View 9 RepliesI, being one of the multitudes of sad souls who are now experienceing the end of thier 7900GS's 12-16 month life span decided to look around the net to see if this really is as big a problem as I thought, and I can't belive how many people are posting that thier 7900GS is dying just a couple months after the warranty expires, it's nearly proof that the card is being cooked in our e1705/9400's to the point of failure. and fortunatly for dell, they all seem to be failing JUST outside of the warranty... mine failed just 2 months after my warranty expired.
Well I say we create a petition to send to dell to ask for a recall of these sub-par cards they sold us in our very expensive new laptops. The worst part is now that thier cards are failing they are charging 400 dollars just for the part!!! It's criminal and we must do something.
Please post here if you'd like to add your name and or story to the many already posted. I just want a single thread where we can all post about this problem so I can show dell just how bad this problem is.
I don't know if the 7900gs was made using sub-par parts or if it's the lack of the second heat pipe or both but the fact is these cards are not lasting to term in WAY too many laptops, don't wait for yours to die next post here so we can try and get dell to do something about this!
If you own one of the following laptops:

Theere isw a specific range of battery serial numbers that are being recalled by HP. If you have a bettery that matches the reported serial number range you should contact HP immediately for a replacement battery.
There looks to be an official recall of some of the timeline range. I was just about to buy one of these so im kind of annoyed.
I rang around a few retailers and acer, i wrote my findings on this blog [url]
I thought i should let people know this because if you own one of these you should get it checked out.
A statement from Acer (according to comet UK) confirms a new "refreshed" model with an updated microphone wire (the cause of the problem).
how long its taking for people to get their recall work completed? Mine arrived in TX for the mic cable recall repair.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got a Dell Precision M4300 from a friend and had a few questions.
When i got the laptop, I reformatted the Laptop and Reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2. I proceeded from Microsoft to Update to SP3 and so on.
Well I also Went to Dell's Website and downloaded all the necessary drivers (using the service tag) for this laptop and installed them.
Now here is where I ran into a problem,
When I installed the NVIDIA drivers for the NVidia Quadro FX 360M video card, everything seemed to go fine. Then I rebooted the Laptop, and now every time I reboot, my hardware acceleration is defaulted back to None, and it gives me multiple pop ups about this issue. I go into the settings and turn the Acceleration back to full and it goes away.
This is a major problem, and is really frustrating to deal with everytime the laptop is booted up.
My other problem, is when I open up Internet Explorer, It tends to lock up the browser for no reason when Loading a website. I then CTRL+ALT+DEL and attempt to close iexplore.exe via the task manager. It closes the browser but does not shut down the browser, making it impossible to browse, so then I have to reboot.
here are the specs of the PC, from the device manager and drivers I have gotten
Dell Precision M4300
NVidia Quadro FX 360M 512mb Video Graphics Card
TSST 8x dvd+-R burner
120GB Hard Drive
3.5GB of Ram
2.5GHZ T9300 Core 2 Duo Processor
1394 Port
2 USB ports
External Monitor Ports
Wifi Support
Bluetooth Support
Windows XP SP2 Pro
I refreshed my colour settings under 'nVidia control panel' and now my colours look crap. Can someone plz give me your personal prefered percentage numbers of these following slide bars in 'Desktop Colour Settings'.
Brightness: %
Digital Vibrance: %
Contrast: %
Image Sharpening: %
Gamma: %
I know most you guys have LCD monitors, but just to be sure i'd like it in good colour for an LCD...
you can see here two vaio graphic cards ..
9600M GT and GT 330M
That really surprised me that 330M doesnt support DX 11
So at the moment the most powerful single card is the 8800gtx 512mb correct? It has been out for quite sometime now. I know that some 9 series cards have been released for laptops but have no where near the power of the 8800.
What current 9 series desktop card would have to be released for laptops to out power the 8800? Also when do you think the new card would be released.? I know its all kinda speculation at this point but just curious what people think as I may wanna buy a new laptop in a few months.
I Have a NVIDIA 7900GS in my Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop and AGAIN, the card has gone out on me.
This time it lasted about 8 months and coincidentally, it was a few days after i reformatted the computer.
Are there any other video cards that I could use in the computer without having to do any modifications?
Does anyone know of a place to buy a NVIDIA 7900GS or or equivalent card at a respectable price?
I recently bought a laptop and before it ships I have been looking around at how the 8400m GS performs. The video card is labeled at 128 mb but many people have been posting on forums about how they're cards are telling them they have 256mb instead of 128.
More commonly, Youtube videos are all titled 8400m GS *256*. Is the 128mb version just really uncommon? Or is it really 256 mb. I also stumbled upon something called Turbo Cache (not sure if that's the right name for it) that has the GPU use some of my systems RAM...Isn't that what integrated chipsets do?
Anyway here's my system:
XPS M1530 Laptop: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8100 (2.1GHz/800Mhz FSB, 3MB Cache)
3 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz (2 DIMMs)
320 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
128MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
If anyone knows anything about Turbo Cache or how this card performs with World of Warcraft.
I am getting service on my xps m1530 to get my 8600m gt replaced... I have heard about all of the issues nvidia is having with these and am wondering if I am going to get another bad one that will have to be replaced again or will get one that is fixed?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'd like to know if anyone sent their notebook in for repair because of the defective Nvidia GPU problem? What was your experience, how many repairs, did Dell replace the defective parts with the same and did anyone get a replacement?
I've got the Vostro 1400 and I'm headed down that road. Would like to hear how it went for anyone with any of the other affected models also.
