptop came with no disks? I have backed up all my important files but obviously not any programs.
what my next steps would be and what the process is should I have to replace my hard drive? I am a "noob" in this area and don't want to spending uneccassary money on parts that don't need to be replaced or buying software I don't need to replace as it is already available if you see what I mean?

Every time I try to play games, such as Terrarria, The Hidden, Half Life 2, Killing Floor, etc.my computer shuts down. I make it about 5-10 minutes into a game, and it just shuts off. It might be overheating, but I keep my computer elevated, and theres good ventilation. My computer never used to do this. What could it be?
Everytime I open iTunes and play music while browsing Firefox, iTunes ALWAYS skips & crackles when the webpages are loading. CPU usage is very low and memory usage is usually at 1.15GB of 2GB. I tried changing the priority of itunes.exe to "realtime" but the problem still persists...
Anybody have any solutions? All I ask of my Dell is for it to play music while browsing the internet and it seems like it can't even do that...
I have a problem with the USB..Only the one on the left is working. The one on the back and on the right are not working. I've tried to update from the Windows 7 driver manager and it didn't work. I've installed the drivers from the dell website and it didn't work. It is possible that I haven't installed the correct drivers?

I tried with power and without power. it does not working. even when i plugged the charger the charging LED also does not on
when I tried to play any sound (details at bottom ). Anyway, I went onto the dell website to get a driver to see if it would fix it. I had to fond this service key thing, and then it told me I needed to get these three things. They were a couple of number with a letter or two in there, meant nothing to me. So I installed one, and it came up with this grid, and the boxes were getting filled in, and then some of the, were red in the middle. My laptop was reeeaaally loud at this point. But then, the power cable went out, and I've had this problem where the laptop loses connection to battery, and it went. So then, my laptop went off. And now when I tried to switch it back on, what happens is the power button lights up, three buttons on the right light up momentarily. But the screen stays black. So then the only things indicating it's 'on' is the power button, and the three lights on the bottom of the laptop, which I have no idea of purpose. Also, my laptop is very very quiet at this point. Anyway, yeah, I've taken battery out, charger out, both out, left both out, put both in, that hasn't solved it.
I had been messing around with my playback devices (enabling/disabling) because I had tried using Skype. Originally, I had a problem where my skype calls were coming through my headphones (plugged into the headphone jack), but any other noise, coming through my laptop speakers. I sorted this by disabling my "communications headphones". And then now, I had a problem where I was in a skype call, when everything else stopped producing sound, bar the skype call. So I tried reopening my browser, but nothing, checked iTunes, and the music wasn't playing. So I thought it may have been the skype call. It wasn't, as I ended it, and still no noise was coming through. Then after a few minutes, there was a just this background noise coming through my headphones, like a fan. I noticed that it was coming out of my headphones when plugged in, but also my speakers when unplugged. Also, when I muted sound, the noise stopped, so I thought that may hint at where this problem may occur.
When I play online games or online movies it sounds like something running in the background. My puter just shuts off in the middle. What can it be?

Brought it back out for a project and when I went to plug in a wired mouse that I used to use with it, it wouldn't recognize it. I figured there was an issue with the mouse so got a new plug and play wireless mouse/keyboard and when I plug the dongle in, it says " 2.4G Keyboard Mouse" but can't install it. I've flashed the bios and nothing.

Everything was fine for about an hour (created my MS Windows account, installed some apps, laptop was perfectly quiet), until I decided to play some music from YouTube. The sound was really cracking and from that point the laptop constantly makes quiet buzzing/cracking noise (it does not come from speakers!), just like HDD is reading data very fast or the fan was damaged. Sometimes music is played fine, and sometimes (i dont know what it depends on) sound is crackling even more.
Plus when the computer starts, the fan noise is quite buzzing too.
I don't know what could be the problem since it all started when I played music, I dont know what makes music crackle too! I tried to reinstall sound drivers but I guess it's not the driver, since the buzz is there even when Windows is not loaded.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a N5110 that just recently started acting up.When I turn it on, it shows me the dell screen and then it tries to boot windows but then it turns off right away. Sometimes it gets far enough to show me a black screen with white lettering that says windows boot manager and wants me to select windows 7 as the operating system but when I try to hit enter to select it, the laptop wont respond and it turns off.
I tried pressing f12 and running diagnostics. Sometimes it will respond and let me get to the blue boot device screen but then it stops responding and wont let me run the diagnostic, then it turns off.
This also happened yesterday but after a few tries i was able to run the diagnostic and it came back saying everything was great, then my laptop rebooted and worked just fine. But today when I try to turn it on it wont work, I have been at it for over an hour.also, when i try to boot it, it will sometimes give me beep codes: 2 beeps, then 1 long beep. It only has time to do this once before it turns off.
My dell inspiron n5110 laptop is not turning off..but windows shutdown succesfully and power switch led and cpu fan is ON..for turning off,i need to force shut down..

I have to perform following steps to boot the system:
remove the battery,
drain the charge by holding start button for few seconds
then boot the system.
If I insert battery after system is up, it says battery strength as "0% available".
I am not even able to flash the BIOS as it needs minimum 10% battery to be available.
I have an dell n5110 laptop. My charger broke, bought a new one. But now my computer wont fire up. No lights, no sound, 100% dead. It will not respond to any button presses and the power light is pulsing. The light with the spanner in it is constantly lit also. Ive tried removing the battery, only using AC etc. Ive held the power button for more than 30 seconds but nothing gets a response.
