Dell :: Encoding Movie With High Temp
Jan 9, 2009I'm encoding MKV to PS3AVCHD and the temp for the GPU is hovering around 90C. I will be encoding it for ~12 hours.
Should I be concern about it? The palm rest doesn't get too warm

Mar 11, 2009i just received my sxps 16 ... generally very happy with it ..but when the cpu in full load for like 5 mins .. the cpu temp will shoot to very high about 85'C ..is it normal ?

Apr 18, 2010I have my m1530 for almost two years, and in last 2 months (after I've installed windows 7) i'm having troubles with my graphic card (nvidia g8600m gt). The problem is that in every game after few minutes there is a sudden drop of FPS. For example if i have a FPS of 50 after 2-5 minutes it goes down to 20. I checked my CPU and Memory load but there is nothing strange.
I have latest Nvidia drivers: 197.16
I also included as attachment a log file of GPU load and temp after playing 10 minutes of CoD 5.
Dell :: M1330 Cpu Temp Too High
Sep 16, 2009I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the heatsink on my m1330. It seems like the fan never turns off of full and the palm resets are always pretty warm (although it is summer and I don't use my AC).
I idle around 54C on both cores of my t8300. Is this normal or should I replace the thermal pad/paste?

Mar 11, 2009So I have had a few hp laptops now. My G60-125NR is the hottest one I have. I ran speed fan just to see if it would work on it, it came up with a high temp of 95+*C and a low of 57*C. Is this normal? The temp is at 80*C while I'm typing this right now. Its on a hard table, with clean vents...

Apr 5, 2010I downloaded CPUID and ran it to see what it would report for GPU temp. It's running between 80 and 84 degrees C. My notebook is sitting on a cooling pad I bought a few months ago; it has two small fans, powered by USB. I don't the cooling pad helps much, only a slight benefit. CPU temps (two cores) usually run in low 50's, fluctuating from high 40's to about 57, as notebook fan kicks on and off. The notebook fan does not run excessively, in my opinion; it usually only needs to run a few seconds before it stops and the frequency of it kicking on is not too high, I believe. Actually, with the high temp reading for GPU, I'm surprised the main fan does not run more often and for longer durations. Again, the cooling pad makes little difference in frequency and duration of main fan.
The GPU in this notebook PC is nVidia GeForce Go 6100. I bought this computer is July 2007. I've never checked GPU temp before. The video driver was updated at least once since I've owned it. I could roll back the video driver and see whether that would make any difference. Or, I could update to a later version; Windows Updates has been showing a video driver as an optional update for quite some time but I have not installed it. Or, should I visit nVidia's website and search for a driver update.......

On my desktop I use "dtemp", to show the harddrive temp in the sys tray, but dtemp cant read the hdd temp on my HP
And an another program for showing the cpu load or/and cpu clock in the sys tray..? tried NHC 2 pre 06, but it hangs when I go to settings to configure the program..
Apple :: MBP Display Going Blank While Encoding
Nov 13, 2009While encoding long items on my macbook pro; if I don't keep moving the trackpad every so often, once the display goes to sleep, it won't come back on. This is after encoding for about 2 or more hours. It seems its still working, as the fan is still spinning, but the light on the front is on also....not sure why....
Any ideas? If I set the display not to sleep, it may make a difference, but I want it to sleep after a while when I'm not encoding, so seems pointless to keep switching.
I have to hold the power button in to turn it off then back on again. The whole laptop does get luke warm by this time also.
Could I be pushing it too far..... surely the laptop can cope going full tilt for a few hours....bad design otherwise? Anyone else do video encoding on their mbp's?

Apple :: Burning - There Was An Error In Encoding
Apr 5, 2010I got a film file, and I've made a menu for it on iDVD.
It's a .dvdproj file, and the file is small enough to fit on my 4.7GB DvD-R disc.
I've got it open in iDVD, and I've clicked the little Nuclear icon next to the Preview or PLAY icon. But it keeps saying "There was an Error in Encoding" or something alike when it gets to the end of the Menu burning process.
Dell :: Creating A DVD Out Of Several Movie Clips
Dec 22, 2009I have tonnes of home video clips which can't be more than 6 hours total in recording but are actually frikkin 15GB total in size.
I copied them on my HD straight from the camcorder, and now I need to make a DVD out of it. Now I realize no DVD in the world will hold 15GB, but the thing is, as I said its just 5-6 hours and its 15GB because its uncompressed.
So I need a software which'll do the dirty work for me: compress and make one DVD out of these clips.
I'd like the DVD to have the feature of being able to let me skip to different video clips etc. by clicking "previous" "next".

