View 10 RepliesRecently my games and videos are running real slow on XP.
Especially noticeable while sounds are going, for example on youtube, sounds like its on slow motion.
I'm thinking of buying a new 256GB SSD for my Windows 8 and music files, documents, steam games, etc. But I'm somewhat hesitant because I don't want to lose all of the data and reinstall games. How would I move my OS over to a SSD without losing everything on my hard drive? And is 256GB enough for these staffs?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm planning to kick my Aspire 5024 laptop back to the factory settings, but wanted to put one uncertainty to rest.
I understand C partition will be restored to out-of-box condition and it no longer contains anything important, all is backed up. However, I have run out of storage space with backing up the D-partition. The partitions are as they were when machine was bought.
Will Acer eRecovery touch the D: (DATA) partition if I instruct it to restore the factory setup? I have found multiple references saying both yes and no. Part of it is due to ambiguous language ("all files will be wiped" "the HDD will be in the condition you bought it" vs. assurances that D: is safe)
i've resized my C drive and now i want to use One Key Recovery to restore system to factory settings, does it effect data on other partition drives?

I don't know why my data partition become OEM partition.
I noticed that alot more games are available for mac now than there used to be so I was wondering if I play the same game in windows vs OSX will there be a difference?
I mainly install bootcamp and win 7 for games only on my macbook pro but maybe I wont do that this time if the games run just as good in OSX.
Can I upgrade my dvd Rom to the blu-ray/dvd/Rw slot and I should have done it before ordering the the laptop? So I guess my question is: Is the blu-ray slot something I can order as an upgrade?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to go to iMovie tonight to edit some videos, but when I went to import the video, it wouldn't import them. All it did was say "importing video," then it would say "processing video," and then just quit. It only attempts to import a video for about 15 seconds, then stops.
This is iMovie 08 from the iLife 08 suite.
I was a windows user before this and all of my photos have been edited with a title, keywords, and notes using the Right Click > Properties > Summary tab in windows. I am 95% sure this embeds the information into the exif data. Is there anyway to continue to do this with OS X or to search this with OS X?
I have found a few programs out there like ExifTool by Phil Harvey but it is a command line program that I am just scared of and then I just ran across MacMetaMod which looks promising....
I was just streaming this 500+MB video of Starcraft II off their website, and I was wondering:
Since the video is completely streamed, that means its downloaded, right?
Where would I find the file on my HDD?
I wouldn't want to have to download the whole 500+MB again.
I own an Inspiron 1545 and would like to set-up two profiles, one for use when on battery and one for use when plugged in. Basically,
I want my laptop to run at maximum performance/brighter screen when plugged into the wall and have it run in a power-saving mode when running off the battery.
The Windows7 power options don't seem to be able to differentiate between plugged-in and battery operation. Is there perhaps a program which I can install to do this or is it just not possible??
I'm a PC user, and one of my friend has a Mac book. Recently he lost his data and ask me to recover his data for him but I'm not good at Mac. So, do you guys know how to easily recover all his data? What are the best software to do that?
View 3 Replies View Relatedhow to get ALL my data from firefox to safari? (Passwords, History, Bookmarks, Cache...etc) I tried foxmarks but that doesn't bring all my data.
Usally when you start a new browser it ask you if you want to import any thing. But Safari 4 didn't. If I can't do this I will not switch, witch suck because I hear it's good.
I've noticed that:
1. There is no longer an A/V control panel under "Window" or wherever it formally was, and;
2. Two-fingered scrolling on the touchpad speeds up playback without changing pitch, but as soon as I lift my fingers, 1.0x playback resumes.
Looking to get through some videos at a faster rate. How can I make 1.5x stick? I know QT on Windows can do this easily.
i am trying to play a video on this page: [url]but it says that i am missing a plugin, and when i click to search for the plugin it show me flip4mac, but it doesnt say it supports FF.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've noticed lately that embedded YouTube videos aren't working in Mobile Safari. Now, I know that the iPhone doesn't have flash, but there is an embedded video player that works with mpg videos (HTML5 sites seem to work fine) as well as YouTube. That way you can just click the video in a website and it will open up the standard video player. But none of those work for me on the iPhone.
