Since I use it as a desktop replacement, I rarely use the battery. However, I felt like moving to my bed with the beast,
my Mini 9 was downstairs (too lazy to get it), and it said 100 percent charge. within like, 5-10 seconds, orange led battery light flashes, batter level immediately jumps to ~7 percent. In windows (using 7 btw), it says plug it in immediately, but then it just shuts off....
now i have had no performance issues and the thing runs great on the AC adapter, i didnt even know i had a problem until i unplpugged, havent used the battery in so long..
I have an M1730 8700M GT SLI 2.4GHz C2D 2 Hard Drives....specs in the signature...
anyway, I'm wondering if there is any program, script, or something similar that will, when on battery power:
Turn off all LED lights (Monitor case, speaker LEDs, touchpad LEDs), turn off the NIC card, and turn off one of the graphics cards, and turn down the monitor brightness.
As of right now, doing basically nothing (writing this post) I get about 1 hour 22 minutes of battery life.
I know that Dell's little program Quickset can handle the LEDs, but I dont want to have to run that program in order to turn off the LEDs on battery. Also I know that some power options (screen brightness) is handled in the Power Options but I'd like it so that when I unplug the computer from AC power, it does everything mentioned above...and then when i plug back in, all the lights and gizmo's and graphics cards come back on.
Anyone know how to do this?..I just want everything to be automatic and easy.
I have a Dell Latitude D800 that will not power on. When the power button is pushed the green power indicator light comes on, the CDROM spins for a moment, but then nothing happens, there is no BIOS information displayed, no power on self test, no Dell logo. It just sits there with the green power light on.I have tried removing the power & battery then pressing the power button for 10 seconds (actually, I have tried as long as 60 seconds). I have tried to turn on with the power connected but not the battery. I have tried removing the connector cable for the power button and the connector cable for the display and then reseating them.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop, the power light (light on the power button) and the left front LED white light blinks every 5 seconds. Â It doesn't power on at all.
Our Studio 1749 will retain a solid connection when the power adapter is plugged into the power board along the side of my laptop. I am unsure if the pins residing in the power board are pushed toward each other so as to not retain connection when the adpater in plugged into the laptop.
When I pull the power cord to switch to battery power while in Windows my lcd goes to black. The only way I get my video back is a hard reset and reboot. Later on I tried this and everything was back to normal. Why is this happening? Is this some weird standby?
I have just installed an i7 2670Qm on my T420 today. The machine will crash pretty soon after booting up, with the screen having colorful vertical and horizontal lines before it restarts itself and give the memory error beeping pattern (1 beep-pause-3 beeps-3 beeps-pause-1 beep). So then I took out one RAM from the bottom, and the machine appears to work normally again, more or less.  In the OS (Win7 64), The power manager alerts me that the 65w AC adapter is giving not enough power, so the laptop is running on battery. I thought I just need a 90W AC brick so the laptop will work as it should, so I am arranging a 90w one to come in later. But on a second thought, if the battery cannot start the laptop with 8GB of RAM properly.  Is it the CPU or RAM or Mobo or something else? Where should I look? The machine works fine with the previous CPU i3-2310m and 8GB of RAM.The RAM modules I have are 2 x 4GB Samsung 2Rx8 PC3-12800S-11-11-F3.The BIOS version is updated to the latest 1.46.
I enjoy the feature of automatically powering off the optical drive in power manager. My issue is after reformatting my T530 the option is there until I do an update using the Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update. One of the updates seems to remove the feature from the power manager.
After replacing the fan, I have a power up issue with the laptop. Basically, the laptop will only power on with the power cable disconnected at the motherboard. It was by mistake that after the fan was replaced and everything was put back together, that I noticed that the battery was not charging. Â I then reopened the machine and reconnected the power cable to the motherboard and nothing - no power. Â When plugging in the power source with the battery in place, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE then stays ORANGE and will not power up. No other lights, no fan noise, nothing. Â If I remove the battery, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE and stays white however will not power up either. Same agin, no other LEDs, not fan noise, nothing. Â I have now opened the machine back up and disconnected the power from the motherboard. Put it all back together and the laptop powers up as normal with the battery and it works fine. (Well until the battery runs out anyway).
I'm having some issues with my MacBook's USB hub. I have the macbook from 2007 I believe that has 2.0GHz and 1GB of RAM. WHenever I connect my iPhone to the USB port to sync, it pops up with this dialog box that says that my iPhone is drawing too much power and thus the USB hub will be deactivated.
I have an Aspire 6930 that suddenly died and will not power on. The LED power button was dark and unresponsive. I performed a power reset and the blue light on the power button came back on until I pressed the button to try to restart the laptop. When I did that, the blue LED immediately went dark and stayed that way until I did another power reset. It never gets to the point of anything powering on. Is it a problem with the battery or it the laptop toast?  This is a real bummer since I just replaced the hard drive a few weeks ago and replaced Windows Vista with Linux Mint (which btw is blazing fast compared to Vista).
