Apr 2, 2009I have a dell studio 1537. Sometimes when my fan kicks on, it makes wierd grinding sound.
checked for dust but its pretty clean. I have had this laptop since December 20. 2008..

Jun 5, 2009i get wierd sound when i unplug my laptop from power the sound is like tq the sound keeps coming randomly about 15 sec. the sound keep coming even mute the speakers it started to happen after i formatted my laptop.

Mar 22, 2009first off my studio 1537 is 3 months old, so i cant return it. Secondly, when i plug in my laptop at around 70-90 percent it makes a wierd sound. So i unpluged the battery and the sound is gone. Is it a bad battery?

Jan 13, 2010I have had my HP HDX16 for almost a year, probably 10 months. I can still send it in for repairs because the warranty is still in place.
Recently the fan has started to make some funny noise and it sounds more like a grinding sound that is subtle but still noticable. I was thinking of sending it in for repair, but when I sent my computer in last time they formatted everything just to replace the screen when I told them not to, so I really would just see if I can repair the issue myself and save myself the trouble of having to reinstall and download everything again.
How easy will it be to take off the bottom to get to the fan? I already blew air into and that made it go from loud to subtle, but it seems like it might be grinding against something or hitting something. Sometime if I tap on the area to the top left of the power button it will stop it for a couple of minutes.

Feb 10, 2010So a few days ago, my computer just all of a sudden began making a
strange "grinding/crunching" sound which seems to be coming from the top left side of the computer. The sound is very clear especially from the back left corner vent. The noise seems to come and go but still has me very worried. I've read this noise may indicate a dieing hard drive, however tests came by negative and also the hard drive for this notebook is in the middle, not toward the top left. Anyway, I recorded the sound twice and was wondering if you could take a look and tell me what you guys think (you might wanna turn your volume up). I have an HP Dv7t

Dec 21, 2009I just setup my brand new M6400 (well brand new from dell outlet). My config is QX9300, Dual HardDrives (primary is SSD), Nvidia 2700. I connected two external monitors using ePort plus dock and as I begin working on this new setup,
I notice a faint (but irritating once your ears tune in) churning/hissing/clicking (hard to describe) sound from the system. I have updated Bios to latest version. Os is Win 7 64bit.
Dell :: Wierd Wireless
Oct 22, 2007Activating radio on my atheros AR5005g and connecting to the home network
causes 60 to 90 % cpu usage all the time.
The problem is I can't find the process that's causing it.
task manager doesn't show any processes using that much cpu.
Specs: Celeron M 1.4, 1 GB ram, Win xp Pro.
No viruses found, different drivers tried but no luck.
Dell :: Far Left Fan Making Grinding Noises
Nov 20, 2009Whenever I'm viewing the smallest things, like images or even streaming on youtube. The far left fan goes into gear -- but it sounds like it's hitting a wire, making a loud and obnoxious grinding sound.
And recently my computer would go at 100% CPU Usage, requiring me to restart a couple of times until it became neutral.
Any ideas other than opening the computer?
I'm using an Inspiron 1520. It's 2 years old.
Dell :: Wierd Lan- Displaying Cable Not Connected
Jun 11, 2009I own a Studio 1555 and i am having this peculiar problem with my onboard LAN connection. The LAN cable is connected to the NIC, yet it is displaying cable not connected. I need to reconnect the cable (remove it from the NIC and reconnect it) and it displays cable is connected and the connection ensues. Once i restart the machine, the same is displayed and i will have to reconnect the cable once again in order to get connected.
I do not want to reconnect the cable every now and then, when i reboot the laptop..
Dell :: Switched My CPU, Having Wierd Temp Problems (m1530)
Dec 14, 2009So I used to have a T8785 or whatever it was, 2.0 ghz dual core, and i upgraded to a T9500 2.6 ghz.
Although ever since i installed it, on my CPUID hardware monitor the temps are wildly different per core (at core #0 is 40 and the other is 48 celcius). After awhile the fan stops running, the temps stay the same, increase a little bit perhaps 1-2 degrees (at idle),
and then all of a sudden the values will shoot up to 75-80, the fan will turn on, and they will teleport right down to 50 again, and the fan will stay on for awhile again, then it will rinse and repeat.
HP/Compaq :: DV4t DVD Drive Grinding Noise
Oct 21, 2009i have a DVD+CD writer/reader in my laptop. I barely ever use it but i wanted to back up my iTunes library to a couple of DVDs this morning so i used Nero to do so. At 91% the drive started doing this thing where it would spin really quick, stop, start, make an awful grinding noise for a second, then repeat the same thing over again. After about 10 min of this, the CPU went up to 100% and slowed the computer down to the point where everything froze. So i tried ejecting the DVD but it didn't work so i used a pin to force it open. I tried 3 times on 3 DVDs with no luck..It did however burn a CD successfully which is weird.
I just tried burning another DVD and it stopped at 91% and started the grinding noise again then said the burning failed.
Acer :: Screen- Wierd/white'ish
Apr 16, 2009The other day my daughter clicked off the internet, and shut the laptop. I have the laptop set so if you close the lid it shuts down instead of "going to sleep". When I tried to turn the laptop back on I got the Acer screen, and then it went wierd/white'ish and I held the power button to shut it down so I could restart. When I tried to restart I got the "safe mode" restart screen. When I procceded past that I got a black/blue screen. Shut it down again with the power button. Now everytime I try to restart the laptop the LEDs light up, the fan kicks on, and the HD clicks and the laptop powers off. Then it will restart on it's own. LEDs come on, fan starts, and HD clicks and shuts off. It will do this as long as you sit there and let it. Doesn't matter if it's on battery power, or plugged in. I removed the battery and let it sit over night, reinstalled, and that exact same thing happens...

