View 10 RepliesQuick question, does anybody know what is the screen resolution of the Studio XPS 16 from BestBuy?
If its the old xps 16 it can be 1366x768. If not it can be either 1680x900 or 1920x1080.
This specification is not displayed in their website, it only says it has a 15.6'' HD LED-backlit screen..
Best Buy has the new 1647 with Core i5 for $999

It really looks like a great deal. Anyone get to see it in store? How is the 1600x900 display? Decent colors and PQ? Going to check it out tomorrow night, but just wondering if anyone has seen this yet.
Does any one know if the bestbuy version (SX13-163B) has a LED screen.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm going to get someone to pick up a laptop for me in the US on a trip from Europe but this means that I'm limited to whatever is in stores with no scope for customisation.
Would anyone be able to answer the following questions about the Studio XPS laptops that Bestbuy sell?
-Screen - as far as I can tell they sell the basic model so I'm assuming this is a CCFL rather than an LED on the 13 and the 16? Anyone have this screen? Is it really that much worse than the WLED version? .....
My brother is in the states and will be there for one week. I don't have the time to purchase a laptop online as it will not arrive in time, before he leaves the country. My question is:
Can you buy extended warranty from Dell on a laptop that you buy in let's say Bestbuy? I need the Dell warranty because I can transfer it to Iceland and the company here will service the computer. Can't buy the Bestbuy warranty, cant transfer that
So is there anything glaring that this system is missing? Is upgrading to the LED or 9500 that big of a deal?

My main uses with be photo-editing (Photoshop) video watching, and light-to-moderate gaming. Will there be a noticeable difference if I make the jump to 512? Are the any games that are playable on the 512 that are completely unplayable on the 256 (ex. GTAIV)?
View 10 Replies View RelatedAfter spending months, I finally talked the woman into buying a laptop. I am a decent power user, use Macs,
Windows and Linux. First computer (Atari 800) had a cassette tape as storage. I've used DOS, Windows 3.1, Win 95, Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7. I build my own desktops, and have since they ran at 266MHz. My first Mac was a 7100/66. Yes, that's 66MHz, lol.
As you can well imagine, it was my azz on the line for anything that did not pan out. I really had to make sure we got her what SHE wanted and not what I wanted.
First, I have to review the online shopping experience. Pretty awful. The HP website is a pure train wreck. I hated the website enough that I could not bring myself to even consider an HP. One major manufacturer down .....
My girlfriend wants me to pick a laptop for her for school next year and I think I've decided on the Vaio CW series, but I'm a little confused about what I've heard.
I understand that the CW's on Bestbuy.com have a higher resolution screen and the 330 graphics card,
making it much better than the CW on the sonystyle website. Will Sony be updating their CW series soon to match Bestbuy's?
So getting the Envy 15 @ BB and off HP is pretty much the exact same right? Except from HP you get to customize it.
But BB might have the credit card special of no payment for 12 months and at the BB reward points at the same time..
I have a DV9535nr and I want to do a clean install to get rid of crapware. BestBuy furnished me a set of discs (at no cost unlike some I have read about) but will these contain the crap I want to eliminate? When I try to run the recovery disc feature and make my own from my hard drive it tells me a set has been made (yeah, yeah, ok ok MS/HP) so it looks like BestBuy beat me to it.
I ordered a set from HP to be on the safe(r) side but have read in this forum that these might not be such a good idea, either... bugs etc...
I have what's branded as a Dell Wireless 1510 802.11n card, so I bought Cisco-Linksys WRT160N-RM Wireless-N router. It distributes an N signal to a wireless adapter of the same make perfectly,
which I have plugged in to my Xbox 360, but my laptop just gives the generic Windows 7 'can't connect to network' error. I've tried everything in the settings of the router,
and yes, my drivers are up to date. I even switched to Broadcom drivers, since Broadcom is the actual manufacturer of the card; Dell distributes it and puts their own brand of driver on it.
Iv got the studio 17 and im considering getting a wireless 'N' capable router to stream HD content wirelessly to my laptop via my NAS. The only problem is id need a 'N' capable card in my laptop aswell.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was trying to get Dell to match Best Buy's price on the Studio XPS (AND get a LED screen without them noticing) and one of the reps gave me this link

