View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently run into a problem, when I wanted to install my ANNO 1404 game, I inserted the disc into my laptop, but it shows no data, it simply looks to be empty. So I tried it in my desktop PC and there there is everything OK, disc is full, game can be installed. I left it be and after few days I wanted to see a movie, but after inserting the movie DVD into my laptop, I received this error in WMP: "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. In some cases, you can resolve the problem by updating the device driver for your video card." So I'm starting to think my DVD driver is somehow "wrongly set" or something like that. What can I do about it?
My OS is W7 Professional (on desktop too, so OS is not the issue), my laptop is Inspiron 15R SE 7520. Both DVDs (game and movie) are original, no stealing here.
I have a dv2000 that doesnt work, but I want to recover the data from the hard drive. I tried ordering a sabrent USB to SATA/IDE adapter, but it doesnt fit my laptop serial ata hard drive. I've made this task a lot harder then it needed to be, but I can't figure out what part I need in order to make this work. Below is an image of the back of the hard drive. Let me know if there are any other things I should include.

I have Dell XPS 2013 laptop purchased in June 2013 with Windows 7 professional OS install in it. Suddenly the laptop stopped working giving an error message with complete black screen:
error: no such partition.
grub rescue >
When I took it to the service center they told me the hard drive of the system might have failed leading to such error. I am still unsure is it due to hard disk failure? On the top of that I have many important working files stored in the system for which I could not able to take back up. Is there any way I can retrieve my files? If I need to purchase a new hard drive which specifications I need to order. Unfortunately the system had only 1-year warranty period...
I'm willing to purchase my first Macbook Pro, but I have one huge question mark in mind: Will I get to access all my data on my NTFS-formated external hard drives? If so, how, is it natively supported with Mac OS X?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI purchased a new Pavilion 15-p080ca Windows 8 laptop from tigerdirect.ca and received it a couple of days ago.
The computer had randomly rebooted during working on it, I remember having read an IO error message in a windows popup. Since then, it continuously reboot, tries to load windows, fails and reboot until automatic repair kicks in.
Bios system log has many warnings/error: 03F0, 03F1, 0021. I got about 3 times a hard disk not found error on POST.
I am unable to repair the installation whether from the recovery partition or from recovery discs, I get "The drive is locked error" or "Automatic repair could not repair your pc".
Also recovery manager can't find the recovery partition. On command prompt, diskpart does not list disk; "There are no fixed disk to show".
However, Ubuntu live cd and Mini xp are able to see every partitions, show files and read them, a fast HDtune read test shows no disk error.
The computer is able to read from hard drive since I am able to get on recovery and windows tries to load until I get the "Your pc ran into a problem that it couldn't handle and it needs to restart"
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics SMART test passed, Short DST returns Warning. HP diagnostic smart test returned "no hard disk installed" message one time.
Anything Windows 8 based, whether recovery disk, original media are not able to see hard drive.
I tried booting recovery disk, recovery partition with every combination of Legacy support and Secure boot to recover the partitions without success since the hard drive is not detected (from diskpart list disk command). From the recovery dvds I get a 0xefffff08 error. I also tried to remove the recovery partition thinking it could want to recover from it to get things faster.
I have bought HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC on last year August. Yesterday while I was working on my Laptop It was restarted and Bios (setup) screen was shown. After this when I try to boot my laptop it shows blank (black) screen forever (no errors shown).
When I diagnose my laptop, I got Hard Drive Short DST Failure . I have called HP service center and they were telling to replace the hard drive.
But I have some many important files and documents in my laptop. is it possible to recover my files using some method?
Product description: HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC Product number: C0L24AAR
Problem: Chucked a hot sugary drink over my DELL XPS 17 L702X laptop (accidentally!)
Actions Taken: Mopped up quickly and let Laptop dry out.
Initially Laptop booted and I managed to email 2 important documents to myself (must be more religious with my backups).
Laptop started making a whirring noise (Hard disk problem?)
Keyboard "interesting" and will need replacing
Rebooted laptop and get to Blue Boot Menu
Perform Diagnostics and get the warning (!) No Hard Drive Detected - all other tests (including memory) PASS
Have tried booting from my restore disc - but, unsurprisingly no Hard Drive Detected
Have removed Hard Drive and carefully and gently cleaned with cotton cloth
Replaced - same problem
Have tried Hard Disk in second HDD slot - same problem.
My plan is to buy a new Hard Disk (along with a Key Board)....
I got a VGN-NR260E to fix and the HDD is reporting problems, now most laptops I've worked on have a HDD panel on the bottom, not this one, and Im thinking I have to take it apart fully.

