I have an m1530 which I upgraded to 64 bit Windows 7. The default audio driver from windows update didn't allow me to use the microphone, so I used the Vista 64 Sigmatel driver from the dell site.
Because of a slight audio popping issue (many other people have discussed this) I updated to the IDT drivers for the m1645 as Black Russian recommended. Then I searched even further and found this list on laptopvideo2go:
I finally got the hack for the STAC9228 drivers working. Should work with M1330 and M1530, if so, please send me a short email with the tested configuration!
Running XP. Had this problem last year, but finally had them going again after install/uninstall of a multitude of drivers, including Sigmatel and LG and other versions.
Now they are dead again. Used the Dell diagnostics utility and the speakers are fine as well as the headphone sound.
But when I am in XP, I need to connect my headphones to have sound from both the headphones and the speakers, weird. Tried all kinds of Sigmatel drivers, but abandoned after 2 days .....
Just got an Inspiron 1420 at the dell outlet for 390 bucks. Comes with T2390, 8400M GS, 2 gb ram, 120 gb hard drive, 6 cell battery. first is this a good deal? second where can a get an OEM 9 cell bettery for the 1420? everywhere I look there selling knockoff batteries.
I've searched all over for an solution to this and can't seem to find any straight answers.
I'm trying to upgrade my Inspiron 1420 to wireless-n, but I'm running into some problems. I know that the recommended card is the Intel 4965agn, but that card only uses the 40Mhz band at the 5Ghz frequency (at 2.4Ghz, it only allows 20Mhz).
My router (Linksys WRT-160N) only uses the 2.4Ghz frequency, so if I use the 4965, I would only get 130mbps. I was led to believe that the Intel WiFi Link 5300 would work at both bands on 2.4Ghz, but I just installed it, and it doesn't seem to be compatible with my computer. I get a code 10 (unable to start) error.
So my question is this: Is there a wireless-n card that is compatible with the Inspiron 1420 and that will utilize the 40Mhz band at 2.4Ghz?.
I updated the bios on my 1420 from A09 to A10. I downloaded this from Dells support site. The utility runs from within windows and looked like it was working fine. It stated it would shutdown windows then reboot. Well it never rebooted. It is briecked. It gives me two LEDs onthe front and does nothing, no hard drive, no POST beeps.. nothing.
I called Dell and guess what, I'm 18 days past my warrenty. They are not much help.
I've searched for a way to revert back to the last bios but it seems laptop makers don't keep the old version on the chip like desktops do.
I've seen some people have had luch with a USB floopy drive but this is for Mini 9's. I've tried removing the battery and hlding the power button down for 20 secs but it does not start up (didn't think it would).
Does anyone know of anyway to restore the bios? I definately don't want to replace the motherboard.
I try to stay up-to-date with new models coming out, and have noticed that Dell is releasing a 17", 16", and 15" model with the new i7 processors. My question is will there be a 13-14" model coming out soon, or is that form factor too small for the new i7 processors? I have an aging Inspiron 1420 I am looking to replace sometime between now and the holiday season, but don't want to be waiting around for something I'm never gonna see.
My 1420 is suffering from a bad screen problem. There is a horizontal split in my screen so it is showing double.
Also I cannot start up my laptop. It runs the Dell thing then some garbled letters/numbers are everywhere. This problem started when I took off my battery since my notebook was charging.
Afterwards my screen froze, I got the BSOD and when I rebooted I was stuck with this problem.
I removed everything - but in the process - the camera board - located behind the bezel - broke. I figured that the screen should still work - until a camera can be bought - but it does not. It lights up a bit: dim black - but it will not show a picture.
Do any of yo know - if there could be another cause: cables not not plugged in right - etc? I just don't see how the camera board could be the cause since it's just an extra device.
There are two white and black connectors - under the keyboard - that are part of the lid - which I plugged in. There's also the power plug for the screen (also under the keyboard) and that's plugged in. The only thing I can think of is the camera board. Let me know if I'm missing something - though - because - if so - I'll just do something to fix it now.
Has anyone tried windows 7 on inspiron 1420? how is it running? is there any benefit apart trying something new? a user experience description would give some insight before becoming unnecessarily brave ...
is there a rweal diffrence in size and weight? i currently own a r1705 and its increadibly big and heavy, how can they compare to mine? I am about to sell mine but i cant decide wich to get, since 1900$ for a similiar xps is just too much...
I have a Inspiron 1420 from 2007. Computer will not turn out at all. When you plug the adapter into the call the light on the adapter works but when you plug the adapter into the computer the light on the adapter goes out and the computer will not turn on. No lights or anything.
