HP/Compaq :: Did I Get A Defective Battery Or I Didn't Charge It Properly
Jan 27, 2009
Got a new HP battery for my laptop and it failed the battery test from the HP Advisory program. It telling me one of the cell is not working and that I should replace it.
Did I get a defective battery or I didn't charge it properly?

I have a question regarding my Dell Vostro 1000's battery.
To start off, I did the recharge and discharge method and after that, when I disconnected the AC-Power, it only shows the "Total Battery Charge 100%" but the primary, it doesn't say anything. Plus, when it was unplugged, it stays at 100%. Few minutes later, it will drop to 7% and the Battery LED will flash orange to tell me that the battery is low.
And my Battery health is good, but why is Windows 7 not detecting the battery charge properly??
Snap-shot: [URL] ....
And there is no calibration tool in the BIOS?

I just bought a new sony laptop and when I first started it, I forgot to put in the battery and just plugged in the AC adapter. So near the end of the setup of the system language and everything, I got a blue screen saying something about a power state failure and the computer shutdown. I immediately put the battery in and turned back on the computer and after a while, it was fine. So should i be concerned if i permanently damaged the computer or anything?

I had this plugged in but no charging issue and I called, they said it was the MOBO or the AC. So the guy came today and put in a new MOBO and used a new AC, but it still won't charge.
So he called Dell and they said it had to be the battery (even though we don't get the light 1/3/5 indication on the battery meter), and that since I was out of the 1 year battery warranty I would have to pay.
Well here is the thing, I have a freaking 4 year warranty on this thing, and it is barely over a year old and the battery already failed? WTH is up with that? Also, the guy said my battery warranty expired in March, but I didn't even place the order until June and I didn't get the computer until July 18 or even later. And they won't approve my battery replacement, they said if I called before the end of July (like 2 days earlier) I would be able to. This is ridiculous.

My dv5t won't take a charge. The charge indicator light does not come on and the battery charge indicator graphic in windows doesn't show it is charging (plus the AC adapter isn't getting warm). My laptop is now out of charge and I have no way to use it. I think the connector at the PC end might be loose or something, but perhaps it is just the AC charge adapter.
The reason I say the conenctor at the laptop end might be loose it because I can wiggle the charging plug around in the socket quite a bit when it is plugged into the laptop power socket (the round socket at the rear of the right side). Sometimes the charge plug has weight on it when in my lap since the darn things sticks out so much, and I am wondering if I have caused the socket to malfunction internally (loose lead or something?).

I just bought a HP netbook for my sister for christmas and we got it all set up today fine. Only problem is that the battery (it's the extended battery - not sure how many cells) just will not charge. It has been plugged in all day so far today and it still reads as 0%, and when you unplug it, the computer will just die (because no battery power).
Granted the unit WAS an "open box" when I bought it so perhaps this is the reason it was originally returned, even though the unit looked brand new. What can I do to resolve this problem other?

I have replaced the battery. A computer repairperson has had me run the battery down and then charge it completely before I turn the computer on again. That would work sometimes. It would sometimes recharge if I unplugged it, shut off the computer, took the battery out, then replaced the battery and plugged it into the power cord. The computer had sometimes run on the power cord other times it would continue to run on the battery when it was plugged into the power cord. The computer battery has run down, even though plugged into the power cord. It will not recognize the power cord and charge. I have put the old battery into the computer and turned it on, so I know the computer will work with power. It does not charge the old battery either. I left the battery out for about 12 hours, replaced it, plugged it in and it still doesn't charge. There is not enough power in the battery to turn the computer on at this time. I would like to be able to charge it long enough to be able to get any files off the computer that haven't been backed up.

it's a dv9000.. 17" so i don't lug it around that much... it's usually plugged in so i don't drain the battery or anything often at all.. but i noticed earlier this week.. that when i did happen to use it while unplugged, when i plug it back in the taskbar icon shows that it is not charging back up again! right now it's at 44% and for the past few days has not changed at all.. i've restarted, etc.. is this a problem with my battery? a problem w/vista? something i can manually configure/fix?

