HP/Compaq :: HP Pavillion DV5226ca - Remote And Quickplay Not Working

Recently,a friend gave me is hp pavillion dv5226ca(dv 5000 series)because he was buying a new one .The hdd was dead,so I changed it and installed a clean copy of XP Pro.I have downloaded all the drivers that were avalaible on hp website for this product(at least,all that were working),and all the laptop features are working,except quickplay buttons and the included mini remote.
If I press one of the 2 quickplay buttons while XP running,nothing happen.If I press it while the computer is off,then the laptop power on but loads XP normally instead of quickplay interface.Remote control doesn't work independently of the buttons pressed and power state.
In device manager,all the devices are working and installed properly.
What do I need to do to get those buttons and the remote to work,knowing I don't have anything else than the laptop and the charger?

This little piece of software will map the QuickPlay media keys such as QuickPlay, MediaSmart, DVD, Info Center and Calculator (where available) to any application of your choice.
Detailed info can be found in the readme file, but i don't think you'll need any explanation. Please report any bugs or feature requests you may have.
Extract to a folder of your choice and run QPRemapper.exe. It should work with all QuickPlay laptops, i have tested it on my DV9700 and DV5 and it works perfectly. A friend of mine confirmed it works on a Compaq CQ45 too. Since version 1.2 also supports more keys and will work with older series like nx9000. v1.3 works with DV7 too. If it doesn't work with yours let me know.
New feature in v1.3 - Volume control speed hack! If you felt that the volume bar is too slow for your taste, this is the option for you. Make your volume bar between 2 and 6 times faster, depending on your liking. Have fun!

Last week my computer just stopped working. Just wouldn't boot up all the way, not sure if it got a virus or what...but it sucked.
When it first happened I tried to run the system restore from the restore partition, it got to 87% and failed, on 4 tries. After that I decided to make a set of restore disks from my wifes computer to try that (same exact computer). After 4 tries with that, 3 times error after disk 5, 1 error after last disk...I ordered the official restore disks from HP.
I did the above process on the original hard drive, and then went out and bought a new one...same results with the home made disks on that.
Now, with the restore disks on my new hard drive, it gets through both disk, finishes the restore and then start installing all the damn bloatware that comes with HP...sometime during this process after one of the restarts the computer loads a black screen that says Operating System not found...
any ideas what could be wrong? I did a disk diagnostic from BIOS and it all checks out. But since my warranty is passed HP won't help with troubleshooting so I'm not sure where to go from here.
I'd love to take it to geeksquad at the moment, but sadly buying that new hard drive was all the spare money I can muster up at the moment.

I just got my new DV4t yesterday with a blu ray drive and it's pretty awesome. However, I was hoping I could use the quickplay function so I could use less battery life and use my CPU's power only for watching blu rays without vista wasting resources in the background. But it always boots straight into Windows first and then loads quickplay second.

I have the dv9535nr and am dual booting Windows7 and XP Pro. I have tried and tried to get HP Quickplay working on at least one of these, perferably XP since 7 will be up in August. The problem is I finally got Quickplay and my TV tuner working (on Win 7), but it is the new 3.6 or 3.7 version of Quickplay which sucks. The window is buggy and the channels typed in overlay each other every time. I want the old Quickplay that I got with Vista originally. I have spent to much time on HP's site trying to resolve this.

My HP Pavillion dv2680 entertainment notebook has a feature called QuickPlay which consists of a special button on the keyboard which, when pressed, will turn the notebook on and launch the media software HP QuickPlay as soon as its up and running.
My question is, is can this button be used to launch an alternative operating system?
This button has been designed for launching the notebook into a media player rather than a notebook. The operating system (Vista in my case) is receiving some form of notification that QuickPlay was requested, instead of a usual boot.
Such an option would mean a pre-Windows Vista boot loader to interpret the options during boot.

