My wireless card stopped working and I get the message that the radio is disabled. F2 is supposed to turn it on,but no longer does so. Tried reinstalling the wireless card driver, but that didn't work. I am told that I probably have a software conflict. How to find and correct the conflict?
View 2 RepliesMy laptop was working fine this morning. I took a nap and when I went to use the computer again, it can't find the wireless network. The network icon in the system tray is all gray bars with a red X through them. When I hover over it, the pop up says, "Wireless Network Connection Radio Disabled." Only two things could have changed: my daughter might have used the computer (using a non-administrator account) and Comcast cable might have gone out.
I'm using:
Studio 1458
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Version 6.1.7601
Dell (Broadcom) Wireless 1520 Wireless-N WLAN Mini-Card
Netgear wireless router, Windows Firewall, Avast free anti-virus (have been using all three for years)
This is what I've tried:
-Verified that cable TV and phone are still working.
-Reset modem and then router then restarted laptop. (This is what I do any time the cable goes out and it usually works.)
-Verified that iPad and iPhone can see network and use it.
-Plugged laptop in through router and can see and use network.
Therefore it has to do with the wireless.
-In Network and Sharing Center, clicked set up a new connection or network and selected connect to the Internet > wireless. No connections available.
-Checked system restore to see if there's a restore point recently that would indicate my kid installed something. (Child of course denies using computer. ) Last restore point was Windows update five days ago.
-Restarted in safe mode, was unable to see wireless network.
-Verified that Device Manager sees wireless adaptor and says it is working.
-Deleted and reinstalled driver in safe mode.
-Deleted and reinstalled driver from latest downloaded version. This also deleted all existing network connections listed under manage wireless networks.
-Turned off wireless phones.
-Disabled LAN adaptor and retried all of the above.
-Tried FN F2 which pulls up an image of two radio towers. The one on the right, that looks like it's a tower without a signal, is highlighted and has a circle with a slash through it over top of it.
-Ran through troubleshooter numerous times.
-Restarted computer numerous times during this testing.
-Went into Windows Mobility Center to turn wireless on but button is grayed out.
In Windows Mobility Center clicked on "launch" under radio control options and selected All the Radios (WiFi was the only one not grayed out).
In Windows Mobility Center, found that the above was still an option so it appears WMC doesn't see that they're turned on.
-Updated the firmware on wireless router.
-Update driver for Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptor
-Manually added wireless network through Network and Sharing Center.
-Verified my antivirus software is working and is up to date.
-Changed security options on router so there was no security. (Of course changed it back.)
How to update the firmware on the wireless adaptor card if there is any.
I still have a gray wireless network connection icon in the system tray with a red X through it. The pop up still says wireless network connection radio disabled. I am unable to connect to the Interenet through the wireless, even in safe mode. This is my work computer (I own my own business) and in order to use the wired connection I have to sit on the floor in a corner. It's very inconvenient, not to mention uncomfortable. (My child does not usually have access to my computer but our home computer is down and I let her use it a few days ago and forgot to turn off the guest account.
I have a Lenovo t420s with dualboot win7 and Ubuntu. I never had any problems until now and could switch on/off my wireless and bluetooth connections via the Hardware Switch (right bottom left of the notebook) or via FN + F5.
However, without any specific reason the wireless and bluetooth was switched off and the the system tells me that I have to switch on WIFI via the Wireless Radio Switch. However, although I can move it, it doesn't make any difference for the Switch.
I tried to reset the BIOS to Default and changed the network settings, and also rebooted several times. I won't work with any of the two systems.
Is there a way to turn on or off the wireless/bluetooth radio when the T420 is docked and using an external keyboard? I don't want to open the lid on the T420 every time to use the Fn+F5 keys when docked.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe wireless switch doesn't work; indication light won't turn on. Tried Smartwifi, kept prompting me to turn on the hardware switch. This also measn I can't use the bluetooth. Spoke with sony support for hours and all they could tell me is to send it for repair. I'm out of warranty. Device manager doesnt report any problem with the driver. I updated the bios. I restored settings to factory default. Nothing worked.
I decided to open it up to see if i can replace the wifi board myself. But when i did get into the motherboard, it seems the wifi is internal and the hardware radio switch is broken. I checked out other motherboard photos with the same model and i noticed that there should be a tiny piece of plastic sticking out near the wifi part, next to the sd card slot.
Has anyone ever successfully or "magically" able to physically turn on a broken wireless hardware switch? Is there any software switch to bypass the hardware?
I opened my Vostro 1400 some time ago to clean it out, and put it back together again carefully. I also reformatted it recently.
Ever since, the wireless switch at the front doesn't seem to do anything when I press it all the way to the right. Before, it would show all wireless APs in the area, and their signal strengths, on the screen.
Okay so my first question is this: Right now my wireless light is on showing that it's wireless, but if I close my laptop, or if it goes to sleep, and then I go back onto my laptop the wireless stops working and the light is off and it won't go on when I move the switch. I have a Aspire 5590
My second question is: I've hooked up a second monitor to my laptop I checked the settings and it works like this, if I move my mouse to the right and keep going, my mouse appears on the second screen. How can I make it so that the start menu and everything goes from the first to the second screen that way I can close my laptop, cause if I close my laptop screen it disables the second screen also/