I recently was given an HP dv2125nr laptop that needed a new motherboard. I purchased a new one and replaced it and the laptop was up and running. I was happy and figured that I had just salvaged a decent laptop.
When I first turned it on I noticed it wouldn't run off battery power but thought, no big deal it just needs charged. That turned out to not be the case. I went about reinstalling the operating system using the recovery partition and didn't give much thought to running it on battery til I noticed that the power icon said "On AC Power, Charging" It didn't give me a percentage however, and when I double clicked to inpect further I noticed that the battery icon under battery #1 had an X through it, and it also said "Total Battery Power remaining: Unknown".
At this point I updated the BIOS because I had seen a few forum topics that suggested this, I also made sure I had the most up to date drivers off HP's site for all hardware. Another step I took was to uninstall the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" then scan for hardware changes and let Windows reinstall it. None of this worked.
I then assumed I had a bad battery on my hands, I ordered another one (not an HP, a cheaper one) and when it came I plugged it in overnight to charge and after about 12 hours turned the laptop back on to see if I had a fully charged battery, I did not!
It was acting in exactly the same way the original battery had acted. The only difference that I could notice was, that on one of my many reboots the icon under battery #1 in the Power Meter window only had a single red slash through it, instead of a red X.
Things I have tried:
1. Updated BIOS
2. Updated all drivers
3. Fresh install of Windows XP (again after the original recovery install)
4. Unistalling the "ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" in Device Manager.
5. Ran HP Battery Check Utility, has a divide by zero exception upon startup, then says no battery is present.
6. Booting directly to BIOS and allowing it a chance to charge overnight.
7. Swapping both batteries (no difference).
8. Taking back apart casing to make sure there were no loose wires.
My only thought next would be that either both batteries are bad (seems unlikely) or that there is a problem with the new motherboard. The motherboard being bad would surprise me, as it is able to run just fine without using battery power.

I've read that the best way to prolong the life of a notebook battery is to take out the battery and store it at 40% charge. However, I like to keep my battery plugged-in as a backup power source. Is there anyway to make my laptop stop charging the battery at around 40%? That way I can extend the life of my battery while still having protection against a power outage.
System specs:
HP DV7T-2000
Core 2 Duo P7450
4Gb RAM
ATI Radeon 4650
320Gb HD

My Presario V6310US battery wont charge to 100%, Windows usualy reports that it's at about 41% but never higher.
Does this usualy indicate a battery on its way out? The laptop isn't extremely old so it seems odd. My Gateway is older and has no problems.

I have a Compaq Presario V5000 that will not power up. Fans and drives don't spin up. The odd thing is it will charge the battery when hooked up to the power supply. The orange lightning bolt is solid until it is fully charged then it blinks. I have a second power supply and I get the same result.
The laptop does nothing when I remove the battery and try to run in directly on the power supply. I have re-seated the memory, hard drive, DVD drive, WiFi, keyboard, touchpad, monitor, audio board and replaced the power button board.
I also checked the power level going all the way to the processor and all is well.

i have a compaq c500 (c501tu) laptop.
for about 6 months now when i run the laptop on battery power it dies after 15 mins.
i thought i needed a new battery but tested my existing one on my friends laptop which is the same as mine, a c500 series.
after fully charging the battery on my laptop i removed it and plugging it into my friends laptop and it gave me 45 minutes of power compared to 15 minutes on mine!
i did this thrice and had the same results. but when i plug it back onto my laptop i get only 15 minutes of usage.

i have a compaq presario c500 i have a problem that it wont charge and it wont run without the battery ...i know its not the charger and not the battery at fault as i have two of the same laptops and tried both parts from the other laptop with no sucess . is it more likely to be the motherboard or the actual mains plug on the laptop ....when i plug the adapter into the laptop it shows a charge light on front and the battery icon on screen shows as charging but it still dies the only way to get round it is it to charge it in my girlfriends laptop then put the battery back in mine ...is there any setting in the bios that would change how its charged

I know not every nvidia unit is going to fail, but my previous v300 compaq did, and the replacement dv2700TSE I got is starting to do the same thing almost 6 months later. I was looking at the new SE and it has the 9200gm which I believe is on the list of possibly defective gpu's correct?
So what are my choices HP wise? no ATI (which im not a fan of, but at this point 'll try anything). Im not a huge gamer but like to load up FarCry 2 and other games every once in a while with medium settings. I also do a lot of 2d photoshop work and some CAD work. Id like to stick to the 14.1 size but doesn't look that will be an option.

