View 10 RepliesI just bought a new Vaio Z! It's amazing but I don't like that Sony created one large C partition. I have the model with a 256GB SSD (128 x 2?). Is there a way that I can keep each drive separate (have C, D drives)? I like keeping my personal data separate from the OS.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am probably stuck with 4 primary partitions (two WINRE, EFI, and C), and unable to split C on a fresh system installation from HP DVDs.
320GB HDD has failed on my G6 2233 HP laptop. I've mounted a 500GB replacement, and done the following things:
installed Windows 8 from the HP System Recovery DVDs (provided by HP, not recorded by me, fresh installation)removed the recovery partition with HP Recovery Managerinstalled all Windows 8 updates, and HP Support Assistant updates upgraded to Windows 8.1installed all Windows 8.1 updates, and HP Support Assistant updatesWent to the system partition tool, to see 4 primary partitions created...
At this point I was unaware, this may be an issue. I've tried to split C as seen on the image. Wasn't able to set desired values (max value was to about two of equal size, due to ummovable files), but that was nothing new for me - on the previous 320GB HDD I've ran into the same issue, as I could (but COULD) do two about 14xGB partions. Here I've wished for 120GB and 344GB.Anyway, even with various values I've got an error on the next step, claiming that there is no room on the HDD.
Then I've decided to try EasyUS software, as it worked for me me in the past.First screen is without any action (there is a bunch of weird partitions there, all created by HP software/OS).
I could choose to decrease the partition size, but option to create on from the unallocated space was not active.
I am confused. If I am not mistaken, I should not remove the two WINRE and one EFI partition, but I either convert C to logical partition (this option is not active on EasyUS (could do that on my USB HDD drive), or remove one or more of the other primary partitions.
Even if I will find a way to convert C to logical, is that safe, and should I after D is created return C to primary?
I've tried to play safe, and let the HP/OS software do the job, and they left me with 4 primary partitions...
OK I've found the guide which sadly does not seem safe... [URL]...
Unfortunately they seem to have different names... What is the EFI partition HP Toolls as mentioned in the guide etc.
I guess I should, after installing Windows 8, and removing the recovery partition, create a new partition then, and upgrade to 8.1...
I have a .iso file that is to large to go onto my FAT 32 HDD as it is more then 4GB in size.
What program can I use to split it into to files and then combine it on my other computer? The other computer is a windows machine.
I think that this feature is really nice in Windows 7 how you are able to split two different windows evenly on the desktop by just dragging each window to the left and right side.
With that being said, are there any programs/apps out there that can mimic this feature for Mac? Specifically the latest OS Snow Leopard?
TwoUp was program capable of doing this but has been discontinued.
Any fellow Mac NBRers know any others?
I am looking for away to re-participate my hard drive without re-installing OS X.
I tried to mess around with the disk utility but apparently.
I want to install windows by Bootcamp. But I've found some problem about a partition on my HDD.
My MacbookPro HDD has 27 GB free space remain. And it's has only 1 partition on HDD. I try to create a new partition, 10-15 GB on my HDD for Bootcamp. I just want to run windows for some program, some games. But it always show "verification failed", "don't have enough space", "partition failed"...etc. on bootcamp and disk utility
I've seen some thread about a partition for bootcamp problem on some website. Some solution such as
1. use iDefrag for HDD then try to create a new partition.
2. Shrink your HDD space (disk utility) , revert , then try to create a new partition by Bootcamp.
3. Try to remove some files, that size is over 1 GB, then try to make a new partition.
4. Backup your harddrive, reinstall then try to create a new partition (I don't want to do this)...
When i created my Bootcamp partition i mde it way too big and i will never use all the space i created. Is there a way to shrink it without losing what i have on that partition?
I tried to shrink it using Winclone but that did not work and if i create a backup using Winclone i believe that when you restore it the partition must be the same size as the original, is this correct?
I came across the VMware guide on installing W7 from within Fusion.
However, I'm curious if it is possible to have Fusion recognize my W7 boot camp parititon and create a virtual machine from that?
With Vista and XP, Fusion was able to automatically detect and set it up for me.
When i first created my Bootcamp partition i made it way too big. Is there a way to re-size it without losing all the data i have on it and return that space to my Mac OS?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWe all know that the f1-f12 keys have their own functions. But I used to always use those keys for other things in World of Warcraft (on a PC that is). Now that I'm on a mac, I can't use the f keys even if I keybind them. Is there a way to disable them for just this program?
And on a side question, is it possible to make a partition with boot camp and then have vmware or parallels run off that partition? Or do I have to install windows twice for boot camp and vmware/parallels?