I just bought a used XPS M1330 w/ Nvidia 8400 for a really good price. It has 2 more years of complete care warranty. I game very rarely. Should I be worry about the GPU failure?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am thinking about buying a used XPS M1530 with an Nvidia GPU card. I don't really see any threads of it burning out/Nvidia flaw like the M1330's. Does this happen with the Nvidia cards on the M1530?
View 7 Replies View RelatedProbably stupid question, but is it possible to install a nVidia chip into the SXPS 16?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am in search of the driver number in the title. It came factory preinstalled from dell and I had the installation files on disk, but accidentally deleted them, defragged, and now they're gone (save for if Power Data Recovery can recover them, Recuva already failed at that ).
Does anybody still have these babies? I ordered my laptop the first of October in Europe, so anyone that has ordered or received their laptop in around now should have these installed. They said they were revision A08, but it's nowhere to be found.
These are the only current drivers that would allow hybrid sli stuff to work, so I really need those. They came with a NVDJ.inf and WHQL certificate. I believe the driver date was around 26/06/2009, and I have scoured the dell ftp site for anything released around that date or later, but found nothing. Also laptopvideo2go doesn't have them. Currently running the NVIDIA notebook drivers, but they don't support the hybrid thing.
Has anyone tried the new nvidia driver? If so any problems or suggestions.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to buy a Go 7800 GTX to go into my Dell XPS gen 2 notebook. I can't find them anywhere. The only one is some guy on ebay who wants $360 +shipping. I know I can get a better price than that, but where?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI am thinking about buying a new XPS M1330 with Nvidia card(can't be intel, must be Nvidia for me). But I have read so many reports on the GPU going out and the motherboard being replaced over and over(per a user). My question is, if I bought a new one would mine have this potential flaw or did they fix this iwith a re-design? Or is this issue not as big as it seems?
View 13 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know which is the latest driver (working ) for 8600 GT. I'd really like to update. I tried 181.20 and 22. In unmodified ini "setup could not find any compatible hardware". In modified ini dll files were missing.
And also another thing. All the time when i play games the laptop just shutsdown like it didnt had a power but its on AC. when it boots no errors shows. Maybe i'll try the 179.28 to see. In Vista this never happened!
Just wanted to see how many people have had the Vostro 1500 and had their GPU burn out. Also how you dealt with it. I'm currently fighting with Dell tech support as they believe that every laptop line they have with the 8xxx series Nvidia card is affected but the Vostro 1500? That is just not logical especially with other OEM using Nvidia GPU having the same issue.
View 10 Replies View Relatedwondering if people have still run into issues with the M1330 with just the Intel X3100 card (overheating, motherboard, etc)? I really liked the XPS due to its looks and portability and wanted to hear people's opinions on purchasing this product with some features (such as 4 GB RAM, 250/320 GB HD, X3100 card, standard display, Core 2 Duo T8100) as I pretty much just use it for Internet, word processing, music, and watching occasional movies...I'm really in it for the portability factor as I occasionally lug my laptop around and use it in class (being a graduate student), but not every single day.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron E1705, Core 2 dou, 2 GB Ram, Very powerful laptop. I have an ATI Video card in it that I've been trying hard to upgrade to a Geforce. I bought 6 till with no luck at all, I bought all of them off ebay, the last one was a couple days ago, when I got it, I installed it and everything was working perfectly, I was so happy cuz this is the first one that actually works, after 1 hour of using it, red flickers started appearing on the screen, I restarted, tried different drivers, tried placing it again.. no luck at all . Now I have different colored lines and blinking pixels all over the screen, the background changes colors.. yellow, red, green.. and its not just on windows.. Bios, safe mode, everywhere.. I put my old ATI back and everything is working fine. I'm planning to send it back again to the seller, I attached some pics. I have a 90 w adapter but I dont think its a heating or power problems.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have both the machines mentioned above, and am considering getting the Nvidia 3d bundle.
Can anyone answer the following questions:
1) Do I have to run Vista?
My XPS is running XP, and a quick check shows that only the 32-bit SLI drivers for the 8800s are available: No 64 bit versions on the Dell site.
2) Will SLIed cards still work?
3) My M6400 has Vista 64, but will the 3D work with a Quadro card?
I attach a capture of M4400 configurator on Dell Spanish website.
As you can see, I have 3 options on Graphic Card:
- Nvidia FX770M
- Nvidia FX1700M
- Nvidia FX7700M??
so tomorrow my friend will put his laptop together, (he will get the ati 3670 card, he could get the 4670 (if he paid some extra money) but he is not some super-gamer and said he could live with 3670 without any problem.
i knew that ati 3670 512mb and nvidia 9600M gt 512mb was pretty similar, but ati 3670 performs actaully better, (quite much better).
x32 version here http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce...5.81_beta.html
x64 version here http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce...5.81_beta.html
There also new drivers available for Windows 7 (x32/x64)
I have a few questions to ask those who have this laptop.
I currently have a 1330, and I am experiencing the dreaded nvidia GPU error and I have an engineer visiting me on Friday to replace the motherboard. I do not think this will fix it, as I have seen others who have had to have multiple replacements.
Therefore, I am thinking of getting a new laptop, and love the look of the Studio 13.
Can you confirm the following:
1) The Studio XPS 13 is not affected by the nvidia faulty chips?
2) I experiencing "popping" during audio playback which is not resolveable, something again to do to with hardware. Does this laptop suffer the same?
3) To your knowledge, are there any design flaws or problems with this model? I don't want go to through the same again