Sep 15, 2007Bougth a Acer Aspire 5520 couple of weeks ago, tried to install XP on it, thing crashed. Back on normal Vista (not from recovery) and installed the Nvidia driver(101.54 / 32 bit) which comes wit the acer website and the Nforce driver for network connction etc. Got a Gforce 8400M G with a AMD Turion64 X2(1.8 Ghz)
Now when i try gaming on this thing it's totally wack. Installed Counter-strike and World of warcraft, and both run not good... It's just lagging a lot, not internet lag, graphics lag. I tried downloading some other drivers, but no one seems to be working, mostly getting the message: 'u need a Vista 64 bit for this driver, and u have a Vista 64bit' or 'the hardware for this driver cannot be found'. No idea what to do to fix this problem according to drivers... could be really simple.

Jan 10, 2010i have got vaio fz140 eb model which came with windows vista home premium and 200 gb disk.
i have installed western digital 500 gb disk drive which was running fantastic till 4 days.i have installed windows 7 home premium family pack on this system.
issue i am facing is weird.few days ago i copied few GB of data from western digital portable drive of my senior.while copying data,it was scanned by Kaspersky internet security which found some 70 virus .it managed to fix them all.it was fat32 formatted drive.
now problem is my laptop becomes unresponsive for long duration.then only thing i can do is forced shutdown.after restart.it does chkdisk and says fixing this fixing that.
but problem is still their.what i realised is it was giving errors on some perticular file.
i ran western digital life tools to diagnose this drive.it says SMART test pass but it says this error........
HP Pavilion N229tx :: Grinding Noise Every 3 Sec At Left Side Of Laptop
Aug 25, 2014I just bought an HP touchsmart pavilion N229tx last week and I noticed now that it started creating grinding noises every 3 seconds whenever my laptop is on and running. The noise is coming from near the vent where the air is supposed to come out.
Also when I bought the laptop and opened it the first time I keep having the fan error upon startup saying that it had found that a fan is not operational I think it is error 90B. this now happens everytime I turn on the laptop.

Oct 2, 2008ive just re-installed vista home premium on my acer travelmate 5320 but now the led for the wireless is reversed, so when the wifi is on the led is off and vice versa does anyone have any ideas whatsoever as i am at a loss with this one.

Oct 1, 2009I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with 8600GT. I wanted to buy a 5.1 speaker set but it would be of no use as 1520 does not have 3 audio jacks while the 1525 and XPS 1530 has 5.1 output.
I was just wondering, if it was possible to somehow get an extra audio jack outside the laptop by checking if a header pin for a third audio jack exists on the motherboard since the audio chip is HD audio and motherboard design would be similar to 1525 and XPS 1530
I lot of people have openend up their systems and taken a look at the audio circuitry to fix the static noise coming from the headphone jacks. Did anyone notice if a third audio jack could be soldered to the motherboard to get 5.1 audio.

and now the touch controls for audio volume etc stopped working as well how do you turn them on and off? is there a setting somewhere that i touched?

Jul 16, 2014Okay, well the day before yesterday I was trying to watch Youtube but when I clicked on a video it had no sound. I thought it was Youtube, so I exited the site and thought I'd wait a little bit. So then I went to Spotify to listen to some music. I kept clicking and clicking and nothing was happening. Then I noticed a blue notice at the top that said something about my soundcard not working properly.
I then checked everything on my computer to see if it had sound. Windows Media Player...no, videos on Facebook...nope, nothing was working. At first I thought it was my daughter. I let her watch Youtube when she lays down for a nap. I came in the other day and she was hitting all kinds of buttons on my computer. I stopped her though and everything seemed fine. I also remember my computer updating that day. Could it be that something went wrong with the update? I don't know if that's possible or not.
And also, what is a soundcard. Do I have to buy it or do I download it???
I went to Yahoo answers and someone said to uninstall the drivers. I did that and then reinstalled them and it worked. The rest of that day I had sound on everything except for Facebook. Yesterday night it happened again and the sound has not returned since but my computer sounds are still working. When I logged on the computer made the log in sound it usually makes. I also tried to listen to a video with headphones and it still did not work. Again, I uninstalled the drivers and then re installed them and got nothing.

Dec 12, 2009I have a Sony VGN-Z36GD. I am having problems with my sound. When I try and record something all I get is a hissing sound when I play it back. When I use Skype I can hear the person I am talking to but they cannot hear me. My laptop says everything is working yet it is not.

Jun 11, 2009I had been thinking of getting a Latitude E5500, I've had Dell's for years at work and always liked the added robustness and lack of bloatware on Latitudes.
Lately though I have gotten into converting my vinyl to digital and plan to do a lot more sound oriented things.
Do any Dells have an upgraded sound card, or is it all software driven?
Any other thoughts given my "new" interest in music?
Dell :: M1730 Sound
Nov 7, 2009I'm not sure what the problem is with my M1730, however I'm having problems using Sigmatel Drivers, and I wanna use them because I wanna take full advantage of having Dual Audio.
But currently I'm having problems trying to get my dual audio jacks to work. One would obviously say go to the dell website and download the drivers and install and there shouldn't be a problem.
Well..... it's not that simple because for some reason there is only one audio drivers found there, and that one audio driver doesn't seem to properly install on my system for whatever reason.
I'm running 64-bit Windows Vista and I have no clue as to what my issue is to get this to work.
