Dell XPS L502X :: Hard Disk Is Not Getting Detected?
Feb 6, 2014
I have a DELL XPS L502X with recently its hard disk not getting detected a week ago... With some movement  or so ... It finally detected .. This happened to me 3 times earlier but probably after an hour or so .. It was back to normal... But this time the same thing repeated , it could not move Out of  boot ... I found that from boot menu it shows FIXED HDD : none , which tells the hard disk is not getting detected ..
I'm currently using an external disk as back-up with Time machine and I also put movies on it to declutter my laptop. I recently noticed when trying to share a movie with a friend that it's not detected by PCs.
Is there a way to do so without having to erase the disk?
Dell Inspiron N5050 crashed and upon boot, I got this black screen. Upon seeing this, I did a diagnostics test. I did both a thorough and quick test and got this message showing that the hard drive didn't exist. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to fix this or do I need to replace the hard drive?
My hard drive packed up and so I bought another one which is a seagate momentus ST500LM012, 500gb
Now after adding it the machine doesn't get passed the dell screen. Â I've removed the hard drive and got into the bios and then put the hard drive back and nothing detected and also run diagnostics and nothing's detected. I even unscrewed the entire laptop twice and nothing's loose.
I have a Dell N5050, still under warranty. I was using the laptop tonight when it started beeping and shut down. I restarted and again had the beeping for a few seconds.
The Dell logo appeared and then: PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM. Reboot and select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.
I ran BIOS and passed all tests except that the hard drive was not detected.
That's was Dell's Diagnostic's (F12) tells me about my Studio 1745 - and no other errors are found. I'm assuming it's has a fried hard drive but how can I be sure before I buy a placement hard drive and install it?
I purchased a new Pavilion 15-p080ca Windows 8 laptop from tigerdirect.ca and received it a couple of days ago. Â The computer had randomly rebooted during working on it, I remember having read an IO error message in a windows popup. Since then, it continuously reboot, tries to load windows, fails and reboot until automatic repair kicks in. Â Bios system log has many warnings/error: 03F0, 03F1, 0021. Â I got about 3 times a hard disk not found error on POST. Â I am unable to repair the installation whether from the recovery partition or from recovery discs, Â I get "The drive is locked error" or "Automatic repair could not repair your pc".
Also recovery manager can't find the recovery partition. On command prompt, diskpart does not list disk;  "There are no fixed disk to show".  However, Ubuntu live cd and Mini xp are able to see every partitions, show files and read them,  a fast HDtune read test shows no disk error.
The computer is able to read from hard drive since I am able to get on recovery and windows tries to load until I get the "Your pc ran into a problem that it couldn't handle and it needs to restart"  HP PC Hardware Diagnostics SMART test passed, Short DST returns Warning.  HP diagnostic smart test returned "no hard disk installed" message one time.  Anything Windows 8 based, whether recovery disk, original media are not able to see hard drive.   I tried booting recovery disk, recovery partition with every combination of Legacy support and Secure boot to recover the partitions without success since the hard drive is not detected (from diskpart list disk command).  From the recovery dvds I get a 0xefffff08 error. I also tried to remove the recovery partition thinking it could want to recover from it to get things faster.
i have a inspiron e1705. i dont not have many big programs. some of them include Age of Empires III and an expansion pack, itunes, garmin software for my gps, java, office (excel, powerpoint and word), firefox and ie,

i have also just recently formatted my computer. any ideas as to why it is so full, and how i can create more room? do i just have to delete some things?
when i start my laptop i straight to media direct and it show me can't detect hard drive.
when i try to reformat, it can format it, but when i install windows. it say, some drive meet criteria can't finish installation. @@

