Apple :: Exif Data In OS X
Jul 28, 2009
I was a windows user before this and all of my photos have been edited with a title, keywords, and notes using the Right Click > Properties > Summary tab in windows. I am 95% sure this embeds the information into the exif data. Is there anyway to continue to do this with OS X or to search this with OS X?
I have found a few programs out there like ExifTool by Phil Harvey but it is a command line program that I am just scared of and then I just ran across MacMetaMod which looks promising....

how to get ALL my data from firefox to safari? (Passwords, History, Bookmarks, Cache...etc) I tried foxmarks but that doesn't bring all my data.
Usally when you start a new browser it ask you if you want to import any thing. But Safari 4 didn't. If I can't do this I will not switch, witch suck because I hear it's good.

When using Migration Assistant between two Macs to transfer applications and data, Apple's instructions indicate you can use an ethernet cable.
Does one use a straight cable, or a crossover cable for this function?

Back in my Windows days and for my servers at work (just a few), I always did the following to do backup:
1) DATA
Use SyncToy or copy the data folders (My Documents, etc.) to an external hard drive
2) OS and APPLICATIONS
Create an image using Acronis's TrueImage, so I don't have to re-install the applications or re-configure the OS
With Time Machine, I know it backups my User folder (Documents, Music, etc.), but does it also backup the computer settings, such that in the case of re-install, I just pop-in the original OSX Installation CD and restore from Time Machine without reconfiguring the OS AND re-installing the application again?
I noticed in the Time Machine hard drive there is also an Applications folder that contains the list of the same applications as installed in my MBP.

I am having a problem with data transfer via eSATA port on my laptop.
Having read many posts on issues with this relatively new interface I contacted Dell and was assured that they were addressed in the new bois.
So I went ahead and purchased a drive with this in mind , but it does not allow data transfer from the computer to the drive ( it will go about 30%-50% of file@29-70 mbps then just stall and the drive disappears.)

I'm planning to kick my Aspire 5024 laptop back to the factory settings, but wanted to put one uncertainty to rest.
I understand C partition will be restored to out-of-box condition and it no longer contains anything important, all is backed up. However, I have run out of storage space with backing up the D-partition. The partitions are as they were when machine was bought.
Will Acer eRecovery touch the D: (DATA) partition if I instruct it to restore the factory setup? I have found multiple references saying both yes and no. Part of it is due to ambiguous language ("all files will be wiped" "the HDD will be in the condition you bought it" vs. assurances that D: is safe)

When my Vaio TX770P crashed and burned recently , I removed the Toshiba 1.8" HDD1584 (80GB with ATA-100 interface and 50-pin female connector). Does anyone know how to recover the data from this disk drive?
I took a chance and tried purchasing a 1.8" ZIF LIF (iPod) HD Enclosure Case for Toshiba, Hitachi, and IBM Drives. Figured I'd take a shot for $13 + S&H since it advertised an easy USB cable interface. Clearly it was not meant to work with a 50-pin f connector though.

I don't have one, but have been thinking about it & researching here. I see that it has a proprietary SSD that is probably not meant to be user serviceable. What do you do if you have sensitive data on there & need to get it repaired whether or not it's a SSD problem?
When I needed to get my Dell service I could easily remove the HDD & they accounted for that. Just googling about this now & I see they even have a policy of replacing your HDD without having to send them the faulty one at least with their business line. HP & Lenovo seem to have the same thing. They all look like an extra level of service you have to pay for though.

you know when you buy a laptop off dell you get pre installed the dell data safe. then all you have to do is click on it and setup an account.
normally there is a subscription for free when you buy your laptop. i lost that icon because of a hard drive wipe.
were do i get that software again? and no dell.com/datasafe dont work. i need the software that you get that will make you an account based on your service tag so it know what to give you for size.

After 2 motherboard replacements my 2yr old dv9000 has fried the motherboard again and is out of the enhanced warranty. It is completely dead, won't power on at all, I'm certain it's the motherboard as the notebook did the same exact thing each time it died. Would the motherboard being fried ruin the hard drive? I've never opened up a notebook before but I'm willing to try. Anyone know of any good basic tutorials for a novice?

I own a Pavilion dv6-7135nr Entertainment PC, running Windows 7. I notice a lot of exclamation marks ! hovering over my question mark from HP Support Assistant. I go there and since I cannot copy and paste it, I will have to type it all out here.
One is for updates, but I see that it did a last check for updates on 6/16/14 and next one scheduled for 6/23/14 and no updates available.I do not see the other message but had to do with backing up my data because I am running low on data space. Nope. I went to My Computer and my C drive is showing: 615 GB free of 676 GB.

Where the software and data for the Dell Latitude E4300 ON-Reader is located?
Is it at the normal hard disk drive located just in a special partition there? Or is there another drive especially for it like a small flash media device or something like that?

I have Dell XPS 2013 laptop purchased in June 2013 with Windows 7 professional OS install in it. Suddenly the laptop stopped working giving an error message with complete black screen:
error: no such partition.
grub rescue >
When I took it to the service center they told me the hard drive of the system might have failed leading to such error. I am still unsure is it due to hard disk failure? On the top of that I have many important working files stored in the system for which I could not able to take back up. Is there any way I can retrieve my files? If I need to purchase a new hard drive which specifications I need to order. Unfortunately the system had only 1-year warranty period...
