View 3 RepliesI have a problem with my Dell laptop. I got a virus , and i don't even know what did it do. When i start my laptop it loads like it was before( it says big DELL and Inspiron, then progress bar and F2 Setup and F12 Boot options). After that loads i see this thing flashing _ . And then red text comes up and says something like " Your laptop was blocked because bla bla bla" and after that red text this thing _ flashing. Keyboard is blocked, nothing happens when i try to connect USB or my mouse. The only thing i can do on my laptop now is press F2 or F12 while Dell loads, before that red thing.
How do i restore my system, what disks do i use?
I have an Inspiron N5040 just over one year old. To do a Factory Restore I followed the instructions and pressed <F8> after a power up.
In gets to the Advanced Boot Options menu. When I select Repair Your Computer it gives 2 options something like
1) Repair Windows
2) Start Windows Normally
If I select Repair Windows it loops back to the same screen and does not do anything.
What should I do? The laptop did not come with restore CD's or DVD's...
My Inspiron 1545 needs to reset to ex factory condition. The manual and the dell website say press F8 several times once the Dell logo appears. Obviously this has been changed. How to achieve this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been looking all over the internet and on Dell for the past 2 hours with no luck. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505. I want to wipe everything off this laptop except what was on it when I purchased it. I keep reading hit F12 or control F11 and then click Restore. There is no Restore anywhere. I have searched and searched and I can't find anything. I have found that a lot of other people don't have that option either.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a hard disk fail and had to reinstall Windows 7 on a new disk, but I could not read the COA. I ordered the recovery disks and now have a slight problem. When I try and boot to the System Disk 1 I get a no bootable media on disk message. I installed Windows 7 from a DVD I have for another computer and it works fine, but I can not validate Windows. How can I make the laptop run System Disk 1?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to buy a Dell Latitude 6540 and have found out the following statement in the configuration:
“Operating System Recovery Options: no media”.
It also says: "Dell Backup and Recovery: Dell Backup and Recovery Basic"
I think this means that I will not get a recovery disk along with the system.
If so, I wonder how I can re-load the system in case I need it for whatever reason (for example how can re-format the HD if I need it to?)
I am trying to restore a corrupted M5 to factory defaults. Since the HDD was corrupted, the Acer eRecovery would not work. I purchased the Recovery Media CD set, changed BIOS to boot from CD, disabled secure Boot.
The System Disc comes up, i selected Restore Operating System to factory default. I get prompts to insert Recovery Disc 1, and after a few seconds get a message that the is no sufficient disk space to copy temporary files.
The HDD is 500GB, C: drive is 450GB and 415GB free.
I think I downloaded malware with a fake Java update I accidentally downloaded. I believe if I revert to an earlier date, I may solve my problem. I have an hp Probook 6555b using Windows 7.

I want to install a new ssd-drive, which is empty. I did create a DVD under rescue & recovery. But on startup with the new hdd, it only offers me a restore option, not a NEW system. R&R also only created ONE disc, imho thats not enough, dont I need some more for the whole system?
And I cant backup the whole windows system, because even though its fresh its 80 gig (some data was taken along, dunno which)...
And thats my problem in a nutshell: I cant create discs with ONLY the windows install-system, or rather I dont know how
I now tried 3 times, and R&R burns only ONE disc, and booting from that, it asks for a recovery. I want a new fresh virgin system...
I tried a couple of times, did not work. Had to swap back the old drive to work again.

I have a dell laptop computer (Inspiron 13 (7347, Mid 2014)). I tried to restore the win8 to a point but it failed. Now it can not start windows 8. "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we will restart for you". My computer was restarted again and again but the problem is still exist. I think I need run windows 8 system restore but I do not know how to do it...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new Inspiron 15 (5547, Early 2014), Windows 7. Within a few days, the speed of operation dropped to glacial speeds. It would take 10-15 minutes to open programs.
I've run virus and malware scans and this has not fixed the problem. I intended to then restore the system to an earlier install point, but every time I do I get a windows error "System restore did no complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed". The text of the message indicates I shoud disable my anti-virus software, but when I disable it (MacAfee, live scan and firewall), I get the same message. I get the same message even if I restore from safe mode, with MacAfee disable. The real issue is the incredible slow operation.
I have an acer extensa 5630,can i do a factory restore?as i dont have the original disc.
I have these specs on my laptop-
Windows Vista Home Premium, Service pack 2
Acer Extensa 5630.
Pentium (R) Dual Core CPU.T4200 @2.00 GHZ 2.00 GHZ
2GB RAM

