Dell :: Latitude XT2 Compatibility With XT Media Base
Mar 15, 2010
This is a repost of a thread I posted on tabletpcreview's forums. It seems like nobody there knows or the forum is on its way out- almost 100 views with no replies.
So the story is that I'm getting tired of plugging in 4-5 wires every time I go to class or want to study away from home, and a docking station would solve this problem. Unfortunately, the official XT2 mediabase that Dell support wants me to buy is $270. That's almost 25% the cost of this machine! (Part number H266H) There's also another part on Dell.com that might be $199. Either way, that's a lot of money for a pretty basic port replicator.
The other thing is that when I google "XT2 mediabase", the first hit is a Dell PDF of a manual for the XT2 mediabase. The part number indicated there is PR12S. However, PR12S is the part number for the XT mediabase as well! The PR12S can be ordered online for anywhere between $20-80, so I'd much rather buy it, if it works.
Can someone confirm (ie you own an XT2 and the PR12S or have access to these two parts) whether the XT2 can work mostly flawlessly with the PR12S? I can deal with bypassing an error message, but I need the ports to work. Mainly, the DVI, VGA, ethernet, USB, and audio.
I just purchased a Latitude E6430 to replace my aging Latitude D630. I like to keep a second AC adaptor in my laptop case just for travel. When talking with the telephone sales agent at Dell, she told me the two adaptors are not compatible, yet both are PA-12, 65W, 19.5v, 3.34A. the only difference, is the old one is 2-pin and the new one is 3-pin. Is she blowing smoke at me?
I also have an off-brand "universal" audo/air/AC adaptor for the old computer that's, 90W, 19v, 2.7A that was listed as compatible with the D630. Are these all compatible with each other?
I have a core i5 haswell based xps 12. I was looking at getting an external usb bluray so that I can watch bluray movies on it. I was wondering if this one was compatible with it and windows 8.1:
Buffalo Technology Media Station BDXL Portable Blu-Ray Writer - BRXL-PC6U2B
I have an XPS 1330 and my wife has an older Inspiron 6000. The power cord on her Inspiron 6000 went bad. My adapter has an octagonal shape on it so it won't work with her notebook. However, my slim 3 in one travel charger does fit her notebook so we've been using that
I want to upgrade the ram on an older Inspiron 6400 from 1gb to 2gb. When I look online (including old posts on this site), it seems there are 2 options:
2 x 1GB Module 1024MB-533MHz DDR2-533 PC2-4200, 200p SODIMM; or 2 x 1GB Module 1024MB-667MHz DDR2-667 PC2-5300, 200p SODIMM.
Would my system be compatible with either types of ram? It currently runs 2 x 512MB 533MHZ DDR2-533 PC2-4200 .....
My notebook requires (or originally came with) 2 x 256 MB 533 MHZ DDR2 SODIMM Memory Module, but now I want to upgrade to DDR2 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-5300 (667MHz). This memory seems to be cheaper than the memory that is required for my computer so that is why I'd rather purchase it. I know the notebook will not allow the memory to run at that speed, but I wanted to double check on its compatibility.
I know it probably will work (90% sure), but getting a second opinion before a purchase is always better than after.
I just bought a DV3 yesterday and it came with a P7350 CPU. I was wondering/planning a CPU upgrade in the future. But Im not sure which CPUs this notebook supports. The current one is a Penryn with 1066 MHz FSB. So does that mean any Penryn CPU with 1066 FSB ? Even the Quad Cores ? Theoretically thats is. Since I know the thermal envelope is too big for this laptops cooling.
i have an dell inspirion n5110, the model with processor i3, and 500 gb hdd and last night the laptop was turned off and when i try to turn on return with 3 short beeps. The problem is from audio and usb circuit board and i want to replace it, but i cant find one in my region with the same part number. I found one with part number 2F34T and another one with 4WY5K, both are originally from another N5110.
It's pretty nicely specced out, but I won't go over the details, since the GPU and processor have nothing to do with it.
It comes with 4GB of DDR2 RAM, but it's only running a 32-bit OS (or so the box says). Does that mean that only 3GB will be used?
if it does have a 64-bit version of Vista, there's another problem. My backup for my old system was for Vista 32-bit. Will this cause problems on a 64-bit OS? Microsoft support says that some models may face problems when running 32-bit backups on a 64-bit OS, but is this one of them?
complain about the differences between Apple's version of MS Office Home and the PC variety.
Speaking generally, have you noticed any issues in working on Word/Excel/Powerpoint files on your MBP that were created on a PC, and vice versa?
I'm asking because my company (as do most) uses PCs at work, and I'm wondering if there could be any issues in my working on MS Office files at home with a MBP and then planning to send them to colleagues who are using PCs.
Dell say to remove battery which I did. Then to loosen the M2.5 x 5 mm captured screw (what is that?) Is that the thing that is on right side and is in the "cutout" of the media bay and ejects when
pushed (not the media bay).
When upside I see a hole on the right side and about half way up. And the last step is to slide the cover away (I am assuming that
I remove 5 screws on the cover itself (the 4 on the left and one in the center).
Today I upgraded from Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and all of my drivers were found without me needing to install anything except for one. In the device manager I have an exclamation by 'Base System Device
i'm going to buy one is it worth to buy base on the quality?

I am looking for the very latest drivers and utilities for my FW notebook. I have 32-bit Vista but the latest 32-bit drivers from Sony are for FW3. FW4 drivers are newer but they are for 64-bit Vista. Which of the 64-bit drivers that are 100% compatible with 32-bit Vista?
I am having is figuring out which SD cards are compatible with the inbuilt reader. I brought a class2 32gb SDHC which is not recognized. I am aware that such high capacity cards often are not, but had hoped in such a new system it would not be an issue.
Can anyone confirm the max sizes for both card slots, so that I don't go an buy a 16gb only for that not to register.
Problems with Safari. This just started a few weeks ago. I keep having compatibility issues with my Hotmail and Safari 3.2.1 (the 4.0 is worse), I can't even open my hotmail messages 4.0. At first I thought it was MSN, so I contacted them. I'm pretty sure it's a browser issue.
It keeps inserting random question mark symbols throughout my outgoing Hotmail messages.
I've tried resetting Safari, deleting cookies... blah blah blah.... done all the updates.
It's annoying. I like Safari, and want to continue using it. I have Firefox and it works fine. Could my computer have a virus?
I have Camino too, but it won't let me put anything in the "subject line" when composing a new hotmail message. Very annoying.
I've been researching for several days about replacing a fried motherboard in my Inspiron 9300, and I have began to wonder, if I could not just transplant it's guts into a 9400 base.
I see that 9300 Mobo's and base are practically the same cost as 9400 mobos and base.
Having a 9400 Mobo would allow me upgrades in the future that my 9300 would not and that idea makes me happy.
I'm hoping someone might be able to answer me having done this themselves .....
