Old hard drive made strange noises and stop working replaced using the same Toshiba part number,
Now when turned on says on screen the smart hard disc check has detected an imminent failure run hard disc test.
Memory test OK hard drive test smart check - not available short DST- warning.
System info hp Pavilion g6-2285sa, Product No D1Q30EA#ABU
O/S windows 8 64bit have no recovery disc.
I have an Envy 14-1110NR laptop and am getting a Hard Drive failure imminent message every time I boot up. Having run the HP diagnostics, the hard drive check fails so I'm guessing I have to replace it.
The hard drive is a Samsung HM640JJ which has gone obsolete.
My HP G62-b23SA reports a imminent hard disk failure. Hard disk test reports SMART Error (301). Advised to back up the system and contact HP support to enquire if Hard disk needs to be replaced or just needs repair. I have since backed up the system, should it be replaced?

Actions Taken: Mopped up quickly and let Laptop dry out.
Initially Laptop booted and I managed to email 2 important documents to myself (must be more religious with my backups).
Laptop started making a whirring noise (Hard disk problem?)
Keyboard "interesting" and will need replacing
Rebooted laptop and get to Blue Boot Menu
Perform Diagnostics and get the warning (!) No Hard Drive Detected - all other tests (including memory) PASS
Have tried booting from my restore disc - but, unsurprisingly no Hard Drive Detected
Have removed Hard Drive and carefully and gently cleaned with cotton cloth
Replaced - same problem
Have tried Hard Disk in second HDD slot - same problem.
My plan is to buy a new Hard Disk (along with a Key Board)....
I need to replace the hard drive on a Pavillion G6. Unfortunately we do not have recovery discs. Is there a way to reinstall Windows 7 without having to buy the operating system?

My laptop doesn't starting .It goes on Automatic Repair and after a minute it starts "Diagonising your PC" which remain for hours and at last "Automatic repair failed" message appears, below it restore option is also available. I proceed to restore but it also fails.Then I shutdown the laptop and open it again and I pressed esc button quickly and then I tried to test the hard drive which doesn't go furthur testing and display "hard drive test fails". I purchased a new Pavilion 15-p080ca Windows 8 laptop from tigerdirect.ca and received it a couple of days ago.
The computer had randomly rebooted during working on it, I remember having read an IO error message in a windows popup. Since then, it continuously reboot, tries to load windows, fails and reboot until automatic repair kicks in.
Bios system log has many warnings/error: 03F0, 03F1, 0021. I got about 3 times a hard disk not found error on POST.
I am unable to repair the installation whether from the recovery partition or from recovery discs, I get "The drive is locked error" or "Automatic repair could not repair your pc".
Also recovery manager can't find the recovery partition. On command prompt, diskpart does not list disk; "There are no fixed disk to show".
However, Ubuntu live cd and Mini xp are able to see every partitions, show files and read them, a fast HDtune read test shows no disk error.
The computer is able to read from hard drive since I am able to get on recovery and windows tries to load until I get the "Your pc ran into a problem that it couldn't handle and it needs to restart"
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics SMART test passed, Short DST returns Warning. HP diagnostic smart test returned "no hard disk installed" message one time.
Anything Windows 8 based, whether recovery disk, original media are not able to see hard drive.
I tried booting recovery disk, recovery partition with every combination of Legacy support and Secure boot to recover the partitions without success since the hard drive is not detected (from diskpart list disk command). From the recovery dvds I get a 0xefffff08 error. I also tried to remove the recovery partition thinking it could want to recover from it to get things faster.
Had to format my hard disc and reinstall Windows XP, then upgraded to Win 7. Windows has generic VGA driver that's OK, but it can't run any copmplex videos that it used to be able to run. I know it's 5 years old, but everytime I download stuff for the "specs" listed on website, I can't get anywhere. I'm sure there have been more than one video card integrated into the board, but I don't know where else to turn!

I purchased a new hard drive but to my surprise, all recovery disks or system image files are useless without the recovery partition on the drive. It appears that HP and Microsoft teamed up to not support hard drive failure. As you no longer get the original operating system on disk anymore, it looks like one is forced to purchase Windows again after hard drive failure.

I have a HP Envy dv7-7000 series laptop, C2N70UA, running Windows 8.1 and I'm having battery charging issues. It states it's plugged-in and charging. Yet after 4+ hours, the charge level is as it began (7%). I have updated all software; done a "System Diagnostic"; purchased a new battery; the charging adapter is good; BIOS does recognized the new battery and not the old battery. I have a Installed Windows 8 on my Dell Inpiron N5110 Laptop. It was working fine but since last 3 or 4days it is having some issue. Each time when i start my PC it shows me an error with blue screen which has written
KERNEL-SECURITy_CHECK_FAILURE
at last line of Error.
I tried Re Installing Windows 8 but still the same issue. Also tried Installing Windows 7 but When Windows 7 Installation Finishes the System Restarts and Shows a blue Purple (Dark Blue) saying Your System BIOS is not ACPI Compliant.
I have tried Installing Windows 7 and Windows 8 several time but still the issue persists.

I have a Dell N5050, still under warranty. I was using the laptop tonight when it started beeping and shut down. I restarted and again had the beeping for a few seconds.
The Dell logo appeared and then: PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM. Reboot and select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.
I ran BIOS and passed all tests except that the hard drive was not detected.
My WD 320gb hard drive failed for the first time since I got it in January by registering the error 2000 0141.
I phoned dell after it wouldn't turn on again and I reseated the drive, took out battery, powered on to discharge static etc.,
he arranged for a replacement drive to be sent on monday. after that I tried again last night and now it works., typing from it now, and no noises or anything seems to be functioning fine!
So, what should i do now?
install the new drive & all my software - real pain, but knowing new drive won't fail? did the error message mean my current drive is on the way out anyway?
I have a Dell Inspiron N5050. The hard disc of the laptop makes little clicking sound, which can be heard only in silence or if you keep it close to your ear, but yeah it makes those sounds continuously. I bought it last year and I noticed this sound after like 4 months. I have the latest firmware update installed and also checked the hard disc for errors, but that isn't making any effect. It working completely fine. I use it moderately, some Ms office works and a sometimes games too, like about 6 hours a day. No hangs, No high temperature and nothing.
But since I've experienced trouble with the hard disc of a PC (which crashed within days after it started making sounds), i am a little tensed about it. Should i take it to a service center? will a hard disc format be useful. The sound is louder when the device is booting.
I am using windows 7 Home basic SP1 x64, the hard disc is ST 9500325AS 500GB, 2GB RAM.
We've got 2 D430's in house and they are awesome. One of them just had the hard drive stop working and it was confirmed by swapping drives between the two systems. These have a 2.5" proprietary connection and Dell is telling me that there is no way to access the drive to potentially recover the data since its not a standard PATA interface. It's got some really small ribbon connector on the drive that hooks into a custom connection to the D430.
Does anyone have any ideas, or familiarity with how we can get access to this drive so we can run some utilities on it? Dell seems to be of little help here and the D430 simply doesn't recognize the drive at all. I'm not sure I would have bought these systems knowing that this was a potential issue.
I'm hoping there is some know interface that will allow the drive to hook into a standard PATA connection to recover data.
That's was Dell's Diagnostic's (F12) tells me about my Studio 1745 - and no other errors are found. I'm assuming it's has a fried hard drive but how can I be sure before I buy a placement hard drive and install it?
