Well i finally decided that i should give this a try after seeing my temps creep up by about 1 degreeC per week. I just ordered some Arctic Silver 5. Ive looked at all the thermal paste topics here and still have a few questions. Firstly, what exactly is the thermal pad and do i have to worry about it? I saw that some people had to remove the pad but when i read through
http://www.robertbromfield.com/Tutor...he%20M1530.pdf tutorial i didnt see anything about taking off or replacing a thermal pad.
Secondly, when applying the thermal paste, do i want to cover the whole "black square" of the cpu/gpu with a thin layer?
And lastly, i heard that this may void your warranty. I was wondering, if i did break my lappy somehow, couldnt i just clean it off so that when the tech guy comes i just claim that i never even opened it up?
I found this (http://www.blogsdna.com/805/how-to-c...ell-laptop.htm) and i was wondering if there was some way to do this on an m1530 or if that technique works on a 1530..

Does anyone know how difficult it is to physically replace the CPU. I've built desktop computers and the cpu install is not an issue. Never done it on a laptop.

How easy/diificult to add RAM and what is the typical cost ?
out of the blue connecting to a server takes about 20-30 seconds. This problem remains, also the connections close by themselves. When I boot linux on this machine there is no problem. Other machines on the network have no problems. Connecting to these other machines with this laptop show the same results ->slow connection, difficult browsing. (the domain controller is a slack box - no machine restrictions are in order)
-Firewall is down for the occasion but no effect.
-There were no recent updates.
-It doesn't matter what interface I use wireless or Ethernet.
My guess is problem with samba. Restarting samba or restarting osx have no effect. Resolve.conf shows the right info and HTTP traffic is normal.
I find reinstalling is no option. I want to know the problem and if there are more users with the same problem.
OS: OSX 10.5.6
Will changing the voltage on the 7900gtx to 1.32v make any difference?
I noticed a few people here and there have done this.
what would be the benefit?
would it be more stable? or be able to clock higher?
I recently bought the XPS M1330 from a friend and wasn't familiar with the current issues caused by the nVidia GeForce 8400M GS. Lately, I've been looking for a solution to the problem...
I was reading about the Cooper Mod in another thread and it just seems like a temporary fix...
So, I was wondering has anyone tried manually installing the Intel version of the motherboard, since it seems to have no overheating problems. Has anyone tried a different motherboard to fix the overheating?
I am not able any longer to change the brigntness of the display via the known keys if the light sensor is deactivated.
If the light sensor is activated I can adjust the brightness but I do not like the sensor.
I can change the brightness without the sensor when I am in the BIOS and during windows is booting.
My system: Precision M4500 with Windows 7 Professional X64
.
The problem also occours with a fresh and pure Windows 7 Installation ..
has a Dell Studio 15 (like mine) that came with a wireless G adapter but she wants to get an N router and wants to try a N wireless adapter also.
The Dell 1510 seems to be the cheapest but there are several listed, is this what she needs and are they the same?

Will it be a matter of removing a screw that holds down the card, disconnecting 2 small wires, reconnecting them and then installing software from a disc?
I have a Studio 1537 with a P8400 2.26Ghz CPU
I will be getting another Studio laptop for the mrs as we have had a refund for a bust laptop. As the Studios now come with a P8600 2.4Ghz chip as standard now i would like to swap the faster chip to my laptop.
Is this hard to do / possible? How do i remove the chip and will i need to apply any artic silver (my laptop/chip is only 2 months old).... Its been a while since i've installed a chip, last one being a 2.0Ghz Athlon
I just received my Dell M4400 and am planning to change the stock 2GB of ram to 2x2GB of G.Skill PC2-6400 DDR2-800 ram.