This morning when I turned the M6400 on, my wireless had shut down, showing a X on the tray icon.
It has been working fine under my Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit for weeks, since I used the free upgrade I got from the Microsoft Windows 7 demo. The Intel 5300 was fine in device manager.
When I ran the Intel ProSet Wireless diagnostics, it said that the Radio is Switched Off. The driver is the latest Intel 13.0.0 version for Windows 7 64bit.
I called Dell Business Support and the tech spent an hour uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, reinstalling the ProSet utilities and trying to find a way to get the radio to switch on.
He tried to uninstall the Intel generic driver and install the older Dell driver, but apparently could not get the Intel to uninstall, so the installation of the older driver kept failing.
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-70 and since almost 2 days i'm seeing that my wireless connections are not working/appear. Till about 2 days ago all worked fine. It says 'hardware radio off', i looked on google but nothing come up yet, i tried to "Reset PROSet" but still, after the reset it's the same problem. There isn't such a big problem, because i use an internet cable and all works fine, yet because it's a laptop i want to buy a router so there's the problem, i can buy it but won't work... as wireless.
How can i fix that? How to turn hardware radio ON? Is there a button or a key combo?
Iv got the studio 17 and im considering getting a wireless 'N' capable router to stream HD content wirelessly to my laptop via my NAS. The only problem is id need a 'N' capable card in my laptop aswell.

somehow, i cant watch bloomberg tv or listen toblomberg radio on studio 17 vista x32 ie7. it was working fine yesterday and bloomberg tv/radio can be played smoothly on another computer studio xps 16.
i reset the browser and windows media player is working , i can watch nba.com video and youtubes w/o problem. its just on this particular website bloomberg.com, i cant access media contents.
Dell Studio not turning on? I've had this happen several times.
On previous times, I would take the battery out for a day or 2, put back in and it would turn on. Unfortunately, this time, no-can-do!
I got my Dell about 2 weeks ago with Vista pre installed. I then took the leap and installed Win 7 32bit.
With the upgrade all is well except the mobile broadband device.
The Mobile broadband application that dell supplies for win 7 is very primitive with very unstable network searching and connecting.
I was just wondering what the latest version software for win 7 is and where to look for an firmware upgrade if indeed there is one?
as of 2 hours ago my high speed has been stuck at 1 Mbps, much slower then its usual 65+ that I've had over the last 6 days since I got my laptop.
I'm thinking I may have received a faulty wireless card, since when I checked my wired desktop downstairs it's still at it's usual 100Mbps, and my sisters Inspiron 1420 has its normal high speed.
Now when I restart my wireless adapter (Intel 5100) the speed fluctuates between 4-38 Mbps for about a minute before dropping- and staying at 1 Mbps once again.
I checked if there are any computers stealing my wireless connection just in case, and as I thought no one is .....

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am restoring a donated XPS M1210. It will not turn on with power switch, when plugged in to power adapter, with battery installed. If I unplug power supply and plug it back in, the laptop turns on by itself. I replaced the power switch board, assuming the board was shorted out, but it did not change the situation. I can turn off the computer by pressing and holding the power button until it shuts down.
I have performed a clean install and checked bios but find no settings that could affect this.
I have a x201 cto using 64bits Win 7. The wireless adapter is intel advanced-N 6200. However, I found my wireless always turn off suddenly and I can not turn it on anymore (even using Fn+F5) until reboot.

Everything in hardware diagnostics indicates that everything is functioning...but it will not connect to our home network. I have troubleshot the wireless system...and everything on the router is working normally. When I try to connect to the wireless network, the computer tries to connect, but eventfully just says it cannot connect.

When this problem occured, i dont know how the laptop automatically powered on without me touching it. THe second time it turned on, i tried to pressed the power button, the laptop didnt go to sleep mode, which is supposed to happen normally. I tried holding the switch for more than 10 seconds, it didnt powered off. When i hit restart from the charm bar, the laptop shuts down and turns back on without problem.. But then i hit the shutdown, it turned off... But, i cant get it back on, i even tried holding it for a minute. I even took the battery out, tried it with the AC, but no luck..

The wifi LED remains unlighted and 'diagnose and repair' attempts do not work (telling me to turn wireless capability on by flicking the switch, which is already in the ON position).

i have been having an issue that has me perplexed, i recently did a clean install to windows 64 bit, and now i cannot seem to get the intel wirless client to work, it will only let me use the windows wireless client. I downloaded the latest drivers and utilities and software, both from the intel website and the dell site, installed both, but does not allow me to use the intel wireless client. what I am not doing correctly to activate the intel wireless client.

Everything looks smooth except that I found there is no way to turn on the mobile broadband switch.i believe I have a whitelist-removed bios otherwise it won't boot. The driver downloaded from lenovo website is installed fine, I can see the card working in device manager. I could read the iccid in windows network settings. Everything looks good, but I just can't turn mobile broadband on.
My laptop runs windows 8.1, I heard there is a thinkvantage connectivity tool that might work for windows 7 but not windows 8. I have quite a few files on my laptop and going back to windows 7 is the last option I would like to try.
The computer is in dead state the next morning after I switched its Windows power plan to high performance. In order to unlock power plan options, I disabled connected standby via a registry key in HKLMSystemControlSet001ControlPowerCsEnabled to 0.
After investigating, I read that this computer doesn't support normal hibernate wake-up process other than connected standby. I select shut down option in the menu (hibernate option disappeared). It's possible that shut down option in the menu was actually set to sleep/hibernate in power settings by default.
The battery was at 100% before I last turned it off.
The LED power indicator doesn't light on when power supply is connected on either DC or microUsb.
