Aug 18, 2014I purchased two HP Split x2 ultrabooks at the same time. Do I need to make a recovery set for each one or will the same recovery set work on either?

My problem: about a month ago (maybe a little more) my machine automatically did an update, and after it was complete I was able to get to the sign in screen but once I was signed on I had nothing but a black screen and my cursor. I could not pull up the task manager or perform any functions. I was able to restore my machine to a previous date and used it again for about a week before the update ran again and the exact same thing happened. The second time around I did not have any restore points that were prior to the update so a system restore did absolutely no good. I booted in safe mode and tried to do a clean boot to see if something may have been preventing the update from completing properly but no luck.
I then tried a system recovery and it failed, I don't recall what it said about why it failed but now all it does when I start it up is makes me choose a Keyboard layout and then choose an option between "Continue; exit and continue to HP Recovery Manager" "Use a Device" "Use another Operating system" "troubleshoot" and "turn off your PC."
ive just finished setting up my new acer ES1-512, And was about to make my recovery media through the acer console in windows 8.1, and the program will not open ? i get to the part where it wants me to allow the program to make changes, but then nothing happens ? i have tried going to the file location its self to to start the program but this makes no difference, ive looked all over acers site to see if i can re-download the console but have found nothing?

On closer look I was surprised to know that it had six primary partitions, including two recovery drives. While making recovery discs, it (Hard Disk) crashed. My Hard Disk is replaced within 15 days of purchase. Now I am waiting for Operating Softwares Disc from HP. I just wanted to know that can I get a Recovery Drive as we get it at the time of purchase (Factory Reset).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a new XPS 1530 with Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I'm told, before I do anything, I should make a Recovery Disk. How do you do that?
I think the recovery disk is used in case everything crashes.
It's different from a Boot disk (which isn't needed anymore, since you can use the OS installation disk to start Vista if needed).
Also, I'm not talking about System Restore, which reloads your system from a time before your last SW install.
I just purchased Sony Laptop VGN-SZ750N, now i want to make recovery dvd set in case i need to upgrade HD, but i do not know how to do it, or i do not know if is possible. i only find in the control panel how to do back up, but recovery dvd like other sony laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've had the impression that restore disks could only be made once, since I first had a Lenovo that told me I could only make the recovery disks once, due to the Windows licensing, I think. Does Acer also give you a limit to how many copies you can make or not?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just purchased this model from my local Best Buy, and after having valiantly turned down their $150 set-up fee, I decided to try my hand at making the recover disks myself. Obviously, I failed miserably.
Here's my problem: using the eRecovery program on the laptop, I've tried burning a default factory disk using several types of CD's and DVD's but each time, the program rejects my disks and asks for a blank one. The error code that comes up is Error 0x205.
I've looked at the Acer Europe website, but I have not come to any conclusion as to how to fix this problem. My software seems to be up to date but could it be a faulty optical drive?
I have been given an Acer 6930G by a family member to setup. After realising there's 0 discs included with the laptop, the Acer pop up message tells me I have to make my own factory default image. I have successfully made it on 2 DVDs, my question is now in the manual there is nothing about how to use it, I was wondering if anyone can share any insight to me as to how it works.
Basically I know it is probably a bootable DVD as the root of the DVD suggests (several "BOOT" files) I was wondering how it actually looks like? I haven't tested it yet as the user was extremely desperate to get it running so I had to give it up the moment the DVDs were made.
If I put the DVD in and select to boot from it at start up (before getting into windows) does it take me to some sort of custom screen where I can SELECT that I want to reformat and restore the laptop? I want to know what options I am given and I can only assume that it's the same for most laptops.
And I can only assume again, that if I factory restore it, it will come back with Vista activated and all the initial bloatware again, along with all the drivers for it (so I don't need to go track them down).
This is all I need to know, I wish I can test it but I can't even get the laptop back now (until it breaks ...)
If someone can post their experiences with it I will be grateful, this is just more for reassurance than anything, and confirm my assumptions? Many thanks in advance!
EDIT: I have discovered that I can launch that recovery app by pushing ALT+F10, I have managed to wrangle the laptop temporarily to test and have discovered that I can choose from 2 back up options, but I dare not go any further, can someone tell me the next steps? One says factory default, and the other is user's backup.
I can guess that if I choose the first option, factory default, it'll ask for the DVDs I have created? And the 2nd option will restore a backup I made selecting the user option on the recovery app.

