I'm currently using an external disk as back-up with Time machine and I also put movies on it to declutter my laptop. I recently noticed when trying to share a movie with a friend that it's not detected by PCs.
Is there a way to do so without having to erase the disk?
way to import a .AVI file into the iTunes movie Library. I tried to drag and drop it, copy and paste, and it didn't work. Would there be an easier way to make an .AVI file into a .m4v, and then import it that way?

Is there any way I can copy the entire contents of the hard disk onto an external USB hard disk (everything so that I don't lose desktop icons, filing structure e.t.c.) and then restore it when I get a new machine?
My work has a site license for photoshop cs4, will the serial number work with the mac version?

This happened to me 3 times earlier but probably after an hour or so .. It was back to normal... But this time the same thing repeated , it could not move Out of boot ... I found that from boot menu it shows FIXED HDD : none , which tells the hard disk is not getting detected ..
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Inspiron 5520, with Win 7 Home premium 64 bit and an external Western Digital HDD My passport Essential SE (3.0). The laptop is fairly new, I purchased it last June. From first day it seemed that something was wrong with the connection with the hdd. In case I was even touching the cable of the hdd it was disconnecting for example, and since yesterday it doesn't detect it at all!
The light of the hdd goes on, and I can feel it working, but I get no beep sound on my computer, I dont see the drive on device manager, and in general its nowhere!
I tried the hdd in all four USB ports and nothing. The drive has no problem on other computers (with OS Vista and Win 7). My mouse works perfectly on all four usb ports.I updated the drivers for BIOS and chipset, I run pc check up. I checked both laptop and drive with antivirus and antispyware programs. I reinstalled the driver from WD website.
I downloaded VLC as a movie viewer. I used to used Media Player, which I understand and was easy to make playlists. However, most times I start a downloaded movie it plays in QuickTime, which I hate. How can I make VLC my default movie player? I am using Safari.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 on my Macbook Pro (15", 2.8Ghz, nVidia 9600M GT), but under Preferences>Performance, the GPU Settings section is greyed out with the message: "Graphics hardware acceleration is unavailable. You will need to upgrade your video driver and possibly your video card."
I have tried re-installing Photoshop, trashing preference files etc. But the problem still exists. I can't find anything on the web about the 9600M GT or the 9400M not being recognised by Phothop CS4, so what could be causing this?

I hope to gather the few (?) fellows who have done this for exchanging benchmark results and share possible issues.
I have to 9400s, and I have modded one to fit the dual heatpipe - I am running that one with a 7900gtx, but it's dying.
Instead of going for another 7xxx series card, I would rather put in an FX1600m. I don't have the card yet, though, so I would like to know how happy you guys are with this setup, and what other mods you needed to get it done.
Read that BIOS had to be flashed - A09 is the latest motherboard BIOS that I know of, and haven't found any modded MOB BIOSes so far; and I only have BIOS for 7xxx VGAs. Is there sg new, did you flash it to 8700?
just wondering how you guys get on with modern games with the ati gpu as i may have to get one of these machines and any performance indicators would be nice to see

I have run memory and gpu tests showing good results.
Thinking I need to change allocated share of RAM in BIOS up from 128. Cannot access that field. Cannot find internet solution to get to that field. Thinking perhaps setting it to 256 or 512. Do not game on this computer. Do not do heavy post processing of images. Do multi task.
Is this intermittent shutdown of the display a known issue?
Im trying to set up an ad-hoc connection to share internet between my laptop and another laptop but it will not let me turn my internet connection sharing on, when i go into adapter settings my wireless network connection has a red 'X' next to it and if I run the diagnostics its tells me 'problem with wireless adapter or access point' and I cannot connect to any wireless connections either, i have an internal Dell Wireless 1702 802.11 b/g/n on windows 7 home premium edition, All drivers are up to date and I am using a Del N7110.

Both Ethernet and WiFi are listed as private networks, so I would think they have the same settings. How can I get Windows sharing to work over WiFi?
I have tonnes of home video clips which can't be more than 6 hours total in recording but are actually frikkin 15GB total in size.
I copied them on my HD straight from the camcorder, and now I need to make a DVD out of it. Now I realize no DVD in the world will hold 15GB, but the thing is, as I said its just 5-6 hours and its 15GB because its uncompressed.
So I need a software which'll do the dirty work for me: compress and make one DVD out of these clips.
I'd like the DVD to have the feature of being able to let me skip to different video clips etc. by clicking "previous" "next".
I'm encoding MKV to PS3AVCHD and the temp for the GPU is hovering around 90C. I will be encoding it for ~12 hours.
Should I be concern about it? The palm rest doesn't get too warm
just curious. read the review that the 9-cell can last 4 hours. wondering how the 6-cell will last.

I purchased this model primarily to evaluate the 128GB SSD. This configuration has two 64GB Samsung MMCRE28G drives configured in RAID0 (Stripe). I'll post a new thread on my findings this weekend, if somebody else doesn't beat me to the punch. I also have a VPCZ11FHX/XQ on order with the 512GB SSD.
I DON'T HAVE MANY COMMENTS ON THE MACHINE AS I JUST FINISHED TAKING THE PICTURES BELOW. I will say that the previous generation Z charger works with the new Z. I haven't taken the new one out of the box.
I also have a video of the first-boot sequence that I'll try to upload this evening. In addition, I did a video showing the duration from power-on to loading Windows with the RAID prompt enabled and disabled. This will go in the SSD thread.
To me asthetics are important for the setup of my machine. Call me vain but the whole point of buying apple is the looks and i've been trying to find a external HDD that matches the setup that i have with no avail. I looked at the G-Tech External HDD but they were too expensive. I managed to find somthing by a company called Lindy that makes a HDD enclosure that resembles a Mac Mini Lindy Mini HDD

I have 2 external HDDs.
My 2TB drive is formatted in NTFS, and is used by anyone in the house for backups etc.
Hence I would prefer to keep it as NTFS.
I understand Macs can access NTFS drive data, but cannot write to them. Will I be able to write to the drive through a Windows Boot Camp installation as normal?
My second external HDD is a portable My Passport 500GB, which would be used by the Mac only - so Im assuming HFS+ would be the best format for it?
I am thinking buying a 500GB 2.5" WD HD for my macbook and taking out the original HD. Can I swap the macbook HD with the PS3 120G HD? so I can download more contents from PSN.
View 7 Replies View Relatedto verify my USB External Harddrive using disk utility. during the verifying phase, the disk utilty stops and says that there is something wrong with the volume and cannot continue. so after thats done, i click "repair volume" during the checking, it founds and error "Volume Header needs minor repair". it repairs the problem and eventually it ends up with "1 volume passed verification". what could have caused this? anyone else ever got this? -how? is this means that there is something corrupt with the drive data? after i click repair; would everything be all right again? i found something on the net which i found interesting;

When i try to play a 1080p movie over hdmi on my tv, it doesn't run smoothly ( i think its called framedrops?)
The videocard is a 9300m GS and since i've got hybrid graphics, a driver update is not possible.
The laptop is a vaio z21wn.
I've tried multiple things (coreAVC, MPC, VLC, etc..) but none seem to give better output.
Are there other solutions to this problem?
