My hard drive packed up and so I bought another one which is a seagate momentus ST500LM012, 500gb
Now after adding it the machine doesn't get passed the dell screen. Â I've removed the hard drive and got into the bios and then put the hard drive back and nothing detected and also run diagnostics and nothing's detected. I even unscrewed the entire laptop twice and nothing's loose.
That's was Dell's Diagnostic's (F12) tells me about my Studio 1745 - and no other errors are found. I'm assuming it's has a fried hard drive but how can I be sure before I buy a placement hard drive and install it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I got my dell 1558 a week back and I love everything about it. Except for the annoying hard drive vibration I can feel to the left of the touchpad, a bit on the touchpad and the left side of the keyboard.
Initially, my research said it was an issue with the Seagate 7200s, so I got a WD Scorpio Blue 5400RPM, Cloned my existing hard drive and used that. After re-seating it again, the vibration had become less but still noticible.
I also found out that if I applied pressure/weight to the left of the touchpad, the vibration would be gone.
Anyway, I want to know if other Studi 1558 owners are noticing the same issue or not?
Dell Inspiron N5050 crashed and upon boot, I got this black screen. Upon seeing this, I did a diagnostics test. I did both a thorough and quick test and got this message showing that the hard drive didn't exist. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to fix this or do I need to replace the hard drive?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell N5050, still under warranty. I was using the laptop tonight when it started beeping and shut down. I restarted and again had the beeping for a few seconds.
The Dell logo appeared and then: PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM. Reboot and select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.
I ran BIOS and passed all tests except that the hard drive was not detected.
I got my Studio 15 notebook yesterday.
Whenever I power on my notebook. I hear one sound twice for a second. There after on 'Dell' screen I hear it once again just before Windows 7 startup screen appears. I think it's from slot optical drive.
Am I correct?
I have never used a notebook before.
So kindly tell me is this normal ? Do optical drives in notebooks make such sounds at startup as well as more noise while using (compared to desktops)
I have upgraded to Windows 8 on my Dell Studio 1558 recently. After the upgrade, none of my USB drives are working. I have tried to search on the net as well, but no success.

The computer had randomly rebooted during working on it, I remember having read an IO error message in a windows popup. Since then, it continuously reboot, tries to load windows, fails and reboot until automatic repair kicks in.

Bios system log has many warnings/error: 03F0, 03F1, 0021. Â I got about 3 times a hard disk not found error on POST.

I am unable to repair the installation whether from the recovery partition or from recovery discs, Â I get "The drive is locked error" or "Automatic repair could not repair your pc".
Also recovery manager can't find the recovery partition. On command prompt, diskpart does not list disk;  "There are no fixed disk to show".

However, Ubuntu live cd and Mini xp are able to see every partitions, show files and read them, Â a fast HDtune read test shows no disk error.
The computer is able to read from hard drive since I am able to get on recovery and windows tries to load until I get the "Your pc ran into a problem that it couldn't handle and it needs to restart"

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics SMART test passed, Short DST returns Warning.  HP diagnostic smart test returned "no hard disk installed" message one time.

Anything Windows 8 based, whether recovery disk, original media are not able to see hard drive. Â

I tried booting recovery disk, recovery partition with every combination of Legacy support and Secure boot to recover the partitions without success since the hard drive is not detected (from diskpart list disk command).  From the recovery dvds I get a 0xefffff08 error. I also tried to remove the recovery partition thinking it could want to recover from it to get things faster.
i have dell studio 1558 system.i have replaced dvd drive in warranty period. i wanted to upgrade dvd drive firmware because i am unable to read some dvd's. the problem is that, on dell website after putting service tag number for drivers, list shows dvd drive firmware for old dvd drive i.e tsst firmware.

I would like to know if a USB drive can be made bootable using Windows 7 Re-installation DISC given along with my Dell 1558 Laptop and can be used for clean installation of Windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI hate for this to be my first post, but after looking everywhere on the internet and on this site (I've been lurking a while) I'm still at the same place I started with my Studio 15 laptop. I'll try to include as much detail as possible.
I had my laptop plugged into my LCD tv via an HDMI cable as I often do, and when I went to close the laptop to use just the LCD, the tv flashed, showed a blue screen of death for a quick second and then went black. I opened the laptop and it was still on, but the screen wouldn't go on.
I restarted my computer and from there on out it kept making a beeping noise and stalling for a really long time at the "Dell Studio/progress bar" screen. After leaving it at that screen for a while the clicking stop and then it allowed me to access the Boot Options and Setup. Under setup, when I click on the drive under SATA hard drive, it shows something like 10GB and nothing more, and I have no options on the screen .....
I'm having software related issues with my sxps 16 that I can't seem to resolve, so I'm probably going to wipe the hard drive and do a fresh install of vista. Can someone tell me how to format the hard drive? I've reformatted hard drives before, but I've always hooked it up to my desktop as a secondary drive to do so.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWas working fine. When I turn the machine on it freezes on the dell splash screen about 60% threw. When the hard drive is out the computer boot fine. (obviously no OS though). The hard drive is also making a beeping noise. Dell said they would send me a new hard drive, but I want to know what caused this as of yesterday when I received it I did a diagnostics and the hard drive was in perfect condition. These things happened today could they have caused it?
1) Laptop did not go to sleep in my backpack and was totally on for about 15min. (Overheat?)
2) Windows froze today and I had to hold down the power button to turn it off.
3) I had used another Dell power supply to power my machine as I did not have the regular cord, but it worked while attached and this problem did not happen till around 30-40min later after it had been unplugged.

