Dell :: UWB Slot, Any Use?
Apr 30, 2009I know the UWB port can be used for the 'wireless USB card' if you can find one, but in the absence of that can it be used for anything else?

Is there a simple way to remove the plastic blank that ships in the express card slot?
I have to use a dental pick to catch a corner of it and pull it out. The media slot works fine because you just push in on it until it pops out but the express card doesn't seem to do this? ..
The M1330 has been out for awhile now. I was wondering if there are any new options/manufacturers for the CD/DVD slot drive? My device manager says I have the Mata
it won't let me type out the whole name, i guess the forum thinks its a bad word), but when I cracked open my laptop the other day I noticed my drive said it was a Panasonic.
Drive works fine with the exception that it can be loud at time (especially loading and ejecting discs). I was wondering or hoping that there might be some other or better options out there.
I was playing with my computer and I noticed that in the battery compartment, there is a compartment for something that looked like a sim card, so I busted out the user manual (for the first time) and looked it up, and sure enough it's a slot for a sim card.
Anyway, I'm wondering what that slot does, which I'm probably guessing mobile broadband? HSDPA/EVDO?
Does anyone here actually use the sim card slot, and is there something special you need or can you just go to a local AT&T store and buy a sim card with HSDPA?
I have the Dell Studio 14z... I want to make use of my Express Card Slot.. Will I get any peformance boost by installing my OS to the following card:

View 10 Replies View Relatedhas anyone tried putting a SSD in the PCIe slot designated for the WWAN in the M1330? Something like this one:[url] ...specifications
And then having a normal hard drive in the 2.5" HDD area for storage or games and stuff. Hopefully they will make these PCIe SSDs much faster and cheaper.
After a month of using my laptop, today is actually the first day I'm trying out this slot load drive.
I inserted a CD given by my instructor, it was running really slow and some cranky / buzzing noise could be heard from it. I mean is it normal ? It loads kinda slow too.?
Everything was working fine until lately I noticed that during the BIOS the loading bar stops 4/5 of the way for around 10 seconds,
then I hear the slot load drive turn on and only then my computer boots up .....
Just getting more acclimated with my laptop and I was looking underneath the battery and noticed there's a little slot and an image that looks like it will take a micro sd card.
Anyone know what this is used for? I would imagine some kind of service module. Just to be clear, this is NOT the multi-card reader on the side of the computer, but physically beneath the battery (when flipped over).
I just received my new Studio 1555 and a week or two ago, I had second thoughts about not getting the Blue-Ray player. Is it possible to easily upgrade this through Dell or by other means?
Has anyone else upgraded their slot load drive from the DVD-R to Blue-Ray?
i just found out that there is a SIM card slot inside the battery section. can anyone brief me on the usage of this and also the procedure for the same ?

I own a Studio 15, bought in UK. Now I am in India. For some reason my optical drive has stopped working properly. It can hardly read disks and it ejects them back out.
Trying about 10 times, sometime it is able to read the disk. I have tried various disks and have tried reinstalling OS too but in vein.
Expansion slot... express card or pc... I am lame on this selection going forward.???
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been having some problems with my slot-load drive (TEAC DVW-28SLC). It has been coastering a lot of DVD-DL disks lately and overall it is very slow. I have been reading that they are putting faster drives in the newer M1530's. After a long battle with XPS support, I convinced them to replace the drive. Do you think I will get one of the faster drives or will I be stuck with the same drive? I really don't use it all that much, but when I do want to use it, it is a major pain, especially when it coasters expensive DL-DVD's.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have this 4-year old laptop. I bought a Kingston 2GB DDR2 800mhz CL6 PC2-6400 module to install into the second slot (the first one has the stock 2GB RAM module). BIOS didn't recognize it, so I tried to plug the original RAM module from the first slot (A) into the second (B) and the laptop didn't even power on. Then I tried to install the Kingston into the first slot (A) and the laptop did power on and run OK. So it is clear that the second RAM slot is not working properly.
Does it mean that I need to replace the motherboard in order to fix it? Is there any other way this could be fixed (maybe the slot isn't bad, it just needs some setup, maybe cleaning, I don't know)?
I have a Studio XPS 1640 and put a expansion slot SSD in the expansion/express port (the part that holdes the remotes and such).
The problem is that I cannot remove the drive, the drive does not seem to spring out like in all the other computers I have used it in.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get access to the inside of that bay by removing the back? I took the metal back off but it was not directly visible ..
Does anyone have any information or updated drivers for this drive. The only Blueray drive listed on Dells driver page is the BC-5600S.
The laptop is only 2 months old. Is this a newer drive or is the 5600 the replacement.
I am not happy with the performance of the drive so far, blueray movies sometimes stop while it searches the disk, and I am yet to successfully burn a Dual-layer disk (verbatim).