I have a Dell Inspiron N5050. The hard disc of the laptop makes little clicking sound, which can be heard only in silence or if you keep it close to your ear, but yeah it makes those sounds continuously. I bought it last year and I noticed this sound after like 4 months. I have the latest firmware update installed and also checked the hard disc for errors, but that isn't making any effect. It working completely fine. I use it moderately, some Ms office works and a sometimes games too, like about 6 hours a day. No hangs, No high temperature and nothing.
But since I've experienced trouble with the hard disc of a PC (which crashed within days after it started making sounds), i am a little tensed about it. Should i take it to a service center? will a hard disc format be useful. The sound is louder when the device is booting.
I am using windows 7 Home basic SP1 x64, the hard disc is ST 9500325AS 500GB, 2GB RAM.
I have a Lenovo Y410P that will not boot. The BIOS only sees to PXE boot. It does not attempt to boot from the Windows 8 installation disc, or from the hard drive that I reinstalled Windows on myself. I can boot to both of these on other computers, so I know they are not the problem. I'm thinking it's BIOS or motherboard related, but I'm not sure where to go from here.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHad to format my hard disc and reinstall Windows XP, then upgraded to Win 7. Windows has generic VGA driver that's OK, but it can't run any copmplex videos that it used to be able to run. I know it's 5 years old, but everytime I download stuff for the "specs" listed on website, I can't get anywhere. I'm sure there have been more than one video card integrated into the board, but I don't know where else to turn!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 that came with the partitioned data recovery feature. I immediately created 2 recovery disks. Yesterday, I sectioned my active hard drive so that I could have, in effect, 2 hard drives. The newly partitionedsection of the hard drive is naturally blank and I would like to install my data recovery or disk recovery information on it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC model # A1M02AV and it has a VGA port, one that looks like a phone/broadband cable port, and one that looks like a USB port but indented on either side at the bottom. Can I even connect an external monitor? How do I find out if I have more than 1 video card? Besides the usual USB/headphone ports, I don't have any other ports. It says my drivers are up to date...but I don't even know what I should be looking for. Do I need to install something or buy some sort of adapter?
I am trying to connect a Dell external montitor via the VGA port with a VGA cable. The monitor has power but my notebook does not recognize/detect it. However, when I first plugged it in, my notebook display shrank into a square (vs the whole screen) so it recognized something...but nothing happened on the external monitor.
I tried detecting it via my display settings, but I accidentally changed some dispaly setting so that the home desktop only shows on monitor 1, but unselected my actual notebook display or something or changed it to be monitor 2 (even though monitor 1 does not exist), so when I plug the cable in to my notebook, all of a sudden my desktop goes away and it's a just a blank background screen - and I cannot access the computer display settings or anything.... when the cable is unplugged this setting looks normal, so I can't figure out how to fix it.
I was making a Windows 7 recovery disc set, usning the Lenovo Thinkvantage tools, and one of the first pop up windows that came up said "Note: DVD RAM is not supported for Disc 1 of the Product Recovery disc set". Does this meen that I cannot use a DVDs for a Recovery discs? That is all I have.

I have found a few programs out there like ExifTool by Phil Harvey but it is a command line program that I am just scared of and then I just ran across MacMetaMod which looks promising....
The Dell Recover Partition is a great idea and everything, but is it worth it? I tried creating a new partition on my harddrive to store my music and it won't let me because the drive is all locked up. I want to format the whole drive and start fresh so I can have a seperate partition for my personal files. This means getting rid of the recovery partition. They shipped me an XP installation disc, but no drivers...I can download those. Plus on the recovery partition there is a lot of bloatware.
