View 3 RepliesI'm still finding my way round my recently acquired D600 laptop and was wondering whether it is likely to be infra red enabled, and how I would find out.
I believe it may have been an optional extra. If it isn't, is it much of a job to add it on. My main reason would be to transfer pictures from my phone, my other alternatives being bluetooth or cable, both of which I've had a bit of trouble with.
Does anyone know how to disable the infrared sensor on an XPS 1645?
I ask as I often use the laptop while also watching a media pc and the remote control operates both the laptop as well as the media pc and it's damned annoying.
All of the items referring to the infrared receiver in the device manager can't be disabled so other than sticking a piece of tape over the sensor does anyone have any ideas?
I have got a Studio 1535 (the 1537 has the same devices/drivers) and I have just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit RTM.
I have got the same problem I had with the RC.
After 7 installation I ran Windows Update but I have a device which is not recognised: "Unknown device on Intel(R) ICH8M LPC Interface Controller".
I installed the latest Intel Chipset/Matrix Storage Manager/Wireless drivers but... no way!
The Intel(R) ICH8M LPC Interface Controller has its driver, as you can see in the screenshot (red arrow).
I tried to beam a file(less than 50kb) from my handphone. I aligned the phone's IR port and the DV7's IR port(just beside the microphone jack).. But I get no response from the DV7..
How to activate it?
I have ordered Dell S XPS16 with the below configuration:
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550(2.66GHz/1066Mhz FSB/6M L2 Cache)
Obsidian Black High Gloss Finish with Leather XPS 1640
4GB, DDR3, 1067 MHz 2 Dimm
16.0 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p FullHD RGBLED LCD W/2.0 MP
ATI Mobility RADEON M96XT (this is HD 4670 right??) - 1GB
500GB 7200RPM Free Fall SensorSeagate Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 Ultimate 64-bit
BluRay Combo Drive
Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card
56 WHr 6-cell (Will order 9 cell battery later with the 100$ gift card )
Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Internal (2.0+Enhanced Data Rate)
I plan to use the laptop mainly for Internet browsing, watching blu ray movies, some gaming. I do not plan to do any hard core gaming (some strategy and racing games like AOE, Ceaser, NFS etc.).
Please let me know what all from the below do I need to do for the heat problem (if any):
1. Undervolting CPU
2. Get Cooling Pad (I currently have Antec, but if needed I can buy Zalman NC2000)
3. Replace thermal compound .....
I just got the inspiron 14 and formatted it with xp but the driver cd i got with the computer has vista drivers only. is there any way to get drivers for this computer that work with xp?
View 8 Replies View RelatedCan anyone who owns one these share some feedback and experience with this laptop?
This laptop seems to be the only one on the dell site that is ~$1000 with a good graphics card and portable (14" or lower).
i had to reinstall XP OS on my XPS M1530 machine. the previous nVidia driver(which was working perfectly b4 reinstalling) seems not working well as i have got couple of times BSOD problem.
then i have tried three different version which r 180.84,185.85_notebook_winxp_32bit_whql, 186.18_desktop_winxp_32bit_english_whql. none of them r good cause i can defference the video quality of the movies.
presently i reverse back to the nvidia_gfgo_17637_xp32, it seems bit better than those others but still i m not happy with the video quality.
Was wondering if any of the programmers out there could crack the M6300 bios so it would blind flash a M1710. I have a video card here from an M6300 and an M1710 that I would be willing to brick and RMA if it doesnt work.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi'd like to install Windows 7 on my Studio 1735.
Questions are:
- Do i have to install the, quite old, Dell Notebook System Software driver?
- Do i have to install the (Vista) Chipset drivers from the Dell Download page or can i download the newer ones from Intel.com? If yes to the latter, which one do i need?
- What about the ATI HD 3650 Video drivers, should i use the , old, ones'from the Dell Download page or can i find newer ones from ATI?
- can i just use the drivers delivered with Win 7 only and use Windows update for some uninstalled devices?
Unfortunately, Dell only provides Vista drivers, there will be no Win7 for the 1735.
What are your experiences on installing Win7 on a Studio 17(35), by the way?
its burning but in this step stopped ............
