Iv got the studio 17 and im considering getting a wireless 'N' capable router to stream HD content wirelessly to my laptop via my NAS. The only problem is id need a 'N' capable card in my laptop aswell.

I got my Dell Studio 1555 with Intel 5300 Wireless card (3 antenna attached)..
I bought off a Dell 1510 Wireless card off ebay to replace it ..
Now i have received my wireless card but it has only two antenna stop in it.. the middle one is not there.
What is the difference?? Why is the 1510 $25 more.
I just had a Dell agent tell me the 1515 is AG only and the 1510 is N.
I got my Dell about 2 weeks ago with Vista pre installed. I then took the leap and installed Win 7 32bit.
With the upgrade all is well except the mobile broadband device.
The Mobile broadband application that dell supplies for win 7 is very primitive with very unstable network searching and connecting.
I was just wondering what the latest version software for win 7 is and where to look for an firmware upgrade if indeed there is one?
as of 2 hours ago my high speed has been stuck at 1 Mbps, much slower then its usual 65+ that I've had over the last 6 days since I got my laptop.
I'm thinking I may have received a faulty wireless card, since when I checked my wired desktop downstairs it's still at it's usual 100Mbps, and my sisters Inspiron 1420 has its normal high speed.
Now when I restart my wireless adapter (Intel 5100) the speed fluctuates between 4-38 Mbps for about a minute before dropping- and staying at 1 Mbps once again.
I checked if there are any computers stealing my wireless connection just in case, and as I thought no one is .....
My wireless card stopped working and I get the message that the radio is disabled. F2 is supposed to turn it on,but no longer does so. Tried reinstalling the wireless card driver, but that didn't work. I am told that I probably have a software conflict. How to find and correct the conflict?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Dell 1505 wireless N card is a constant headache, If I hide my ssid the card detects and connects to my router but I can never access the internet. It may work sometimes but most of the time my SSID has to be on.
I have tested this with two different routers and the results were the same, vista shows local access only

My main uses with be photo-editing (Photoshop) video watching, and light-to-moderate gaming. Will there be a noticeable difference if I make the jump to 512? Are the any games that are playable on the 512 that are completely unplayable on the 256 (ex. GTAIV)?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an xps gen2 that currently has an Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG wireless card inside. I've got no major complaints with it, it has always worked well and gets pretty good range but I'm looking to boost the range a bit. I see that the atheros cards get good reviews on the forums. My question is, would getting one of these cards boost my range? Many times the intel card will detect a network with a weak signal, but will not be able to actually connect to it. Can any of you suggest a good wireless card that would be compatible with my pc? Which atheros card should I buy? I just want to make sure its compatible. I recently went out of town and was trying to pick up a signal with the laptop, and I found over 10 networks but the card had trouble connecting with any of them. (most were showing 2 bars for signal strength)For the record I realize distance and obstructions limit the range of any card, but mine seems to lack the power to punch through, but works just fine at home and holds a 100% signal. I am trying to stay with the mini pci express cards that I can put inside the laptop instead of pcmcia cards.

The Intel card costs 10 bucks more and im likely going to get it just because of the low cost to upgrade, but just curious if theres a huge difference between the two.
I finally installed a new wireless card, so I don't have to use my usb wireless adapter. its working but there is something that I don't really like.... I only get 1 or 2 bars of signal (usb wireless: full signal) Average speed of wireless card 11Mbps (usb wireless: 54Mbps)

Does anyone have any idea why? Is this something affecting Dell globally or is it just UK/Europe in a mess?
I guess I could survive with just wireless G, but it seems ridiculous to be limited to that these days;
I guess I could also just order it and pick up an intel/dell Wireless N card for ~£25 and install it myself,
but again the question arises, why is it necessary? I assume some of you do have an 802.11n card of some description in your 1645/1747's have you seen any problems with it? .....

My father has one of the Dell mini laptops.
He is in the hospital at the moment, and I'm wondering what kind of card/fob etc., if anything, is available to allow him to have wireless access (like 3G) to internet?
The hospital doesn't have any wireless available, nor do there appear to be any 'hotspots' accessable from the hospital, so looking for what I'd need to access a local internet service etc?
I have a new Studio XPS with the dell drivers from the website installed on it (Windows 7) and a Belkin N+ router.
The laptop will not connect above 54mbps. If i set the router to N only then the laptop will not connect at all.

Ok so I have a replacement coming in form my old 1640. When I look at the build, it has the intel wifi 6200. My current system has the Intel 5300 with Wifi Link. What I want to know is if the 6200 is better than the 5300.

I have a 3rd aerial anyway bought from a 3rd party but of course the built in one (if available) would be a better choice for performance .....
this is about the 4-5th time he helped me done it but the wireless never works nor wired with my laptop. The thing is my wifi card Intel Pro Wireless 2200 broke a few years ago somehow.
I ended up purchasing a wifi card on ebay named gigabyte pci card for my laptop. It worked when my other friend installed the drivers.
Right now I have a Intel Pro 2200 wireless card. It only has wireless B. I can get a 3945 card for $12.50 shipped that has wireless G and B, or an Atheros card. I'm not sure what the whole wireless "N" thing is, so maybe someone could fill me in on that. Right now I only need the "G" capabilities as far as as I know. Is the Intel Pro 3945 the best bang for the buck? I see theres also a a 4945, but its almost double the price of the 3945. And as I mentioned above, I see Atheros cards, but I'm not sure how good they are. Do they have better wireless pick-up then the actual Intel cards?

I don't know if it's because there are 3 of us on the wireless?
We have a linksys wireless router and I changed the channel to 11 just in case the neighbors (duplex) were on the same channel causing interference.
But still it will go very slowly sometimes the router is upstairs (desktop is up there) and i'm in a downstairs bedroom....it says I have a Low connection.
I called the cable company thinking it had something to do with that and it wasn't.
Is there anything I can do on my part to make it stronger possibly a program or refreshing an IP or messing with router settings?
I have a dell precision m6400 but i dont have the intel 5300 card.
in this system the 5300 can only be used because its half the size and thats what is allowed in the computer.
you cant even try and fit a normal size one. my question is can i install a normal one in the wwan slot?

Due to some problem with its internal wireless device, I decide to buy a DLink DWL-AG660 wireless cardbus adapter from the net..
When the card arrived, I try to install it & unfortunately, it cant fit in...I google the net & just found out that the AG660 is using a 32 bit pcmcia card bus adapter & my inspiron 1420 is equipped with (maybe) an express card slot..
I need to download drivers for the dell Wireless 5530 Mobile Broadband Built-in Mini-Card.
I have searched various dell sites with no joy! I can find drivers for the 5520 no problem but they won't work. I've had no joy with the vista driver update feature either.
I can't even find them with google!