View 8 Replies View Related1) Will changing the processor on a dell xps 1330 void the warranty? Just checking, by mobo is fried, and they're coming out to replace it.
Just want to make sure that I didn't screw myself by upgrading the processor (processor had nothing to do with it, upgraded over six months ago).
2) dell told me that there is a "known problem" with Nvidia cards frying the dell.
Is there anyway to change the dpi / magnification settings in Windows 7 without having to log off and back on or restart the machine?
I'm looking at a Studio 1557 laptop as a desktop replacement with a 1080p (1920 X 1080) screen which I think will make the text and icons quite small.
I can easily change the DPI to 120 (125%) or 144 (150%) and make everything readable which is great however when it's at a desk it's going to be connected to two 20 inch plus monitors and these require the normal 96dpi (100%).
The problem is the machine will be frequently connected and disconnected and having to close and reopen all applications to restart the machine properly is a real pain.
Windows XP used to warn you about having to restart but if you didn't things were still resized. With Win 7 nothing happens until you do.
I just bought a Latitude E6500 with a WUXGA LCD with Nvidia NVS 160M to replace my old Inspiron 8600 also with WUXGA screen.
I am puzzled with one thing : with my old 8600 I was able to change resolution from 1920X1200 way back to 800X600 without any loss of quality. The screen always ramained crisp and clear.
Now, with my new E6500, anything less than 1920 X 1200 gets fuzzy. I read all about the "native resolution" speach, but what I can't understand is why the old laptop was able to show all resolutions properly, and the new on doesn't.
I have a Inspiron 6400 laptop which has a tru life screen, but it's the shiny type that is more of a mirror than a monitor
I've just upgraded to a latitude 6500 and the wife is having mine but hates the screen, so I need to get a matt finish one..... I guess cheapest place is eBay???
I also want the new screen tosupport a higher resolution, would this mean I need a new gfx card, as I'm sure it uses a intel one built into mobo ....
I was thinking of changing my thermal paste on my CPU and GPU chipset, many ppl out there saying this would void the warranty and hell yeah it will, but the question is, will DELL engineer would be able to differentiate between stock silicone paste and new thermal paste (for my case is Coolermaster Nanofusion), anyone ever get busted by modding XPS?
Unless you change the obvious purple/pink thermal pad at the ACPI chipset to copper sheet then it's a totally different story.
I'm currently wondering how easy (or even if its possible) changing the processor in a studio 15 would be.
Secondly i'm curious as to expensive a new processor would cost, 2.5GHz preferably as my current processor is 2.0GHz.
My second question is: Can the graphics card be changed without soldering in the studio 15. I'm unsure whether the graphics card is integrated or not.
My current graphics card is: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 (256mb)
I was wondering how much a new card would cost and the difficulty to replace.
I'm thinking of upgrading a CPU in my FW . Currently i have P8700 and i'am looking to buy a P9700, T9800,T9900 or even X9100.
One thing just consernes me . Will the bios recognize (notebook work ) with these processors ? P9700, T9800,T9900 i supposse would have to work fine , but i am not sure for the x9100 .
Some opinions ? Also does anyone have these processors (or p9x00, t9x00 ) and say something about their temperatures
I have 2x320gb drives in raid 0 on my covet m6400,
i have 3 partitions, c:295gb, d:298:gb, v:242mb ( dell diagnostics etc)
Question: Can i shrink the d drive to say 200gb and create another partition of 98gb without destroying the raid0 so i can install a linux os?
Can integrated graphics card be changed? I heard that it can be disabled by something called pgc-i port or something like that. is this possible with my dell laptop vostro 1540?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just replaced the motherboard in a Dell Inspiron 1440. The last step in the Dell Service Manual is to enter the correct Service Tag within BIOS. When I started it up and hit F2 and the section with the service tag could not be changed. Is there another way of changing the service tag to the correct one.

Problem is, that while I'm gaming or watching a movie, that indicator is always on top of any application i have opened, so it makes some games stutter, and if i accidentally click it, my game minimizes on the bar. Changing Studio XPS 1645 Thermal Paste(AS5) from XmDXtReMeK on Vimeo.
You need isopropyl alcohol(99% or high purity)/arctic clean solution would work too with Q-Tips to clean up the previous compound. So please have that handy guys.
Also watch this video on why I will not spread the compound but put a pea size dab of the compound and let the pressure spread it. You do not want air pockets between your cpu and heatsink, it will cause a lose of the thermal interface and wont work optimal.