The laptop is on its last legs but there are things I need to get off the hard drive.
this is very handy while use it during playing the media. now i want to use it to control the mouse pointer to browse files with ease. is it possible? if possible how?
I've got an Inspiron 1420 running vista ultimate. I've had some bug issues in the past where I would set the screen brightness to 100% in both battery mode and plugged-in mode and it will still look dim but those issues always got resolved after a reboot.................................................
I did some searches and found very old posts pertaining to bluetooth issues...
Whenever I start Windows from Stand By or Sleep the bluetooth connection is hit or miss...If my bluetooth mouse does not work I go to device manager where my Dell Truemobile 355 + EDR has issues and if I shut it down/start it up it works fine.
How can I fix this, its frustrating going into device manager every other time I start up my laptop!
I've downgraded my Inspiron 1420 recently to XP SP3 with all the device drivers properly installed. Everything seems works fine except that I found fan1 & fan2 always on at max. high speed (very noisy) and CPU always max. at 1.5GHz (seems lost SpeedStep control, checked enabled in BIOS, with SpeedStep control cpu speed should drop to lower rate while the notebook is idle), the fans and cpu speed status are checked via the utility program I8KFANGUI.
If I enabled automatically temperature control in I8KFANGUI then fan1 can turn off as cpu cool down to below 55c and only turn on at Low speed at 60c (still very quiet, noise no noticeable) but still fan2 is always high at 4XX RPM constant rate, I8KFANGUI in fact reported fan2 is not controllable even for just turn on and off .....
why, there is a black dot in my lcd panel, the dot can be seen whether the lcd turn on or turn off, are there a leaked of my lcd liquid? can the forums help me, cause i'm a girl, and i do not know about notebook, cause i had used it for about 2 weeks,
I bought an Intel QX9300 online for my upcoming Alienware m17x. When I tested the QX9300 in a Dell Inspiron 1420 today, the system fail to boot into bios.
Does anyone know if Inspiron 1420 motherboard support qx9300 or not? I am trying to figure out if I received a DOA chip or not.
i turned on my laptop and the screen had a horizontal line splitting into mirror images. it also has monochromatic horizontal lines all over the display. sometimes it will boot windows, sometimes it wont. i get an error saying windows cannot start do i want to start windows repair. it usually doesn't work and i end up going with the factory image restore.
i've gotten back to running windows and i've updated drivers, updated the bios, and nothing seems to stick. i've had it working perfectly (perfect display on the screen), but it seems after i did a windows update and it rebooted that it stopped working again. split screen, lines, the works.
i took apart the lcd screen to ensure all the cables were attached and they seem to be ok. i hooked it up to an external monitor and i didn't get the split screen mirror image, but i did get the monochromatic horizontal lines over the display. i can still use windows and the internet and everything.. it's just really hard on the eyes.
also, if it's the video card i know that most are integrated into the motherboard. mine is the nvidia geforce 8400m gs.. please tell me i can replace these independently.
I just bought a Dell Inspiron 1420 from my colleague..my first impression was, this is a great laptop..
Due to some problem with its internal wireless device, I decide to buy a DLink DWL-AG660 wireless cardbus adapter from the net..
When the card arrived, I try to install it & unfortunately, it cant fit in...I google the net & just found out that the AG660 is using a 32 bit pcmcia card bus adapter & my inspiron 1420 is equipped with (maybe) an express card slot..
I really need help. I helped a friend replace the LCD screen on his laptop - no problem until trying to reinstall the keyboard. Should be easy but I broke the connector latch doing so.
I've been able to put the ribbon back and reglue the latch together and put that back in but only 7 keys work out of 84. This is my first time replacing a keyboard on this type of computer
After getting fed up with my Studio 1535, I sold it and purchased an Inspiron 1420 from Dell Outlet. I sold the
Studio 15 for $445 and purchased the Inspiron 1420 for $467. I got 15% off and free shipping, so that saved me quite a bit of money. Below are my thoughts on the Inspiron 1420 vs. the Studio 1535.
Inspiron 1420 Pros (As opposed to the 1535)
-It is very lightweight. The Studio 15 was a little heavier than I wanted for carrying around at school. I carried it in a messenger bag which started to hurt my shoulder after awhile. The Inspiron 1420 is the perfect weight for school ....
Just installed Windows 7 64bit on my inspiron 1420 and its running fine. the only driver i'm having a hard time finding is "base system device" (location: PCI bus 3 device 1, function 3). i have no idea what it is and have no idea where to start looking for it. Dell's driver and suport website has to be one of the worst site ever cuz its soo hard to find anything. so if someone can help or have any idea i kind of need some help. and can someone show me were to get windows 7 64 bit drivers off the dell site? i'm looking to install the touch pad drivers so i can get more of the options and features.