I bought an HP laptop for 1300 dollars a year and 3 months ago. The laptop's manufacturer warranty expired in January. So in the beginning of April my laptop died for no reason. I took it to the local Geek Squad in Jensen Beach, FL, and they reluctantly told me it was the motherboard. Now I didn't purchase the extended warranty from HP, but since the laptop is barely a year old and it just died out of nowhere, I've called HP to see if they would help me out. This is the second HP laptop which motherboard has died this year for me. My mother's laptop's motherboard died in February and they swapped hers out for free. Apparently her model qualified for a free motherboard but mine didn’t.
I've been arguing with countless customer service people, being transferred all around, getting promised to be contacted and never contacted. I've escalated my problem twice now with HP to hear from case managers and I've yet to hear from them despite their promises.
I've got the invoice from the Geek Squad to prove that it was a defective motherboard. I saw another person at the Geek Squad TODAY while picking up my laptop with the same exact problem, with an HP laptop! Why should people pay 300 dollars to make sure their laptops last more than one year? They may not be obligated to fix these problems by law but it'd be the right thing to do seeing as how it was their fault. In today’s economy I can't afford 500 dollars to fix everything when HP initially put a bad motherboard in my laptop in the first place!
And to top it all off, my hard drive ALSO fried -because- my motherboard had fried!

I am running Windows 8.0 (64bit) and my wifi is not working properly on Battery mode. On AC Adapter, it works 100% perfect but in battery mode, it always goes to Limited Connectivity. Repaired it but 25seconds later it gets the same problem. Limited Connectivity every single time. It's an endless cycle. Warranty has expired and I am not happy with it.Â
Even if repaired, cannot open any website. Full 5 wifi bars but still the same result. Tried manually (TCP/IP Settings IPv4) but didnt work at all.
My wifi driver is Intel Centrino Wireless N 2230 (Â 15.12.0.6 version updated from intel.com website).Â
Product number C2Y46AV (HP ENVY DV6 NOTEBOOK PC)
Tried everything that I could possibly think off such as disabling Norton Firewall & Running windows firewall but still the same problem.
Updated everything from HP.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. The 6-cell battery that came with it stopped holding its charge, so I bought a new 9-cell battery. Now that one won't hold a charge. I figured it must be the cord, so I bought a new one. It still won't hold a charge. When I run my mouse over the battery icon, it says XX% (currently 37%) available (plugged in, not charging). I know just enough about computers to be dangerous, but not enough to figure out what is wrong. Can anyone help me trouble shoot?

i've had my Z for for a couple weeks now. previously i had a vaio FW which has been used for a good year or so. by now, the battery on my FW is pretty much useless because it cannot hold enough charge to keep the laptop running for 10 min without the charger being plugged in. however, i notice that my brand new Z isnt able to hold the charge 100% either. this was the case for my FW as well, and it progressively got worse to the point where, as mentioned, i couldnt run it without it plugged in. what's can i do about this? i'm trying to prevent this from happening to my Z since i will most definitely need it to run on battery life for a couple of hours during classes. when using my Z at home, i normally keep it plugged in (it have not let it reach 0% battery life yet). i've been keeping it plugged in even when it is off..that is the only way i see 100% battery life upon start up. if i leave it unplugged, when starting up, it will only display 96-98%. the longer i leave it unplugged, the lower the charge is when i start it up again (after about 8 hours unplugged and shut off, it'll show 92% at start up).

A while back I booted up the notebook and my battery light began blinking rapidly. The battery icon says the battery was at 100%, but it wont run or start up on the battery alone. I took this as being a battery issue and I've just been running it of the wall.
Just recently I bought a new battery and it ran off the new battery, which still had some juice (about 40%). I plugged the charger in and to my dissmay, watched the battery level decrease. So i'm thinking this is more of a laptop issue and not a battery issue....

I have a question regarding battery charge time..
If I fully charge the battery and unplug it. I'll use it for about 10 minutes without AC power. When I replug it, it shows that it'll take an hour to recharge. What the heck?
Is this normal?
All I did was web browsing. No bluetooth on, no keyboard lightening, dimmest possible LCD brightness...
