HP/Compaq :: Moving Data From Old Hard Drive From Adv2000
Sep 12, 2009
I have a dv2000 that doesnt work, but I want to recover the data from the hard drive. I tried ordering a sabrent USB to SATA/IDE adapter, but it doesnt fit my laptop serial ata hard drive. I've made this task a lot harder then it needed to be, but I can't figure out what part I need in order to make this work. Below is an image of the back of the hard drive. Let me know if there are any other things I should include.
I have Dell XPS 2013 laptop purchased in June 2013 with Windows 7 professional OS install in it. Suddenly the laptop stopped working giving an error message with complete black screen:
error: no such partition. grub rescue >
When I took it to the service center they told me the hard drive of the system might have failed leading to such error. I am still unsure is it due to hard disk failure? On the top of that I have many important working files stored in the system for which I could not able to take back up. Is there any way I can retrieve my files? If I need to purchase a new hard drive which specifications I need to order. Unfortunately the system had only 1-year warranty period...
I had done a human error after a problem with sound in my inspiron N4010 I tried to do a recovery factory but I didn't a backup of all my important files so that I lost all my information now. That I did. I used Dell data safe local backup application to restore drivers, the hard drive was formatted and re-installed all of the software originally shipping on my computer, Dell Data safe mode basic. not returned me all files. so that I lost important files. How can I recover data? it is possible to recover lost data?
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 that came with the partitioned data recovery feature. I immediately created 2 recovery disks. Yesterday, I sectioned my active hard drive so that I could have, in effect, 2 hard drives. The newly partitionedsection of the hard drive is naturally blank and I would like to install my data recovery or disk recovery information on it.
I have a hp envy m7j010dx with windows 8.1. it came preinstalled (windows 8) on a 1 tb hdd. I recently purchased a samsung 840 pro 250 gb ssd that i wouold like to make the system drive and make the original drive my data drive. confused on how to do so. want it fresh not clone. all i can find is restore or backup stuff. i just want to put the original computer on the new drive.
I'm willing to purchase my first Macbook Pro, but I have one huge question mark in mind: Will I get to access all my data on my NTFS-formated external hard drives? If so, how, is it natively supported with Mac OS X?
How to move your Users folder to a different drive in Windows 8 (very straightforward) and Windows 7 (a bit more difficult). You need two drives or one partitioned drive.
Windows 8 (I did it yesterday, it took 15 minutes, I don't see any difference in terms of performance, and I have now a system drive and a data drive) :

Make sure you have a backup of your current installation before proceeding !
I am thinking about getting a new DV4T and then upgrading the hard drive to an X-25 ssd, but obviously it'll only be 80GB which is an issue. I just read the NBR review of the DV4 and it seems that there is a special hard drive you can plug in into the optical drive bay to boost your storage space... i've been searching everywhere but I can't find the thing... anyone know where/if this thing does in fact exist and if it's compatible with the "new" DV4s?
If my laptop's hard drive has to be replace, can I replace it with any 2.5" and does the capacity and speed matter? My current one that came with the laptop with vista pre-installed is 160gb SATA.
about 8 months ago our laptop died on us.PS3 died the other day.So i need something to fiddle with.it died during a disk clean up/defragg.there were some bad sectors.chose to clean up.afterwards it goes through the bios screen;then instead of windows showing up i get a screen with a blinking cursor. Now in the bios screen idid a hard drive test says 01-07 FAIL.is there a chance at recovery or should i just get a new HDD? Is there a way to reformatt from the bios? Can i access DOS from there?
just picked up a new ENVY 15 from Asia. It was preconfigured on special with decent specs. The only downside is that it only comes with a 500GB hard drive. I was looking under the North American specs for the customizable model and noticed that there is an option for a secondary hard drive. Just wondering if anyone can confirm this? Don't want to operate on this beauty if the second drive bay doesn't even exist.
I have an HP-dv2000 laptop hard-drive that's completely crashed now.
I have a Dell XPS laptop 320gig Sata Hard drive that I am trying to replace it with, however when I plug the hard drive in and try to turn on the power. All that happens is all the lights on the laptop just blink really fast, along with the multimedia quick buttons, continuously.
If I remove the hard-drive and it will actually go away and start, it will start up the HP screen thats it.
I am planning on putting another HDD into my dv8 with two hard drive bays. I am currently using one of the bays for a 320GB 7200prm drive. I'm probably gonna put another 320GB 7200rpm or 500GB 5400rpm HDD in. However, I am not sure where to purchase a hard drive caddy from. There is one from NewmodeUS for around $40 + $5 shipping and there is a one that is a genuine HP part from the HP parts and store that costs around $50 + $10 shipping. Where do you guys think I should buy it from?
The link for the Newmodes one is [url]
The one from the HP parts and store is [url] and type in the part number 483862-001
I bought a hard drive (Seagate 320GB SATA 2.5") intending to upgrade my storage space which is currently 160gb. I checked to see if the drive was compatible (the drive my HP dv6500t shipped with was a Toshiba MK1637GSX) and I had figured it was since both were SATA.