I had a registry hack to remap the quickplay button that worked fine under XP. This is the touch sensitive control at the top of my dv5t next to the mute, volume, play controls. Under XP the location was:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAppKey18
But it doesn't appear to work under Win 7. Does anyone know the location for Win 7?
I don't want to install Quickplay, and didn't need to under XP. All the other buttons work fine out of the box.
I've seen two locations for Vista:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeCyberLinkQuickPlay
Change the key "Main" to the path of the program you want (sans the quotation marks if you copy it as a path). The original value of this is something like C:Program Files (x86)HPQuickplayOP.exe (no quotation marks). Replace that. I replaced it with C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Origami Experience Pack 2.0Origami Experienceox.exe (Origami central executable).

It has been known that HP has dropped the development of QuickPlay Direct due to compatibility issue.
For old model of Pavillion (before dv x5xx) that shipped with Vista as OS, HP did not include QuickPlay direct features anymore.
However, if you have managed to download QuickPlay Direct 2.3, you still can install QuickPlay Direct. In some models, a registry hacked was needed to install QuickPlay Windows and QuickPlay Direct. Some models of Presario that have QuickPlay button may also install QuickPlay.
For Pavillion models dv x5xx and above, installing QuickPlay Direct 2.3 would give you BSOD due to ICH8 sata driver.
I recently bought the last model of dv2700 series, dv2922tx, I prefer this old model instead of dv4 for some personal reasons. In this model, I did some try and error attempts to utilize QuickPlay button.............

I have a Studio XPS 13 (aka. 1340) but Im sure this would probably be relevant for Studio XPS 16 owners as well. On the front of the system, you will notice an IR receiver which is meant to go with the Dell IR remote (which I didnt order). In the device manager, it appears as a generic Infrared HID device.
I am just wondering if anyone has been able to successfully get their Studio XPS working with an IR remote? Maybe with a Windows Media Center remote control, or perhaps get it to recognize/learn from a typical remote control you might have laying around?

Yesterday I bought HP Pavillion DV3z-1000 with AMD Athlon X2 QL-62 2000Mhz and ATI Radeon HD 3200.
It look very nice, but also have some problem - always working cooler. When you are not using strong applications, such as Video Playaer, Flash Video in browser etc., it's work fairly quiet, but if not... .
Is it here another customers of this model? Did you have this problem? RMClock does not support Athlon QL-62 so I can't decrease the voltage .

I actually have a Alienware but my baby has a Pavillion DV6 1100SO.
It's working ok, but it get so so hot! and for sure the fan are really hectics
There are something to do, one can of trick, fix or something? I'm going to buy her a fan dock, like antec, etc...
I'm thinking maybe to remove the cloth from the vento holes, the one that protect it from dust. I did it with my Alienware and it works.

i got an HP Pavillion Artist's Edition laptop (HP Pavillion dv2700) with a built-in webcam, running Vista. even more recently i decided to try to get a program i could use to record my desktop, just for fun. i tried a program called ManyCam (since it was free). however, it didn't seem to work with Youcam, and when i tried using Youcam, that wouldn't work either. ManyCam froze when i tried to select the webcam as the source, and Youcam simply showed a black screen where i should've been able to see myself. in the end i uninstalled Youcam (i also no longer have quickplay because i was sick of it starting every time i accidentally brushed the button).
after searching for a solution i tried downloading and installing a non-HP driver (Chicony--now the driver shows up as Acer Crystal Eye webcam). this didn't help any. i even tried a different program, Debut Video Capture Software. still no luck (when i select "device" as the source i just get a black screen). i've looked everywhere i could think for a solution but have yet to find one. any help would be greatly appreciated. just ask if any additional information is needed.
ok, here's what i did: i uninstalled the chicony driver, as well as ManyCam and the other program i had installed. i also got skype, on a friend's recommendation. i restarted my computer to install updates. the hp webcam driver seemed to be installed and running fine. skype detected my webcam. however i still got no picture, just a blank/black screen. even on msn. i found a torrent of youcam and installed it, but it keeps telling me there's no video device detected. my webcam is turning on, but beyond that it's still not working.