Like, if I select PayPal as the payment method and only enter the amount that I was deducted from my PayPal account, will Dell.com prompt me to pay the balance with another payment method?
(The reason is I want to use some funds in my PayPal account and take advantage of a Dell.com cashback offer from the CC. Won't get the cashback if the CC payment is through PayPal.)
I just bought a new Vaio Z! It's amazing but I don't like that Sony created one large C partition. I have the model with a 256GB SSD (128 x 2?). Is there a way that I can keep each drive separate (have C, D drives)? I like keeping my personal data separate from the OS.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI think that this feature is really nice in Windows 7 how you are able to split two different windows evenly on the desktop by just dragging each window to the left and right side.
With that being said, are there any programs/apps out there that can mimic this feature for Mac? Specifically the latest OS Snow Leopard?
TwoUp was program capable of doing this but has been discontinued.
Any fellow Mac NBRers know any others?
I have been having several problems with this laptop:
- When the computer boots, it boots extremely sluggish and takes as long as 15 MINUTES to finally be able to use the laptop without issues.
I tried wipping the OS and install Windows 8.1 again (I deleted all the partitions and reinstalled a new copy of windows), it worked a bit, the sluggish boot was reduced from 15 minutes to 2 or 3 minutes. I was updating all the drivers and everything, when suddenly i thought it was a good to update the bios in order to finally fix that problem.
As soon as i started the bios update, the laptop restarted and showed a blue box with the text: "Flashing Boot Block", below, it shows the percentage number and it's stuck on 77%. I have leave the laptop for hours on that screen and the number dont increase. I tried to restart the laptop by doing a hard reset, but as soon as i turn on the laptop the "Flashing boot Block" Box appear and it starts all over again, and again, it gets stuck at 77%.
I bought this Split x 2 a week ago and it came with WIndows 8. Everything was working fine until I upgraded to WIndows 8.1. Now my Touchpad will freeze some times and I have to log out and log back in to my profile to unfreeze the touchpad other times I can get it to unfreeze by resetting the release touch screen buttom.
I called HP customer service and they said it was a Microsoft issue and transfer me to them. Microsoft said it was a hardware (HP) Issue and that i needed to go back to the store where I bought it(BestBuy). I took it back yesterday to BestBuy and they gave me a knew one. I did the same thing and upgraded to Windows 8.1 and touchpad issues is back. So pretty sure is not a hardware issue.
All windows updates are completed. I checked the Touchpad's Driver and it is up to date.
NOTE: I plugged a wireless mouse to my laptop and when the touchpad freezes the wireless mouse still works.
Everything else works great on the laptop is just very inconvenient when you are working and you have to log out to get your touchpad to work again.
My daughter has a HP Split 13-m111sa x2 notebook/tablet. She got it in March of this yearand it is currently running Win 8.1 OS with updates applied.
The problem/symptoms are this: - The WiFi connection she uses both at home and school is dropping after about 5 mins after connection. It is happening with different WiFi connections both secure and open requiring login (eg BT WiFi hot spots).
Steps/action taken so far:-
Removed known networks and re-joined
Performed IPCONFIG /flush on device
Provided static IP address to WiFi at home, different to the one supplied by the router but in the same range.
After updateing from windows 8 to 8.1, my HP Split 13-m010dx x2 no longer has bluetooth. Even the option in the settings is gone. I installed the new drivers with no luck either. Is there a solution other than going back to windows 8?

I have Dell Inspiron 1370, it has nvidia G105M . The fault is, when I run the laptop its screen split into 6 portions. Before that began to happen, Windows had showed a "driver not responding" warning and after that it just runs in 6 screen portions.

My Split X2 occasionally locks on the blue HP logo during startup. Usually a hard restart will work with no other issues. A few times, including today, the hard restart does not work and it continues to lock on the logo screen. I hard restarted around ten times today before it finally fully booted.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a HP HP - Split x2 Ultrabook - Model # 13-g110dx and I am pretty happy with the ultrabook. The ultrabook came installed with Windows 8 which I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and after that all Windows 8.1 updates were installed and the latest drivers from HP as well. However I have noticed that the touch stops responding after sometime and I have to restart the laptop to make it work again.
Another issue I've seen today is the touch pad stopped responding and I again had to restart.
