Acer :: Aspire 5536G Can't Make Recovery Disks

Jul 1, 2009

I just purchased this model from my local Best Buy, and after having valiantly turned down their $150 set-up fee, I decided to try my hand at making the recover disks myself. Obviously, I failed miserably.

Here's my problem: using the eRecovery program on the laptop, I've tried burning a default factory disk using several types of CD's and DVD's but each time, the program rejects my disks and asks for a blank one. The error code that comes up is Error 0x205.

I've looked at the Acer Europe website, but I have not come to any conclusion as to how to fix this problem. My software seems to be up to date but could it be a faulty optical drive?

Acer Aspire One 725 :: New USB Recovery Media Doesn't Work?

Feb 26, 2015

My wife's Aspire One 725 went down a couple of months ago with a bad hard drive.  Of course, I hadn't maed a recovery USB.  I finally ordered one from the Store, and tried it out tonight.  I set the boot order to USB HDD, and, well, nothing happens!  First, I see a cursor in the top left corner, and then I see the little circle of balls wait indicator, but i never get any other screen!  Could I have a bad USB media from ACER?

Acer Aspire M5 :: Restoring Corrupted System To Factory Defaults Using Recovery Media

I am trying to restore a corrupted M5 to factory defaults. Since the HDD was corrupted, the Acer eRecovery would not work. I purchased the Recovery Media CD set, changed BIOS to boot from CD, disabled secure Boot.

The System Disc comes up, i selected Restore Operating System to factory default. I get prompts to insert Recovery Disc 1, and after a few seconds get a message that the is no sufficient disk space to copy temporary files.

The HDD is 500GB, C: drive is 450GB and 415GB free.

HP ProBook 450 G2 Recovery :: Create Recovery Media Demands Dual Layer DVD's

Sep 10, 2012

I just accepted the delivery of my 5 brand new notebooks for my company's new workers.

3 of those notebooks are HP Probook 450 G2's (PN: J4R69EA)
(These are the models with the 128GB SSD drives)
The other two are Lenovo E540’s with similar specs.

So first things first, create recovery media. So that is done before I hand them to the end users in question. While trying to create the windows disc, the "HP Recovery Disc Creator" program demands Dual layer DVD's: "Please insert a Dual-Layer DVD to proceed" The DVD's in question I’m using are "Sony DVD+R 120min/4.7GB" discs that in the past have always worked. (and at this moment are working for the Lenovo portables)

[URL] Unfortunately this is not the same interface I have. I can only choose a drive to create a backup to
(in this case it is Drive F: for internal drive) I also tried an external DVD writer with the same results.

I have not tried a USB stick, but this is not what I want and since you can only create one set of backups…

Link to a screenshot: (you need to copy paste it into your browser apparently)

[URL]

This would not be that big of a problem if there was an actual windows 7 key printed on the portable. If I had a key, I would just reinstall the machine straight away with a clean windows 7 image so I dont have to clean out all the HP software. but unfortunatly this is not the case. so i need a Windows 7 Recovery disc to be created.

HP Pavilion TS 11-e100 Recovery :: Cannot Create Recovery Media After SSD Installation

Dec 13, 2014

I've just replaced HDD by SSD and tried to make a recovery USB media by means of 8.1 recovery utility. The process takes suspiciously short time, but finishes normally reporting that media is created. The size of all files on the flash is about 200 MB. When I did the same media with HDD the size was 12GB. I tried to boot with that flash and it failed with a message about corrupted media or the like. I always believed that windows does not take into account the physical structure of the drive and cannot understand what's going on and what to do.

Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: Cannot Reinstall OS From Recovery Console E545 After Upgrade Win 8 To 8.1

Apr 14, 2014

Last month I bought a Lenovo e545. I did an upgrade to windows 8.1 on my new system. After upgrading, I noticed several problems with my drivers and installation of them(Conextant audio driver, Windows location driver). Also none of the Windows 8 games work. So I thought I'd do a  sfc /scannow first. There I got the message the system is locked. So I thought to reinstall my backup on the recovery partition. This also said the disk is locked. I tried reInstalling from a home made external USB hard disk with original recovery system, this also won't work.  This makes all my recovery disks useless so I can not restore my computer if anything goes wrong...

Now the base of the problem might be influenced by one of these factors:

In trying to solve the problem I accidentally downgraded the BIOS from 1.10 to 1.09 (so maybe this infuences the Windows certificates in the BIOS, maybe a technician can tell me if this can happen) and can not find the 1.10 BIOS on the website to be downloaded and upgrade the BIOS again.I added 4 GB crucial RAM (1600)The Windows 8.1 upgrade is a pain in the ass and blocks the possibility somehow to recover the system. I really need to be able to recover the system to preform a clean system install...

Acer :: How Many Copies Of The Recovery Disks Can I Make

May 23, 2009

I've had the impression that restore disks could only be made once, since I first had a Lenovo that told me I could only make the recovery disks once, due to the Windows licensing, I think. Does Acer also give you a limit to how many copies you can make or not?