I have just attempted to do a factory reset of my wifes Laptop which appeared to have gone OK until the system attempted to reboot.
I am now stuck with the 2 liner
PBR 1 . . . Done
Loading DRMK Version 8.00
And that is that.
I have read through the bits I can find in the forum and Google and have set the Sata to "enabled" in Power Management, as suggested, but still no luck.
I have also tried a windows repair as I have the discs supplied, both the Operating System (Win XP) and the driver disc but still can't move on.
I'm not sure if there is a problem with the community website but in the search box I keep getting a message when searching to say .. error retrieving file ....
The laptop was supplied with Norton Ghost but I think all of that must have been wiped when I initially did the Factory reset.
I have HP Pavilion dv6 with windows7 home premium , I removed windows and recovery files . How can I restore original windows and recovery partition as I got it from factory ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe McAfee expired and each time it opens a new windows I get an error message and am asked to buy again. Started to freeze the screen and I'd have to shut down the unit and start again if I had more than 3 open windows. There was a system restore logo on the left side of the screen - so I thought maybe that would work - wrong thing to do!
Now it starts, and then the windows colored balls appear and turn into the logo - then nothing but blue gray screen. Tried doing F-8 system restore to factory settings, the last option, as recommended by MicroWarehouse where machine was purchased for Army son-in-law in 2011 - would not run completely. the instruction at 0x0411c2e3 referenced memory at 0x0db81030. The memory could not be written. went back to that F8 screen automatically so I tried it again - same message ar 0x44cc2r3 and back to the screen
since it said memory, I clicked on restore memory - which may have been wrong as it said I had videos, and I did not, and it said I had pictures, which I would only have had in e-mail. but I clicked to do it. Took several hours to run. and still screen is blue/gray. Now it won't even F8. Thinking my son-in-law may have disturbed something when he re-set it for me (took all their info off prior to military deployment - and when I tried to restore that may have conflicted with what he did. (We got him btter unit, I got old one)
i have a Dell M5040 when i launch Dell Datasafe 2.0 the section to create Recovery Media has both the USB and CD/DVD grayed out. How do I reset Datasafe in case there was a limit to create only 1 copy of the recovery cds (which are no where to be found)?
View 16 Replies View RelatedI bought a Dell Inspiron N5110 last year. I created two more partitions on my hard drive. Now I want to restore my windows to factory settings, but I cannot go through the restore process.
I am quite sure that the restore partition is physically on the hard drive, but maybe because of creating new partition it cannot find the drive, or the restore program looks to wrong partition. How can I recover with the current conditions.
I just purchased a new Pavilion m7-1015dx Laptop and need to make the System Recovery Discs ... (which I realize restores the Laptop to factory default).. btw, I've already created the System Repair Disc.
However, I read an article about creating a System Backup Image that allows you to Recovery EVERYTHING if lost, all your installed programs, etc.
First Question ::: if I do the System Backup IMAGE ... Do I still need to create the System Recovery disc's (mfg's default) also??
The Second Question ::: If I create the System Recovery discs do I still need that Recovery Partition ??
I am really really wanting to partition my C: drive ... it's huge plus I hate seeing storage folders intermingled with system folders .. Currently using a Symbol/Character to separate them.
As of now, I can't partition the C:drive as all partitions are used.. max is 4 and I've got 4 .... C:drive, System Partition, HPTools Partition, and Recovery Partition.
Where can I find the Restore media for an XPS m1530?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have created a set of "System Recovery" (Reinstall Disk) DVD's for my inspiron 15 7000 laptop.I removed the traditional Sata HD from the laptop and installed Samsung Evo 840 SSD. Connected an external DVD drive and booted using the System Recovery Disk 1.
The files started loading but after half were loaded gave error of something like 0x8xxxxxx and asked to reboot. The same error occurred after another reboot. The Recovery Disk are fine as i have verified them using dell backup software. Also is it possible to create Dell Recovery partition (O/S and drivers e.t.c) somehow on the new SSD if i install Windows 8 using the OEM disk straight away?
I have had the laptop for three months.Every time it boots up it I get the message: checking media/media fail.
It then goes to a blue screen with error code 0xc0000001. I ran diagnostics and got the message error code 2000-0145 validation 100079.
I just accepted the delivery of my 5 brand new notebooks for my company's new workers.
3 of those notebooks are HP Probook 450 G2's (PN: J4R69EA)
(These are the models with the 128GB SSD drives)
The other two are Lenovo E540’s with similar specs.
So first things first, create recovery media. So that is done before I hand them to the end users in question. While trying to create the windows disc, the "HP Recovery Disc Creator" program demands Dual layer DVD's: "Please insert a Dual-Layer DVD to proceed" The DVD's in question I’m using are "Sony DVD+R 120min/4.7GB" discs that in the past have always worked. (and at this moment are working for the Lenovo portables)
[URL] Unfortunately this is not the same interface I have. I can only choose a drive to create a backup to
(in this case it is Drive F: for internal drive) I also tried an external DVD writer with the same results.
I have not tried a USB stick, but this is not what I want and since you can only create one set of backups…

This would not be that big of a problem if there was an actual windows 7 key printed on the portable. If I had a key, I would just reinstall the machine straight away with a clean windows 7 image so I dont have to clean out all the HP software. but unfortunatly this is not the case. so i need a Windows 7 Recovery disc to be created.
ive just finished setting up my new acer ES1-512, And was about to make my recovery media through the acer console in windows 8.1, and the program will not open ? i get to the part where it wants me to allow the program to make changes, but then nothing happens ? i have tried going to the file location its self to to start the program but this makes no difference, ive looked all over acers site to see if i can re-download the console but have found nothing?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just replaced HDD by SSD and tried to make a recovery USB media by means of 8.1 recovery utility. The process takes suspiciously short time, but finishes normally reporting that media is created. The size of all files on the flash is about 200 MB. When I did the same media with HDD the size was 12GB. I tried to boot with that flash and it failed with a message about corrupted media or the like. I always believed that windows does not take into account the physical structure of the drive and cannot understand what's going on and what to do.

It will not accept any of my friends old user names and passwords, I am unable to log into the administrator, and I am unable to log into safe mode cause it needs to set up windows 7 for the first use. How can we log into windows?