It is the old offer with the $200 gift card but no LED screen
Wanted to know if you can upgrade the Studio 17 Laptop to the optional video card (ATI mobility 3650) that Dell shows on there web site
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Dell Studio 1737 for mainly college, everything about this laptop is great, except the graphics card, the infamous Intel Media Accelerator.
I would like to know if there's anyway to replace, or would I have to get another motherboard to replace it, and if I have to replace it I would like to know a estimate of how much it would be,
and personally I would like a high end Nvidia card =], not so much ATI.
i would like to ask if somebody know if I can change Radeon 3650 which I have in my Studio for nvidia 8600m? I found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dell-Vostro-17...1%7C240%3A1318 on ebay but I`m not sure if I can change it.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have dell studio 1737 with a core 2 duo T9400, 4GB Ram and ATI Mobility Radwon HD 3650 and i was wonderfing if i could change out the video card for a 512?
Beause it lags a little playing COD4
I'm looking at the Studio XPS 16 right now, because the Studio 17 doesn't have the option of coming with a 512 meg video card ( very disappointing )
If you look at the base system for the Studio 17, it's an amazing machine with the 2.4 ghz chip, for around $1,000. Crazy stuff. This is a beautiful laptop, but with only 256 megs of fram on the video card it just isn't good enough.
With that said, what other options are there for laptops with a 2.4 ghz chip, and a 512 meg card out there right now ?
I ordered a Bluetooth card from Dell for my Studio 17, and I was wondering if anyone has installed one of these yet. I already have the WLAN card installed which is for the WiFi operations and Im wondering how hard of a job it is to install the Bluetooth card.
I already added a second hard drive to my laptop so going inside of it isnt a problem I know what Im doing but have no clue where the Wireless cards are mounted. Im hoping the Bluetooth slot is marked so I know where it goes.
Just bought a 1737 yesterday but the dell website crashed after I'd made he specification, so I had to do over.
Long story short, second time I selected the components I managed to miss upgrading the graphics card from integrated intel to dedicated ATI.
The status is currently "preparing for delivery" and I need to have the order amended to include the dedicated graphics
Does anyone know what the part number for the Verizon 5720 card is for the 1340?.
I found this on Dell's website - verizon 5720..
But, the picture is for a sprint card so the P/N on screen is no help. I have been thinking about adding one from ebay or somewhere cheaper but want to make sure I get the right one...
Been lurking the boards over the last 9 months and every month (at least used to be) there was a "Just around the corner Dell is refreshing their XPS line" or "releasing a new Studio with better graphics card" post.
Now they either seem to have died entirely (i.e. people realize why there has been no XPS refresh with Montevino) or I'm missing where those posts have gone.
Before I put some $$$ towards an HP, any news?
I like the Studio line but their graphics cards are quite low and the XPS are about as old as an Apple ][e :/
I got my Dell Studio 1555 with Intel 5300 Wireless card (3 antenna attached)..
I bought off a Dell 1510 Wireless card off ebay to replace it ..
Now i have received my wireless card but it has only two antenna stop in it.. the middle one is not there.
I've ordered a Dell Studio 15 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 with 256MB. Now I am getting info that the 256MB version uses DDR2 and the 512MB version uses
DDR3/GDDR3! IS THIS TRUE?! If it is, I only have a few hours before I can change my order!
I called up several dell techs/sales reps and NO ONE HAS A Cute my little pony CLUE .....
i just wanna ask if i can upgrade my dell studio 15 laptop with ANY graphic card?
Dell Studio 1555
T6500 @ 2.1 GHz
4 GB RAM
64-bit .....
I don't play games too often. But I do watch videos & movies & sometimes work on photoshop or GIMP. So will 512MB graphic card make a huge difference compared to 256MB graphic card in my case?