HP ProBook 6550b OS/Software :: Recovery Partition Is There But Recovery Won't Start

Mar 13, 2011

When trying to restore the factory image (F11 during boot), the laptop seems like it is trying to boot the missing Windows installation (Windows boot manager error page). The partitions "SYSTEM", "HP_RECOVERY" and "HP_TOOLS" have not been touched. The ~15 GB recovery files are still there! The Windows partition (2nd primary) has been deleted and recreated as an NTFS partition. Since then the recovery process will not start.

How can I restore the system from my intact HP_RECOVERY partition without using recovery DVDs? (I can't access them right now.)Does the Windows partition need some specific disk label? What is the magic that breaks the recovery when a NTFS partition is simply deleted and recreated?Peter

Dell :: How To Make A Recovery Disk?

Mar 18, 2009

I just got a new XPS 1530 with Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I'm told, before I do anything, I should make a Recovery Disk. How do you do that?

I think the recovery disk is used in case everything crashes.

It's different from a Boot disk (which isn't needed anymore, since you can use the OS installation disk to start Vista if needed).

Also, I'm not talking about System Restore, which reloads your system from a time before your last SW install.

Acer :: Backup/Factory Recovery Make Your Own Factory Image?

Jan 12, 2009

I have been given an Acer 6930G by a family member to setup. After realising there's 0 discs included with the laptop, the Acer pop up message tells me I have to make my own factory default image. I have successfully made it on 2 DVDs, my question is now in the manual there is nothing about how to use it, I was wondering if anyone can share any insight to me as to how it works.

Basically I know it is probably a bootable DVD as the root of the DVD suggests (several "BOOT" files) I was wondering how it actually looks like? I haven't tested it yet as the user was extremely desperate to get it running so I had to give it up the moment the DVDs were made.

If I put the DVD in and select to boot from it at start up (before getting into windows) does it take me to some sort of custom screen where I can SELECT that I want to reformat and restore the laptop? I want to know what options I am given and I can only assume that it's the same for most laptops.

And I can only assume again, that if I factory restore it, it will come back with Vista activated and all the initial bloatware again, along with all the drivers for it (so I don't need to go track them down).

This is all I need to know, I wish I can test it but I can't even get the laptop back now (until it breaks ...)

If someone can post their experiences with it I will be grateful, this is just more for reassurance than anything, and confirm my assumptions? Many thanks in advance!

EDIT: I have discovered that I can launch that recovery app by pushing ALT+F10, I have managed to wrangle the laptop temporarily to test and have discovered that I can choose from 2 back up options, but I dare not go any further, can someone tell me the next steps? One says factory default, and the other is user's backup.

I can guess that if I choose the first option, factory default, it'll ask for the DVDs I have created? And the 2nd option will restore a backup I made selecting the user option on the recovery app.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Flex :: How To Use Recovery Media

Jun 3, 2014

I paid $60 just for some recovery discs to recover my accidentally formatted Yoga 2 Pro. The discs came with no instructions whatsoever, and using them is weird. First of all, there is two disc 1's, no disc 2, yet there is a disc 3 and 4. Support confirmed this is normal. There is also no prompt between discs 1,1, and 2, so despite making my best guess at when to switch, I can't confidently say I'm not screwing things up.

After the whole process completes, the bios can't find bootable media.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W530 - Creating Recovery Media?

Mar 1, 2014

I recently acquired a new Thinkpad W530 with Windows 7 Pro.

I want to immediately replace the 500gb main drive with a larger one.  I plan to do this by imaging the system partition of the current drive to an external USB hdd, and then then writing the image to the larger one after it's installed in the W530.

My question:  Can I then just store the original drive away as is, to use for recovery (should the need arise), in lieu of creating recovery media now?

It seems pretty clear the answer should be "yes," but since I've always used XP up until now I'm wondering if there are any kinds of Win 7-specific watchouts (maybe licensing-rleated?) that would keep things from being as simple as popping the original drive back in the main hdd slot to get things back to exactly where they are today?

However, using the Partition Wizzard, I can assign a drive letter to the Recovery partition, and it becomes visible in Windows Explorer (File manager). I can copy the content on an external HD drive.

Lenovo X1 Carbon X Series ThinkPad :: USB Recovery Media Unbootable?

Jan 25, 2015

I have made a Recovery disk on a USB Flash Drive using the Lenovo “create a recovery disk” in the Lenovo Solution Centre software.

The USB Drive seems to have been created successfully. It shows in Windows Disk Management as cbd_drive (D 14.48GB NTFS Healthy (Active, Primary Partition).

When I interrupt the boot with F12, The USB Drive comes up as an option (USB HDD: Sandisk Ultra), but when this option is selected, the screen flashes briefly, then returns back to the boot options again, so the USB drive will not boot properly – the boot fails and reverts back to the boot options screen.

The root directory of the USB contains the following -

BOOT (Folder)
FactoryRecovery (Folder)
usb.tag
winRE.wim

I have read other threads on here, and think I have covered the issues raised there. This is the first time I have used a USB flash drive as a recovery disk, so I may be missing something very basic.

Is something wrong with the USB drive