Acer 5253 - Will not power on, battery or on AC power. Have tried all the suggested solutions but none have worked. Is it possible to get maintenace instructions (disassembly, where certain items are located, etc)?Â
I'm installing x64 XP Pro on my system (check my sig) after using x86 XP pro for many odd years. I was hoping I could get some help cultivating all the x64 bit compatible drivers for my system because this is a large undertaking, and all my drivers I have backed up to flash drive are for my current 32-bit system, so this is overwhelming to me...... I was hoping I could just get some help from the community retrieving OEM drivers (not Dell drivers) for my system. I want everything up-to-date, including RAID matrix manager and chipset drivers....
i have 2 problems with my m1730, one the keyboard lights stopped working, is it driven by a driver or something or what? my 2nd problem is device manager is telling me i have an unknown pci device and is always asking me for driver software. windows has directed me to nvidia for the driver. i know it is the physx processor but the physx control panel says no physx processor installed.
I used to have an Inspiron 9400 which I modded into an M1710, which is in this photo forum. I eventually managed to get some funding and bought the M1730 about 4 months ago and love it. Heres a basic photo of my setup:
The Specs: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9300 - 2.5GHz, 6MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB
Windows Vista(R) Ultimate 32 bit Dell(TM) Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio Software 17.0" UltraSharp(TM) Widescreen WUXGA (1920x1200) TFT Display with TrueLife(TM) Smoke Gray LCD display with Integrated 2.0 mega pixel web cam 4GB (2x2GB) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM 200GB SATA 7200RPM Performance Hard Drive 2nd 200GB SATA 7200RPM Performance Hard Drive Blu-ray Combo Drive Dual 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) 8800M GTX with NVIDIA(R) SLI(TM) Technology

I was worried this would be a slow processor but it's great does all my photo work and web design work with ease, and it's great for games ! Fantastic machine, love the light up keyboard.
In the photo it's sitting on an akasa 17" notebook cooler to help keep the temps happy.
I'll try and take some more photos of it at some point.
I am looking for people's opinions on what is the best OS to run on a M1730. I guess the choices would be Vista 32 or 64, XP32 or 64. If you could vote, AND reply with your opinions,
My 1730 is not cooperating this morning. Been trying to figure out why Im having a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) everytime I try to open anything. It even crashed during a system restore and also during a power off at the Windows is Shutting Down screen.
Things had been working great up until last night. I was reading something on a webpage when I got a pop up window on the page I was on, and when I clicked the window closed, I crashed to blue screen of death.
Haven't been able to do much since then. Not sure if its hardware or software related, but I do notice that my McAfee isn't running now and when I try to update it says 'Components Are Missing' and to reinstall.
Can't get far enough in a reinstall before I crash again, so thats getting me no where.
I was able to do a system restore to a day earlier, but the problem is still there.
I also have no way to network in safe mode due to only having wireless internet access.
If anyone has any suggestions on where to get help to find out what might be causing the problem. Please let me know. I can follow instruction if anyone can walk me through what I need to look for.
I am down to 1 GPU on my M1730, in the interest of replacing it , from the forum sticky these seem to be the options
XPS M1730 Nvidia 8700M (both single and SLI****) Nviida 8800M GTX SLI Nvidia 9800M GT SLI Nvidia 9800M GTX SLI
(I assumme this list is complete still . i.e. no 260's or 280's available)
Other than Dell or EBay are there any other sites , suppliers that people know of who might supply one of the above
DELL want 340 + Vat for a sli 8700m and there is every so often a 8800M for sale on ebay but they typically want approx 500 pounds for it (anyone had experience of buying one?)
I am dubious about the 8800 as evidence suggests it runs hot so would prefer a cheap 8700m or a warrentied 9800M
So my M1730 got shipped yesterday... they gave me 2 tracking numbers-- both were used in august 08.. So I waited it out, and later on, the two tracking numbers both updated... Both of them say "Electronic info received".
I call Fedex this morning, they tell me Dell hasn't shipped anything yet. I call Dell, the lady tells me it was shipped and not to worry. I don't know who to believe..
So basically I can't track my package and know when its coming....
I'm planning on buying a gaming laptop sometime at the beginning of the year and I was wondering if I could get some insight as to the quality and performance of the XPS M1730. And also as to Dell's customer service.
I went to my dell outlet today and I looked at the m130 they had on display. The screen was absolutely magnificent by far the most crisp screen have ever seen on a laptop. I checked the type of screen and im pretty sure its lg.