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently took advantage of a 20% off coupon for computers from the Dell Outlet.
I ordered a Studio XPS 1640 that included a 128GB solid state hard drive.
Shortly after the computer arrived I started having weird problems. At first I thought it was because I had installed the Windows 7 RC, but eventually I tried re-installing Vista and the same problems were happening (in other words, I spent a lot of time on this). I began to suspect a hard drive problem.
Finally, I called Dell support and while I was on the phone (for over an hour) the hard drive failed. OK...that was Monday and she sent me a replacement hard drive that arrived yesterday.
I installed the new hard drive and the first thing I did was go into the BIOS and it recognized the hard drive, so all was good so far. Next I went into the diagnostic and it came up with a hard drive error. I called Dell and after trying some diagnostics and re-seating the hard drive it was clear that the hard drive wasn't working - it was no longer even showing up in the BIOS .....
I'm in Need of Display drivers for Dell Vostro1500, Recently I upgraded my laptop to Windows7, let me know where should I get the drivers or send me the link I'm going to download the same from that link.

Are there drivers or software that are needed for the Touch-Sensitive Multimedia Controls? I re-installed Windows 7 (for a cleaner start!).All of the Touch-Sensitive keys work but the CD/DVD eject.... will only work as Laptop is booting (but not in Windows).Other programs in Windows will eject the CD..
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been running my dv6700t notebook with clean install and without installing HP quicklaunch and quicktouch for almost a yr now. My blue buttons (volume, mute, media play back) are working just fine even without these installed (I have not installed quickplay, so I dont need buttons for quickplay to be working anyway). I dont care about display or sound feedback that comes up while increasing volume. So is there any other reason for these to be installed?
Only thing that I wish from these would be if they would let me increase/decrease volume quicker using blue vol. buttons. Right now it takes about 14 seconds to go from zero volume to full volume or viceversa if I constantly keep touching blue-lit vol. buttons. I like how my friends dv4t's volume zips to full from zero when he touches the same buttons. Is there any current version of these softwares that would let me do that on my dv6700t?
I keep getting a message to update to 8.1 and when I entered my product number it said HP doesn't even recognize this computer. I am not too tech savvy, and this I got this for xmas and I am constantly getting the red mark. I have the HP ENVY 15 Notebook, I have no CD ROM so there is no CD resource or reinstall any of my installed CD programs without my backup.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Touchsmart 15-j040us notebook that is now a little over a year old (now out of warranty). My laptop has been asking to upgrade to Windows 8.1 since the first week or two after I purchased the system brand new.
Â
The update downloads just fine and begins the install but fails every time when it is trying to install the different devices. At that point the screen goes black, the laptop reboots and I get an error message saying that update did not work and that the system has been restored to its previous condition.
Â
After working through HP tech support, including sending the laptop to them to reimage, I am still unable to perform the update, which means my laptop is incapable of running the apps and programs that HP says my laptop is ready to run.
Â
I am fairly confident that the issue is the Nvidia video driver. The currently supported version (version 9.xxx)Â of the driver is not compatible with 8.1. HP has a driver listed that is compatible with 8.1 (version 10.xxx), but I can't download it until my laptop is running 8.1. Nvidia has posted on the site a driver that is compatible with both operating systems, but I can't seem to download and install it so that I can perform the update. How to download the driver from Nvidia so that I can perform this update?
I'm installing x64 XP Pro on my system (check my sig) after using x86 XP pro for many odd years. I was hoping I could get some help cultivating all the x64 bit compatible drivers for my system because this is a large undertaking, and all my drivers I have backed up to flash drive are for my current 32-bit system, so this is overwhelming to me......
I was hoping I could just get some help from the community retrieving OEM drivers (not Dell drivers) for my system. I want everything up-to-date, including RAID matrix manager and chipset drivers....
i have 2 problems with my m1730, one the keyboard lights stopped working, is it driven by a driver or something or what? my 2nd problem is device manager is telling me i have an unknown pci device and is always asking me for driver software. windows has directed me to nvidia for the driver. i know it is the physx processor but the physx control panel says no physx processor installed.
