I am getting a new hard drive now, nut I lost the Original Recovery CD so I cannot install the Windows XP Home Edition ...
Does anyone have an ISO copy of it? Is it easy to install?
I don't want to install pirate copy on it.
I upgraded the system OS from XP to Vista. Everything seems fine, but there is an error logged in the Event Viewer on every boot.....
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a dell inspiron 600m laptop and my screen is dimmed out. If I turn of my laptop and restart it, the display will come on for a second ( but it is a little bit reddish) and then I hear a noise and it light goes off, and I can;t see anymore. However, I am sure the computer is still running properly
I am sure that the computer is on, and is functioning properly for two reasons:
1- if it is sunny, i can see my desktop, and what ever I have open, be that a browser, a word document, so on and so forth
2-when i connect my laptop to an external display everything is fine...
My new 600m is not responsible after hibernation. I can do nothing except holding the power switch for 7 sec to shut it off and restart it again. What configuration need to be looked at (I presume this is not as usual), I am new to laptops
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been in search of several of the gray rubber buttons that goes around the screen on the 600m, just need the round half circle ones and can't seem to find them anywhere
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to recover my Dell Inspiron 600m administrator password. I called Dell and their advice was to buy a new hard drive. I can log on with my user name and I can get email....but at a snail's pace. I am unable to do maintenance or download updates without that administrator password.
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy laptop's USB ports are no longer working. I believe that some internal circuitry got fried after I plugged in a USB powered device that had its own power supply. I don't remember exactly what I did because it was while ago. I still like to use the laptop, but without USB its uses are quite limited.
When I plug in a device, nothing happens. It is neither powered nor recognized. All USB ports are affected.
I brought my Inspiron 600m back to life and did a fresh install of Windows XP SP2. After that I began installing drivers for it from Dell.com at the following link.
[URL] ....
Now there wasn't any  drivers that other recommended like chipset/system drivers available when searching by service tag. However if you search by model (600m) a lot more come up. Im not sure if I should download any of them.
My problem is it cannot connect to the internet and the ethernet port is dead. I have no error messages. I tried LANÂ connections using an ethernet cable to another machine and it does not take.
I am running Intel PROSet/Wireless and it does see nearby networks but cannot connect. It says configuration failed. I have read all the usual documents for troubleshooting but no solution yet. I have heard there where some flaws with this model and some of the equipment.Â
I turn my laptop on and the screen is dim but I can see everything fine it works fine but then I plug in the power and the screen brightens up to normal then 3 seconds later it goes blank everythin in the back round is still running everything is fine but I can't do anything because the screen is blank. So I usually have to turn it off and let the battery charge all the way which it does and that works fine. So then I can start it up on the battery working fine but as soon as I go to charge it while its on the screen goes blank...
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy hdd crapped out and I'm replacing it - I am toying with the idea of upping my memory as well. Current memory:
DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 256, 333, 32X64, 8K, 200
I am looking at one stick of:
Transcend 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 266 (PC 2100) Notebook Memory Model TS128MSD64V6A - Retail
I mainly use office and surf the net.
PROCESSOR, 80535, 1.5G, 1M, PENTIUM M BANIAS, PLASTIC GRID ARRAY, INSPIRON
1) Given my usage and proc, is adding 1gb overkill?
2) Is there any advantage to getting 2 new sticks of 512, rather than one new stick of 1gb and 1 old stick of 128mb?
3) Is there any advantage to getting higher-speed ram (PC>2100)?
My SMC PCMCIA adapter died a few days ago, and I'm really tired of dragging the cable with me as I move around the house. I can get a mini PCI wireless card from eBay [url]. It doesn't look like there's an installation CD in the eBay listing. Will I need a driver for it? What driver would I use? Also, is the antenna built into the card or would I need to add that? If I have to keep buying things to add wireless to this laptop, I'll just stick to USB, although I'd rather not tie up a USB port.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI had to replace the hard drive and formatted it with XP, now the built in Intel wifi adapter does not work (also the sound card is not working).
I am sure it is a driver problem, but am having trouble finding the correct one from Dell
First post here...
Here's the deal, my 600m won't charge the battery anymore and will not run off of the power cord.
The power cord is showing 19.5v which is correct.
The back of the power adapter jack on the mobo is showing about 3.5v when plugged in and the two outside pins that charge the battery are only showing about 0.02v. Is this normal voltage or do you think the mobo broken?
I'm not really sure which of the battery charging pins to check the voltage from and can't find a diagram of it anywhere.
I have tried to put it in but there is a 1/4 in pin in the way. Is there a way to remove with out any harm. My Inspiron 9400 video card is having problems.
I have tried the 400 deg for 10 min but it did not last
Here are some quick pics and a youtube video at the bottom.