I am planning to buy New Dell Inspiron 15 series 7000. I would want to replace the harddisk with SSD by next year or so. But i wanted to know if i can have SSD along with hard disk in this laptop.
I wanted both good performance along with large storage. So i was wondering if i can have two disks at once.
Is it possible to install a second hard disk in E4300?
Earlier the option used to be available whilst configuring the E4300 online to add a second 1.8inch hard disk. Now it is no longer there. Can the same be ordered through a Dell rep? What exactly is it that comes when you order this?
I will be grateful if someone can share this info. This will be the deal maker/breaker for me on the E4300.
My Studio originally had a Toshiba, 5400 rpm 250 gb drive in it.
I bought a Western Digital 7200 rpm 360 gb drive to add to my laptop. I also got the carrier assembly from Dell and I installed the Western Digital into the Studio 17 in drive bay 1 , and put the Toshiba into Drive bay 2.
I had made an image of my C drive with Vista on it, and after installing the new hard drive I put the image onto the Western Digital drive, and all seemed to be well, I booted up and get into Vista, but now I see the C:
local hard drive shows exactly what I had before, and Vista is showing my new drive as Drive F: but it also has all my files on it exactly as the original C image that I made .....

My motherboard on a Dell XPS M1530 (configuration below) does not recognize the hard disk.
I checked the hard drive and it is working well so I concluded it is the motherboard. I need advise on how much a new motherboard would cost, which motherboard I need, and whether it is worth going through a repair/replacement.
I gave the laptop (it is out of warranty, but with the cause being water damage the warranty would most probably be void anyway) to a repair shop and they want $349 to attempt a repair or $149 to replace it with a new one (this does not include the cost of a new motherboard).
I was looking for one on ebay, however I am not sure if it will be compatible with my configuration.
I would appreciate if anyone who had the same problem or experience with a similar issue can provide any input. Here is the configuration: ...
I am having a problem with this beast. I was playing MW2 and suddenly, the laptop stopped responding. The whole thing was just frozen. Nothing I could do but press the power button to turn it off.
After that, I turn it on and got the message: "internal hard disk not found To resolve this issue, try to reseat the drive No bootable devices-- strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics."
I was thinking about "reseating" the hard drive but do not dare to do so. What could it happen if the laptop just sat on the table all the time. Under it is a cooler. I did not even touch the keyboard ( I use a wireless one). Any idea how to fix it.
Is it possible to put an additional hard disk in an inspiron 15R - 5521? I would like to put a SSD in it, but would like to keep the 1TB disk that is currently in it.
I have diagnose my system with dell system detect and with window diagnose tool and find that there are some bad sectors in my hard disk, how can i recover them and also some of my friend remove my window 7 Â home edition and install window 7 ultimate edition in my laptop Inspiron N5010Â so can I again remove and reinstall the home edition in my laptop and how to remove bad sectors cause i can't afford new hard drive right now ....
One day I came home and opened my laptop to see a black screen with a blue bar and white font saying Harddisk Security SAT Port 0 Hitachi HTS723232A7ALock. I don't know what to do, nobody put a password on it, and the manual doesn't give a password.
I would like a big hard drive, but it seems like those bigger than 750 GB are 12 mm, not 9 mm. But can I use that as a secondary hard drive on the Precision?
I currently have a Dell Inspiron 1720 with a second hard disk I bought and fitted myself. If I get a Studio 17, will I be able to fit this hard disk into the second bay in there? As far as I'm aware the disk itself should be okay, but the caddy might be slightly different for that model - is that right? If so I'll just buy a new caddy or modify this one - otherwise I'll be £100 down for this hard disk!
I have a 2.5 year-old Dell Inspiron 640M (the US model number might be different). I had originally purchased it for writing e-mails. Over the past 2 months, I have been using it for heavy work loads such as financial modelling.
My typical use is : 2-3 large spreadsheets open 4-5 PDFs open 8 tabs of web pages on CHROME VLC to play music in the background. Access + VBA editor.
Although I have 2 Gb and a 1.66GHz processor (T5500), I find the HDD LeD blinking all the time and I have to really wait for the OS to refresh the screen .....