Mar 26, 2013It is an automatic drive. My computer says the bluray drive is working right. Tried right clicking and ejecting and hitting the eject button. It is an automatic slot drive. Tried windows software to find problem and it couldn't work either. It worked just 10 mins before it happened. It is a windows 8 pro OS. HL-DT-ST DVDRWBD CA10N is the drive windows calls it.

Dec 27, 2014Inspiron 17R N7110 has no power, I was watching movie and the laptop just froze, after waiting a few minutes I performed a hard power reset, machine was restarting, abruptly shut off and has been dead since.
Tried the power reset by removing the battery and holding the power button for the static discharge ... and so on. No luck. Machine has no lights on front, it is completely dead, battery was 100% charged. Tried two charger cables, both have green lights till I plug them into the machine then green lamps die.
I think it would be the DC power connector or the motherboard... or something else that I have not thought of yet.

I purchased this model primarily to evaluate the 128GB SSD. This configuration has two 64GB Samsung MMCRE28G drives configured in RAID0 (Stripe). I'll post a new thread on my findings this weekend, if somebody else doesn't beat me to the punch. I also have a VPCZ11FHX/XQ on order with the 512GB SSD.
I DON'T HAVE MANY COMMENTS ON THE MACHINE AS I JUST FINISHED TAKING THE PICTURES BELOW. I will say that the previous generation Z charger works with the new Z. I haven't taken the new one out of the box.
I also have a video of the first-boot sequence that I'll try to upload this evening. In addition, I did a video showing the duration from power-on to loading Windows with the RAID prompt enabled and disabled. This will go in the SSD thread.

Jan 1, 2009I downloaded VLC as a movie viewer. I used to used Media Player, which I understand and was easy to make playlists. However, most times I start a downloaded movie it plays in QuickTime, which I hate. How can I make VLC my default movie player? I am using Safari.

Mar 17, 2010When i try to play a 1080p movie over hdmi on my tv, it doesn't run smoothly ( i think its called framedrops?)
The videocard is a 9300m GS and since i've got hybrid graphics, a driver update is not possible.
The laptop is a vaio z21wn.
I've tried multiple things (coreAVC, MPC, VLC, etc..) but none seem to give better output.
Are there other solutions to this problem?

Is there a way to do so without having to erase the disk?

May 12, 2008I've got a e1705 with a FX 2500M in it . 2G of ram, and a T2400 intel processor.
I got a copy of Neverwinter Nights 2 for free, so I went to play it. I was cruising along making my character, when my laptop shut off! I restarted, and it said it stopped because of temperature. So, I started up core temp so I could watch the temp, and restarted the game. Once I got into the game, and it's all that was running, neither of my cores went above 110 degrees F. Then, it shut down again. I was not running all the 'options' to make it pretty, but I was running it at 1920x1200. I dropped it down some so I could monitor the temps (same ratio, just a little smaller).
I updated my drivers to the newest MovileForce Drivers, and want to retest, but figured I'd also watch my card temps, to see if that was causing the shutdown?
I installed fangui, and no gpu temp is listed. I also was going to try nvtemplogger, but it said something like my card isn't capable of temperature monitoring?
So, how do I monitor it? Does my card have the ability to output it's temp to one of the tools?
Dell :: XPS M1530 Temp Readings
May 9, 2009I just opened up Speedfan and HWMonitor at the same time, and I notice they give different readings.
I've seen Speedfan report the CPU temp as high as 90. Whilst the machine is warm, I highly doubt this is correct.
I've had the machine on my lap whilst doing this and yeah, its pretty warm, but its not boiling ..
Dell :: Xps 1340 Temp Goes Up When Idle
Mar 20, 2010I have a Dell XPS 1340, P8700, 9500M GS.
I noticed that when idle the temperature slowly goes up to 65C, then the fan kicks in, lowers it to 45 and stops. The temperature goes up again and in about 2 minutes it is already 65 again.
The process repeats indefinitely.