Guide to Switching your Inspiron 9300/M170 WUXGA into the Inspiron 9400/M1710:
You can't simply replace the display screens. The instructions below must be followed for your screen to work properly.
Required Materials:
- Small Phillips (I used #0 Phillips)
- Either 2 monitors (9400 and 9300) or part #YPNL-N017B (Google the # to buy it).
Step 1: Remove the display assembly. Dell has an excellent guide for this on their website.
[url] Click on Display)
Step 2: Remove the LCD Bezel (the gray trim around the screen). This requires removing the screws under the circular pads. I used a small flathead to pry open the bezel.
Step 3: Remove the 8 screws around the sides of the LCD. This will make it so your screen can be taken out. Do not worry about any screws on the top, they are for other things.
Step 4: At the bottom of the screen, there is a green circuit board. On the left side, you will see a screw holding the wire down. Remove this.
Step 5: Remove the LCD screen from the case.
Step 6: Look at the bottom circuit board again. This is the board we need to swap! Disconnect the 2 connections on the board. There should be on on the bottom and one on the side that is white.
Step 7: There will be 3 silver screws holding the circuit to the screen. Remove these screws. Note: This requires a very small phillips. I used a #0 Phillips to do the trick.
Step 8: Repeat steps 1-7 for your other monitor OR if you don't have another monitor...you will need to buy an inverter chip. The mfg # is YPNL-N017B. If you google that number, you should find a bunch of sites willing to sell it.
Step 9: Simply swap the bottom circuit boards between monitors or insert the new one that you bought.
Step 10: Follow steps 1-7 in reverse to reconnect everything back up! Before screwing everything back up. I suggest you plug it in first to test it out.
Congratulations. Your WUXGA LCD will now work properly on the Inspiron 9400. For anyone wondering, you MUST replace the bottom circuit board or the brightness controls will not work. You brightness will be stuck at the lowest setting and nearly impossible to see.
Any owners yet? I'd love to get some reviews.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am looking into replacing my old Dell Inspiron 6400, as it has been excellent -I think I should buy another Dell!
I am looking at the new Inspiron 15, which has a 15.6" display.
Can anyone tell me whether the actual laptop itself is bigger or smaller than my current 6400? I am interested in knowing width.
I see a lot of dead space on my 6400, and hopefully Dell realized this, and instead of making another 15.4" with dead space, they made use of this and gave a better display!
The processor of the mini laptop is atom N450, i want to know can i install windows server 2003 32 or and 64 bit os on this machine.

and it says:
"Noise
The Inspiron 15 is fairly quiet, though at times the fans did get a bit noisy. Basically you won’t hear this notebook at all in an environment with ambient noise, but if you’re in a library like quiet environment you might bother those nearby with some fan noise."

I am in the process of buying the new Dell Inspiron 15. I just want to know if i have made the right choice. It seems to be a really good laptop and i have seen some very positive comments within some review's on Youtube.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering if anyone had bought or used the new Dell Inspiron 11z?
Now available in the UK, seems nicely specced and thinking about buying one as a more powerful alternative to a netbook.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI m looking forward to buy a notebook either Inspiron or XPS.
I m unable to find out the difference between the two streams of notebook.
The inspiron is cheaper while the XPS is more expensive one.
I will be using the notebook for programming and data processing via oracle, .net, etc.
Note: I m not going to use the notebook for gaming.
Kindly guide to buy the best stream of notebook suitable for me.
I got a phone status update a couple of days ago that said it was supposed to ship by Nov 5th (tomorrow). Normally when I order stuff from Dell, it shows up a lot sooner, but I guess the 11z is a hot item so it's taking longer.
I ordered mine pretty decked out... I got the dual-core Pentium CPU, 320 gig hard drive, Wireless N card, etc. I'll probably still stick a 500 gig drive in it and use the 320 as an external.
I recently looked to purchase another hard drive for my wifes inspiron 17 1720 and found that the hard drive came without a connector so some sort, it appears the dell needs a special connector to connect to the sata hdd. i looked at the 1st hdd and it has this connector, i contact dell and they didnt know what i was talking about