The problem is that Dell doesn't seem to sell it in Ireland. Is there any way I can get it? Is there an alternative adapter to connect a sata drive to the connector present on the laptop?
This thing is only a week old.
Anyway, he has yet to install anything beyond what came with the laptop and he commented that a antivirus scan took 8+ hours to run.
That seemed incredible to me so I went over and we ran a few benchmarks and the results were frighteningly bad.
Using HDTune, the normal curve one sees of a declining arch is rife with drastic spikes all the way through with minimum of 2.2 MB/sec (seems VERY low), and a maximum of 65 MB/sec (normalish).
Additionally, the CPU usage was 11.9 percent, which seems unusually high.
My BRAND NEW Studio 1555 has been clicking/whirring rapidly since I first turned it on Friday.
Occasionally it gets so fast that it sounds like it's buzzing and it also sometimes sounds like it's creaking.
I own a Dell Studio 15 and I saw that the hard drive led keeps blinking at about 1 blink / second even when the computer is absolutely doing nothing.
Also I can hear some noise (I suppose it is the hard disk moving) from about 50 cm distance from the laptop.
This happens with Vista, XP, Linux (I tried some distribution: Mandriva, X/K/Ubuntu, PcLinux, Mint...)
Has anybody experienced this strange behaviour on his laptop ?
Maybe I'm missing something.
I ordered a Dell 1537 laptop with a 320GB hard drive.
The laptop arrived yesterday, and I checked its hard drive's size, which showed 288GB, of which 269 is free.
I just wanted to know if my dell studio 1735 had an USB 3.0 entry? I want to buy an external hard drive and I need this information.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been looking at a Studio 1737 laptop for a friend. Iniitally it wasn't booting, and it looked like a hard disk failure. I removed the disk and tried it on an external USB to SATA connector, and couldn't access it from there either.
I ordered a new SATA drive and installed it. Tried to install Vista back from the recovery disks, but it couldn't detect a drive. Checked in BIOS and it wasn't listed. Changed the BIOS setting to IDE, but still not found. I returned that one and purchased another, but the same problem. That disk was also returned and has been tested OK.
I'm suspecting that there may another issue, but i'm not sure where to look.
I was trying to update my old studio 1737, and updated the BIOS to A09 while doing an otherwise thorough and effective diagnostic (from Dell website). Now when the BIOS does identify my hard drive its inaccurate (intermittent ID of the HDD, showing no HDD sometime and a Samsung other times). So, laptop fails to boot, saying operating system not found. Am trying to flash BIOS using last working version on USB stick, following advice found on internet. Well out of warranty period.

I've worked on many PCs and LTs before and loaded software so I know the basics and then some. Problem is, when the LT boots from the OS from an external dvd drive -Win 7 64 Â when it attempts a write to the hard drive at the same point in the installation every time it blue screens then reboots. I cannot capture the blue screen info due to the immediate reboot. I have tried many utilities and other hard drives but the LT wont let me write to the hd to load an OS. I tried loading a hd from another pc then install it into this LT, Â same results blue screen then reboot. Very strange as if the LT wont allow a new hard drive or OS to be loaded. I've been trying to get this loaded for a week now and have tried everything. The hd was even DoD low level formatted too. Is there s Dell disk I need to get it started ?

The 2nd hard drive shows up in the "Hardware Manager" but it doesn't show up as a drive under "My Computer
I just installed new HHD; trying to reinstall Windows Vista Home Premium 64BIT SP1 from Reinstallation DVD of the Dell Studio 1537; I get twoerrors:
1-This computer’s hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk’s controlleris enabled in the computer’s BIOS menu. How can I tell the disk is enabled?
2 - Windows is unable to find a system volume that meets its criteria for installation. What? My HDDisk size is 298.1GB free space?
I have a DELL XPS L502X with recently its hard disk not getting detected a week ago... With some movement  or so ... It finally detected .. This happened to me 3 times earlier but probably after an hour or so .. It was back to normal... But this time the same thing repeated , it could not move Out of  boot ... I found that from boot menu it shows FIXED HDD : none , which tells the hard disk is not getting detected ..

Actions Taken: Mopped up quickly and let Laptop dry out.
Initially Laptop booted and I managed to email 2 important documents to myself (must be more religious with my backups).
Laptop started making a whirring noise (Hard disk problem?)
Keyboard "interesting" and will need replacing
Rebooted laptop and get to Blue Boot Menu
Perform Diagnostics and get the warning (!) No Hard Drive Detected - all other tests (including memory) PASS
Have tried booting from my restore disc - but, unsurprisingly no Hard Drive Detected
Have removed Hard Drive and carefully and gently cleaned with cotton cloth
Replaced - same problem
Have tried Hard Disk in second HDD slot - same problem.
My plan is to buy a new Hard Disk (along with a Key Board)....

View 9 Replies View Relatedi decided this was a good place to ask since the cd came with my system. like titles says i open program says no drive detected. well i know the drive is there. i have put a blank dvd there and started writing with dvd + rw dvds. well it doesnt let me erase with out roxio. so how do i fix the roxio problem. i heard of the PX engine i downloaded it and i got a message that said
"unable to write the current directory, this installation file needs to be able to read/write the current directory,. please change the premissions for the directory to move the installer to a location that has the proper read/write permissions"

I will have to try to call them and order rather than order via the website directly as I want the Windows 7 Home Premium install and all the accompanying software to be in English (I live in Italy and that's the reason for the italian info in the configurations).

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with their Studio 1558 orders? I ordered on 23/02 and the EDD was 09/03, but it's now been put back to the 01/04!
The only custom components I requested were the FullHD WLED screen and the backlit keyboard. I have to say I'm not very impressed!
