Dell Inspiron 1545 :: Restore To Original Setup
Mar 15, 2013
My Inspiron 1545 needs to reset to ex factory condition. The manual and the dell website say press F8 several times once the Dell logo appears. Obviously this has been changed. How to achieve this?

I have been looking all over the internet and on Dell for the past 2 hours with no luck. I have a Dell Inspiron E1505. I want to wipe everything off this laptop except what was on it when I purchased it. I keep reading hit F12 or control F11 and then click Restore. There is no Restore anywhere. I have searched and searched and I can't find anything. I have found that a lot of other people don't have that option either.Â

This laptop has become very sluggish and I want to restore to factory default, however, contrary to the instructions on the website, when I press F8 I can get to a Advance Boot Options  menu where there is an option to repair your computer but if I select this is takes me only back into Windows no "list of system recovery tools is given"....
The other options are Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, Safe mode with command prompt, Enable Boot Logging, Enable low resolution video, Last known good configuration ( advanced), Directory Services Restore Mode, Debugging mode, Disable automatic restart on system failure, disable driver signature enforcement and start windows normally.                          Â
The only disks which came with the laptop ( bought new) were For reinstalling Cyberlink Power DVD DX8.3 Software for Microsoft Windows 7, P/N 5RMCO Rev A00 and For reinstalling Dell Webcam Central Software...

I recently did a factory image restore on my Dell laptop because I couldn't seem to get rid of a virus on my computer. The factory image restore was completed successfully but now windows will not start up. Startup repair says
"cannot repair this computer automatically-
Problem event name- startup repair offline

Problem signature 02: 6.1.7600.163.85

Problem signature 06: 3
Problem signature 07:Failure during setup
OS version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1

I performed regular diagnostics on the computer and all tests were passed. I also did a custom diagnostics test on the hard drive and all tests were passed, except for the last test it said "there is no flash drive in the card reader". Which I believe is probably normal?
My computer only came with two disks from the store. One titled 'Drivers and utilities-for reinstalling dell insipron laptop computer software', and the other titled 'Application- for reinstalling cyberlink powerDVD DX 8.3 software for windows 7'. I do not have a cd for windows 7.

I'm trying to do a factory restore on a 2010 Dell XPS L701X using the Dell Datasafe Backup. When booting, I choose to restore to factory condition/setup. At 55% of reformatting I keep getting an error, the error reads, "Error Ox001100200001005". It will not go farther, when I click OK, the computer simply reboots and the cycle starts all over again.

The only reason I purchased my xps m1710Â is that I thought it was the top of the range model at the time, now all I want to do is replace the hd but at the same time retain all the functionality of the hidden restore partition and the media centre partition. You would expect Dell would make this easy for me as the owner and as Dell market themselves as providing user friendly IT solutions.
I have tried using trueimage to clone the drive but when trying the new drive on boot up it gets to the Dell 'blue bar' then freezes. I have tried copying partition by partition but this is even less successful.
I have tried restoring the restore 'ghost' image to the new hard drive but symantec ghost reports incompatibilities with the image file.
I am upgrading my original Samsung hd (SATA) to a new hd and would like to keep the hidden partition and mediacentre partition as my original hd. I have a new SATA hd which is currently connected in a USB enclosure. I am not a hd or filesystem expert and don't want to spend a year studying the goodells website.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 with 1TB HDD. The disk is slow and want to replace with a 500GB SSD. I can remove the HDD and put in its place the SSD. However, how exactly to get Windows 8.1 installed on the SSD and the other Dell provided pre-installed software?
I made a factory image usb flash drive on a 32GB stick by using the backup & recovery software that came pre-installed. I also updated that software to the latest version available. However, when recovering from the flash drive it gives an error code 0x400110020000100A and does not restore Windows on the SSD. The SSD is formatted as NTFS (or FAT32 tried both) and can be read by the laptop if connected thru' a USB port. So, I know that the SSD is working and good.

I brought my Inspiron 600m back to life and did a fresh install of Windows XP SP2. After that I began installing drivers for it from Dell.com at the following link.
[URL] ....
Now there wasn't any  drivers that other recommended like chipset/system drivers available when searching by service tag. However if you search by model (600m) a lot more come up. Im not sure if I should download any of them.
My problem is it cannot connect to the internet and the ethernet port is dead. I have no error messages. I tried LANÂ connections using an ethernet cable to another machine and it does not take.
I am running Intel PROSet/Wireless and it does see nearby networks but cannot connect. It says configuration failed. I have read all the usual documents for troubleshooting but no solution yet. I have heard there where some flaws with this model and some of the equipment.Â

