HP/Compaq :: Armada 6500 HDD
Jun 20, 2009
a friend recently gave me his old compaq armada 6500 and it has everything that came with it apart from the HDD, i just wanted to ask what type of HDD would i need, and where does it go? as the few laptops that ive upgraded have had HDD's which you slide out from the side, and as far as i can see on this laptop it only has the multi bay for the cd-rom drive etc, and 2 pc card slots, could anyone help with this? or is it too old to even bother about?

I am thinking about getting either the M1550 or M1330. I've read all kinds of online reviews, looked at specs, etc., ad nauseum.
What I am looking for in this post is USER OPINIONS from those of you who actually own any of these laptops and have used them for a while now.
Basically, I want to use it for entertainment (cd/dvd burning, movies, iTunes), productivity, net surfing, and some occasional gaming (desktop covers that base for me).

My laptop's fan WILL NOT turn off. Its spinning at blow dryer speeds all the time.
Initially I thought I had a lemon with some heat issues, so I returned it and DELL sent me a new one. I received it today and it has the same problem as the one before.
Apparently this laptop runs super hot when in the docking station-the reason being, I have no clue.
im worried that the internals are going to overheat cuz this fan is blowing out really hot air.
When I use it on the go or anywhere outside of the docking station-no fan problems.
Would hate to lose my docking station/external monitor...

I just received my new Latitude 6500. Build seems good but the display seems a bit washed out.
It's my first laptop so maybe it's just me getting accustomed to the display. I opted for the LED LCD WXGA+.
The display is very bright but the contrast doesn't seem the same as my desktop monitor.
Colors seems a bit faded, not as vibrant as I had hoped. For example, it's hard to see the unshaded boxes on the list to the left of this page--where it says "most reviewed laptops"

I just was wondering what some of you are getting in Windows 7 Index Rating.
I was having issues getting VS 2008 to work without going crazy with SearchIndexer.exe and re-installed 7 just now. Somehow my score is now a 4.1, using the same drivers ....

I'm a webdeveloper and i'm currenty searching for a new business partner laptop. I have decided on the Dell brand. I was about to pickup a macbook - but after the TONS of problems i read on Mac forums, i just won't give Steve Jobs my money ;-)
So what i would like to ask from you is the following:
Which you prefer between E 6400 and E 6500. My primary concern ofcourse is the SCREEN.
Which model and which screen option to choose.

This is not the newest topic but it's been well described that the Latitude E series' touchpad is crappy. With the launch of Windows 7, I thought that I'd give the new touchpad drivers a try. Still as crappy.
This is the worst touchpad and pointing stick that I can remember using on a laptop. Normally I wouldn't care, but actually having a terrible nav system really stinks more than I thought it would.
Well, my stop-gap solution was to simply remove the Dell touchpad drivers altogether and go native with whatever Windows 7 detected. What an amazing difference! The touchpad is usable now (it doesn't freeze and it tracks much better).....

Im trying to gauge what everyone else is experiencing when they are docking their Latitudes.
More specifically, as it relates to fan usage and general temperature.
That said, I have three questions:
1) If you own the Nvidia and you have fan issues, have you just resigned to the fact that your fan runs all the time or are you still looking for a solution?
2) If you own the Intel Graphics card, can you share your fan experience(s) when your laptop is docked?
3) Lastly, please indicate if you are using the laptop open when docked, closed with one external monitor or, two external monitors.

Does anyone have a good way to OC this laptop other than using ClockGen? I am basically wondering if there is a BIOS option. I know there are some OC guides out there, but this laptop is almost 3 years old, and as far as I can tell does not have an option in the BIOS. Also, my proc is the T2600, not the one is this review, but other than that exactly the same. I am looking to play around with this because it is old and I dont care too much if I fry it since my new hotness is on the way.

By the looks of the bottom of my laptop it seems it might be mxm compatible as there are lots of removable pieces... including one that looks alot like an mxm slot. I know that this laptop can be configured to come with the 9200m. This is a fairly brand new model but could someone tell me whether this thin is mxm compatible?

Ive just about had it with Vista on my laptop and want to try a new OS before I junk this thing. Is anyone running Win7 or Ubuntu on a HP DV5z AMD 64 bit laptop? The machine is about a year old and I have 4gb of RAM and the thing is a dog. Ive used Ubuntu in the past on Dell laptops and its a pain to get everything running wireless drivers, flash, etc. Win7 being a RC may or may not have everything up to speed on for my machine.
So, if you have Win7 or Ubuntu on a HP DV5z please give me a shout, good or bad.

Can't really see much difference in these models....looking at Best Buy
Other than 17 vs 16 inch screen are their any benefits to build quality from 1 to the other?
I will be travelling so I would prefer the lesser HDX 16 incher but build quality is a concern
I travel by plane, train, bus every weekend so it needs to be able to handle a little beating

I'm am deciding whether to buy this laptop for school use. It has a great size, stylish, and decent specs for a laptop that is so lightweight. The only turn off is that it was made for entertainment, but should this laptop do well for word processing, spreadsheets, and web surfing?
Would the 9 cell battery last for more than 5-6 hours? My budget is also under 700$ but it can stretch a little.

I'm heading off to school, and these stylish, affordable notebooks have caught my eyes. The only problem is that I only get 2-3 hours of battery life on these notebooks although I can buy an extra battery. What I"m mainly doing is word processing, spreadsheets, iTunes, and web browsing but not all at the same time.
Here are my main questions and concerns:
Do these notebooks have good build quality? Is there any other way to charge the battery without having it in the notebook?Do they get hot?
I may have more questions to ask later.
I am buying this notebook in Canada.
Seeing that the battery tests I've seen on some reviews, they are surfing the internet with Wi-Fi on. I will not be, I'll usually be word processing. Should it last maybe 3 hours?
How long does the 9 cell last on the DV3?

I own a DV7-1038CA, I actually decided to buy it after reading what people said about the DV7s on this forum. Unfortunately I have a problem .
I had opened up my DV7 to clean out the fan ( ****load of dust in there) and took the whole laptop apart. I put it back together and it worked perfectly fine for about 10 hours. The laptop worked great until I dropped it down on my table at a height of about 1 1/2 inches, not a significant height but the screen immediately turned white and the laptop shut off completely. It would not turn on at all, the power light would blink for less than a second and turn off and then I'd have to wait 30 seconds before I could get it to blink again.
I then took the laptop apart again and this time I checked if everything was plugged in properly. I decided to leave the unnecessary covers off so I could turn it on without having to screw it all back on, it turned for about 3 seconds....before I noticed the display cable to my screen was on the heat sink and had caught fire. I immediately turned it off but the damage had already been done, the fire had burnt through the wiring on the inside of the cable rendering my screen useless ( whenever it was plugged the charging light on the side of the laptop would turn off). At this point the laptop was turning on but would turn off after about 5 seconds (probably due to the fact that there was no screen) During this little fiasco I had ripped off the ZIF cable that connects the power button board to the Motherboard. So now I had no way to turn my laptop on, I ordered a new screen and a new power button board.......
