I have been looking around to get an answer for this question, but all I get is some old threads or inaccurate answers. So, I thought I make this thread to us, m1730 owners, to post what drivers we're using, and how the laptop performs with them.

I have a M1730 and was looking for some drivers which I cant find out. My laptop is still in warranty so I talked with a representative. He/she found me the drivers and now I am being charged for that saying its dell on call service. I had a chat using Contact Technical Support and now I have a due.

I still haven't been able to get a solid 30+ fps in WoW (world of warcraft).
I did a clean install of Windows XP and started off with the drivers on Dell's website, which gave me roughly mid 20s fps in WoW.
I just installed windows 7 Ultimate, ran windows update and everything, but I still have 2 unrecognized devices in my Device Manager.
The 2 devices are:
Base System Device
PCI Device
They both have the horrible ! next to them, and I can't figure out what drivers I'm missing.
I currently have A M1730 with Sli 8800m Gtx and am having gfx card driver problems.
I had 197.15 drivers installed when my system crashed.
To cut a long story short, I fully formatted my HDD I have tried installing the newest 197.16 drivers,
188 drivers and the offical 179 drivers from the dell website but everytime I install them my computer freezes after the Windows loading screen and it just goes blank and nothing happens.
I have an XPS 17 L702X. I just did a re-install of windows 7 on my wife's laptop. How do I use the drivers and utilities disc to get the drivers for the hardware on this computer? I can't get online on it. I do have the discs.

Or do they just download the latest drivers from the Nvidia webiste test on a particular machine for a little while and either pass or fail the driver for official use?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI own a Dell 7520 and it has four 3.0 usb ports. However, I have discovered that one program I use does not support Intel 3.0 USB ports only USB 2.0 ports. So the only port that program will use is the Realtek USB card reader on the 7520 because that is a native 2.0 port.
According to a poster Innogen on the Intel support forum "The BIOS in my Dell Inspiron 7520 allows me to disable it so that the USB 3.0 ports revert to USB 2.0 functionality." but I can't find any such functionality in my BIOS (using version A06).

I tried uninstalling the Intel USB 3.0 drivers in WIn 7 Ultimate hoping that when I rebooted it would install USB 2.0 drivers but it simply reinstalled the USB 3.0 drivers.
I would really like to get this program working on my computer and while I am not happy about losing USB 3.0 functionality I can live with it until the vendor gets its act together and starts to support Intel USB 3.0.
I'm installing x64 XP Pro on my system (check my sig) after using x86 XP pro for many odd years. i have 2 problems with my m1730, one the keyboard lights stopped working, is it driven by a driver or something or what? my 2nd problem is device manager is telling me i have an unknown pci device and is always asking me for driver software. windows has directed me to nvidia for the driver. i know it is the physx processor but the physx control panel says no physx processor installed.

I was worried this would be a slow processor but it's great does all my photo work and web design work with ease, and it's great for games ! Fantastic machine, love the light up keyboard.
In the photo it's sitting on an akasa 17" notebook cooler to help keep the temps happy.
I'll try and take some more photos of it at some point.
I might be getting the Dell XPS M1730 by the end of the month.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy 1730 is not cooperating this morning. Been trying to figure out why Im having a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) everytime I try to open anything. It even crashed during a system restore and also during a power off at the Windows is Shutting Down screen.
Things had been working great up until last night. I was reading something on a webpage when I got a pop up window on the page I was on, and when I clicked the window closed, I crashed to blue screen of death.
Haven't been able to do much since then. Not sure if its hardware or software related, but I do notice that my McAfee isn't running now and when I try to update it says 'Components Are Missing' and to reinstall.
Can't get far enough in a reinstall before I crash again, so thats getting me no where.
I was able to do a system restore to a day earlier, but the problem is still there.
I also have no way to network in safe mode due to only having wireless internet access.
If anyone has any suggestions on where to get help to find out what might be causing the problem. Please let me know. I can follow instruction if anyone can walk me through what I need to look for.
Anyone with experience installing windows 7 64 bit on XPS M1730? Things to watch for? Recommendations?

(I assumme this list is complete still . i.e. no 260's or 280's available)
Other than Dell or EBay are there any other sites , suppliers that people know of who might supply one of the above
DELL want 340 + Vat for a sli 8700m and there is every so often a 8800M for sale on ebay but they typically want approx 500 pounds for it (anyone had experience of buying one?)
I am dubious about the 8800 as evidence suggests it runs hot so would prefer a cheap 8700m or a warrentied 9800M
So my M1730 got shipped yesterday... they gave me 2 tracking numbers-- both were used in august 08.. So I waited it out, and later on, the two tracking numbers both updated... Both of them say "Electronic info received".
I call Fedex this morning, they tell me Dell hasn't shipped anything yet. I call Dell, the lady tells me it was shipped and not to worry. I don't know who to believe..
So basically I can't track my package and know when its coming....
I got a free Intel P9600 and wondering if it will work in the xps m1730? before i take apart the system i would like to know if it will work.