The hard drive arrived today. I decided that before I begin putting my drive image on the new drive that I check to see if it'll fit. I open it up and take the drive out and to my surprise I see that the drive that was inside the laptop had some kind of pin-connectors.
The Seagate laptop did not. I took off the caddy that was holding the hard drive, but I noticed that the pin connectors were a part of the hard drive itself.
So this has left me rather perplexed. I looked online and found caddies and SATA connectors for a dv6000 laptop but they were going for around $35.
Is this normal or am I just missing something here? Should I have ordered a different drive?
My laptop is a Pavilion dv6500t purchased October, 2007.
if the HP laptop hard drives are proprietary or not?
The reason I ask is that my dv9608ca laptop is dead, but I am 90% certain that the hard drive is fine. So I thought I would salvage it and use it as an external hard drive.
So I bought an external enclosure which is for 2.5" SATA drives. However, the prongs on the hard drive are twice as tall as the spot for them to go in, in the enclosure.
The reviews for the hard drive enclosure have been all positive, so it obviously works.
I need to replace the hard drive in my DV6654 and am not sure if it is a 2.5 inch or not. I have not been able to find this information anywhere I have looked. The only thing I know is that it is a wd2500bevs-60ust0. It is 250GB. Can I put a 500GB in it? I have read that a computer may not recognize the new drive if it is too large.
So I just purchased a DV4t a month ago. Only recently maybe this past week have I noticed that my hard drive is overheating because my left palm is getting really hot. I have no idea what would cause this? What are some causes of an overheating hard drive, and what can I do to keep the temperature down?
I've had this Lap top sitting around for a year or so. The hard drive went out some time back and I don't know where the original went. what replacement I need? I can't figure out what these connections are.
I have a hp dv 6308nr that is about 3 years old. Something that I did to it recently caused the hard drive to go bad (new battery, new charger, new ram, not sure). Anyway, I don't really want to put a lot of money into a 3 year old laptop. Also, I don't have any restore cd's. I do have everything backed up on an external hd. But, wouldn't I have to purchase windows all over again to install it on my new hard drive? Would I be better off just getting a new computer and selling this one for parts or can I get a new hard drive cheap somewhere?
i just bought my hp hdx 16 yesterday the main reason i choosed hdx 16 over dv6 is the second hard drive option(as said in maintenance guide) now i opened the back and no place for my second hard drive if any1 knows where the connector
I have hp Pavilion g6 1200tx. On Windows 7... How to format only c drive without deleting any othere drives and data, i was partition drives by shrink option...
I'd like to create a factory backup disk to the Dell laptop that I recently aquired (Inspiron 14). I want to save this factory backup on an external WD flash drive (that has 500GB). This disk contains, already 100GB of other personal data.
My question is: will the process of creating factory disk delete all other data on that drive (I don't want that to happend of course) or it will create the Image disk in addition to the other data the in this disk?? Dell's wizard said that the factory data requires only 9.2GB so there's plenty of space for all the data together.
On my DV9774ca theres two hard drives. The second (D) drive has started acting up. I download torrents and newsgroup Tv shows to it, leaves the C drive free. Its started to freeze the system if I sometime do stuff on the D drive, like un-rar a movie on the D drive.Theres no odd noises, nice and quiet.
I did the hard drive scan and fix on the Tools tab in Properties of the D drive. It gets to test 4 and says its at '10% File 359 of 17254' and freezes there then! I did the diagnostic in the BIOS for this drive and it estimates 89 minutes to do the test, yet after 20 seconds it stops and says something like '#100068 Replace Hard Disc'.
I gather the hard drive is toast. Its a WD 160GB. Came with the laptop exactly 12.5 months ago! I called HP and I am out of luck, I thought they could swing it for me.
Am I right it say its toast? I gather its mecahnical, as thats what the BIOS looks for? I can't just reformat it?
starting from yesterday i cant seems to access my hard drive. everytime i try to go into my computer then double click on the hard drive, it would enter but then freeze and becomes non-responsive. i cant enter the folders like programs, user, windows...etc, it would just freeze. i have no problem other drives such as removable flash drive, this only happens with the hard drive. i have to close explorer but then my desktop would be blank with just my wallpaper, so i would need to restart or log off but it will take forever. also i notice my hard drive LED is always on and the temperature is getting really hot, it never happened before and i ran scans with avg and it shows i hav no virus or spyware. so idk wat is the problem, it happened all of the sudden it was fine 2 days ago,
i just bought my hp hdx 16 yesterday the main reason i choosed hdx 16 over dv6 is the second hard drive option(as said in the maintenance manual) now i opened the back and no place for my second hard drive
My friend has a 2006 hp pavilion running xp. I have a 2007 hp pavilion running vista(32 bit). They look completely identical. Her motherboard took a dump, but the hard drive is good, and she needs to get the data off of it. Can i take out my hard drive from my laptop and install hers to get the docs and data off of it? Is it the same connection? size?