I wanted to install vista. I did the normal bootcamp procedure but forgot and extracted candy bar at the same time the partition was being created.after the partition was created and the message appeared telling me to insert my windows cd appeared, my mac froze. I held down the power button and forced shut it down. I switched it on again and windows setup started. Everything went on fine and i booted in windows fine. However , when i wanted to enter my os x partition, it would start and go up to the part where the rotating circle would appear. It continued rotating for a long time and then restarted my mac. I tried again several times and it did this. I then booted my mac from the os x install dvd and selected install os x on the windows partition. Setup failed. I launch disk utility and verify and repair disk partition (There was no problem when i did disk check). I restarted my mac and everything booted fine. I now have a new partition labeled "mac os x". I launched bootcamp manager and tried to restore my disk and get the error: "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition: The startup disk must be formatted as a single mac os extended (journaled) volume or already partitoned by Bootcamp Assistant for installing Windows".
How do i format it in this format? Do i have to use the setup disk again or do i use disk utility?
I assume it's impossible to view the other partition tho.
View 7 Replies View Relatedthat is my query, does the OS slow down if you put everything on C:/, is it even called C:/ in OS X?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI partitioned my hard drive for boot camp when I got it, and used Windows for a bit. I then decided to remove the Windows partition and use OSX only.
I used disk utility and re-claimed the partition size used for Windows. Cool.
Now whenever my computer's battery dies when it's in sleep mode, plugging it in does not recall Mac OSX (you know the gray screen that eventually resumes to Leopard?). On top of that, when I restart my MBP, it goes into a windows "non-system disk, remove and press enter" thing. I have to restart and hold down option to select Mac OSX, as if there was still a partition. But no windows option shows up.
I'm confused and this is getting annoying. I've checked disk utility again, it's showing one partition. There must be something that got left behind. Any ideas? I have thought about wiping and Time Machining it, but I'm afraid whatever is left behind will get backed up as well - not to mention having to re-register all my software is a pain I'd rather not have to do.
I have 4 partitions on my disk as shown in Disk Management. I don't use hibernation, so I want to reclaim the 8GB partition for use as storage. I have a few questions regarding this.
1) What will I compromise if I remove the 8GB partition, other than hibernation?
2) I right-clicked on the OS partition and selected "Shrink Volume". I received the popup shown in the attached image below. It doesn't reflect anything about returning the 8GB partition to the OS partition. In fact, shrinking goes against my intention of expanding the OS partition to include the 8GB. Right-clicking on the 8GB partition only brings up "Help" in the context menu and is not shrinkable.
3) Can I do this any time after having used the laptop for a while, with data and programs already installed? Does the process affect existing files and installations?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been having several problems with this laptop:
- When the computer boots, it boots extremely sluggish and takes as long as 15 MINUTES to finally be able to use the laptop without issues.
I tried wipping the OS and install Windows 8.1 again (I deleted all the partitions and reinstalled a new copy of windows), it worked a bit, the sluggish boot was reduced from 15 minutes to 2 or 3 minutes. I was updating all the drivers and everything, when suddenly i thought it was a good to update the bios in order to finally fix that problem.
As soon as i started the bios update, the laptop restarted and showed a blue box with the text: "Flashing Boot Block", below, it shows the percentage number and it's stuck on 77%. I have leave the laptop for hours on that screen and the number dont increase. I tried to restart the laptop by doing a hard reset, but as soon as i turn on the laptop the "Flashing boot Block" Box appear and it starts all over again, and again, it gets stuck at 77%.
I bought this Split x 2 a week ago and it came with WIndows 8. Everything was working fine until I upgraded to WIndows 8.1. Now my Touchpad will freeze some times and I have to log out and log back in to my profile to unfreeze the touchpad other times I can get it to unfreeze by resetting the release touch screen buttom.
I called HP customer service and they said it was a Microsoft issue and transfer me to them. Microsoft said it was a hardware (HP) Issue and that i needed to go back to the store where I bought it(BestBuy). I took it back yesterday to BestBuy and they gave me a knew one. I did the same thing and upgraded to Windows 8.1 and touchpad issues is back. So pretty sure is not a hardware issue.
All windows updates are completed. I checked the Touchpad's Driver and it is up to date.
NOTE: I plugged a wireless mouse to my laptop and when the touchpad freezes the wireless mouse still works.
Everything else works great on the laptop is just very inconvenient when you are working and you have to log out to get your touchpad to work again.
My daughter has a HP Split 13-m111sa x2 notebook/tablet. She got it in March of this yearand it is currently running Win 8.1 OS with updates applied.
The problem/symptoms are this: - The WiFi connection she uses both at home and school is dropping after about 5 mins after connection. It is happening with different WiFi connections both secure and open requiring login (eg BT WiFi hot spots).
Steps/action taken so far:-
Removed known networks and re-joined
Performed IPCONFIG /flush on device
Provided static IP address to WiFi at home, different to the one supplied by the router but in the same range.
After updateing from windows 8 to 8.1, my HP Split 13-m010dx x2 no longer has bluetooth. Even the option in the settings is gone. I installed the new drivers with no luck either. Is there a solution other than going back to windows 8?
