Dell :: M4400 Temp
Dec 2, 2008
i thought my air-intake was pretty hot so i checked with speedfan - and i get 47 idle on my CPU! (Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2.53GHz) is that normal?
Also my GPU is at 52 (FX1770)
Might need a BIOS update or?

With my Asus I was tracking my GPU temp while gaming with RivaTuner (I'd go back and check temp history from a graph)...what is the best free program to use for my precision these days?

When Im watching and HD movie or editing HD video material at some point the playback starts to halt and hiccup. Ive noticed that it happens when the GPU core temps hit 75 to 80. If I then wait a while and it goes down to 72 everything works fine again.
Is my computer downclocking maybe? Can I do anything to make it more stable, I dont mind if the fan works a bit more.

I have a two month old M4400 with a ST9320423ASG hard-drive that hovers at around 40-41 deg.C (as reported by HDTune) under very light use (basically just Thunderbird and Firefox ).
I'm running Win7Ultimate 64-bit and the power plan is most of the time either on "balanced" or "dell".
This is what hdparm says about this drive (excerpt):
Code:
Advanced power management level: unknown setting (0x8080)
Recommended acoustic management value: 208, current value: 208
I wanted to know whether this temp is considered normal under my described usage conditions and if there's any tweaking that can be done to lower it.
Another bit of interesting information about this drive is that it used to click like crazy when it first came from Dell, until I installed the firmware update in mid Dec. It's been quiet like a mouse since then but I'm wondering if the new firmware could have made it run hotter.

I've got a e1705 with a FX 2500M in it . 2G of ram, and a T2400 intel processor.
I got a copy of Neverwinter Nights 2 for free, so I went to play it. I was cruising along making my character, when my laptop shut off! I restarted, and it said it stopped because of temperature. So, I started up core temp so I could watch the temp, and restarted the game. Once I got into the game, and it's all that was running, neither of my cores went above 110 degrees F. Then, it shut down again. I was not running all the 'options' to make it pretty, but I was running it at 1920x1200. I dropped it down some so I could monitor the temps (same ratio, just a little smaller).
I updated my drivers to the newest MovileForce Drivers, and want to retest, but figured I'd also watch my card temps, to see if that was causing the shutdown?
I installed fangui, and no gpu temp is listed. I also was going to try nvtemplogger, but it said something like my card isn't capable of temperature monitoring?
So, how do I monitor it? Does my card have the ability to output it's temp to one of the tools?

I just opened up Speedfan and HWMonitor at the same time, and I notice they give different readings.
I've seen Speedfan report the CPU temp as high as 90. Whilst the machine is warm, I highly doubt this is correct.
I've had the machine on my lap whilst doing this and yeah, its pretty warm, but its not boiling ..

I have my m1530 for almost two years, and in last 2 months (after I've installed windows 7) i'm having troubles with my graphic card (nvidia g8600m gt). The problem is that in every game after few minutes there is a sudden drop of FPS. For example if i have a FPS of 50 after 2-5 minutes it goes down to 20. I checked my CPU and Memory load but there is nothing strange.
I have latest Nvidia drivers: 197.16
I also included as attachment a log file of GPU load and temp after playing 10 minutes of CoD 5.

I'm wondering if there's something wrong with the heatsink on my m1330. It seems like the fan never turns off of full and the palm resets are always pretty warm (although it is summer and I don't use my AC).
I idle around 54C on both cores of my t8300. Is this normal or should I replace the thermal pad/paste?

I have a Dell XPS 1340, P8700, 9500M GS.
I noticed that when idle the temperature slowly goes up to 65C, then the fan kicks in, lowers it to 45 and stops. The temperature goes up again and in about 2 minutes it is already 65 again.
The process repeats indefinitely.

When i stared this pad everything was nice, notebook worked for 8h no stop, with cpu temp 39c and hdd 34c. When i reboted notebook cpu temp jumped to 51c and hdd was same (about 34). I repeated this and i got 51c again....

i was reading a few other posts about idle temps of the GPU in the XPS 1530 and my temps are way above what everyone else is getting.
I have an idle GPU temp of approx 80-88 degrees celsius. I mean i could maybe expect that under a heavy load, but an idle temp??? The fan seems to be on all the time.

I'm encoding MKV to PS3AVCHD and the temp for the GPU is hovering around 90C. I will be encoding it for ~12 hours.
Should I be concern about it? The palm rest doesn't get too warm

So I used to have a T8785 or whatever it was, 2.0 ghz dual core, and i upgraded to a T9500 2.6 ghz.
Although ever since i installed it, on my CPUID hardware monitor the temps are wildly different per core (at core #0 is 40 and the other is 48 celcius). After awhile the fan stops running, the temps stay the same, increase a little bit perhaps 1-2 degrees (at idle),
and then all of a sudden the values will shoot up to 75-80, the fan will turn on, and they will teleport right down to 50 again, and the fan will stay on for awhile again, then it will rinse and repeat.

I have the Antec cooler, and it is louder than the notebook. So, looks like it will be going back to Staples.
I am looking for suggestions other than SpeedFan which is more than I want. For now,
I would just like some temps and some fan RPMs without going to the BIOS which of course requires rebooting.

Installed the win7 beta on my m1710 yesterday, and after a quick trip to windows update for some drivers, everything worked great with one exception.
Thier is a setting in power management for the processor to throtle the cpu before turning up the fan speed that is enable by default when on battery.
Maybe it was just a fluke with my unit, but when I unplugged it to move to the living room, it got hot, really, really, hot. Way hotter than I've ever felt it get with XP or Vista.

I've noticed my laptop has been running quite hot recently so I downloaded a thing called Speedfan, which tells me my CPU is running at 70-80 degrees C. Isn't this really, REALLY hot for a laptop? I really don't want it to overheat and break
I first noticed it and found that it was maxing out at 82 degrees, and the movie I was watching was getting jumpy. I was using WMP, MSN, Internet explorer for basic browsing, with Vuze running in the background. The most I ever use. This is my specification:
Acer Aspire 5535
4GB RAM DDR2
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core RM70 (2.0GHZ/1MB)
320GB HDD
Shouldn't this laptop be able to handle these tasks without getting so hot?

I'm probably going buy and HP laptop soon, the HDX 16"...
So therefore, I was wondering how the gaming is on your sexy HP. Not graphically wise or fps and such, but temp wise. For instance, how long do you get to game for before things get too hot or do you manage to keep things at decent temps for a full day worth of gaming
Personally I don't play too intensive games, mostly world of warcraft. Nothing hardcore like crysis and stuff. So i'd imagine i'd get some decent gaming hours as long as i keep things cool haha by getting a zalaman pc cooling pad and if i decided to undervolt.

My Idle temp seems to be within the range of:
27C-43C for CPU
44C-51C for GPU
These are temps when I'm not even doing anything. The fan activates when the GPU hits 51C and stops when the GPU temp reaches 44C. The CPU doesn't seem to be a factor in activating the fan.
Use I8Kfangui to see your CPU and GPU temps. Just don't click on AUtomatic Fan Control because that will severely lag your system until you turn it off. http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html