HP Pavillion DV9500t got damaged when i was playing game 3 months ago. the Main problem for the hp is Graphic card gone and the motherboard might not work either. the pc had been sent for repair once 7 months ago due to the blackscreen (LCD screen with no background light) and this happened just before the end of the 1 year Warranty.
I bought it at end of June 2007.
currently, i dont know if i still possible to get it repair without pay anything.

Im stuck between getting an acer 1810tz or the DM1, the DM1 is actually a bit better with its DDR3 and bluetooth, its possible i can get it for cheaper as well.
However the inspiron 11z looks great too but the reviews say that sucks with its horrible touchpad and only 1 ram slot etc, i cant find any reviews of the DM1 anywhere, is it a good laptop? Better than the 1810tz?

I have an HP Pavillion DV9700 that for some reason will shut itself down for no reason and reboot, sometimes it may run for 2-3 minutes and sometimes 20 minutes but it doesnt give you any error except on bootup it has the windows wasnt shutdown properly. Sad but Funny I have an HP ZE4325US and it started doing the same thing last year, what the crap is the chance of buying two HP's and both end up with the same issue? I'm having a a VERY hard time getting my sister's DV6 to connect to our router.
I've updated the wifi driver, and the firmware on my ASUS WL-520 GU.
I can see the network, but I won't let me connect. Running WPA-Auto-Personal.
Now, I've heard that Vista has issues with WPA, but my dell connects fine without any issues.
If I plug the laptop into the router with an ethernet cable, I can connect wirelessly to the router. If I then unplug from the router, the wireless with work for a couple minutes, and then kick me off.

I am using a HP Pavillion 9810us laptop. I have never had a problem with Itunes. Now I am having all sorts of problems. When I installed Itunes on a clean install of Windows Vista 32bit, It seemed like Itunes corrupted the sound card driver.

I just bought a new dv6 on black friday from staples, the dv6-1334 with a t4300/4gb ram.
Is anyone having trouble inserting their remote control into the slot on the left side of the laptop? My remote won't really fit...i can get it about 90% of the way in, but when i push to click it in/click it out, its like its stuck with sticky goo or something, it goes in really slowly to lock in place and comes out really slowly when i click it out of place.
Other than the media remote control issue, I'm liking this ALOT more than my tx2500 tablet with better cpu and graphics/video card.

I am working on salvaging a family member's Pavillion DV2500 from a nasty spill. She spilled some soda all over the laptop and it obviously caused some issues.
I was able to get it all cleaned up and back to normal working order with the exception of the keyboard. When I use the keyboard a single keypress will result in multiple keypresses registering. For example: When I press the '1' key, it actually inputs '21'. This only happens for keys on the left side of the keyboard.
I know the first response will be, replace the keyboard. Well I did. Twice. Each new keyboard has the same response.
Has anyone had similar experience? I have tried cleaning up the connection on the motherboard for the keyboard the best I can and still nothing.

I bought a Dv7t and it came with a small remote and the basic question i have is:
Where does it go (if there is a slot in the laptop that can hold it)?
I noticed on top of the SD card slot thingy there is a rectangular cover with a symbol on it that is also on the remote (a rectangle with lines coming off of it to the left). Is that supposed to be taken off and the remote slides in there, or is that where you point the remote when you press buttons?

I've added more memory, from 2 GB to 3 GB, bigger and faster HDD 320 GB @7200 rpm.

my mom has a HP Pavillion dv6000 made for being mobile and having some gaming capability anyway she's had it for year and half well long story short its alwas been kinda slow and I ran some tests on it because I'm thinking about buying it from her and the processor AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 @ 1.90GHz is like locked at 803.9MHz won't go past it I ran OCCT for an hour and it never went over 803.9MHz and never went under 803.7Mhz any idea what the problem could be?. I know she didn't do anything to it, all she does is go on Facebook.com and play FarmTown >_>