I also know that not all YouTube videos are properly encoded for the iPhone. But these are videos that work fine in the YouTube app, their thumbnail just won't load in Mobile Safari for me to click. I get the gray box with the line through the play button instead. What's worse, is there are now sites where this happens that I know for a fact used to work fine. But now I can't get a single embedded YouTube video to work on my iPhone. Is anyone else having this problem? Maybe you could go to a site on your iPhone where the embedded video does work and I can check to show you the problem.
I'm using a 3GS with 3.1.2.
I felt in love with the new macbook Aluminum 2.4Ghz. But I just found out that there was not any firewire port in it. It's such a disaster to me .
How can I transfer videos from my MiniDV to Macbook now ?
Any cable or hub can do that?
According to this site [url] they said that there might be a hub to solve my problem! Is it real ?
So, Are these following hubs and cable looks like what they mentioned ?

When using Migration Assistant between two Macs to transfer applications and data, Apple's instructions indicate you can use an ethernet cable.
Does one use a straight cable, or a crossover cable for this function?
I'm willing to purchase my first Macbook Pro, but I have one huge question mark in mind: Will I get to access all my data on my NTFS-formated external hard drives? If so, how, is it natively supported with Mac OS X?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI don't have Win7 installed in a separate partition, and in Paralles I can barely play anything. I do have a desktop PC with a 2.8Ghz Quad and a 500$ Nvidia card that plays mostly anything, but that's not very portable, you can imagine.
So, I plan spending like a couple hours per week gaming, I do not play much and I think it sucks booting into Windows for 20 minutes gaming just to boot back into Mac OSX .... Besides, I hope I don't have to explain myself too much why I stay in OSX .. hopefully not on this forum..
I am mostly looking for action games or cars/simulations. Maybe some strategy games (tried Age of Empires III and it sucks, graphics are like 640x480 with bunch of errors, and the update didn't see the original game installed (demo)).
I have a MBP 2.66Ghz, Nvidia 9600GT 256MB.
Looking at a Macbook Pro with nVidia 9600 512 or Gateway 7805u with 9800 1gig for games like Medal of Honor.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm considering a Macbook Pro 15" or 17" for University. I'm studying Computer Games Design for 3 years, this includes Graphic Intensive work on Photoshop, Maya, 3DS Max and Importing models into Unreal Engine for level creation etc.
Do you think a Macbook Pro would be suitable for these tasks? Otherwise I'm going straight with a PC Laptop, as well over the majority of games are made on PC platforms. I was just interested in the MBP for the Battery life, OS X and all the little quality features it has.
Also would just like to know, how is the battery life on the MBP whilst running in Windows 7?
I am thinking of buying one of the new macbook pro's when they come out soon, hopefully. But, I have one questions. I play WoW and COD4 on my windows desktop. When I switch to mac, can I download the mac version of these games for free and play? Or do I have to buy the mac retail versions?
View 10 Replies View RelatedBack in my Windows days and for my servers at work (just a few), I always did the following to do backup:
1) DATA
Use SyncToy or copy the data folders (My Documents, etc.) to an external hard drive
2) OS and APPLICATIONS
Create an image using Acronis's TrueImage, so I don't have to re-install the applications or re-configure the OS
With Time Machine, I know it backups my User folder (Documents, Music, etc.), but does it also backup the computer settings, such that in the case of re-install, I just pop-in the original OSX Installation CD and restore from Time Machine without reconfiguring the OS AND re-installing the application again?
I noticed in the Time Machine hard drive there is also an Applications folder that contains the list of the same applications as installed in my MBP.
I am looking for away to re-participate my hard drive without re-installing OS X.
I tried to mess around with the disk utility but apparently.
i have a dual boot vista and osx. i want to split up a existing mac osx partition. are there any software under windows vista to do that?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI want to install windows by Bootcamp. But I've found some problem about a partition on my HDD.
My MacbookPro HDD has 27 GB free space remain. And it's has only 1 partition on HDD. I try to create a new partition, 10-15 GB on my HDD for Bootcamp. I just want to run windows for some program, some games. But it always show "verification failed", "don't have enough space", "partition failed"...etc. on bootcamp and disk utility
I've seen some thread about a partition for bootcamp problem on some website. Some solution such as
1. use iDefrag for HDD then try to create a new partition.
2. Shrink your HDD space (disk utility) , revert , then try to create a new partition by Bootcamp.
3. Try to remove some files, that size is over 1 GB, then try to make a new partition.
4. Backup your harddrive, reinstall then try to create a new partition (I don't want to do this)...