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3521 which, until recently, was working fine.Â
This morning I, after a rebooted, I got an error message informing me that the battery would not charge and to press f1 to continue or f2 to enter setup. Â I continued and booted into Windows fine but noticed it wasn't charging, Â I rebooted to see if the error message would go away. Â It didn't.
I booted into the BIOS, loaded the "optimized defaults" and rebooted only to be greeted by the same error message. Â
There were quite a few posts with similar issues, so I tried a couple of the solutions to see if any of them would work(updating the BIOS to A12, rebooting with the battery removed and then replacing it, deleting the two driver under batteries in device manager, etc.), but none of them resulted in the battery charging though the error message went away. Â
After playing around with it for a while, I noticed the following behavior.
1. Â Initially, in the BIOS, it said something like "Your battery is temporarily disabled, please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature" . Â After removal/reboot/re-adding, it reports it as healthy. Â
2. Â The AC adapter is reported as unknown when the battery is plugged in. Â If I remove the battery, it is reported as 65W. Adding the battery results in it reporting as "unknown" again.
3. Â If I am in Windows with the battery plugged in and not charging(as reported by windows) and I remove the AC adapter from the socket in the wall and plug it in again, the green light on the power brick glows for 5 or so seconds and the icon in the system tray shows charging. Unfortunately, it then turns off a few seconds later and the icon shows it running only on battery power. Â
I've seen quite a few of these posts, so I'm not expecting a definitive answer. As of right now, I'm running with just the AC adapter plugged in and the battery removed.  It works "fine" this way.Â
NOTE: Â This seemed to coincide with a run of windows update. Â Prior to that, it was working correctly running on a fresh install of Windows 8.1 . Â Either that, or it was just a coincidence.

My husband came home from work saying his laptop doesn't work, being the naturally skeptical wife, I tried to boot it up, thinking I'll f10 (Well, f12 - turns out) the problem away. If that worked, we wouldn't be here. Anyway. 9_9
The laptop turns on without a problem, and presents me with the Dell loading screen. The loading bar is present, but nothing is actually 'loading'. There are two options in the lower right hand corner, "F2 - Setup" and "F12 Boot Options". If I turn the laptop on and press one of these buttons really quick (within a second), then that option will be highlighted, but nothing more occurs. I've tried this for both F2 and F12.
I've tried:
-Boot Options - fails to load the options screen
-Setup - fails to load the setup screen
-Turning the power off and holding the button down.
-PSA ... Pre-startup Analytics...? Didn't work. Spent 5 minutes tapping F12 once a second.
-All of the above with and without the AC adapter in.
-Taking the battery out (Oi, that was fun.) and plugging it back in.
None of these yielded different results.

I ordered two basic Inspiron 1545's on March 16th. $479 each on the one day special.
Dell says it will arive on April 6th. Does Dell usually take this long to deliver?
Both have Dual Core Pentiums. Can they be upgraded to Core 2 Duo later? Are the CPU's soldered on the main board?
Ram is limited to four gigabytes, even though the laptop uses a 64-bit CPU. Is this something that might be fixed in a future BIOS upgrade?
Is there any way to upgrade the onboard graphics? I found an ExpressCard chasis that has PCI express slots, but it costs over $700. I could build a PC for less than that. Do I have any other options?

I just looked at the pictures and specs of the new Inspiron 1525 replacement, 1545, and I couldn't believe what I have read. No HDMI port, no firewire port, only 3 USB ports, no modem, no eSATA. Also, it is 15.6" 16:9 screen, which is fine, if they offer higher than 1366x768. It is more like the 13" Inspiron than the old 1525 to me. I think Dell is going to re-align Inspiron as a cheap line like the HP Presario line. Dell Studio will compete with HP Pavilion.

My question is if the early 1545's came with LED's or CCFL's? I see all the 1545's now come with only LED screens.
I ask because on the 'Dell Outlet' it doesn't state if it's a LED screen or not. It just says: "15.6 WXGA Laptop Screen Display with TrueLife"

I am looking to buy a new 15" laptop. A top of the range inspiron 1545 costs £629 and the top XPS M1530 costs £849.
However, looking at the spec - the Inspiron seems to have:
> A better processor (Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40Ghz, 3MB, 1066MHz) vs Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.40 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 cache))
> Faster memory (4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048] Vs 4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x2048])

I got an old laptop (dell inspiron 1545). I bought it charger and installed Windows 7. then I discovered that he had a strange problem. As if the keyboard is not calibrated. I press a button and he thinks it's another key ... I thought it might be a hardware problem but when I plugged in a USB keyboard had the same problem and even when I uploaded the "virtual keyboard " on screen the problem continued ... I went to the site of DELL and the diagnosis tool indicated the computer is fine (their detection software glitch found in DVD-ROM but it really has nothing to do with it) I still tried to delete the drivers of the keyboard from the computer and reinstall but the problem remains you might know calibration software keyboard?

I've noticed that the screen doesn't seem to be evenly lit. For example when I set the desktop background to black, it looks pretty black at the top of the screen, but as I look further down towards the bottom it turns almost medium gray/blue-ish.
I've tried all brightness, contrast and gamma settings with no luck.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is it a reason for sending back the laptop? Or is this something "you get" for buying a lower-end laptop like the 1545?
